Cafe Sketches

I was hungry so I ate my food first and sketched other sketcher's food. After the food sketch, I still had anotehr 20 mins before the show and tell so I decided to do a quick sketch on the interior. It was red everywhere with the green chairs and light fixtures, a complimentary colour scheme!

Impromptu Johor Bahru Trip

Did 3 sketches on the new A4 watercolour papers. It’s a last minute impromptu trip to join three ladies to Johor Bahru. So I had no Malaysian notes but no problem - thanks to their loan and great company!

I put a map here to show the location of Flame and Fern near KSL City Mall. There are other red spots I want to visit in the future trips.

6 Letter Brunch Cafe at Crawford Lane

This morning I joined I Jio You Sketching! and Cafe Sketchers Singapore to sketch at 6 letter brunch at 464 Crawford Lane. I had the big breakfast and my usual long black at the bottom right of this sketch. So happy to sketch with younger friends as they made me feel very much younger!

I sketched on the last three pages of Baohong Accordion Sketchbook square format with the new long-kinfe-nib fountain pen and Winsor and Newton watercolours.

Food in Phuket

Sketches done will be posted separately. First record of Phuket will be a collage of food I eaten. I tried to frequent the local coffee shops besides the popular tourists' eateries, cafes and restaurants.

Don't play play, even the dark, gloomy local coffee shops I went all have Michelin awards from 2019 to 2025. Yummy and delicious food they served. I didn't go to the other crowded modern cafes and pubs where there were demo sessions.

Phuket offers abundant seafood from prawns, squids, crabs and various fishes to unique local seven-colored lobster which I sketched but didn't try. Next trip!

Places I went in that order by day:
Wonderlounge, Merlin Kitchen, Cafe Amazon, One Chun Restaurant, Aroon Restaurant (first sketch here), Roti Thaew Nam, Chuan Chim, The Tent Phuket, Little Phuket, Limelight and Tu Kab Khao. I also bought instant noodles at the airport, HA!

Kafei Dian

Day 5 - 23 July, while waiting for the cocktail dinner at Pik Wah Bar & Cafe at Jalan Petaling, we went to chill at Kafei Dian at Jalan Panggong

At around 5:15pm, the place was empty so I continued a sketch in the Etchr Accordion Sketchbook.

The interior deco of this corner was based on that of a Chinese wedding room concept with red banners in the ceiling and red flower-balls here and there. There was a huge red lantern on the right and a huge vintage luggage was found at the opposite pastel turquoise wall at the entrance to this room.

Sketching enables one to discover the details in the surroundings.

Very Cool Cafe in Penang

I did a quick search before going to Penang and found a post on this very cool cafe called "NORM" near Lot 29, the event venue for Asia Link Sketchwalk 2024.

However, I was walking up and now the street near Lot 29 in the morning, I could not find the cafe. Alas, the greyish skeletal signage was on top of the building and the cafe was hidden behind the big pivoted door next to a small open carpark just next to Lot 29! The food was of top quality and the coffee was great. The interior ambience was so comfortable and the best part was the cozy aircondition environment compared to the scotching high temperature of around 35 degC outdoor. Best experience to avoid the huge crowd at the Art Market at 4th level of Prestige Hotel opposite the cafe while waiting for registration to open at Lot 29 at 1pm.

This is also the last page in my first Etchr Accordion Sketchbook on Penang since I arrived on 29 July. I will start the second Sketchbook tomorrow when the ALSW event unfolds.

Cafe Sketching at Bites and Brew

We asked for stickers, they brought a very long one for us, having fun cutting it up at home and rearranged here with my sketch. It was such a fun evening catching up with friends, more chatting and eating than sketching.

Cafe Sketching

I decided to join the Cafe Sketchers last Thursday evening at Fengxiang Bak Kut Teh, Vivocity.

Ah Hong, the very shy Malaysian Chef and Jenny, the friendly Vietnamese counter staff signed my sketch and took a lot of photos with us all. Jenny said she would remember me and would give me discount when I return for more food. Their dishes especially the Bak Kut Teh and Fried Porridge were so yummy! Ah Hong is a great chef!

I also started the new Etchr Accordion Sketchbook and did this sketch over four pages.

Cafe Sketching

Last Friday, I joined Urban Sketchers Incheon for a trip up to level 51 of CapitaSpring. It was too hot to sketch outdoor even up on level 51. A few of us decided to hide inside the cozy restaurant called Sol and Luna at level 17 for high tea and we had so much fun sketching together.

Chilling at Cafe

Just outside my house, this guy at the counter of Stamping Ground Coffee had an unique hair style. The cafe is now replaced by Bloom Coffee and these young enterprenuers move very fast.
