Everything you need to know about Coda.
Everything is stored locally on your Mac in the .coda folder — workspace configs, project settings, tasks, and logs never leave your device. Your data is plain files on disk, which means other tools and agents can read and write to them too. We collect minimal, anonymous usage data (feature usage, crash reports) to improve the app. No tracking cookies, no third-party data sharing. We have no interest in your data.
Claude Code, Gemini, Codex, and any terminal-based agent. They run as terminal processes inside your workspace, and sessions are automatically restored when you relaunch Coda.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets your AI agent directly control your dev environment — reading logs, taking screenshots, restarting services, and more. Instead of copy-pasting errors into chat, your agent sees everything itself and acts on it.
If your dev server starts with a shell command, it works in Coda. Node, Python, Go, Rust, Docker, and anything else that runs from a terminal. Projects that require a separate IDE to compile and run (like native iOS or Android apps) still need that IDE for the build step.
Voice input is processed either locally through a Whisper model on your Mac, or through OpenAI’s Whisper API using your own API key. Audio recordings are stored on your device and cleaned up after completion. Transcription history is kept based on your voice settings. Nothing is ever sent to us.
Absolutely. You can send feature requests through the contact form on our website or directly from inside the app. We read every message and do our best to implement viable suggestions. You’re also welcome to come hang out on Discord and be part of the development process.
Not yet. Coda started as a way to run and manage dev servers, and development has worked outward from there — adding features as they become relevant. A basic file browser and code editor are high on the roadmap.
Terminal tabs work, but they’re missing a lot of the practicalities. With Coda, a single process can appear in multiple views — your backend is right there no matter which frontend you’re working on. Sessions restore automatically when you reopen Coda with no additional setup. Quick commands let you run builds, migrations, and deployments without remembering the exact commands. Collapse any panel you don’t need to look at right now to free up screen space. And having an embedded browser side by side with your AI agents, combined with Zen Mode for a minimal interface, makes for an environment that’s genuinely built for building.
