How do we like the book so far? Are there any characters that you like? Any you don't? Let's talk about part one here!

Given how much I like the horror genre, it is kind of surprising that I've never read Interview With The Vampire. I mean, it is a classic, right? I guess that having seen the movie when it was released and not being terribly moved by it (and honestly, I remember nothing from it), plus I'll admit to being a bit biased against the vampire subgenre, so I've just never bothered with this book. I'm happy to finally dig into it because of this group.
Okay... my Kindle version doesn't seem to be broken down into four parts, so I'm breaking this where I think Part 2 starts... when Lestat brings Claudia into the fold with Louis.
This has been an interesting read so far. There has been a bit of hesitation and hand-wringing from Louis, and part of me is just like "quit whining about everything and eating rats, and get on with your vampire self"...but he is the perfect opposite of Lestat and I can see their tension building to a confrontation down the road.
Some parts of this have been a bit more gruesome than I expected. I think it was when Louis bit his first neck, and he had to work to break the skin...that description actually turned my stomach. And then when Lestat comes in after Louis bites Claudia and he starts dancing with her dead mother...wow...that was grim...and I loved it.
This book got off to a slow start, but I'm really interested to see where it goes from here.

This is my first time reading the book, but I've seen the movie over a decade ago. I'm enjoying it a lot and I enjoy the way it is written. It takes it's time and really focuses on the characters.
I love seeing the dynamic between Louis and Lestat. Lestat is dark and realistic while Louis is idyllic and tries to stay moral, even though he is vampire. Claudia is very ruthless and I think she's my favorite. There is no one I dislike at all at this point. Excited to read more.

The relationship between Lestat and Louis is my favorite thing about this book. The way that they have this dislike of each other but also need each other. I love the whole storyline with Claudia as well. A child vampire? It’s dark and interesting but also heartbreaking. Because on the outside she is forever a child, though inside she has all of this experience and growth. I feel bad for her really, even though she is a devilish little thing! I really like this story and Rice’s vampires in general. In most literature they’re just these blood thirsty, mindless monsters. But these vampires, though blood thirsty, also appreciate art and read books and stuff. It’s just great how she’s humanized them so much, especially as the series goes on. I am enjoying this reread!
