Started yesterday and could read only the first chapter.
Loving the dialect. And you could sense the intensity of the topic right from the beginning.

have not read many. The Kitchen House, Homegoing, The Invention of Wings and Calling Me Home. I liked Homegoing better than other books.

Read till Chapter 7. Enjoying it so far. Surely Skeeter is going to be the best character... and Hilly the worse!

Still in 5th chapter..
The babies grows up and learns all the things from maids but still the maids are considered to be having so many illness... And even the food is prepared by the maids.. that won't cause the illness to spread?
Everything is based on the convenience of the rich white people?
Though racial discrimination, but also could be generalised for the servant class....

Jaya recommended The Underground Railroad on this subject, will try to pick it but then I have Roots: The Saga of an American Family and Someone Knows My Name on my tbr too. will read those two first.
