Sarissa Precision P041 Drive In Entrance WIP

My Black Friday purchase arrived today, so instead of chucking them in the later box. I decided to build all of them this week. Good thing I only bought 4 kits....so starting off with the Drive In Entrance.

This is what it is supposed to look like >>

But you know I have a very hard time keeping anything original, so....

I trimmed off the nubs for the big and long sign, reused just the Drive In section and glued that to roof. Reinforced that with some spare MDF strips on the base and behind the letters cause you know those will break asap. Added 2 supports as well. I snapped the part above the front door cause I was talking to the girls and not paying attention (so that is all on me) but that too was easily fixed with some spare strip of MDF. Then I snipped off the 4 nubs it had for the original sign, and added rim all around the edge (even if only to mitigate warping once painted) and now it is sorted.

Tomorrow I'll try and work out if it is worth the effort to use some soldering wire to weave around to make it more of a Neon sign.....but we will see if that will be worth the effort.

Otherwise, nice kit. No fitting issues that I noticed, will look grand once painted up.

And the whole reason I bought it in the first place....I already have the movie screen I made in the week(s?) after I got ran over 10 years ago, and it will be nice to close that.

Warbases Brick Garage Electrical work

A bit of soldering wire, scrap card and MDF and enough superglue to make you cry.

30 minutes well spent and a little 3D effect added to a otherwise flat kit.

Sarissa's Black Friday Sale 2025

Well, considering I have a couple of kilo's in the attic (MDF, not the powdery stuff) I really should not order anything, buuut....

I only picked up 4 kits this time.

28mm City Hall is a new release. This is for my 28mm Post Apoc collection. I already picked up some wooden dowels to replace the columns with.

Also a new release is the 28mm Drive In. This will go fine with the screen I made shortly after getting run over in 2015. I think it is time for it. Might change the name though.

I spotted the 28mm Marshport Refinery in a battle report a while back and I had it on my list for Stalker, so in the order it came. Will get a new roof and the top frame will be removed.

And the German Airfield Control Tower. Worn down, it will work perfectly for the Russian base in my Stalker collection. Will most likely have to severely harden the handrails as they look like card to me and I want them to last.

And that is it for this year. I don't expect to receive any of this before Christmas, the Post is pretty swamped as is. And I have plenty of other stuff to build before these....

Bam? Boo. Done!

It's good enough. All of the bases have now been Thymed. I ordered a big bag of the stuff for future needs as it is pretty good scatter.

41 bases done. Once it has all dried and the excess removed, into the box they go and grab the next unfinished project and repeat.

A nice mix of sizes so they work for a lot of things. I am happy it is done. I have way too many things languishing in a box cause the enthusiasm is gone. But if I push myself just a little bit and sit at the table while the girls are doing their homework, an hour here or an hour there gets shit done. The 2 a week hobby nights are the cherry on top.

Factory Frame basics done

Basics are done. This covers an area just shy of 3x3 feet, so a table all by itself. Now to pack it all up as the kids are back tomorrow, and then next week add some minor gritting etc and prime it.

The rest of the week will be spent with the kids, painting, and the Crisis show in Antwerp on saturday. Depends a lot on how I feel, not at my best atm.

Editing files to get more bang for my Euro

I wasn't quite happy with the lack of damage variants (Pristine, damaged or destroyed, that is it) so trying out new things and learning on the fly.

I wanted more broken side columns for the latter 2 bases, so snipped the original down to size and added 6 cylinders of various lengths for the rebar.

Original on the left, my version on the right

I need to testprint a few to see if it prints ok, and start editing the other colums as well as I want one fallen one that snapped off at the base, but that is for later today.

I also remoddeld the roof trusses, starting with the destroyed one and slicing less damaged parts into it. for variation.

Literal factorylining

Glued the spans, glued the legs, now superglue squares of paper over all of the seams (bolt plates) to give it extra rigidity, and then calculate out the base distance so everything is centered. After that glue in the longtitudenal beams. Once that is done check for cleanup and dremel some pieces for extra wear.

This is enough for 4 bases. The other 2 bases will be much more knackerd.

Working a a large factory frame - Ctrl+C > Ctrl+V and slice the night away.

I picked up the Large Hall Construction from Patrick Miniatures last week and I started printing. After finding out it really is a bit massive.....I started printing more.

But with 1 intact, 1 damaged and 1 destroyed part for each part it started to get repetevive quick. So I started with just cutting the lengthway beams down the middle and adding a mirror copy of the sliced side to it. Nothing rocketsience. Then I raised the bar a bit and spliced the underside of the broken column onto the top of the damaged column, to get that fine quality Russian concrete work feel that makes you eat a OSHA book. And then repeated that for the side columns.

They printed off fine, and I just got back from picking up some MDF sheets 40x23 so I can base it up 2 spars at a time, going from ok to knackered. The slots in between I'll use a marker mould to drill in holes for putty and magnets so I can click in the lengthway concrete beams. If I place down the full set you cover a space over a metre long and 40 cm wide.....a table all on its own tbh.

It was meant for Stalker....but tbh, should work fine for Historical, Necromunda, other Post Apoc etc.

WIP Silver Bayonet ......Roman Undead? Sure, why not.

Read that the new Britain book needs a few Roman zombies. It's not a period I would ever be interested in, but zombies I am, so.....why not. Traded some bits for a sprue of Warlord Romans (which apprantly are the worst, so great for Zombies then) and gave them heads from the Wargames Atlantic Pulp Zombies kit. They fit perfectly. Now to do cleanup, basing, arms etc. Might trade for another sprue so I have 16, and maybe another sprue to make skeletal ones just for funsies.

And somethimes it just doesn't work.

Multi part in 15mm and 28mm are coming out fine, the 15mm with a loss of detail but nothing terrible.

Starship engine printed at 15mm and ready for cleanup.

Scifi trams at 28mm and 15mm, ready for cleanup

Scifi train reay for assembly and cleanup, for the Stargrave scenario the Heist. Might add a passengercar to the list, the flatcars end up too thin on the sides to print safely so I will need to mod those a bit.

But then I try one of the WoW files again and it fails (again) at the 2nd layer.
Oh well, such is life

The Sarkarians (Verrotwood Cult)

Sarkar the Divine

Before the death of the Gods, the small village tended to the docile orb weaving Sarkarian spiders living in the nearby Forest around the shrine of Sarkar, and harvesting the strong fibers of their webs for a light and very expensive cloth. It was a hard life, but they managed.

And then the Darkness came.

Suddenly the spiders weren’t so docile anymore. Several workers are attacked and killed, their poisend bodies used as nurseries. Even worse, the spiders started growing, and growing, from small hand sized spiders to the size of a Bull. When they started entering the village in search of food, a local harvester donned a suit made of the special cloth and approached the largest spider carrying an offering of fresh meat wrapped in strands of web, wafting in a cloud of incense, weaving it left to right, stomping his feet and mumbling rhymes praising Sarkar to himself.

The spider stopped as if hallucinated, bowed down, and took the offering placed in front of his monsterous jaws, and backed off back into the forest. Sarkar would be pleased, if only we appeased His children more His favour would surely return.

But now the animals have all been slaughtered and fresh meat must be aquired, so the villagers are flooding the Forest in search of more fresh meat. Animal or Human, Sarkar cares not. And with enough offerings, Sarkar will decend from the heavens to give plentyful bounty to her followers.

Well, they hope anyway.

Pinetrees drying and ready for base primer and flocking

 Getting there.

Pining for the trees WIP

Picked up a joblot of tufts last week and in it was a big bag of H0 scale pine trees. Use it or lose it, so started basing them up this weekend.

Will work fine as young ones for STALKER and regular pines for 15-20mm. And yes, my dinnertable is a right mess atm.

Pain is finally receding again though my skin is still FUBAR, but at least I have an interest in doing stuff again instead lying in bed doped up. Jay.

Generic Cultists WIP

Tonight we have a playtest for Verrotwood and I have grabed a few of my Frostgrave sprues to make 2 sets of 9 Cultists with the various loadouts as listed in the rulebook. No special conversions as these are meant to ge generic and to get used to the game, that can come later.

Both sets contain, from L to R:

  • Generic Leader model with Heavy Blade (not needed in Verrotwood so can just double as a Heavy Blade Cultist)
  • Crossbow
  • Bow
  • Pole (in this case a spear and a halberd)
  • Heavy Blunted (A big hammer and a giant mace that I shaved the spikes off of)
  • Light Blunted (a mace and a hammer)
  • Heavy Blade (Identical curved blade)
  • Light Blade (I gave them both 2 knives)
  • Improvised (Meat chopper and a bone with a iron nail in it....you could argue the Meat chopper is a Light Blade but to me it feels more like something they grabbed from a better equipped kicthen of the Cook joining in )

Everyone has a pointy hat except the 2 Leader figures. They also have a slightly more exposed face and will get more time in the painting que. They are all from the Cultist and Cultist II box for Frostgrave, with the occasional part from other kits tossed in. I still need to do the basing, add pouches etc.

Colourwise....I just dunno. Lot's of washes to get them done, not a single conversion except a few weapons swaps already done. Either Dirty White, Dark Red or Dark Grey Black feels like a good colour....I just can't make my mind up yet. I will make another set of 9 or more with WW2 weapons, as I have plenty of spare sprues with Warlord Russian etc weapons, so I have options. I'm also looking at making 9 or so armed with muskets but I don't have any spare ones atm. I think.

This way I'll end up with enough Cultists for Pulp, Silver Bajonet, Horror etc.

In this case, they don't need or want them to be perfect. Better to have a decentish paintjob and get them to hit the table instead of languishing like some of my poor Stargrave figures are doing for years now. Then again, best laid plans and all that....

2nd set of graves

More graves for the graveyard. Again all Renedra Ltd but the fence around the double grave is from Noch.

Quite a bit of room left in the box so I better keep this up.

Verrotwood: Vicious Terrain - Sacraficial Altar

"Something awful happend here and now the ground itself is tainted with hatred"

If you do a melee attack within 3 inches of this terrain piece, you gain 1D10 attack dice.

Examples: Sacraficial rock, pile of bodies, etc.

I found this free STL ....somewhere?* I can't for the life find who made it, even when using the file name. I'm sure someone will someday tell me. Printed it off, used a saw to remove the badly printed goat skull that was there as sacrifice, sanded it smooth, coverd the gaping hole with some flatterend crumped paper and glued 4 Games Workshop skulls on top. To represent another team of 4 Cultists that had met a untimely end. Or timely, depending on your view.

*Edit: Apparently it is a Forest Shrine from this range Temple or Arba ....but I picked it up as a free STL, I think? It's not in my online receipts at any of the STL places. So I'm now showing off a pirated STL.....FML. I'll send a message to the creator.

This was a experiment on how to paint printed stuff, as it is very different from the MDF I'm used to. Lot's of sponging too on this one to subdue the printlines a bit. Didn't quite work the way I wanted to, but done is done. Size wise it fits in nicely with some of my other shrines.

So...the altar for He Who Ascends, The Allseeing Eye, or the Giant Spikey Boob*? Who knows, but it is done.

*You may thank Modhail for this: "All hail the malignant mammary of magnificent magnitude!"

Stalker grave marker - proof of concept tester

I grabbed a STL of a Orthodox cross yesterday and printed off at 2 sizes to see if it would print properly and if my idea would work for Stalker. The texture of my plate at the back gives that idea of really rough concrete, and the iron function on the front gives you the idea of exposed rebar, so yeah, this works.

Started and finished within 24 hours.....see, I can get shit done quick if I want to. (if only it was so easy but yeah....)

What lurks in the Jungle.... is finally bloody finished.

Last post about these was Feb 2024, but now the lot is finished. The 2 busted ones are more overgrown, and the intact ones I want to be able to use in various surroundings, so I made sure not to go overboard. I think I succeeded.

As planned, these are for 15mm.....but a bit big now that they are done, so into my 28mm Pulp box they go.

And the tacky original as they came in tacky garish colours at 1 euro a piece back then (these days 1,50 euros each cause of course, inflation)

For 15mm I really need to find one half the size, or have 10 of em printed in resin at the proper size. And do it all over again.....

A dead scene

First set of graves is done and tufted so they can go in the box, and I'll make a new batch in the near future. All Renadra in this one, with some minor mods by myself with card and chain. And a ton of tufts.
