Merry for Power Poppy Creative Confetti

Today is a new Creative Confetti Challenge over at the Power Poppy blog and I am very happy to say that I am the guest host for the challenge today! I was thrilled to be asked by Julie Koerber to join in the fun!

With it being such a busy time of year I love to have extra help with my card making and a Tic-Tac-Toe challenge is a great way to get a project jump started! For my card I decided to use the diagonal row of Red, Die Cut and Green.

I was inspired by a tutorial the talented Julie Koerber did for Inspire Me Monday back in April 2018 and so I created the text "Merry" in Photoshop and then used the Power Poppy digital set Hollyberries and positioned the images around the text until I was happy with how it looked. After printing the image out I used my Copic markers to color in the images....the red from the challenge was brought in on the berries (R35, R37, R39) and the card base, the green on the leaves (YG03, YG63, YG67) and the die cut is the wonky stitch panel from Avery Elle. I like to keep things clean and simple but wanted some sparkle on my card so I used a silver Gelly Roll to color in the text and finish the card off!

Thank you again to Julie and Power Poppy for having me as a guest this week!

Power Poppy Hues to Use

Today is an exciting day! I am a guest over at the Power Poppy blog on the Hues to Use segment! I am so excited to be able to take part in this great challenge and want to thank the fabulous Julie Koerber for having me! (boy I love those exclamation marks LOL)

Here are the colors for this week....

The pink in this weeks Hues to Use really pops so I wanted to make sure the image I used highlighted that color. The digital set Bees in Foxglove was a great way to have the pink take center stage. Fun fact.... foxglove doesn't normally survive in my part of Alaska because of the winters, but it is quite prevalent down in SE Alaska.

After printing out my image I die cut it out with a rectangle panel and I used my Copics R81, R83 and R85 to color in the foxglove blooms. The leaves and stems were colored with Copics YG03 and YG25. I threw in a bit of Y04 to color the bees visiting the foxglove.

To bring in that light sandy color I used the same die I cut the image panel with to cut a piece of sandy colored patterned paper. I also used the die to cut a piece of pink patterned paper and set both of those at angles behind the main image panel. The card base is green embossed with a large polka dot folder, carrying on the polka dot theme of the patterned paper.

To finish off the card I used the sentiment from the Bees in Foxglove set, changing the color of the text to green. I cut the sentiment panel to the size I wanted and then cut the corners with a round corner punch and adhered it to the front of the card.

Make sure you head on over to the Power Poppy blog to play along with Hues to Use! If you play along YOU could be one of the next guests on the blog! Let's see what you can do with these colors :)

Thank you again to Julie and Power Poppy for having me as a guest this week!

Wish Big for Sketch Saturday

Happy Saturday! It's time for another sketch over at Sketch Saturday and it's also my final challenge as January guest DT. I'd like to thank the Sketch Saturday team for having me, I had a lot of fun!

This sketch has so many possibilities, I really love it! I decided to use this sweet digital stamp from LMMS called Val's Butterfly. This little elephant just makes me smile every time I look at her.

I started with a gray card base that I embossed with a CB folder and then I die cut my patterned paper to fit the front. The sentiment is from a retired SU set and was colored with markers and then stamped on white. I backed the white strip with the gray cardstock. Val was colored with copics and then popped up with dimensionals.

Make sure you head on over to the Sketch Saturday blog to see what the rest of the DT created and then play along with us! The challenge this week is sponsored by A Day For Daisies, and you have a chance to win a $12.00 GC to their shop!

Stamps: Val's Butterfly (LMMS), Word Play (SU retired)
Paper: Smoky Slate, Neenah Solar White, patterned paper from DCWV

Copics: TO, T1, T3

Flurry of Love

It's time for a new challenge over at Sketch Saturday and since it's been cold and snowy here in Alaska I created a fun winter themed card that would be perfect for Valentines Day!

This week the sketch is sponsored by Digital Stamp Boutique and they are offering up a $10.00 gift card to their store as a prize! I used an adorable image from them called Lulu-Snow Love. I absolutely adore snow and since we just got over a foot of new snow last weekend, with more due tonight, this image is perfect for me!

I colored the image in with copics and then used a circle die from MFT to cut her out. The DSP is retired paper from Stampin Up and I used a punch to round the corners. On the card base I used Baja Breeze ink to stamp snowflakes, to tie in the winter theme. The sentiment is from an MFT set.

Make sure you head over to Sketch Saturday to see what the rest of the DT created and then play along with us! Don't forget to browse the Digital Stamp Boutique store to see all of the great images they offer!

Stamps: Lulu-Snow Love (DSB digital stamp), MFT Warmest Wishes (sentiment), Snow Flurries (SU retired)

Monkey Love for Sketch Saturday

It's Saturday and that means it's time for another challenge at Sketch Saturday! This week the sketch is sponsored by Miss Tiina and she is offering the chance to win a $20.00 gift card to her store for those that play along.

I used one of the sock money images for my card, which can be found in the Miss Tiina store HERE. How cute is he with the string of hearts he is holding up? I used copics to color the image an kept it very simple, since I want the image to be the main focus of the card.

I used some Chocolate Chip DSP for the background and to stay with the sketch I placed some retired SU Real Red Ribbon across the back of the image panel and tied it off in a knot in the upper right.

Make sure you head over to the Sketch Saturday blog to see what the rest of the DT created and then play along with us!

Stamps: Sock Monkey Doodles (Miss Tiina Digital Stamp)
Paper: Real Red, (SU), Neenah Solar White, Chocolate Chip DSP (SU)
Ink: Printer Ink

Sketchy Moose

It's Saturday and I've got exciting news to share. For the month of January I'll be a guest designer over at Sketch Saturday! I love sketch challenges so I'm thrilled to be working with the awesome team over there. Today's Sketch Saturday challenge is sponsored by Little Miss Muffet Stamps, how fun is that?!

For my card I chose to use the Moose Love image. While we are still below normal for snow in my part of Alaska the snow we do have is helping bring down the moose from the hills into the lower elevations. Tonight my friend down the road looked out her front door to see 2 moose licking the salt off her truck! How fun is that?

I love sketches like this because they really allow the image to take center stage and that's what I did on my card...I printed out the LMMS image, colored it with copics, used my ScanNCut to cut out the image and then popped it up with dimensionals on my card. Because Valentines Day is just around the corner I went with a color scheme of red, kraft and white with just a touch of soft blue thrown in.

Make sure you head over to the Sketch Saturday blog to see the great inspiration from the DT and then play along with us! You can visit the LMMS store HERE to grab the Moose Love image or any of their other fun digital stamps! By playing along with Sketch Saturday this week you have the chance to win a $6.00 gift card to the LMMS store.

One of the cow moose enjoying what my friends yard has to offer. You can see how big she is compared to the truck, or the doorway to the garage.

Stamps: Moose Love (LMMS digital stamp), Sheltering Tree (SU-sentiment)
Paper: Crumb Cake (SU), Real Red (SU), Soft Sky (SU), Neenah Solar White
Ink: Real Red (SU), Printer Ink
Copics: E15, E17, E18
Accessories: ScanNCut, Cuttlebug, MFT Zig Zag Stitch Squares, MFT Zig Zag Stitch Rectangles, MFT Blueprints 27, Dimensionals

It's that time of year when seniors in high school are starting to think about upcoming graduation and the future that lays ahead. My nephew will be leaving us in August and heading to Boulder CO for culinary school and thinking about him and his classmates approaching the end of their high school careers helped inspire this card. I've already been down this road with my older 2 kids so you'd think I wouldn't be so emotional about it but I am LOL.

I used the SPD set 'Going Places'and used lots of bright colors to bring the card to life. Getting out on your own should be bold and fun so that's what I tried to convey with the colors and DSP.

I've got 2 boys and they have always loved dinosaurs. My 17 yr old is especially fond of them and as a huge movie buff he really enjoys all the Jurassic Park movies. As soon as I saw the Prehistoric Pals set I had to have it so I could make dino cards for my boys!

I wanted the scene to be the focus of the card so I used the layout from the sketch and surrounded it with white space so the colors from the scene would really pop.

For today's card I used the adorable set 'Tons of Fun'. I just love this sweet elephant! I colored him in with Copics and popped him up with dimensionals above a panel of white embossed cs. I created the banners using the new SugarCuts Stiched Flags. I added a bit of faux stitching on the flags with a white gel pen.

I used their set Foxy Friend for this weeks sketch. When we first moved to Alaska in 2008 one of our very first wildlife encounters was with young fox kits that had been orphaned. It was an amazing experience and this sweet fox image always makes me think of that day! I colored him in with copics and popped him up against the circle. I added the sentiment in a banner across the bottom of the circle.

Now it's your turn! We'd love to see you at the Sugar Pea Designs Sketch Challenge!

Merry Monday Guest

Last Monday I was so excited to see that my Christmas moose card:

was chosen as the Top Pick for the Merry Monday challenge, and that meant I was asked to be the Guest Designer for this weeks Merry Monday challenge. As someone who adores Christmas and makes Christmas cards throughout the year I'm ecstatic at the chance to join in as Guest Designer!

Lesley has a great sketch for us this week and here is my take on it. The Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details was still wet when I took the photo and now that its dry it looks really nice, it gives the background paper a nice 'pop'. I also added some clear Dazzling Details to some of the snowflakes on the the main image panel.

I did paper piercing around the edges to help define the sections and give the eye a little something extra to take in and used a white gel pen to add some faux stitching.

Head on over to the Merry Monday challenge and check out the great inspiration from the design team and make sure you play along! Only 260 days until Christmas!

I'd like to thank Lesley and the Merry Monday crew for having me join them today, its a thrill for me!

Skating Through For Merry Monday

I've got a lovely treat this week....I was asked to be a guest designer for today's Merry Monday challenge, as Lesley chose my snowman card as last weeks winner. I love Christmas cards and this challenge, so of course I am super excited!

Lesley has a great sketch for us this week and as soon as I saw it I knew I wanted to use the ice skates image from the 'Winter Memories" set. I just love this set and hadn't inked up this particular image yet. I've also got snow on the brain, since the mountains that surround the valley I live in just got their first dusting of the white stuff and Denali Natl Park, 150 miles north of me, got a couple of inches over the weekend! Therefore I decided to just use the same snowflake DSP for all the elements of this sketch. I did change the 2nd strip across the middle by moving it to the right and making it a small strand of silver stretch cord instead of paper. I added some Dazzling Details and Stickles to help give the image a little 'pop'.

Make sure you head over to the Merry Monday challenge over at Always Playing With Paper and check out the rest of the great cards from the design team, and then make sure you play along. Christmas is only 105 days away! :)

Supplies used(all supplies SU unless otherwise noted):
Stamps: Winter Memories,  snowflakes from Jolly Old Saint Nick
Paper: Baja Breeze, Whisper White, Snow Festival DSP
Ink: Black StazOn, Baja Breeze, Sahara Sand, Gumball Green
Accessories: Dazzling Details-Cherry Cobbler, Silver Stickles, Silver Stretch Cord, Coluzzle, Cuttlebug, Swiss Dots EF, Blender Pen, Watercolor Pencils, sponge, dimensionals
