Rokudenashi Sleepwalker by Flabslab x Paulus Hyu

Releasing on April Fool's day is Rokudenashi Sleepwalker by Flabslab and Paulus Hyu. A ridiculous lovechild between a Rottweiler and a French Bulldog, he was unplanned, unwanted and totally neglected. Based on the Sleepwalker character created by Paulus Hyu, each of these pieces were painted by Paulus. Limited to just 20 pieces, each Rokudenashi Sleepwalker measures in at 6" tall and is priced at $130 plus shipping. Wood and Acrylic DarthTerra by FLABSLAB

FLABSLAB, out of Singapore, is always hard at work creating new things. A couple of their latest creations involve laser cut wood and acrylic panels. DarthTerra, a Terracotta soldier and Darth Vader mash-up, has been created in 2 versions. The acrylic DarthTerra features a wooden base with an LED integrated into it, which lights the DarthTerra acrylic piece nicely. The acrylic is 4mm thick, while the entire setup measures 24.7cm high and a 8cm diameter base. Priced at $45 plus shipping, there are only a limited number of these acrylic DarthTerras. In addition to the acrylic cut version, FLABSLAB also released a laser woodcut DarthTerra. The design is the same as the acrylic DarthTerra but is completely made out of wood, packaged in a nice wooden box. Laser cut wood DarthTerra is priced at $44 plus shipping and is also produced in a limited number. Pick up one of these wonderful pieces before they are gone forever.

More Boba from Luke Chueh x Flabslab

Star Wars day' is upon us and to celebrate May 4th, Luke Chueh and Flabslab is going to release another batch of Boba busts. Priced at $300 plus shipping, this latest batch is going to be limited to just 30 pieces. The viewfinder is detachable to make shipping easier and since this piece is coming from Singapore, shipping can take anywhere from 10-20 days, depending on location. For those who are interested, these are going to be going up for sale at 7 am PDT on the Flabslab online store. These should go fast, so good luck and May the Fourth be with you!

Available now from FLABSLAB is the Killer Donut Choco Bear edition by Angry Woebots. Created as an homage to J. Dilla, Killer Donuts first released during SGTCC, in the OG Angry Woebots colorway. The latest release is this Choco colorway. All of the Choco Killer Donut's were painted by Angry Woebots during his short stint in Singapore a few months back. threeB - Boba, Bears and Bounty Hunters - Luke Chueh at FLABSLAB

Luke Chueh has teamed up with Singapore based FLABSLAB to create BOBA! Inspired by one of the universe's most famous Bounty Hunters and a delicious beverage, BOBA is a resin sculpture of Star Wars' Boba Fett character enjoying a drink of Boba (aka Bubble Tea). Luke Chueh originally created this representation as a painting, which was later turned into more affordable prints. Lately, Prints on Wood was able to create a small run of 100 wood prints for Designer Con 2014, which has since sold out. FLABSLAB was tasked to create BOBA in 3D and will be releasing this limited edition sculpture on November 21, 2014. Priced at $300USD/SGD380, BOBA sits around 9.5" tall. Now, for those Boba Fett aficionados out there, Boba is not 100% accurate by design(or by accident, does it matter?). FLABSLAB will be having a launch event on November 21st, in Singapore. Luke Chueh will be in attendance and has brought some goodies along with him for attendees to purchase. For all those not in Singapore and interested in purchasing BOBA, any leftover pieces will be made available for purchase online for $300 plus shipping, around November 24th.

#Maythe4thSG Custom Stormtrooper Helmet Show in Singapore to Benefit Charity

May the 4th is known worldwide as a day when we celebrate all that is great about Star Wars. In Singapore, they are throwing a custom show using the 5" Stormtrooper helmet by Imagine Nation Design Studios in the Philippines as a base for customs. Sales will benefit the Willing Hearts charity.

Singapore – 23 April 2014 – May The Fourth Be With You. Maythe4th.SG presents Singapore’s first fan-driven Star Wars Day – May The 4^th SG. 

May The 4^th SG is the inaugural celebration of the legendary film series, books, toys and culture of Star Wars, conceived out of the fervent passion and love a group of Star Wars fans share for the epic film series. By fans for the fans, May The 4^th SG presents a myriad of activities including Star Wars documentary screening and special appearances by 501^st Legion Singapore Garrison and FightSaber Singapore. 

Expect nothing short of epic from the programme line-up that will reminiscence, revive and honour the 37 year-old film series. The line-up includes a display of Star Wars toys by Hasbro Singapore, “Once-Upon-A-Stormtrooper” fan fiction contest, storytelling and ‘live’ doodling sessions by the artists from Band of Doodlers, the very first documentary screening in Singapore of Plastic Galaxy: A History of Star Wars Toys by Brian Stillman, X-Wing Miniatures tabletop game demo, workshops and activities for kids and fanatics. 

Attendees will also be treated to a performance and workshop session by FightSaber Singapore, South East Asia’s premier lightsaber performance troupe, and the exclusive sale of custom stormtrooper helmets by local and overseas artists where all proceeds from sale of the helmets will go towards helping the less privileged. 

Catherine Lim, brand manager of Hasbro Singapore says, “I am definitely bringing my kids to support the event.” Event organisers from Maythe4th.SG, Hansen Khoo and Jeffrey Koh of FLABSLAB, promise that audiences will be seeing some Star Wars items for the first time at the event and this is just a lead-up to a bigger and highly anticipated event in 2015 for the new Star Wars movie in the second half of 2015. 

 Supported by the National Library Board of Singapore, May The 4^th will be held at the Jurong Regional Library on May 4th 2014, Sunday from 11 am to 7 pm. The opening ceremony will see 501^st Legion Singapore Garrison, the largest garrison in South East Asia, grace the grounds in welcoming guests to the celebration. 

 

REVIEW: Angry Woebots Camo Backpack by FLABSLAB

Angry Woebots Camo Backpack by FLABSLAB

Le Fucker and I became friends on Facebook a while back, but his company FLABSLAB only really crept onto my radar when I saw a shot of this backpack he produced for Angry Woebots. I dig camo, and the use of Woes' signature panda in a camo pattern is so bad-ass, it just stuck in my mind. FLABSLAB! How could you forget that name? He's got some other awesome apparel products as well that he puts put under his own name. Really, a guy with a lot going on, fingers in a lot of different projects at once. Like my Singapore brother from another mother!

Anyway, my sample Woes pack arrived JUST in time for me to bring it to the New York Toy Fair. When you go to Toy Fair, it's sort of like hiking in the mountains for 4 days- you need comfortable footwear, smart clothing choices, food and water, and a large bag to store the stuff you collect as you walk around. When this bag arrived- and it was bigger than I expected at 17 inches tall and 11 inches wide- I was so psyched! I had my Toy Fair bag.

Steph and I are bag collectors. We have a variety of Jansport, Oakley, Dakine, Tumi, The North Face, Cabela's bags and several others. She doesn't carry a handbag, she likes technical backpacks. She's currently carrying a Deuter Speed Lite 10 in black. Bags are serious business to both of us, so this is a review that I don't take lightly, nor will I bullshit you in any way... this is easily my favorite backpack in a large collection of awesome bags. You can see above that the straps are wide and thick, very confortable to wear all day long.

The bag is nice and flexible and lightweight for such a big bag- here I am at the Zing booth shooting a suction-cup arrow with no problem while wearing the Woes pack.

The large main inner sleeve pocket is padded for your ipad or laptop, and the bag is voluminous enough to swallow up our full-sized DSLR camera with ease, plus more.

I wore this backpack for 4 full days at Toy Fair with absolutely no discomfort.

Thick metal zipper pulls are easy to grab, and there's even a top-side zippered pocket to keep your wallet or sunglasses safe and easily accessible (above).

It's even great for skateboarding!

Here I am at the Mimoco booth, talking shop. As you can see, I have stuffed the bag full at this point.
I don't even have to get into the cool factor of rocking such a recognizable and limited-edition bag- literally everyone I saw at Toy Fair (and that's a lot of very talented designers and artists) wanted one for themselves. That's saying something.

The price is $120 each and they are produced in extremely limited quantities, so chances are, you'll never see another human being wearing one (unless you're at a con where Woes is appearing...). The price about on par with Oakley's backpacks and way less than any Tumi bag, and way more special and rare.
