- In the midst of World War I, the German U-boat U-79 was en route to launch an ambush on the British Navy when it was enclosed and frozen in ice. Due to the cold temperatures, the submarine's crew was kept in suspended animation aboard it for over sixty years. (Hanna-Barbera's Godzilla episode 16, "Ghost Ship")
