Happy Spring

Happy Friday! Are you ready for the weekend? I know I am! We are supposed to get more snow and the moose are already out like crazy in the neighborhood so the new snow should really send them into the yard. I'll be out with my camera hoping for some good shots!

Today is Friday Fun with the Power Poppy crew! Normally I would showcase a digital stamp but I just got this clear set, Bloomin' Wonderful, this week and I really wanted to ink it up. I'll be back with a digital stamp next week!

I love this wreath, it has one of my favorite flowering branches, forsythia. I grew up in New England and forsythia was everywhere. I always loved the bright yellow of the flowers taking over the landscape, it just spoke to my heart. When I saw this wreath had forsythia on it I had to get it! That's one thing I love about Power Poppy images, they bring back such wonderful memories for me, whether it's of places I once lived or people that were important to me. Isn't that what we want with our stamps and the projects we make with them, to feel a connection with them? Ok, ok, no more deep thoughts from me today LOL

I used my copics to color the image. I actually had a big blob accident on the wreath and spent 2 days clearing it up! Hopefully it's not too noticeable to folks where it happened.

Make sure you check out what the rest of the Power Poppy team is having fun with today!

Love One Another

I started coloring this card toward the end of last week and then I got knocked out of commission with a nasty cold. I hate it when that happens, especially when I had a 3 day weekend that I didn't get to enjoy! I finally had enough energy to get this card finished up on Monday, thankfully.

The image is from the Power Poppy digital set Love One Another. I just love irises and tulips, they are such happy flowers. It's funny, I don't like the color purple in day to day stuff but when it comes to flowers give me a purple and yellow combo any day!

Thanks for stopping by!

Time to Fly

It's my favorite time of the month...new digital stamp release at Power Poppy! I always get SO excited to see what Marcy has in store for everyone and she never disappoints!

For my card I used the set Time to Fly:

A meandering mix of butterflies and anemones swirl through the gears of time in this intricate design. Variations are included with both richly detailed butterflies and more simplified wings, also choose from ornate watch hands and very simple ones. Be sure to crop into this one to create a scene that works for you if you don't feel like tackling the entire drawing. Images are in light grey as well as black.

For my card I decided to go with bright colors and kept the butterflies simple because honestly, I was scared to try and get too much detail with the butterflies. LOL I'm just not as talented as some people who can look at an example and then translate it to their stamped image. I did google butterflies and used some of the images I found as the inspiration for the colors I chose.

The sentiment I used is from the clear set Geraniums Take Two and I thought it went perfectly with this image! I kept it simple by stamping it in black on a piece of white card stock that was die cut. I didn't want the sentiment to take away from the image so I think keeping it simple and in the corner keeps the eye on the colors of the image.

The other set released today is called Shimmering Flight:

The colorful hollyhocks and Native American turquoise-and-silver jewelry of New Mexico were on my mind when conjuring this drawing. Variations in this set include a faceted gemstone with a dragonfly, originally drawn expressly for Alyce Keegan's Kit and Clowder classes, and a version of the turquoise/hollyhocks with a dragonfly. Images are in light grey as well as black.

Head on over to the Power Poppy blog to see the amazing cards that were created with this digital stamp set, they are fabulous!

Make sure to go check out these new digital stamp sets, they have something for everyone in them and I think you'll love them as much as I do :)

Pssst....be sure to check out the sale section too....wow there are some awesome deals going on right now!!

Inspired by Song

Happy Tuesday friends! This week I'm the host of  Creative Confetti on the Power Poppy blog and I want everyone to get inspired by song. Music plays a big part in my life and like a lot of people I associate certain songs with certain events or people in my life. Sometimes it's a melody that will make me think of my dad, a song title that takes me back to a summer night, the scent of lilacs moving through the air. How has the magic of song inspired you?

HOW TO PLAY: Make a card inspired by a song! Maybe the title of the song has a flower mentioned in it, maybe a certain melody reminds you of flowers received on a special date? Let your imagination run wild with this!

On to my creation!

I had a few ideas going through my head for this. I originally had The Rose by Bette Midler as my inspiration but then I was listening to the 60's music station on my TV when Crimson and Clover by Tommy James and the Shondells came on. I absolutely love that song and it reminds me of being a kid and sitting on the stairs that led to our family room. My parents had a pool table down there and on Saturday nights they would play pool with their best friends while listening to oldies on the radio. To this day I can still picture my dad standing there with his pool stick waiting to take his shot, his head bobbing to the tunes.

With St.Patrick's Day not too far away I decided to use the digital stamp Shamrock 'n' Roll. I'm a pretty literal person so the image is perfect for the song title plus the title of the stamp set goes nicely with the theme this week :)

After coloring the shamrocks I decided to do the clover in pink. There is a crimson clover that is native to Europe and which has been introduced to the US but I thought that going that deep of red would make the card look too Christmassy. The pink pairs nicely with the green, giving off a nice spring feel!

I had the patterned paper in my stash and it was the perfect mix of greens to go with my image! I wanted to bring in a tad more of that pink so I die cut a panel of pink card stock and angled it underneath a piece of olive green card stock that I embossed with an argyle pattern. I printed out the sentiment from the set and then popped that up across the bottom portion of the card to complete things!

Now it's your turn Creative Confetti fans! Let's see how music inspires you!  Don't forget to link up your creation over at the Power Poppy blog so we can ALL see what you've whipped up and you'll be entered into our monthly drawing for a $25 gift code to the Power Poppy Shop. You have all month to play along!

See you soon!

Natures Christmas Colors for Creative Confetti

Hello everyone! It's time for a new Creative Confetti Challenge over at the Power Poppy blog and this week I am the host!

I love Christmas and everything it has to offer but I'm pretty traditional and usually use a lot of red and green on my holiday projects. I need to push myself to break out of that mold and try different color combinations and that's how this weeks challenge came about.

For my card I used the Bough Wow Wow clear set. I just love this set and 2 the different boughs in it. I went with the bough with the ribbon and mittens on it, as that is totally something I'd have hanging on my front door!

Blue and green are actually my favorite colors, I just don't generally use them together for Christmas. For this image I decided to make the mittens blue, the ribbon gray and of course I colored the greenery with my green markers. I did add a small pop of red with the heart but you can see that blue and green are the primary colors. I also used silver Stickles on the fuzzy snow puffs to add some more gray to the mix.

Head on over to the Power Poppy blog to play along, I'd love to see what YOU do with these colors. Don't forget, the more you play along during the month the better your chances of winning a $25.00 gift card to the Power Poppy shop. With all the new images added to the shop this month you could really stock up!

Power Poppy Day 9- Glitter House Village

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you all are having a wonderful day with those you love!

Today at Power Poppy the focus is on the Glitter House Village clear stamp and guess what, as of today you can now get this image in digital form as the Glittery Village! How fun is it going to be to resize this stamp and do all kinds of fun things with it?

For my card I kept it simple (that's how I roll, lol), using some fun red patterned paper for my background and a brown frame to set it all off. It's hard to see but I used jelly roll glitter pens on the trees and houses for snow and ornaments, so there is some sparkle to the card!
Don't forget, on my Day 8 post I'm offering a $20.00 voucher to the Power Poppy store but you have to answer the question! Head over to that post if you haven't done so already and then check out what the other DT members did with the Glitter House Village!

Power Poppy Day 8- Handmade With Love Digis Plus a Giveaway!

Today there is something really fun available in the Power Poppy shop.....digital gift tags!! These designs are so festive and will be the perfect accent to any gift you give. Here is what Marcella had to say about these awesome tags:

A plump package of EIGHT holiday tag designs featuring hand-drawn illustrations by Marcella Hawley. This is one versatile digital download, folks. You get 8 tag designs both with AND without a sentiment inside. Feel free to personalize as you need! Each tag has space for you to sign your name or write out the recipient’s name if the tag is used for gifts.
Images are 3" x 3" and can be resized to suit your tag-making needs. (Digital images are the bees' knees for things like that!)
Images feature everything from a single gift with a ribbon border to a reindeer with ornamental antlers. One features an embroidered look, another a woodsy Thermos with pinecones and twigs. There’s something for everyone!
NOTE: I am still working on the 8th tag... I promise it will be adorable. After purchase, you will receive a note to download the tag when it is added if you buy this set before the tag design is complete.
I used 3 of the designs to create some tags. I stayed with my usual theme of red and green with some brown thrown in :) What can I say, I like traditional for Christmas :)

Here is the really fun part.....I am giving away a $20.00 voucher to the Power Poppy shop!! All you have to do is comment on this post and tell me what your favorite Power Poppy Christmas stamp is. It can be a clear stamp, a digital one, it doesn't matter, just tell me which one you can't live without for your Christmas card making! Entries will close at noon Alaska time on Monday Dec.2nd. The winner will be announced on the Power Poppy blog on Dec.4th (my daughters birthday, wooohoo!)

Don't forget to check out the rest of the DT and see what they did with these fabulous tags!

Power Poppy Day 7- Berry Sweet Holiday , Merriest Berries, Wreath Felt Leaves and Fruits

Today we are revisiting a clear stamp set and 2 great digital stamp sets: Berry Sweet Holiday, Merriest Berries and Wreath:Felt Leaves and Fruits

For my card I used the digital stamp Wreath: Felt Leaves and Fruits. I colored in the leaves and berries and then pulled out the Stickles once again to make the pom pom's in the image nice and sparkly. I think I've used more glitter this last week then the last 6 months, my daughter will be proud LOL The sentiment on the card is from the Berry Sweet Holiday clear stamp set, I stamped it in a cherry red to match the berries and pom pom's.

Go check out what the other DT members created and then head on over to the Power Poppy shop to pick up these great sets!

Power Poppy Day 6- New Poinsettia XL Digital Stamp

Today Power Poppy is releasing a FABULOUS new digital stamp set called Poinsettia XL. If you love poinsettias at Christmas this is definitely a must have set!

Here is what Marcella had to say about her amazing design:

The powerhouse of a Poinsettias. This digital download supplies three variations of this vivacious, velvety Christmas classic. With slightly puckered and rippling leaves, you can add lots of dimension and life to this festive plant though your coloring. Includes a large single bloom, Poinsettia with a stem and secondary leaves, the stemmed image with hand lettered "Joy to the World", AND a 5x7" supersized, full-bleed image to steal the show! Each image includes a light grey version for no-line coloring. Go XL and really dive into those petals this season.

For my card I kept it nice and simple. I'm pretty traditional so I stuck with a red poinsettia on a white background, with the letters Joy to the World colored in a gold inspired tone.

Head on over to the rest of the DT blogs and see the amazing interpretations of this image, you will truly be blown away by the creativity! Don't forget to go by the Power Poppy shop when you're done and add this amazing digital stamp set to your collection!

Power Poppy Day 5- Favorite Holiday Set

We're on Day 5 of the Christmas Remix at Power Poppy and today it's all about our favorite stamp, whether it's a clear or digital one.

It was really hard for me to nail it down to just one set as all of the Power Poppy Christmas sets are spectacular and I love working with each and every one of them. However, I ended up choosing Flowering Santa (found in the Power Poppy shop HERE) because it is just so unique and finding another image like this is pretty much impossible!

Anyone ever watch the show Friends? To paraphrase Joey Tribbiani... What's not to like? Christmas? Goooood! Flowers? Goooood! Santa? Goooood!

For my card I went with some cool colors that I pulled from the patterned paper I used. I wanted the big flower in his beard to be the stand out so I made that one bold and kept everything else a bit more muted.  I just love how this stamp looks good no matter what color combo one uses!

Here are some previous cards I've made with this set:

Power Poppy Day 4- Winter Flora Digital Stamp

Today Power Poppy is releasing a FABULOUS new digital stamp set called Winter Flora. The coloring possibilities for this set are just endless, the only thing stopping you is your imagination!

Here is what Marcella had to say about her amazing design:

"Whimsical, wildly wonderful, and a total wow — Winter Flora is a botanical set that goes beyond. You'll love tackling this tangle of Poinsettia, Sweet Bay Magnolia, and Hellebores plus verdant bits of Holly, Pine, and Spruce, punctuated by berries and glass ornaments! There are so many ways you can take this. You can go classic red, white, and green. Think pink with various shades of pastel prettiness. Infuse warm glimmers of yellow, bronze, and gold. You get multiple versions of this bodacious border — with and without sentiments."

For my card I featured an image from the set that has all the beautiful elements of the design along with the 'merry' in the middle of the card. I am naturally drawn to darker, more earthy colors so I made my poinsettia a nice rich red. I wanted the other flowers to be more subtle yet hold their own so I picked colors that would compliment the poinsettias. The ornaments scattered throughout the image stumped me a bit though. I decided to give my daughter a call...we have very opposite tastes but she's always great for bouncing ideas off of when it comes to my cards. After much discussion we decided that I would try some Stickles Green and Silver for the ornaments. After it dried I called her back and told her how much I loved the end result and she tells me "well, I'm pretty much on the Power Poppy team myself now" ROFL
Make sure you head on over to see what the rest of the DT did with this great digital stamp set and then get on over to the Power Poppy shop to add this set to your collection!

Power Poppy Day 3- O Holy Night

It's Day 4 of the Power Poppy Christmas remix and today we're focusing on the clear stamp O Holy Night and the digital stamp Snowy Church, both of which are ON SALE right now in the Power Poppy Shop HERE.

For my card I used the clear set O Holy Night. I love this image, it reminds me of growing up in New England and seeing all of the old churches lit up for Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve.

Last month I did a card with this image for a Creative Confetti challenge and I used all sepia tones. This time around I decided to go with blue and blue violet tones. I work night shift and in the winter our snow often gets a blue cast to it because of the moonlight, so that's what I was trying to channel on this card. I also wanted to keep the background very simple so I did an embossed white panel with just simple strip of card stock that matches the colors of the image.

Pop on over to the blogs of the rest of the DT for more inspiration and then head on over to the Power Poppy store to pick up the clear set O Holy Night or the digital version, Snowy Church!
