This set is generally circulated as 9/14/67 but that date can't be right. Jim Murrary was gone by 8/18/67, according to Faren Miller's Quicksilver Diaries, which are available on the Cipollina Yahoo group. Therefore, I picked a new date. I chose a September 1966 Fillmore date, 9/4/66, with the assumption that someone got the year wrong years after the event. Possible further confirmation of the year is that the recording is mono, whereas the great Feb. 1967 Quicksilver Fillmore West soundboards are stereo. If this were truly Sept. 1967, it should be stereo, I would think. Note that this version, which is from a cassette and not any previous digital source, includes Dino's Song to begin the second set. This song is missing from most circulating versions.

As for the recording quality, it's pretty good soundboard. However, the vocals are too loud compared to the guitars. The tape was pretty hissy so I rolled of the treble over 10kHz and used some light digital noise reduction in Adobe Audition. There are some artifacts, esp. on the cymbals, but I think the tradeoff was worth it.

The cassette also included four other songs. Two I was able to identify as having already in slightly better quality on "Marin County Cowboys," so they aren't included. The other two are included here as bonus tracks. All Night Worker is a similar recording to the "Live in San Jose" September 1966 version, but it's different. Pride of Man, judging from the applause at the beginning, may be a TV broadcast.

* Three Days After LP (matrix # 72016).

TMQ, TMOQ or TradeMark Of Quality was a bootleg record label that originated in the Los Angeles, California area during the late 1960s and early 1970s. TradeMark of Quality was established in 1970 by two bootleggers, "Dub" Taylor and Ken Douglas. Dub & Ken had released several albums under different names before settling on "TradeMark Of Quality" in 1970, the first being the (in)famous "Great White Wonder" by Bob Dylan. According to Ken, "Dub" recorded several of TMQ's releases himself, including The Rolling Stones' "Live'r Than You'll Ever Be" and Led Zeppelin's "Live On Blueberry Hill". TMOQ also employed the services of William Stout, whose unique artwork graced many of TMOQ's albums.

"Blueberry Hill" was originally issued before the inauguration of the TMQ label, so the very first pressings were on Blimp Records and were packaged in two single plain white sleeves with two insert covers printed in two colors. The album was subsequently pressed on the Trade Mark of Quality label and shipped to England. The album sold so many copies that many fans initially thought it was a legal record. The sleeve notes described it as "One hundred and six minutes and fifty three seconds of pure alive rock."

Live on Blueberry Hill derived its name from the fact that at this concert Led Zeppelin performed Fats Domino's "Blueberry Hill" as a final encore. The bootleg also features one of the few known live performances of "Out on the Tiles", a track from the group's third album. It also features "Bron-Yr-Aur", a song that wouldn't be released officially until five years later, on Physical Graffiti.

Added were the 2 missing 9/4/70 tracks from Three Days After. The show is now in original order of preformance and not in the original lp side friendly order.

Caveat Emptor: These are from 20+ year old lps and the inherent surface noise and anomalies associated with those recordings are present here, please remember the limits of the original medium when listening to these recordings.

This concert has been released many, many times over the years. This is its first CD release, from 1989, from the original Blimp/TMOQ tape (source 1). It sounds much better than the old LPs. This recording is mono and compares favorably to most others though I wouldn't say it's the best. The song order has been rearranged by the original producers.

The small sleek jet zooming Led Zeppelin into Toronto for a one-nighter was almost two hours late. When the jet finally touched down on Canadian soil, after a 55-minute flight from New York, there was less an hour to hustle through customs, climb into two chauffeured limousines and whisk through 15 miles of congested traffic before arriving at the backstage doors at the huge Maple Leaf Gardens.The private jet waited on the tarmac in Toronto while the group swept superbly through more than two hours of concert and then rushed back to the airport to fly on to Chicago. Less than five hours on Canadian soil for a fee of more than $50,000.

The latest Led Zeppelin tour – their fifth – includes only 20 gigs, but it will gross in excess of a million dollars. It will also substantially help to sell at least two million copies of the band’s new album which will be released within four weeks and is NOT called “Led Zeppelin 4”.

Before over 17,000 fans at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens, the group performed three of the cuts from their new LP and they were all well received. But it was the familiar material – the rock classics such as You Shook Me, Communication Breakdown, Dazed and Confused, and the masterpiece Whole Lotta Love – which drew the heftiest applause.Despite the oft-heralded downfall of hard rock, Led Zeppelin is living, loving proof that although James Taylor is doing fine, he has quite a way to go before reaching the superstar success level of Zep or their U.S. counterparts, Grand Funk.Led Zeppelin drew their reportedly largest rock crowd (over 20,000) in Vancouver’s history a week before; they sold out Madison Square Garden in New York and they smashed box office records across the continent, proving yet again that the current scene has no act to come within a country mile of their popularity.We eventually arrived at the Gardens half an hour late, and Page was clearly concerned about the group’s lack of punctuality. People were pouring into the dressing room and talking louder and louder as Page tried to tune his axe to John Paul Jones’ bass. The noise had reached a distinct drone when Page suddenly turned around and told everyone to please leave.The road managers hustled around and cleared the room of all but a couple of people, which didn’t include a photographer who came down to snap the group receiving numerous Canadian gold disc awards.When Page and Jones completed their tuning, Bonham changed clothes and swigged from a bottle of beer, Plant downed a couple of lemon teas and squeezed into an embroidered vest which barely covered the upper half of his mid riff.Then surrounded by Police and security men, they hastened out of the dressing room and climbed up on to the nine foot stage which was presumably designed to keep the faithful at bay.After two encores and 140 minutes of music, the group climbed off stage, and jumped into the limousines and sped back to their jet.

This source in general seems to be superior in comparision to Live In The Midnight Sun (TDOLZ) and Maple Leaf (Babyface) for the following aspects.

First it hasn't been eq'd to death usually the bootleg titles just amplify the hell out of the volume it brings out other unpleasant noises hidden on in the upper frequencies which is the case with TDOLZ release.

Second this seems to run at the correct speed and pitch whereas TDOLZ and Babyface seem to run a hair fast.

Third this contains the organ solo fragment before Thank You that is missing from all other releases as far as i know.

Another couple of old cassettes from Andy and Gary’s box in the loft, and yet another previously uncirculated recording.

Let me start off by saying, it’s not great quality. I’ll put up an MP3 or two to give you a taste, but please……..don’t download it and then tell me it sounds like shit or something. I repeat, the quality IS NOT GREAT. In fact, it’s a bit shit.

It was recorded on a BASF portable stereo recorder and time has not been kind to the recording. So it goes, I’m afraid.

What’s interesting about this recording though, is that he performs a lot of the show in German. It’s a standard 1980 set, but most of the songs, six in fact, from the German version of the third album (“Ein Deutsches Album”), he sings in German. “Start / I Don’t Remember” and “Biko” are performed in English.

I can remember the astonishment of the crowd when they realised he was singing in German, at the start of “Eindringling.” You can hear it too.

He spoke a lot in German too. Before Solsbury Hill, he tells them that tonight he is going to try and sing some songs in German, but not this one. The crowd cannot believe it.

For those who don’t speak the language, there is a lot of commotion after “Solsbury Hill” which Peter attempts to sort out in German. Basically, there were a lot of people at the front standing and dancing and clapping, while a lot of the crowd towards the back can be heard chanting at them to sit down (“Hinsetzen, hinsetzen”). A compromise is reached, whereby Gabriel persuades the rowdy lot at the front to sit down so the other lot can see, on condition that everyone can stand and dance later on. He actually asks the whole crowd to vote on it at one point. “Hinsetzen, oder aufstehen?”

This was a very unusual reaction with a German audience. In my experience, the crowd would often sit through a whole set of a band, stroking their chins and ‘appreciating’ the music, much to the amusement of British bands, who assumed the lack of reaction meant they didn’t like them. Not so. At the end of the set, they would go completely bananas, baffling the artists. This lot was split 50/50. You’ll also hear the traditional German demand for an encore, a chant of “Zugabe, zugabe,” at the end of the set.

Anyway, I’ve done my best with a bit of a ropy recording, but I’ve put it up for Gabriel nuts, who may not have realised he played these songs like this. I have not been able to find any other live recordings of him singing in a foreign tongue. I hope you like it.

This concert I taped with an old AIWA walkman and an extra stereo-microphone (I can't remember what exact equipment I used those days), but what I do remember that it was my first concert I taped with that equipment. (..and that there was another guy standing diredctly beneath me also taping. A long time friend of mine since then!!)(..and he's still banned up here!!)

The sound quality is very good. This is a real and typical open air-recording with many people around my microphone talking and shouting (specially on these loud numbers like "Birds").

I recorded it in the middle of the audience about 25 meters from the stage on the left side.

It was hot, the area was filled up with about 50.000 people. I partly taped the MSG and Jethro Tull in complete, both can be found up here. I also taped King Crimson, they played a great gig, the best gig that afternoon - and I am a Neil Young-supporter and have nothing to do with that band called "King Crimson". I lost the tape of "King Crimson" over the years - have no idea where it is. But -as it is not allowed to seed them here it is not as tragic (for me).

This was my very first ever Neil Young in concert-experience in a long row. ..and for me it started with the worst. I saw him so many times afterwards, but this here wasn't a real good start. As I listened to it after many years I thought: oh, great start, but after half that concert it's getting boring: so many bad songs, for example "Like an Inca" is way too

long - played here that evening with that band. I would love to hear it with the Horse, could be there for 60 minutes, but not that version you will listen to here. And the Hurricane is just a quick played simple Hurricane played for the about 50.000 people on the field. Anyway, as this is from my master. it's worth a download and put it in your collection.

"From the orginal silver cd" means that I am making FLACs from the the actual bootleg, not from a CD-R copy. It means that I have the actual real thing in my hot little fists. Of course, since we are talking digital here, an 199-gen digital copy SHOULD be the same as a 1-gen copy. That being said, if I screw up my ripping, then this first gen copy is junk.

All things being equal, is a first generation copy is "better" than a, say, 23rd generation copy? In THEORY, again since we're talking digital here, both copies SHOULD be the same. In real life, however, let's get real. The closest one gets to the actual source material (assuming the ripper uses standard practices when ripping) then a first generation copy is "better" in that it removes any doubt someone may have regarding the quality of the rip. For a 99th-gen copy, who knows what converting may have happened along the line or who has a bad hard drive sector or who has a incomplete copy or who had a bad CD-R or who had what happen to their copy on it's way to you, Dear Listener.

I've got a nice stack of CD-R's received in trade from people swore up and down that they knew what they were doing. Many of them have 2-seconds gaps between songs, some have pops all along the way, and some are barely adequate to use as coasters. All "first generation" mind you, and all are crap. Some 27 generation copies are probably fine it's true, but I'll wait for a "From the silver" rip, thank you. I know what I'm getting then.
