FUGAZI - Live A Forte Prenestino - (Kontagio Produzioni-Italy-1990)

 Another live cassette at the famous social squatted center Forte Prenestino released by Kontagio Produzioni back in the 90s. Fugazi needs no introduction,and they played in this squat a few times, this is their gig on the 24/10/1990, the recording is OK and I left it unindexed.

For who missed the other posts: Kontagio Produzioni Tapes was a small distro releasing mostly live tapes recorded in this massive squat(probably the biggest in Europe).
Forte Prenestino is, in fact, a fort squatted on the end of the 80s and still alive and kicking.

SUICIDAL SUPERMARKET TROLLEYS- S.S.T. -(Self Released-UK-1990)

 Second demo by this legendary band from London/Romford, I have already posted another tape by them released in 1993. 

This K7 came out with a lyrics sheet, recording is pretty good, lyrics are great and the music is  violent HC Punk.

 I left these tracks as waves and I am including a video of  1 of their classics.

BASTRO - Sing The Troubled Beast - (Homestead Records-USA-1990)

 Fantastic LP by this American trio called Bastro from Louisville, Kentucky!! Their powerul mix of noise rock,post hardcore and math rock is explosive and I bet that they were a great live act. 10 tracks of this long playing, that doesn`t appear on their Bandcamp Page, I left these tracks as waves. Enjoy it.

Circonvallazione N2 - (Fanzine-Italy-1990)

Circonvallazione was a zine made of poetries,short stories,drawings and comics.Totally DIY and self-produced by a bunch of folks into literature and art. This issue has 76 pages full of fantasy, various drawings, poems, short stories and similar stuff. It is in Italian language, only. Enjoy it if you are Italian literate.

NOTAUSGANG - Kaltenberg Hell - (Self Released-Germany-1990)

 

 Live tape by the German Notausgang, 16 tracks of pure punk rock with a lo-fi recording,some songs are sung in English some other in German language.I have to admit that I have very little info about this band ,the folded cover sleeve reports a few info and some writings in German ,only.Enjoy it.

Tendencies N05 - (Fanzine-Italy-1990)

  Tendecies was an indipendent publication active on the end of the 80s, printed in 200 copies, an idea by Giorgio Bartolomei with the help of a few friends, focusing on  music and art. I have already posted issue 04. This is the 05 and it contains interviews to: Underground Life, Somewhere In Europe and articles about The Rest and Venus Fly Trap + some comics and tons of reviews of zines and music productions.

A great tool to research the fantastic music and art scene of the last century,this is underground press at its best.In Italian language only.

v.a . - Icare - (Orcadia Machina-France-1990)

 

This compilation is dedicated to the myth of Icare (Icarus) and inspired by the poem "Icare Est Chu Ici, Le Jeune Audacieux" by the french poet Philippe Desportes (1546-1606). This poem is used as lyrics in all the songs, but not always in its original french version.

Released in a VHS, thin plastic, clam shell case with a regular cassette jewel case inside.
The VHS case has a 1-sided sheet for the cover insert with a white feather placed in the back sleeve, a copy of the "Icare Est Chu..." sonnet glued inside, and an artist contact sheet insert.
The cassette jewel case has a 1-sided 4-panel j-card insert and this is released on a paper labeled black plastic type II cassette.
Artist tracklisting credits, time, and Icare myth are printed on the j-card.
There are no track titles printed on this release.

A great tool to research the lively underground world of the early 90s touching the politics, various music scenes (industrial,experimental,rock,punk), the  mail art, the alternative press and more. LUNACHICKS – Cookie Moshter / Complication-(Blast First-UK-1990)

 

Lunachicks are an American punk rock band from New York City.^[1] The band formed in 1987 and had been on hiatus since 2000,they reunited for a 20-minute set at CBGB's on April 6, 2002 with Benezra on guitar and English on drums.^[13] Another reunion took place at the March for Women's Lives Benefit in Washington, D.C. on April 24, 2004 as a four-piece with English on drums. In November 2019, the Lunachicks announced their first reunion in 15 years which they were set to perform two nights at Webster Hall in April 2020. Labels (not sleeve) have band name intentionally misspelled as Lunachips in keeping with the cookie theme.

 

ZYGOTE-Zygote-(Bluurg Tapes-UK-1990)

 

Zygote formed after Amebix split in the late 1980s and consisted of former Amebix members Spider, George Smutpig & Stig with the addition of former The Smartpils member Tim Crow. The band was short-lived and only released one full-length album.

DUMA YARMA-Bomb In A Crowded Restaurant-(Pesants Revolt Records-UK-1990)

 There is not much info on the net about this band, just a couple of songs on Youtube and their 2 LPs listed on Discogs yet no words at all. I have fragmented reports, they formed in 1988 and probably disbanded around 1992/93. They were from Reading and friends with Radical Dance Faction , they played often together in festivals and parties. This is their first vinyl issued with a folded A2 16 page photocopied booklet, made at Acorn Bookshop, Reading (UK).It reports the lyrics and quite a few strong political messages as comic strips and weird graphics.it is included in the download folder.

 Their music is a personal blend of post-hardcore, new wave, and some hints of old-school industrial, definitely something very original. I don`t know much about the label although I reckon it was associated with the band. To complete this post I am adding the whole album from my Youtube Channel.

 Long compilation with many old bands playing mostly alternative rock,psychobilly,art-rock,old punk and pinch of blues,a touch of industrial,some abstract and ambient music.

Pigture Disc is a defunct German label which was located in Wuppertal, founded by Tim Buktu (2).

BRUME-Unrelated Landscape-(audiofile Tapes-USA-1990)

The project of the French composer Christian Renou, between musique concrete, sound collage and industrial noise. The project was on hiatus from 2000-2008, Renou releasing material under his own name. His official webpage is here.

The legendary New York industrial/experimental/electronic label audiofile Tapes was run by Carl Howard and active since the mid-1980s.

I  wrote about him quite a few time now.Here an interview  to him on Autoreverse Independent Music Magazine and another one on Media Hyperrel.org.

THE BRAIN OF MORBIUS-Ronnie Corbett`s Dead-(Bastard Haircut Records-UK-1990)

Legendary 12 ep by the weirdest band ever...genial and uncompromising Brain Of Morbius is not a band to describe easily!

 Absolutely mental as a live act! Lots of screaming, bleeding, crazy surreal keyboards and a seriously insane attitude to music are just a few of the ingredients that you can find in Brain Of Morbius songs! 

Back in 2014, I have posted their cd Pissing ON The Disco Lights released in 2000 and it is not yet listed on Discogs. Check it out if you like weird experiments and crazy vocals + more insane passages.

Gonna attach 3 videos from Youtube and I left this vinyl rip as waves.

DAWSON-First Peel Session 09/05/90-(Unreleased-UK-1990)

First Peel session by this amazing Scottish band, I have already posted the second one and some of their studio productions. As the description there fits very well in this post I just gonna C+P it here. I am adding a great video made for the song"Bears Den To Bagdad" discovered on their FB page.

Back in the early 90s, I was in touch with Dawson, They kindly sent me an amazing tape with some live recordings by various Scottish post-hardcore noise bands, the tape also contained 2 Peel sessions by Dawson! Unfortunately, I lost the letter that came with this cassette but I reckon these recordings were not released and I cannot find any info about it. I left them as waves.

I already wrote about this fantastic band: compared to names such as Butthole Surfers and Minutemen, Dawson throws in their songs sheer violence and electric energy mixing some Avant-guard fast chaotic guitars riffs, math rhythms, weird vocals and experimental jingles that make their music original and difficult to categorize.

 Coming out from the very lively Noize Post Hardcore punk scene from the end of last century, they shared common interests and sweats with Stretchheads, Whirling Pig Dervish and  Archbishop Kebab, all very original bands hailing from Scotland.  An FB page about them is here, where you can see old flyers and pics, a new band formed by the 3rd era Dawson musicians are called Sumshapes and their Bandcamp page is here, you can listen/buy their album Cabin Biscuits released June 30, 2017.

I guess there is no need to talk about John Peel and his famous radio show, all the music lovers around the world should know John Peel already. The recording of this tape is excellent.
