Throwback Thursday: May 2016

Throwback Thursday

#ThrowbackThursday

Revisiting what I posted exactly 10 years ago
(my blog was born on September 29, 2010)
following the idea I found at The Chocolate Lady’s Book Review Blog
(click on this link or the logo to post the link to your own post).

Today, I’m revisiting May 2016.
This was a very special month, with several fabulous books reviewed.
It’s also when I reported on my participation in Book Expo America/Book Con (BEA16), which took place in Chicago that year, exceptionally. What a fabulous experience it was!

I published 21 times that month, and 9 of these posts were book reviews.

Of these posts, here is the most popular:

The Sacred Combe

MY VERDICT:
Remarkable hymn to the healing powers of books, readers, writers, and nature. A delight to enjoy word by word.

📚

I really enjoyed The Sacred Comb at the time, but my favorite that month was clearly the first book by Fred Vargas I read.
Since then, I have read/listened to all her books – and am hoping to be able to listen to her very latest soon!

My favorite was this one:

Pars vite The book has been translated in English as: Have Mercy on Us All (Simon & Schuster)

MY VERDICT:
If you like polished, well-written crime novels rooted in historical elements, this one is for you. A town crier in the medieval style suddenly finds himself in the middle of a murder plot.

The Classics Spin #44

Time for a new spin!
Here are the directions from The Classics Club:

At your blog, before Sunday May 17, create a post to list your choice of any twenty books that remain “to be read” on your Classics Club list.
On Sunday May 17, we’ll post a number from 1 through 20. The challenge is to read whatever book falls under that number on your Spin List by July 5, 2025.

Here are 20 titles I have selected from my 5th list of 100 classics.
I want to tackle titles that have been on older lists, so I am repeating titles 1-10.
