West African perhaps Ashanti Spear
54 1/2 inches over all. 9 1/2 inch blade, African Spear that shows great age, I'd say late 1800's- early 1900's. I believe this may be West African, possibly Ashanti in origins. Pure thrusting blade, hand forged, appears to have old lacquer finish partially remaining. Four deeply sculpted reddish leather sections inter spaced with hide. The leather sections have decorative finely worked central bands. Over all, very good condition, some minor losses and shrinkage to the leather and hide. Base tip has a formed tin or iron point mostly covered in leather. Buyer adds $25.00 Priority Shipping.

Vintage African Maasai Masai Hand Forged Spear 38 inches
Up for sale is this African Masai hand forged spear. This spear is stunning! It measures 38.5" long and is hand-carved in the middle of the wood. It appears to be a leaf. Or type of feather carving. The broad spear tip is over 10" in length, while the other metal tip is 7" The spear is still pretty sharp and does not appear to have been resharpened. Looking at the spear closely, there is no question that this was hand forged! Thanks for looking! RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Feog4d72f%2Bd0f%3E-13eb99c6a14-0x105-

Antique Madagascar Spear Set, Old Museum Collection, ca. 1900
This set was recently deaccessioned from a museum where they have sat for the past 100 years in storage. They originally had been sent home by Scandinavian missionaries. But it is an original piece and was part of the collection. With some careful trimming the shaft could be fit to the sockets of these two excellent blades. Condition on the steel pieces is exceptionally clean. The assembled set will measure around 50 inches long. Shipping weight 3 pounds. Your satisfaction is 100% guaranteed. We are straight shooters. AFRICAN IKLWA or IXWA ( Shaka Stabbing Spear )
you are bidding on a very rare african stabbing spear.I bought this ae an old shop more than 50 years ago.I do not claim to be an expert in African items. But from what I have read the average blade is 18 or 19 inches long and even they are hard to find. This blade measures 21 3/8 inches. I think that this spear was probably used by a chief. The total length is 27 1/4 inches. This seems short. I do not know if it was ever shortened. Some articles refer to a blade this long as a show piece. I have not cleaned it in 50 years and there is a small nick out of the blade. You buy it as is. Thanks. I see similar iltems listed from $750 up It may be Zulu or Masai

REDUCED - RARE old Zulu "Udibi" (Youth) spear - Zulu War
First time offered from my private collection of Zulu War artifacts is this extrememly rare example of youth. Or"udibi" spear. Renowned Zulu historian and guide, Ron Lock, writes in his tome"Zulu Victory- The Epic of Isandlwana and the Cover-Up" of the"Udibi's" spear as follows: While the Zulu army was on the march, for every three or four warriors there would be one"Udibi" boy accompanying a brother or father. The boy would be loaded down with as much paraphernalia as the haughty warriors could expect him to stagger along with: cooking pot, sleeping mat, dismantled shield, and at times perhaps, the boy would have been given the honor of hefting the warriors' weapons. On top of all this, an Udibi might have well carried a small spear of his own- those who did so would soon have the unexpected ... moreopportunity to wash their smaller blades in the blood of red soldiers or, at least, in the blood of their kin in the NNC(Natal Native Contingent) This extrememly rare artifact dates back to that time and was hand forged and made in the old style of Zulu spears. Hand hammered blade. Hide socket and even a small ornamental wire band halfway down the haft. The patina on all elements would denote an all original piece, with no re-hafting or blading. This item has a traditional blade measuring 7 inches long, with the haft measuring 23 inches long. There are simply no other of these left, and I have never seen one either throughout my travels in Zululand or the museums of NAtal or the UK. Undoubtedly brought back from the war, as there was no call for an Udibi to exist after the second invasion of Zululand in the later months of 1879, as the army was disbanded and the end of the old Zulu order came to pass. A unique opportunity to add an extremely unique and rare artifact to your collection.

Cracks and chip in blade, holes, Additional Information: Large forged blades such as this in the shape of a spearpoint were ... morewell used into the middle of the 20th century as currency and during marriage ceremonies. They are known under several names: dihunga(for small examples) doa(for larger examples) Other names are: Linganda and Ngbele. During marriage ceremonies up to 60 doa might be exchanged for the bride. These were specially shaped to look like spearpoints but were too thin and long to serve as such. These unique currency forms were well worked and were often embellished with a number of parallel lines close to the edges. The surface of this currency shows some age. This may be an early or mid 20th century example. It comes from the Topoke people who live in the Equatorial region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. For more information and similar examples see: Roberto Ballarini. African Tribal shield and metal spear - handmade hide skin Zulu Masai
Large African tribal animal hide painted shield and handmade long spear plus decorative leather and feather item. The shield is animal hide painted in a tribal design and stretched over a wooden frame. It measures approximately 45" by 22" Long spear is two parts metal with one part wood to join them. I'm no expert but it appears to be handmade hand forged. Overall measures 80 inches long. Shown in two pieces the top part measures approximately 28 inches with a 2 inch wide flat point. The bottom metal part measures approximately 42 inches and tapers down to a point and the wooden part is pretty well stuck into one of the metal pieces but when put together completely the wood that is exposed measures approximately 10 inches. The leather straping and feathers piece measures approximately 12 inches long overall. I believe they are ... moreemu feathers maybe ostrich. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be attached to the shield for the spear or if it belongs to something else altogether. I do not know much more about these items but feel free to ask questions and I will do my best to answer.
