August Sketchwalk at Zion Road

Today, I just picked up my old square watercolour paper randomly and used it to complete an ink and watercolours work at the backlane of Zion Road. It was a very very hot day and I had to move a few times to complete the work under the shade. Occasionaly I would stand in the sun and work on the details. I was quite familiar with this area as I was a regular at the Zion Riverside Food Centre. Many stalls were closed today on a Saturday may be because it would be closed for spring cleaning in the next three days. "Kang Wantan Mee", my favourite stall was opened so I was glad to have my usual wantan mee and a hot kopi o guo.

An Huat Trading, the corner shop at the junction of Zion Road and Zion Close was a very interesting shop which was selling colourful majolica tiles, coloured glassblocks and curios for interior renovation work. They also placed big garden sculptures and big plants along the corridors so it was so cluttered that even the bright red fire hydrant was hidden by the cardboards placed around it. I exercised my artistic licence to remove the clutters so I could apply a tiny drop of bright red in the work.

The backlane is interesting as this row of houses with spiral escape staircases at the back may not survive long when the surroundings are replaced with luxurious condominiums.

August Sketchwalk at Zion Road Riverside

Hi Sketchers!

This weekend we're heading to Zion Road! 

Our main landmark is Zion Riverside Food Centre — right by the canal, so you can grab a bite and enjoy the view, or find a spot along the canal for a different angle.

Another landmark to keep an eye out for "Orh Kio Tau" (Black Bridge Head). A pipeline arch dating back to 1929, rich with history. Read more about it here: https://remembersingapore.org/.../havelock-road-pipeline.../

4. Some sketch leaders will go around to catch you in action for posts on Facebook and Instagram, so look out for them!

Sri Thendayuthapani Temple at Tank Road

It was a very hot day. I moved 5 to 6 times to hide in the shade to complete this panoramic sketch on 2 sheets of A4 size watercolour papers. Plus I forgot to refill the ink in my fountain pens, so I had to use gel pen this time.

Happy 61st National Day 2026

Happy 61st National Day Singapore!

I was stuck at my dinner order at National University of Singapore Society aka NUSS, The Graduate Club. Diners were watching the National Day Parade on the super big screen.

Every Sunday, I would go to NUSS to take a shower after a long day at Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle. Last Sunday, I already prepared to leave the Club and my family called to ask me to order dinner coz it was full at restaurants and coffee shops so it was impossible for them to get dinner delivered home.

Since I did not join the NDP sketchwalk this year due to personal commitment, I did a long sketch on location while waiting for my take-away. I added the big flag and colours at home. I also added The Kallang and fireworks for the big screen as NDP returned to National Stadium after ten years while NS Square was underconstruction at the Marina Bay. Would 62nd NDP return to Marina Bay next year is everybody's guess.

Special Sketchwalk to Celebrate SG61

Hi Sketchers!
Although this year’s parade will be held at the Stadium, after doing a quick poll we found that sketchers still prefer to sketch around here where the National day mood is. Feel free to walk around to sketch the waterfront promenade, Marina Bay Sands, Helix bridge, Singapore skyline etc this National Day weekend!

Cafe Sketches

I was hungry so I ate my food first and sketched other sketcher's food. After the food sketch, I still had anotehr 20 mins before the show and tell so I decided to do a quick sketch on the interior. It was red everywhere with the green chairs and light fixtures, a complimentary colour scheme!
