Eiffel Tower from the Seine

Walking along the Pont de Bir Hakeim (bridge) in Paris
on the blog today to give you an idea of the neighborhood.
More night photos!

At not quite the middle of the bridge stands this statue
which I only realized recently was a likeness of Joan of Arc.
I have a whole new respect!

The bridge itself runs across the Seine
from the 15th arrondissement to the 16th,
from the Bir Hakeim metro stop to Passy on the 6 line
which runs over the top of the bridge.

The statue sits on a small pullout from the bridge
where people often gather to stare at the Eiffel Tower
and often sip something of their choice
(as evidenced by the empty bottles we frequently find left behind).

We have on occasion brought guests here
with a bottle of bubbly and glasses
to watch the tower sparkle
as we sparkle.
(We take our bottle with us!)

From here you can walk along the Seine and the boats
all with a view of the tower.

I love these boats which are often rented
but I especially love them in the summertime
when people sit out on the decks
in the warm evenings
 sipping wine and eating
while they talk softly and enjoy the view.

The Pont d'Iena (next bridge over) connects the Eiffel Tower to the Trocadero.
In the early 1800's, Napoleon wanted a bridge to overlook his Ecole Militaire
(Military School and his offices) located on the other end of the Champ de Mars.
So from 1808-1814, he had this bridge built and named after
one of his battle victories: The battle of Jena
(apparently the American spelling).

The stairs from the bridge to the river
are called the Renault Stairs
where James Bond (Roger Moore)
drove a Renault 11 down the stairs in pursuit of an assassin
in the film A View to a Kill.

Christmas in full form
on the river below the tower.

I loved the colors here against the fog.

And the tower doing its sparkly thing.

Hope you've enjoyed this little walk
along a small part of the Seine in Paris.
Back next time with more of Paris!

Eiffel Tower pond

Another tiny slice of Paris today
cause as always, I'm missing it.
But also because, like last time,
I'm giving you a small glimpse into my novel-in-progress.

My last post showed the Champs de Mars cave
where my protagonists (also love interests) spent some time.
And this is the view back across the duck pond
to the base of the Eiffel Tower
where they dance together.

And tomorrow we'll get a little glimpse of Florence, Italy
where they end up chasing suspense.
And next week Venice.
Til then,
A bientot.

Bon Anniversaire Eiffel Tower

Happy 126th Anniversary of the opening of
the Eiffel Tower today!

Took these photos with my cell phone during our last visit.
So while not the best camera,
I love the colors.

This is what it looked like when we emerged from
the Musee du Quai Branly
after spending the afternoon there.

I had no idea about all the lights and colors
until we came out to this magic.

And speaking of magic,
March is my birthday month
and a wonderful month it's been.

I got to spend a week at my writing retreat on the coast
with special favorite writing gals.

And last week, we spent a long weekend
in Napa/Sonoma with friends
for someone special's 80th birthday party.

And as always happens in my birthday month,
my favorite season, Spring, arrived in full beauty and...magic.

Happy Spring to you...
and I promise more Paris photos soon.

From the Trocadero~ Missing Paris Day

It's been hot in Paris lately, I'm told.
I'm miserable in heat without air conditioning
so I know how I would be
but something in me would still like to be there,
walking the sultry streets~
enjoying the revelers in cafe chairs~
the picnickers on the lawn of the Champ de Mars~
the trucked-in sand of the Paris Plage.

The summer has flown by here,
weeks escaping like wind on the moors.
I've barely had time to catch my breath.
I had the weekend to myself which I thought would do it
but I still feel like I just scratched the surface of my To-Do List!

Hope you all have enjoyed your summer
and are getting ready for that
To-Do List that is fall.
I can feel it already in the air.

Enjoy the last precious days.

Who doesn't love Paris!?!

What makes Paris so irresistible?
It's a love affair!
It starts with one of the most famous, and romantic, of all symbols:
The Eiffel Tower.

Who hasn't heard the stories of lifetimes together
starting at the top (or even bottom) of the Eiffel Tower.
I've heard personally of several people who either proposed
or were proposed to atop the tower or on a boat on the Seine while cruising past.
for one such romantic love story.

Then the love affair moves to the Seine,
a river flowing with history, fame and glory.

One only needs to say the word 'Seine' and the world knows where you are.

And of course there are the cafes!
The perfect place no matter the weather
be it a chilled kir in the summer
or the ever popular chocolate chaud in  winter.

And for me,
the affair always includes the open-air markets...

with their vibrant colors,

and tempting flavors,

seasonal freshness,

and delicate seafood.

I love the glitz and fun of the holidays...

...the hidden courtyards,

the doors,

and windows,

And the metro,
night or day...

I adore the bread

and the cheese

of course the wine

and don't get me started on the luscious, decadent sweets...

and hot perfect frites,

...the art,

and architecture,

and the fabulous photo shots,

...don't forget the myriad choices and flavors of
'real' champagne...

...and the ancient finds on every walk.

But above all else,
the biggest draw for me in Paris
is my very own heart...
My family!

My sister and her children live in Paris
and it's because of them that Paris shines even brighter for me.

There's no one in the world like your sister
and mine has given me Paris.
Not sure I'll ever be able
to return such a favor.
