Throwback Thursday: November 2015

Throwback Thursday

#ThrowbackThursday

Revisiting what I posted exactly 10 years ago
(my blog was born on September 29, 2010)
following the idea I found at The Chocolate Lady’s Book Review Blog

Today, I’m revisiting November 2015.

I published 14 times, and 6 of these posts were book reviews.

Of these, here are my two favorite books:

La septième fonction du langage The Lake House

1. MY VERDICT:
If you enjoy first rate literature, linguistics, and detective fiction, you’ll find the perfect combination here. A must-read for a subtle and hilarious look at the relationship between fiction and reality.
The book is available in English: The Seventh Function of Language

2. MY VERDICT:
The Lake House highlights Kate Morton’s usual style, at the intersection between historical fiction and mystery, in all its greatness. The words make you want to linger on each and the plot makes you turn the pages.

📚

And here is the book that got most views on my blog that month:

Lady Agnes Mystery 1

MY VERDICT:
Suspenseful saga set in France in the 14th century, at the time of the dreadful Inquisition
. Rich in historical details and ripe with secrets powerful enough to kill or to die for.

Six degrees of separation:
Australian authors

– posted the first Saturday of every month)

Today, we are supposed to start from Ghost Cities, by Siang Lu, which won the
2025 Miles Franklin Literary Award, “an annual literary prize awarded to ‘a novel which is of the highest literary merit and presents Australian life in any of its phases'”.
I haven’t read it.
So I decided to feature Australian authors I have read.

1. The Tree of Man, by Patrick White
I was very impressed, I really need to read more by him.

2. Remembering Babylon, by David Malouf
Powerful themes in this one as well.

3. A Brush With Birds: Paintings and Stories from the Wild, by Richard Weatherly
Absolutely gorgeous book, by an Australian artist.
It made me discover many Australian birds, with so many amazing colors. The author is a specialist on fairy-wrens.

4. Crimson Lake, by Candice Fox
MY VERDICT:
The crocs may not be the most dangerous creatures in this rough Australian environment. An unexpected duo of investigators experience it first-hand. Haunting.
This is the first book of a trilogy: the two other books are Redemption Point, and Gone by Midnight.

5. The Forgotten Garden, by Kate Morton
I so so fell in love with this book!! So after that, I devoured all her books.
And so, I will finish with the latest by Morton:

6. Homecoming, by Kate Morton
I can’t wait for next one!

I discovered this meme thanks to Marianne @ Let’s read.
“The idea is to spell the month using the first letter of book titles”,
and there’s an accompanying theme.
