Merrygoatround

When I was gifted this candlestick, I fell in love with the cute goats and immediately thought of using them in a hat pattern - the pattern name also came quickly.

My plan was to use different colours for each goat, but I decided to make a two-coloured version first, just to try it out. Here I used one of my favourite yarns, Pickled Pure Wool.

For the multi-coloured hat I used lots of different left over yarn.
And a new to me technique - intarsia in the round.
It's ok for a small project like a hat.

I recently had the chance to try it in the cold, and it works perfectly.

There will be a pattern in a little while.

Best Easter ever

... say the Norwegian newspapers. Or was it best Easter in 30 years? Anyway, it's been a fantastic Easter in most of Norway. My good frient Elisabeth shared this photo on Instagram:

You'd think they were made to match, but they're not. The hat is Sheep Heid, by Kate Davies, that I made for her this Christmas. The mittens were a Christmas gift the year before that, "All I want for Christmas"

Lillehammer hat pattern for sale

You might have seen on Facebook or on Ravelry that the Lillehammer hat "Lillehammerlua" is now available - in Norwegian. An idea for Easter knitting, perhaps?

It's a hat in stranded colourwork hat with skiers and snow motifs, inspired by Lillehammer ski races.

The garter stitch brim with ear flaps is worked flat, ear flaps formed with short rows.
The rest of the hat is worked in the round.
The gauge is 22 sts in 10 cm, so it's a relatively quick knit. And it's fun to see the skiers grow - "just one more round".
My hat is worked in Rauma Mitu, a wool/alpaca blend, really soft an warm.

The pattern has been test knitted by Gøril. Here's her version, knitted in Hifa2Ask

Lillehammer hat

Remember my Lillehammer mittens?

Here's a hat to go with them.

Remember last year's Birkebeiner competition between my sister and her friend?

The hat is this year's price for the one who improves the time more,
relatively that is, so there will be calculations involved too.

The hat is worked in Rauma mitu, a wool/alpaca blend, that is soft and gives a warm fabric. It's nice to knit with.

The garter stitch brim with ear flaps is worked flat, ear flaps formed with short rows.

The rest of the hat is worked in the round.

And this hat definitely needed a pompom!

Pattern is ready for test knitting - in Norwegian. Interested, anyone?

♥ 7 ♥ Dreaming of a white Christmas ♥

Still very little or no snow.

One advantage - you can see the decoration on the manhole covers.

Greetings from Lillehammer!

Here's what it can look like:

Winter holiday photo album

Winter holiday for me is
mountain cottage, skiing, knitting, reading,
playing cards and other games.
Warm and cosy in front of the oven

Most of the days were sunny and beautiful but one day was colder and windy, and my lined Lillehammer mittens warmed my hands. (Translation of the pattern to English is on my to do-list).

Remember these woolly longies? You might notice they are longere here - the pattern is wide, so they still fit the 6-years old, but he needed some more length.
I'm working on a fun, colourful and secret project at the moment, so here's my mother's knitting. She has borrowed my book, Colorwork creations, and is making mittens. They are top-down mittens. My mother taught me to knit when I was five, now I could teach her magic cast on for top-down mittens. She's using a thicker yarn (sport weight) and has omitted one pattern repeat.

She's also made a hat for my father.
I love those little birds, don't you?

Lilyhammer!

Have you seen this series? Lilyhammer, as they say in English. We love it here in Lillehammer, it's fun! But we wonder if other people enjoy it as much as we do. What do you think?

Anyway, the Lillehammer mitten pattern is ready. Only in Norwegian at the moment.

Pattern is test knitted by Pinneguri. The look pretty in her colour choice, I think, red and gray.

Or go to the Ravelry pattern page here.

Cold weather, warm cowl

The other day, my cowl came back from Iceland. I wore it for the first time out skiing today (seminar 3,5 hours lunch break.) As you can see, the weather is cold (around 20 degrees below zero) but iI can assure you, the cowl is warm!

Have a nice weekend!

PS Link to Ravelry pattern page here. The hat is my design too.

♥ 19 ♥ A local Christmas tree

Close to where we live, there is a small farm where they sells Christmas trees. It feels very good to buy a local grown tree.

Earlier, we have occasionally bought trees imported form Denmark. Sounds weird when you see all the trees around here. Never again...

The kicksled is perfect for transporting Christmas trees!
