This cassette is a pirate copy/diy release made in Mexico and it contains their demo released in 2008 + a few live recordings at the C.L.I.T. festival in Chicago in 2013.Their music is a raw/punch in your face HC punk with political lyrics. In 2007, Sangre de Abajo emerged from a need to challenge what punk meant at that time because we felt there was no cultural essence within the scene. From that burning need, we formed, here in Chicago, an all-female punk band of Mexican descent. It was with the purpose of filling that cultural void that we decided to incorporate the culture of the barrio and the ancestral Mexican culture with its Indigenous roots into our music. Sangre de Abajo is an all-female punk band composed of four members. Originally, our members consisted of Lupita (vocals), Martha (bass and backing vocals), Mariam (guitar and backing vocals), and Lupe (drums). In April 2009, we decided not to continue with the Sangre project for various reasons, but we continued to participate in the Chicago punk scene in other capacities. But we still saw an absence within the scene. So, because of that important need, Lupita, Martha, and Lupe got together in June 2013 with a new guitarist, Ara. The best way to describe our music is punk rock with old-school vibes. Our diverse influences stem from politics, Mexican punk, cumbia, hip-hop, and all the genres in between. We continue to learn our instruments and are determined to master them with the skills that allow us to evolve and improve our sound so we can continue to express ourselves.
