Sunshine & Rainbow Skies for PP684

Happy Sunday and Happy April, crafty friends!
Time for a new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, it’s my pleasure to be hosting our Theme Challenge.

My theme is “Sunshine & Rainbows which I think is so fitting for the season. Here are a couple of ideas for this theme to get your creative mojo working:

Sunshine & Rainbows -
Use a sun, rainbow or "rainy day" theme (umbrellas, rain boots, etc)
on your card

I sure hope you will take this challenge for a spin and join us over at The Paper Players. We’d love to see what YOU create!

*I’ve shared list of measurements along with a supply list of products used to create this card at the end of this post.

When I came up with the theme for the challenge, I already knew that I would be using the Bright Skies stamp set and coordinating dies from the Stampin’ Up!® Mini Catalog. Sunshine and clouds? Check. Now on to that rainbow. I thought it would be fun to do a little “scrappy strip” rainbow on my card front because you can never have too many bright and happy colors on one card.

I searched and searched for some patterned paper that I liked and I finally settled on the Sunny Days Designer Series Paper. This paper was avaialable to earn for FREE during Sale-a-Bration in January and February of this year. I happened to earn a LOT of it, so instead of letting it take up space in my craft room unused, I really wanted to use it for this card. You could even stamp some clouds from the set in the background to create a similar look if you didn’t have the paper. Or add some embossing for texture.

I also added a little smily face to the sunshine using the Taco Fiesta stamp set, which was designed by my dear friend Erica Cerwin. Adding a little smiley face is a little detail that really adds so much, don’t you think? This is such a happy card, sure to bring a smile to the recipient’s face. To finish things off I added some Iridescent Foil Gems because you always have to have a little “pop” (wink, wink) of gold at the end of a rainbow.

Card Measurements:
  • Daffodil Delight Card Base: 5-1/2” x 8-1/2”, scored at 4-1/4”
  • Shaded Spruce Cardstock: 5-1/4” x 4”
  • Sunny Days Designer Series Paper (Sale-A-Bration, no longer available): 5-1/8” x 3-7/8”
  • Bubble Bath, Melon Mambo, Poppy Parade, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Lemon Lime Twist, Shaded Spruce, Pool Party, Azure Afternoon & Gorgeous Grape Cardstock: 1/4” x 4-1/4” each
  • Basic White Cardstock: scrap for stamping/die-cutting sun and  (3) cloud die-cuts
  • Shaded Spruce Cardstock: 5-1/8” x 3/4”, stamp & heat emboss sentiment, then banner punch each end with Banner’s Pick a Punch
  • Basic White Cardstock (card interior): 5-1/4” x 4”
  • Sunny Days DSP (card interior): 5-1/4” x 3/4”

Finally a peek inside the card! I added another strip of that Sunny Days DSP, this time in the rainbow pattern. I also stamped another smiling sunshine to “keep the party going from the front of the card”. I made a bunch of these to have on hand to cheer up a friend when they need a little “happy mail” to brighten their day!

Brightest Beauty for PP611

Happy Sunday, friends!
Time for a fun new creative challenge over at The Paper Players
This week, the always lovely Joanne is hosting our Theme Challenge.
Can you believe it’s already October? I feel like the second half of this year is just flying by, I’m not sure why. Our theme this week is perfect for this time of year: Changing Seasons - AutumnAutumn is my favorite season, although we don’t really get the best of it here in south Texas. Our temps are STILL in the 90’s during the day (ugh, already…) but it is cooling off to the high 50’s at night. We are getting there, slowly but surely!

*I’ve listed all of the measurements and details for my card below and there is a full supply list at the very end of this post.
Color Combo:
For my card, I decided to use a new to me set from the Stampin’ Up July - December Mini Catalog. The Brightest Beauty stamp set and coordinating Golden Beauty Dies are just gorgeous and paired with this color combo are perfect for the fall season. I love how easy it is to layer up the die cut images and that label for the sentiment is just so pretty with the delicate detail. The Texture Chic Specialty Designer Series Paper added a little pop of gold which I thought added a subtle elegant touch. I also added some texture to the background with the Timeworn Type 3D Embossing folder and I just noticed the word “harvest” in the embossing, which is kind of cool for the theme as well.
Card Measurements & Details:
  • Cajun Craze Card Base: 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2”
  • Sahara Sand Cardstock: 4” x 5-1/4”
  • Texture Chic Specialty Designer Series Paper: 3-7/8” x 5-1/8”
  • Sahara Sand Cardstock: 2-1/2” x 5-1/8”, emboss with Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder and add some Sahara Sand ink around edges and raised areas with a Sponge Dauber
  • Sahara Sand Cardstock: scrap to stamp sentiment in Soft Suede ink, die cut with label and add some Sahara Sand ink around the edges with a Sponge Dauber
  • Soft Succulent, Cajun Craze & Crushed Curry Cardstock: scraps to die cut the leaves and flowers
  • Add Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush to flowers for added sparkle
  •  Linen Thread and Brushed Brass Butterflies
  • Basic White Cardstock (inside card): 4” x 5-1/4”, stamp sentiment in Soft Suede ink, stamp decorative images in Soft Succulent ink stamped-off once to lighten the ink
  • Texture Chic Specialty Designer Series Paper: 4” x 1/2”
Finally, here is a peek inside the card! I added another strip of that beautiful DSP to bring a pop of gold inside. I also added some texture with that beautiful stamped image along with a coordinating sentiment. I really like how this card came together and I hope you do as well. :)
