Nurgle Faun

With my Great Unclean One competition coming up in two weeks, I thought you all needed some Nurgle inspiration! Here is my first Nurgle Faun. I'm planning to make a small warband of these guys. I'll paint them to match my Poxwalkers and and the Black Pox Pestigor warband I made last year. However, I'll try to keep the technological parts to a minimum, so I also can use the fauns as a warband for AoS28.

I filmen all the steps when I painted this guy. I'm planning to make a YouTube channel and start making a few painting and converting videos. But editing videos are harder and more time consuming than I thought, so it'll still be a little while until the first video is done.

The Faun are based on a Plaguebearer with Tyranid Gaunt legs. The hands and axe are form a Poxwalker, and the head is from an Empire Flagellant.

Lesotho 212: the Survivors & the Infected

Last month I visited Warhammer World in Nottingham for a INQ28 game. It was a great game with a LOT of talented hobbyists. I've never seen that many fantastic warbands in one day. Jonathan Hartman (@Shibboleth02 on Instagram) arranged the event, and made the breathtaking terrain.

I'll leave links to blogs and instagram-accounts on the bottom of the page. I really recommend checking them out!!

I have a lot of photos from the game, but I'm saving them for the battle-report I'll write in the next post. This post will focus on the miniatures I made for the event.

I mostly used Poxwalkers and resin Servitors to make the Survivors and the Zombies. I wanted to make it look like all the miniatures came from the same research facility. My goal in the game was to get my survivors out of the Lesotho 2-12 labyrinth. I wanted it to look like my gang originally worked at the facility, so I painted them in white and bright orange to match the colours of the terrain.

The biggest mutant I made was based on a Forge World Plague Ogryn. This was actually the same miniature John Blanche used for making one of his abominations:

Tutorial: Step by step Pestigor

I've gotten a lot of great respons on my new Nurgle Warband, Black Pox. Thanks to everyone giving me feedback on these models here, on Facebook, Instagram and the Inq28 Ammobunker forum. A lot of you have asked me how I painted the skin on these models. These are the first models I've made in a while just for fun. They are not ment for any painting competition or big event. Both the converting and painting of these models are very rough, quick and a lot of fun.

I. The model is primed Corax White.

II. The skin is given a coat of Reikland Fleshshade. This is applied in a thin layer, no need to get any contrast at this point.

III. Start the shading prosess by applying Carroburg Chrimson in the recesses and places with shade, like under the belly and the inside of the legs.

IV. last step was repeated with a mix of Coelia Greenshade and Seraphim Sepia.

V. Fuegan Orange was applied in the same way, consentrated a bit more in the darker areas, and as a glaze to break up larger flat areas of skin.

VI. Pure Coelia Greenshade was carefully applied where I wanted an even darker shade.

VII. Pallid Wych Flesh was used as a thin highlight to give a bit more contrast.

This is the last step of the skin. If you use this method for painting Plaguebearers or some other naked  mutant things you're basically done. When painting like this it's important to use this as an inspiration and not follow the same steps every time. This model was painted with whatever shades I had in front of me. I'm currently painting a Pestigor using Athonian Camoshade and Druchii Violet as shades and glazes. It's important to experiment when painting like this. If you want the models to look more classic Nurgly use more Camoshade and Earthshade, Slaaneshii models can have a couple of extra coats of Violette and Tzeentch can have a couple of blue coats.

VIII. Fur, claws, nails and hoofs were painted Mechanicus Standard Grey.

IX. The horns and mask/skull were painted Rakarth Flesh, and the fur was drybrushed in the same colour. The fur was then drybrushed with Pallid Wych Flesh.

X. The fur was washed in Seraphim Sepia. While the shade was still wet, a little Carroburg Crimson was added to it to make the colour richer. The claws and hoofs were washed with Carroburg Crimson.

XI. Watered down Mechanicus Standard Grey was used to shade the recesses of the mask. Then it was highlighted by Pallid Wych Flesh. A wash of Camoshade was applied to the mask. Finally it was re-highlighted using Pallid Wych Flesh. The skulls on the other Pestigors were painted in the same way.

XII. The antlers was done by applying GW shades over a Rakarth Flesh basecoat. The shades were applied in thin layers, adding more and more towards the edges of the antlers. I used sepia, green, crimson and finally black to achieve this.

XIII. The base, weapon and any metal areas were painted Dryad Bark. The base was then overbrushed Death World Forrest. Several metal colours were stippled on the barrel ti give the gun a worn look. Yellow was stippled ons some plates to give the gun more variation. Finally the metal and yellow was washed with a mix of sepia and cammoshade.

XIV. The details on the base were painted, and the metals and yellow were highlighted using the same colours as before. Finally the base was given a heavy wash of sepia and orange.

XV. Baserim painted black.

Black Pox part II: More Pestigors

Here are some WIPs of two other Plaguebearer based Pestigors.

This first one has a Genestealer Cult shotgun, Tyranid legs and Wood Elves antlers. I really like its long insectile legs.

This other one have been shared on this blog a long time ago. It has been sitting on my desk for several months, and now I finally got around to continue working on it. The legs have been replaced by longer horse like legs from a Wood Elves steed. It has also gotten a set of antlers to match the other members of the warband .

As I said in the previous post, this project is started by me and three other hobbyists. Rebecca is currently working on her Tzeentch warband. Her leader will be riding this brilliant Dali inspired beaked pig.

Lastly I have a picture of a fun little character by John Blanche. I'm planning to make a miniature based on this creature.
