About the author

Me circa 1997

I started flying in 1985 with the RAF whilst studying for my Physics degree. I spent several years in general aviation as a Flying Instructor, Examiner, C of A Test Pilot for all Group A & B types and Chief Pilot of an air taxi company.

In 1994 I joined British Midland Airways as a First Officer on the 737-3/4/500 based at Heathrow. Within two years I had become a Captain and then a Line Training Captain. I also taught performance, technical refreshers and various other groundschool subjects.

In 2001 I joined a low cost airline where I was the 737 Fleet Manager from 2005-2010, and their Senior Investigator from 2010-2016. I was their representative on the UK Flight Safety Committee from 2005 and Chairman of the UKFSC from 2014-2016.

In my 18 years on the 737 I accumulated over 10,000hrs flying most versions. I have conducted over 150 post-maintenance check flights and customer demonstration flights on the 737 Classics and NGs. I have been flying the Airbus A320 CEO/NEO family since 2011.
