Combat Species
"Combat Species" (戦闘種族 Sentou Shuzoku) Digimon are a set of Digimon that are identified as superior in fighting ability and can have aggressive personalities. The potential to become a "Combat Species" is something that all Digimon naturally possess.[1]
V-mon and DORUmon are both noted to be Combat Species[2][3], meaning Ancient Species Digimon and Prototype Digimon can be Combat Species. Armor Evolution is noted as a reason for V-mon's status as a Combat Species, as well. In cases like Garurumon (X-Antibody), a Digimon can change into a Combat Species with the X-Antibody, while a Digimon like Greymon that is already a Combat Species maintains that classification as Greymon (X-Antibody).[4] Gaioumon and the Greymon-species are also noted as highly capable Combat Species.[5]
Overview[edit]
One of the first Digimon to be noted as a Combat Species, V-mon is an excellent Combat Species, as it possesses hidden power, and demonstrates tremendous abilities by Armor evolving.[2] From Terriermon's calm behavior, it doesn't seem like a Combat Species Digimon, but in the case of battle, it shows that it is a Combat Species that hides great power.[6][7] In contrast, Lopmon has the personality of a lonely crybaby. However, Lopmon is a Combat Species Digimon just like its twin, Terriermon.[8][9] Guilmon is noted to have very high potential as a Combat Species Digimon and hides the ferocious personality of a carnivorous beast.[1] After exposure to the X-Antibody, Guilmon (X-Antibody) possesses the true abilities of the Combat Species.[10]. The personality of natural Combat Species Digimon manifests particularly strongly within DORUmon, so its combat instinct is high; it often barks and bites at everything as a result, though it apparently feels a sense of attachment to something after biting it[3]. Garurumon (X-Antibody)'s combat instinct has become even more intense, driving it to fight to the bitter end, so there are very few Digimon that are willing to fight it. As it boasts the best qualities of a Combat Species Digimon, it is said to be a Digimon that requires its Tamer to have suitable qualifications.[11]
As a Combat Species, Greymon, the most outstanding among Dinosaur Digimon, has become even more aggressive due to the effect on Greymon's Digicore from the X-Antibody. Although it has a relatively small build among Dinosaur-types, many of whom are large Digimon, Greymon (X-Antibody) fully exhibits ferocity typical of a carnivorous dinosaur, winning in battles and increasing its own strength.[4] Gaioumon is a Dragon Man Digimon that increases its own strength as it wins battles, and is a subspecies of the Greymon-species, which are highly capable as Combat Species Digimon. Discovered within a neglected Oriental computer, there are many parts of its strength which are unmeasured, but it has been confirmed that it possesses an unbelievable combat record from its countless battles.[5]
Of the Digimon not clearly identified as a Combat Species, Growmon is prominently featured on The Pride of Combat Species.
