Now

An incomplete and superficial summary of what I am doing:

🧘 Slowing down

Every evening, while getting into bed, I feel that Terrestrials are doomed, devoured by Surveillance Capitalism, Fascism, greed, and egoism. In this global environment, it is so hard for me to have deep introspective reflections, and decide what I truly want to focus my inevitably limited energies on. How can I say no to something, if I believe it could contribute at least a tiny bit to saving us from the abyss we are sliding towards?

So here I am, at a point where I have so many inputs, ideas, and ongoing projects that I feel compelled to do all I can to pursue them, yet, I want and I need to slow down, to do less, and to do it better more mindfully.

I am doing by best to frame all my current endeavours, shared in this page, within this perspective.

👾 Studying at XPUB

I started an insanely awesome interdisciplinary master degree: I will be studying at XPUB until July 2027.

This course is exactly what I have been looking for. I am finding it super enriching, brilliantly critical, and very inspiring.

There are many incredible and intertwined stories about how I ended up here, how it’s going, and about the projects I am working on in the context of the course. I am narrating all of them in my XPUB Tales, and I will do my best to keep track of my work in my personal page of the XPUB wiki.

🌆 Settling in Rotterdam

Because of XPUB, I moved to Rotterdam. I don’t love this city as much as I loved other cities I have lived in—yet. Nevertheless, I am so glad and so excited I am in a place that is full of super interesting cultural activities and activist collectives—see below.

Amidst all this ferment, once again, it’s very hard to choose what not to do, but I am doing my best to be involved in endeavours I find compelling, stimulating, and helpful.

Here I am keeping some notes with various information and thoughts about the life in Rotterdam.

🧐 Guest Residency at Foundation B.a.d

In the South of Rotterdam there is a very special neighbourhood, called Charlois. It has a particular history, and a very vibrant art scene. It is like this also thanks to a group of art students who squatted an abandoned school in 1987, turning the classrooms in their studios and homes.

This special place is now Foundation B.a.d, and I am so glad I have been selected for a guest residency there.

As the main project for my residency, I want to host a serie of screenings about homelessness, precariety, and basically how Capitalism and gentrification are devastating lives and increasing inequality. I would love to explore this topic through fiction and non-fiction films, also with my fellow resident Ariela Bergman. We are very open for inputs, considerations, and ideas! More information here.

✊ Fighting for housing rights 🏘️

There is an insane housing crisis in the Netherlands. I have faced its hardships myself, as it is taking me more than six months to find a home.

I believe we can overcome this only by a collective and political committment to make things better for everyone, not just for ourselves. This is why am proud to be part of BuurToren, a project to provide housing to all those in need, and Bond Precaire Woonvormen (BPW) a union for people living in precarious situations.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Collectivizing Scambi Festival’s bureaucratic backbone

Scambi Festival 2025 had a new, cozy, and chill format, that made us understand that we have to be easy on ourselves if we really want to enjoy what we do and make it a meaningful experience for the participants. This starts from collectivizing our efforts and reaying on mindful teamwork, especially for bureaucratic chores.

I am still the president of the association that runs the festival, but for the same reasons I wrote about so far, I want to focus on doing less, and more locally. Therefore, I am making an effort to pass to the rest of the board and to the staff all that I learned in the five years since I co-founded the association.

🔌 Setting up my homelab

Even if I have no permanent home so far, I brought all my technical equipment to Rotterdam, including Linuxplosion, and Aby. During the summer, I also assembled a low-power server that I plan to use as my main homelab, hosting all my personal data, so that it does not stay in a random VPS somewhere.

❤️‍🔥 Working with the DWeb Community

I have been hired as the DWeb Social Media and Community Manager! Until July, I will have the honour, the privilege, and the responsibility to manage the DWeb Community’s social network profiles, and to facilitate the communication with/among the DWeb Nodes and volunteers based literally all over the world!

📡 Weaving connections at Village One

Last October, I reached out to incredible folks at Village One, sharing my admiration for their work and the crucial cooperative values they pursue.

After a chat and exchanging a few emails, we realised we reeeaaally wanted to work together, so I was recently nominated Village One’s Connections Weaver (it really is my job title, I can’t believe it). We will be experimenting a bit, and we will see where this collaboration leads us to.

🖥️ Self-hosted photo management

Rarely I am in my hometown long enough to address more complex and and time consuming technical chores using Linuxplosion.

I plan to stay home for a while, so I’ll be completely rearranging and restructuring my audiovisual archive on Aby, at last. It is going to be an infinite, stressful, and excruciating work, but I absolutely must get it done, so I can forget about it.

😈 I quit my master

Just this morning, I sent an email resigning from my master program.

I added the naughty face before the heading because dropping out of any kind of institutional education is often potrayed as a negative and silly decision. I believe it is not true, and I am glad I made this tormented choice, although it has been very hard to do.

I have many considerations about this, and I have learned many lessons by spending the past semester in Tallinn. I am open to chatting about it all, but to be honest I do not feel like writing about it here, because it has been exshausting, and now I just want to move on.

Nevertheless, this means that I am currently unemployed and I am weighing various options for my future. There is one thing in particular I am hoping to come true, but let’s not jinx it.

🌆 Moving back to Berlin

In the buffer period between dropping out of my master and starting something new, I am staying at my parents’, in Riva Ligure, my hometown. It is sweet, cosy, and heartwarming to sleep in my beloved Xplosion Attic, but I know myself well enough to know that soon I will need to be (and to live) somewhere that feels like home while being more stimulating and enriching than Riva Ligure or Sanremo.

Berlin is that place, and I plan to move back there between the end of February and March 2025. I am looking for a WG! Do get in touch if you have any contacts or suggestions to share!

🧶 Launching Knitting Our Internet 🎉

In the past few months, I have spent a lot of time enriching and refining Knitting Our Internet, my workshop about decentralization and the history of the Internet.

I soft-launched its website between October and November 2024, but now it is almost ready to be properly announced and shared 👀. I am ironing out the last few details, and I plan to launch it officially before, during, or just after FOSDEM and OFFDEM.

🤔 The future of Scambi Festival

In 2020, I co-founded Scambi, the Festival of Paneurethic workshops. Last summer I became its president again, and I am taking care of the bureaucracy for the time being.

At the same time, even if the project is now on hiatus, I have been reflecting a lot about potential ways to bring it forward, especially by following the many sharp changes in the lives and priorities of the members of the association.

How to make a local non-profit stay active and relevant if all its members are in different and remote places? How to find a good balance between long term sustainability and doing cool ativities when the team is here? These are two of the many questions we are thinking about. I have a couple of ideas in mind, but we will see.

💭 AISS Erasmus Mundus Joint Master

I just moved to Tallinn, Estonia, where I am starting an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Societies.

I have mixed feelings about the course, but the people are nice, the professors are very open and welcoming, so I am psyched to begin this new special experience!

🪡 Knitting Our Internet 🧶

I am so glad my workshop on the Fediverse got overwhelmingly positive feedback in the past year!

So, I put together an incredible international team of marvelous and skilled people to structure it more, enrich the related material, develop a consistent and cool look for it, and to publish a website about it.

The enhanced workshop will be titled 🪡 Knitting Our Internet 🧶. We believe we’ll have something ready around the end of Augustsometime in the near future.

🤔 The future of Scambi Festival

In 2020, I founded Scambi. In the past few months, the festival and the team had a hard time, and I am jumping back in to help out and to think about our next steps, together. I got back to being its president, and I am taking care of the bureaucracy for the time being.

✍🏼 Writing

I told myself that I would commit to carve out some time to focus on comprehensively revising my bachelor’s thesis to make into a novel titled as the workshop.

I am not doing it as much as I wanted, but I am keeping the mindset.

🏖️ Resting

I just moved away from Berlin, and I am spending the summer in Riva Ligure, my hometown.

I am terrible at dedicating long periods of time to actual and complete rest, but I am making an effort to do so, in light of the important changes on the horizon:

💭 Preparing for what’s next

On August 23rd I will be moving to Tallinn, where I will start the Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Societies Erasmus Mundus Joint Master.

It is a big step for me, both because it is a major event, and because I am not sure I am ready to get back to studying. It’s for this reason that I’m trying to prepare as well as I can, and get rid of as many chores as possible before I leave.

In 2020, I founded Scambi, and I was its president up to when I moved to Berlin, in September 2023.

In the past few months, the festival and the team had a hard time, and I am jumping back in to help out and to think about our next steps, together.

I am taking advantage of the fact I am in the area to participate to many meetings with the association’s members, with the newly elected city council members of Sanremo, and with potential supporters to define the road ahead of us.

📡 Experimenting with Raspberry Pi

I have been planning for a very long time to put a stable and cool storage system into place. Finally, I am spending enough time at home to go at my grandparents’ and set up a home server running Photoprism, powered by a Raspberry Pi 5. It is much trickier than I expected.

I am taking notes about this endeavor on the DYI Home Server page.

🤯 Who am I kidding?

Who am I kidding? I will not be resting much this summer… 😑

Embracing the Berlin life

After moving to Berlin for my internship at FSFE, quite a lot of unprecedented things crashed down on me. Above them all, living in a really big city, whose language I don’t speak, a place with a very different soul, temperature, and temperament with respect to the places I have lived before.

Settling in and discovering this fascinating conundrum of life is taking up pretty much all of the time I am not working.

Mostly threading my way into whimsical raves, meeting people, strolling around, getting lost, being found, then lost again into the thundering darkness of this unique city.

Scambi

I conceived and co-founded Scambi, The Festival of Paneurethic Labs. I organize it with a staff of under-25 volunteers. The festival takes place during the last week of August in La Pigna, Sanremo, Italy.
The festival was born from our urge to fight the intolerance towards anything or anyone different. While our planet is getting hotter and drier every day, relationships of the people living on it are getting colder and more feeble.
Our purpose is to overcome this tendency by bringing together the most different guests and public.

Quitting Social Media

I made a life-changing choice: I’ll delete all of my Social Media accounts by the end of 2020. There are a lot of reasons why I got to this point, and I discuss about this topic all the time with my friends. At the moment my aim is to put together resources, articles, videos, documentaries and documents in this website. Randomly stuffed, everything is here, in the meanwhile.

Planning a Festival

We have no website, no detailed schedule, no definite and clear structure. We are a group of curious, different and crazy guys from all over Italy and we have an idea, a place, a time: a festival of meetings (which is way better than is sounds), in Sanremo, in August 2021. It’s already been one year since we’re working on this and we founded an association. I’m its president (🤯).

Usually, I’d suggest to subscribe to a newsletter, or I’d point to a website, but as of right now we don’t have anything like this. We’re working on it. Keep in touch.
