Humor For These Days...

This quilt had me rolling in laughter.

Now we know what she is smiling about!

Reason for the scream?  He has 10 daughters in his home.

It wasn't The Ring that drove Gollum mad...

The Snickity Snick

Oh yes!

When I was little I spent a lot of time with my great grandma.  If I had a bit too much 'vim and vigor' she would look for things to burn off that energy.  And one of those things was to mow her manicured lawn with the 'snickety- snick'.

By the time I finished excess energy was no longer a problem.

Fast forward to now...

We have our lawn mowed by a local young man who is trying to establish a mowing business.  He's not the most ambitious lad out there.  Our twice monthly mow is usually a monthly mow!  Living out here at The Sticks that is not an issue.. and it save me money.

However the yard can get really shaggy in that time, especially if we've had good rain that month.

On a recent Goodwill run I popped inside to see if there was any organizing stuff I could use.

And I found a brand new Snickety Snick!

Perfect for my shaggy yard!

Now when he doesn't show up timely I can keep the front yard area looking good.

Hmmmm....

Nope, not an option with our hilly yard!

My BBFF (Bovine Best Friend Forever)

Apparently I have a very unique skill set.

Remember my photos of the darling baby calves?

Well, as I was talking to him ALL of the other cows decided to come up and join the conversation!

They were very good listeners.

In fact, they were all ears!

Quite a few of them talked back too.  This one was a real 'moo cow'.

The bull wondered what all the talk was about and came to check it out.  He soon tired of the girl talk.  He wandered back to his patch of clover.

Then to my total surprise, Number 7 walked right up to me.  I slowly stretched out to see if I could touch her.

I did more than touch her... she wanted scratching!

I spent several minutes scratching her face, ear, and neck before I needed to leave.  What a fun surprise!  Just call me Teri the Cow Whisperer!

A Grumpy Bird Waiting For Spring

I think this little Yellow Throated Warbler is just as tired of the cold weather as I am!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

My St Patrick wish?

To have six weeks of Spring!  (Not 2 winters and straight into summer as we did last year.)

(White clover... the South's answer to shamrocks!)

A Good Day Is...

In keeping with my "simple abundance" phrase for 2019 I've been considering what sort of benchmark I could put in place for myself so to recognize my successes.

This works for me!

Persia and Her Pillow

Remember the photo of Persia supervising from a pillow in C's chair?

Well, C sent it home with her!  This silly cat who likes no one other than Himself and me absolutely loves S & C!  And they are delighted with her.

So now Persia had her very own goose down pillow in her favorite chair.  (The towel keeps the shedding mess manageable.)

She is VERY happy with it!

A Good Thing To Ponder On

A fun side note on our trip to Churchill Downs.  The Museum has a display where you can pull up the movies of all the Kentucky Derbies that were made.

In 1949 my grand parents went to the Kentucky Derby.

Running in that Derby was a long shot named "Ponder".

My grandmother's maiden name was "Ponder".

That's enough racing mojo to make a bet on!  ~LOL~  So she laid a $10 bet on the horse with her name.

... and Ponder came home!

A $2 bet made $34; Grandmother Doris came home with $170 AND bragging rights!

Turbo Mode

The cat just didn't know what would happen when he hit the dog's turbo button!  I've never seen anything like this.

Be prepared to laugh!

Smile! You're On Google Street View!

So... I wonder if he was recording or just traveling?

Guess I'll have to do some checks of that intersection at intervals.  LOL

A Good Case for Picky Eaters

For a while as a child (tho to hear my family speak of it... it lasted years) I went thru a phase where NO food on my plate could touch another food item.  If a pea rolled up onto my mashed potatoes, the entire amount of both was contaminated.

Casseroles?  Forget it.

Dad brought home from school one of those divided trays which solved the 'roll into' issue.  And Mom served me 'deconstructed' meals.  Such as if she were making spaghetti, I would have some cooked hamburger meat, some mushrooms, plain pasta, and whatever veggie was being served ~ each in its own little compartment.

I have no idea why I did this, although I do remember absolutely KNOWING that I could not eat touching foods.

I think I might have figured it out...

The other day in my sorting I came across some women's magazines from the late 1950s and early 1960s (I was born in '62).  Just like today, food companies had ads that featured their foods in "new and wonderful" recipes.

Take a look at these 'yummy' recipes...

Gelatin...Cream of Chicken soup... finely chopped chicken

Oh boy!  We don't even have to chew!

I can just stop with the canned peas on this one.

More gelatin; this time with tomato soup and ground ham.

Think you are looking at zucchini boats?  Look again ~ those are pickles with diced hot dogs in a ketchup sauce.

Ketchup covered hot dogs rolled in corn flake crumbs...

Here's one for you!  A Spam competitor sandwiching a cornbread slice, with cheese sauce on top.

Use up your leftover from yesterday by encasing them all in gelatin!  (That will really make sure the kids eat everything the first time around!)

Here's one to make you pucker ~ more gelatin, citrus this time, that has tomato sauce and vinegar mixed into it.  Stick a bit of cottage cheese in the middle... yum, yum!

Tuna Upside Down Bake

Canned tuna and square carrots.  This is a recipe for a hunger strike...

Because doesn't everyone love their salad encased in gelatin?

Liver folks... that is liver!

That just looks gross...

Even sandwiches weren't safe.

More mush meals.  And what is it with green olives in everything?

Wow.

Baby, we've come a long way!

OK, I have to give my Mom, Grandmother, and Great-grandma credit... they could really cook!  I'm still using their recipes to this day!

Fidgety Cat

On one of our recent trips to Nashville, I found these cool fidget spinners in one of our favorite ethnic restaurants.  I quickly selected the dragon wing spinner on the right and Himself picked the 'ship's wheel' on the left.

They are the best spinners I've seen.  Great iridescent color and well balanced; they spin a long time.

When we got home, I set mine on my bedside table.  Miss Persia was very interested and it didn't take long for her to come check it out.  She had played with one that Little Bird had so she knew what to do with it...

Instant Cardio Workout... (Guest Post by Himself)

 Hey...

Ever get ‘spooked’ about something?   It just happened to me...

First, I’m the type who – if I take off my glasses – needs Teri’s to help me locate where I put them because I can’t see well enough to FIND them.   Next, with my glasses off, if I see something (or reach for it because I thought it was something else) and then it turns out to be something potentially dangerous, I ‘get spooked’ and am all hyper for a few minutes.  (Imagine seeing a foot-long piece of dark yarn on the floor and reaching for it, but as your hand gets close to it.....it moves.)

Well, something like that happened...

I was about to take a shower and had already set my glasses down.  I turned on the water spigot down below and, once it got warm, I reached above to turn on the overhead part.  I then started stepping into the tub.  But as I was stepping in, I saw movement near the drain.

This.....

A wolf spider...

He didn’t move until he was getting wet AS I was stepping in.  He had been straddling across the drain so, without my glasses, I didn’t see him.

Closer.

And he’s big – here he is in the large pitcher we keep birds in who knock themselves silly after hitting the window.  That is a dime down below to show you the size.   After Teri flicked him into this pitcher, she had to shake it to keep him from running up the side before she got the lid on.  You could hear his feet skittling along the sides trying to get out.

Lots of footsteps...

Kinda colorful up close though with his reddish/brownish colors.

By the way, I have been told that they have a very painful bite.  Which brings up an incident of just months ago:  While downstairs sorting thru stuff, I got up from my chair and ‘felt something’ brush my outer leg that had been ‘just inside’ my blue-jean shorts.

It was right there where I am pointing – a wolf spider clinging to the inside of my pants leg.   Because my pants are so loose, I didn’t feel him.......until I stood up.   As I stood up, I felt him ‘slip out’ against my thigh and fall – (seeing this out of the corner of my eye as I just happened to be looking down) and I then heard a small ‘thunk’ as he hit the carpet.   Attempting to skittled away I grabbed a glass jar and scooped him up to be tossed outside later after I finished playing with him.   Only half the size of the wolf spider in the tub, still, his bite would have been painful.

But back to the bathtub spider...

We have no idea where he came from or how he got in the bathroom.   Man.....after we got him out of the shower, I searched every INCH of the shower curtains and other places in the bathroom – including under the toilet seat!   😓   I was now hyper!

~Himself~

(PS – By the way, That Woman – as a child – would catch and keep wolf spiders as pets.  It was the one spider that didn’t seem to bother her.  She’d keep them in a terrarium and would catch bugs for them to eat.   She wasn’t allowed to get a tarantula so a wolf spider was the next best thing.    Only Teri...)
