Many a time I have found that movies are extensions of books. And many bookworms are movie lovers too. I am not an avid movie buff - I dont have the patience to sit through 2 or 3 hours, but I manage to watch movies now and then in bits and pieces ( hugely aided by Tatasky Plus). I thought if any of us found any movie interesting or 'moving' or just plain entertaining we could share with others. This came to my mind when I wanted to know more about Rakta... and Gothika.

Currently I am watching 'fracture' which came in HBO about a couple of months ago, a very crisp crime mystery with taut courtroom scenes - it is the battle of wits between the old murderer ( a rich and successful man who has supposedly murdered his infidel young trophy wife) and a young but cocky attorney who looks as if he is in his teens. I am savoring the movie at present, though I dont know how I will feel about it once I finish watching.

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

i just watched american beauty.
Its all about dysfunctional families and how ,the image some people project or try to show the world ,is not really what or who they really are.
there was no good guy or bad guy in this movie... everybody portrayed a different shade of grey!

so far I havent read Harry Potter or watched the movies though I have the complete book set and all the earlier movies. I am eagerly waiting for my son to grow up a bit so that both of us can read and watch together.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

finally saw Promos of Rakht Charitra on tv! for once i think Vivek Oberoi kinda looks nice :)

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

have seen harry potter-7 Ist part........nd have read it too its an amazing movie with amazing location nd cinematography....a must watch...waiting 4 2nd part in july....

message 8: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Smitha, Am sure u'd be hooked to it along with ur son ofcourse!

Hazel, I feel Vivek Oberoi always looks good in such tough guy roles!

Isha, Seen it already? how did u find it? am waiting for tmrw afternoon!

message 9: by Sujaritha (new)

Sujaritha Gone Baby Gone by Dennis Lehane was the last movie I saw adapted from a book. The book is a must read and so is the movie, a must watch!!!

message 10: by Shreeya (new)

Shreeya (outsider) | 69 comments The Usual Suspects - Kevin Spacey at his best. One of the most tightly scripted and crafted movies I've seen in a long, long time.

message 11: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments just back from watching HP-7 part one. It's an ok movie, mainly because it's ended very abruptly. Even the plot has nothing..i mean there is no purpose that was achieved at the end...in all HP movies, there is a very tight script where we were eagerly waiting for smthng from the start to the end. I think they didn't divide the seventh book at the right place to still give it a 'complete movie' feel! This worsens the waiting period for the next part which will only be released in july 2011, sigh!

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

They should have released the second part within a few months of releasing the first.

I saw Dear John today. i knew it was based on a Nicholas Sparks book of the same title, but avoided watching it for a while thinking it'll have a sad ending n not the "happily ever after" I'm usually fond of. I was wrong of course, but still it wasn't a great watch.
Channing Tatum was good at the character he portrayed and a little twist in the story was nice. only thing is it didnt interest me enough for me to want to read the book now

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I saw social network today!
loved it!

finally completed 'Fracture' and loved it. I enjoy Anthony Hopkins movies; the new actor (or isn't he?) Ryan Gosling was impressive as a young attorney. I would recommend it for all 'court room drama' fans

message 15: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Anthony Hopkins as an actor starts haunting you after you watch the Hannibal Lecter series! I couldn't see him in any other role after that :-(

Talking of court room dramas, the first ones that come to my mind are "Kramer vs Kramer" and "My Cousin Vinny"! Apart from that i have "A few good men" and "12 angry men" still waiting to be watched! Will add "Fracture" to the list

message 16: by Mohit (new)

Mohit | 415 comments You can add "Anatomy of a Murder" to that list as well.

message 17: by Shreeya (new)

Shreeya (outsider) | 69 comments The Castle - a great Aussie movie. Not a courtroom drama so much as a courtroom farce. It includes one of my favourite lines from a movie.

'my cousin Vinnie' was hilarious. I just loved Vinnie and his girl friend

message 19: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments ya...never imagined that it wud b the grl friend who wud solve the case at the end. The way she talks abt the tyre prints and the cars was totally unexpected!

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes man was in store for me to watch today since i had nothing better to do.
nice movie about this guy Carl Allen (jim carrey) who leads a really boring life until he makes a covenant with him self at a seminar, to say yes to every opportunity that befalls him....
Finally saw Jim carrey in a role that didnt make him look like a mental hospital break out. The only other movie that i thought he was good in was Bruce Almighty.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

I just tortured myself with "i love you man"
Any of you all who actually like the movie plz dont read ahead!

This is not a movie most girls will enjoy,
I actually liked Paul Rudd before seeing this movie. Here he has just acted so so gay! All through the movie i thought the climax was going to be him ending his engagement and moving in with "sidney". All the humour was based on awkward moments and didnt really strike a chord with me.
Highlight of the movie: some of the songs that i kinda liked, but other than that a lot of it actually grossed me out especially the projectile vomit scene:(
in short:- ugh!

message 22: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Am having a better time with "The Ugly Truth" on HBO. Loving it so far..looks like just a li'l different version of Will Smith's Hitch. But am liking this one more. I never liked Gerard Butler esp after what he did to "P.S. I Love You". But i gotta accept it...he is one of those few inconspicuous actors, who might not strike you as smart, but he does act!! Well, am sure the ladies have a lot more interesting opinion abt him :-) I personally feel he looked better in 300 where the beard covered his crooked mouth!

message 23: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments And i loved Katherine Heigl just for that one moment: At the end of the movie, in the hot air balloon she twitches her eyes just for a fraction of a second showing her love and anger together in what will be one of the most apt expressions for a woman.

message 24: by [deleted user] (last edited Dec 04, 2010 07:41PM) (new)

The charm is IN the crooked mouth!! :)
ugly truth is a fun movie! Katherene Heigl was really gud in it :)
is bride wars done on HBO? it was on a while back. wanted to see it but couldnt :(

message 25: by Muddle head (new)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments yeah, that's done. I can't bear the crooked mouth rolling away incomprehensible dialogues! Well, enough abt that crooked thing, but the movie is good! It's a fun watch! switched over to Bond on *movies

'Meet the parents' - really funny moments with Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro. I dont know who the female lead is. Yesterday for a change both of us (husband and me) watched it together. Usually both of us become free at different times and our tastes drastically differ - he into action movies and news channels and my interest being humor/mystery/crime and reality/foodie channels.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

the eye!
ok this is seriously a movie for ppl like me who have a very low resistance to scary films... It bordered on being scary and kept me entertained enough for me to know what happens in the end.
Im not going to say its a great watch but nice enough:)

I will surely watch out for this movie if at all it comes on TV (its ages since I watched a movie in the theatre)

Muddle head (adic) | 4646 comments Eat, Pray and Love. Julia Roberts rocks, shez not pretty to look at any more! But she continues to blow us away with her acting skills. Didn't know it's an adaptation until i saw the credits at the end of the movie!

The Ugly Truth wow...nice movie.Infact a very nice movie. If I start my compliment session, I am surely the moderator will have to delete my post because it'll be too long & too boring :P
I guess I have already written something about The Knowing so I better not repeat myself...
Has anybody seen V for Vendetta??
@Hazel hey I found The Social Network similar to Guru, a hindi movie starring Abhishek and Aishwarya..did you find it similar too??

wow!!I managed an exceptionally long post without even describing my favorite movie properly!!

message 34: by dely (new)

dely | 5483 comments V for Vendetta is a good movie!
Don't ask me to talk about it, please! (too difficult for me but trust me, very good movie)

In this last period I look only horror movies because of my son, he is "in trip" with such movies. I am so scared but mamma makes also this for his puppy.

thanks, Hazel. Will surely pass on this message to Gautham. Nowadays he has deserted goodreads for other pursuits (playing incessant computer games, watching kids channels, reading GK books and playing with his gang of friends)

message 37: by dely (new)

dely | 5483 comments Really? Why?

Curiosity: also in english the title is V for Vendetta? Because "vendetta" is an italian word, ti means vengeance.

message 38: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47116 comments Mod
vendetta is used in English too.
I have read thriller series starting with A for Alibi by Sue Grafton, have reached till R is for Ricochet. I wonder whether it is a movie version of Sue Grafton novels. will check it out on the net later on

message 44: by [deleted user] (last edited Dec 29, 2010 05:45PM) (new)

Ohk.. from that angle n to some extent... they both didnt make it big by being sqeaky clean.. so yeah in that way both movies are similar :)
