Most Recent Book Review
My thoughts about this book are rather complicated, mainly because I finished it so quickly I didn’t really have much time to absorb and connect myself to the storyline or the characters.
It wasn’t so much that the storyline itself was lacking, I mean it’s your typical teen read – problems at school, difficulties with parents, with boys, and now your best friend has just died. Oops, so much for a perfect life.

Overall, I was satisfied with the way it all ended. I liked the way all the threads were finally pulled together, and final page had me laughing out loud. I think I will be picking up another book by K.Ryer Breese in the future.

The Goddess Test hooked me from the very first chapter. Kate drives her ailing mother to her hometown to live her last days. While in Eden she meets Henry, only he claims he is Hades, ruler of the dead and the Underworld. Through a crazy turn of events he has convinced Kate, now she has to under-go test to become a goddess herself, and to live at Eden manor for 6 months every year.

When I first read the description for this book, it intrigued me. I am very glad that I took the time to read it!!! I had received this book from an ARC swap group that I belong to on Goodreads.
Maya is sixteen. Lochan is seventeen. They have 2 other brothers and one sister whom are all younger than them. Their father had left them and never looked back. He now has remarried and made a whole new family of his own. Their mother is an alcoholic and is always going out with her boyfriend and sometimes never comes home. This leaves Lochan and Maya in charge of their siblings and running the household. Lochan also suffers from a social anxiety disorder. The kids at school view him as a freak because he literally does not talk while there.

Well... I must say that the first half of the book was cute but only so-so. The end of the book was great though! All of a sudden the story really took off. I have to say it was kinda daring for the author to talk about an interracial relationship that took place in the 1920s.

Girl Wonder is an amazing coming of age story. Charlotte's journey into a new school and trying to discover herself was a wild ride and I really enjoyed being taken along on it. The story flowed along at a great pace and kept me interested throughout. I loved watching Charlotte bloom and I will definitely be picking up more from this author!

Shine was a great Southern YA mystery. It really captured the feel of an extremely small Southern town. I heard each character speak with a southern draw and I pictured all of these little roadside produce stands in my head. I definitely recommend Shine! I can't wait to pick up the next book by Lauren Myracle!

At it's heart, Die For Me was your classic star-crossed lover's tale, human girl falls for paranormal boy, and they have to overcome all of the obstacle that comes along with that. Die For Me was also so much more than that. It was an a original paranormal element that was fun and sweet. The battle was intense and the love story was beautiful.

I let Hex Hall (book 1 in this series) sit on my shelf for months before I picked it up. After reading it, and loving it, I knew I wouldn't want to wait that long with Demonglass! At the end of Hex Hall Sophie makes a big decision about what she wants to do with her powers, and Demonglass begins with her deciding if she will follow through with that or not.
If I Stay by Gayle Forman
Sometimes you finish a book so quickly that you don’t have time to register its flaws. This book was not one of them.

I picked up My Unfair Godmother expecting a quick, fluffy read. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was so much more! When Tansy finds her life sliding off track, a fairy godmother (or, actually, a fair godmother, she hasn't graduated yet) and a leprechaun show up in her room to tell her that she can have 3 wishes, she only has to sign a contract. But, it won't take long for Tansy to realize that these wishes aren't really going as planned, and her life was much better off before her godmother ever showed up.

I was excited to start Mercy since I saw the beautiful cover revealed. Angel books can really be hit and miss for me, and so far this year I've had really good luck with debut angel books! Unfortunately, this one was only so-so.

Blood Magic was an amazing read. The atmosphere and pace of Blood Magic were exactly what I love, beautiful and haunting, yet fast paced and fun-filled as well. Silla is handed a journal of her fathers' that is filled with spells after her father and mother's death. She soon pulls herself, and those around her, into a whirlwind of danger, in a magically bloody ride she never expected.

Lindsey's story begins with her death. It's not often you get to start a book like that, and that wasn't the only wonderfully unique thing about Between. It's only the beginning. When she wakes up in a beautiful meadow, at the feet of a beautiful Scottish guy, Lindsey soon finds herself falling head over heels in love. Who knew love would come after her life had already ended?

Woo what a ride! I nearly forgot how it felt to be obsessed with a book so much that I would carry it around with me literally everywhere I went. I love dystopians books more than anything, so this book was spot on for me.

Desires of the Dead by Kimberly Derting
Do remember me saying in my review of The Body Finder that "I don’t want to diminish hope that this series will get better. Because it has to, right?" Right.
You know, when I wrote that review I doubted my so-called hope. I truly didn't think this series would get any better, I thought it was a lost cause and I would finish the next book - this book - feeling disappointed and dropping the series completely.

In A Nutshell:
It is hard to say that I enjoyed this book because I do not feel like it is a book that is meant to be enjoyed. It was meant to make the reader think, and I finished the book with a lot to think about. This book would be an excellent book club selection because it is definitely a book you will want to discuss.
Review:
For anyone who has been hurt by a friend (or more precisely a former friend), it sometimes seems like Karma is taking too long to balance out or make that person pay for the wrong. Helen Worthington has spent three years obsessing over the wrong done to her by her ex-best friend. So when circumstances give her a chance to go back and face her ex-best friend, she takes it as an opportunity to give karma a push in the right direction. But Karma really does not need the help. It balances things out naturally and in its own time. And Helen (AKA Claire Dantes) learns that revenge can have its own consequences.

I really love the world that Carroll created when he penned down Alice in Wonderland. It’s incredibly out there but holds tons of meaning, it’s a story that requires thought without bogging you down. As a side thought, I hated Alice as a person. But that’s not the point, the point is I really enjoy the world of Wonderland, so the thought of being able to see what another author thought about some of the Jabberwocky’s origins as a monster is appealing to me and I can honestly say that I was not disappointed in the least.

Like most praised YA books I figured this was yet another overrated book that recieved tons of praise because it was “different”. I can say I was plesantly surprised. I’m not very versed in werewolf novels, but I felt this was a very well put together and thought out.

So this was more like a 3.5, but I couldn't put 4 stars for some reason.
Arcadia the main character in the series is really likable and the plot is interesting with quite a few twists and turns.All in all it was a very nice book to read and one I would recomend!
So what can I tell without spoiling it...
The story takes place in the present in a world where demons are real, magicians exist and some demons who were bound in human bodies in the past have offsprings that still walk amongst. Arcadia is a bartender in a bar she ownes along with a friend. Seven years ago, after a series of murders that her parents were blamed for, they took Arcadia (whose real name was selene)and went on the run. Not long after that Arcadia parted ways with her parents to muddle their trail and they staged their death.
Arcadia is a unique magician because of her silver halo and her ability to see certain things normal people can't. Just as she's gotten used to her normal life everything changes when she receives an ultimatum from the group that hunted her parents after footage appears that places her family in America. Now she either has to prove their innocence or give herself up to the group that wants her dead. In her efforts Cady asks the help of a friend, Father Carrow, who leads her to a demonologist named Lon Buttler. Lon is a earthbound demon, but something about him is not right. Together the two are fighting against time to prove the innocence of her parents.
And that's pretty much all I can say without spoiling it any more!!!
Just one more thing! I loved JUPE!!!!! Jupe is Lon's 13 year old son and he is hillarious!!!!
Ico: Castle in the Mist by Miyuke Miyabe.
"I can’t get this book out of my head. As soon as I finished it, I wanted to just start over and read it all again. It gave me that feeling in the pit of my stomach that I just wouldn’t be able to read anything else, because this left my emotions so knotted. I couldn’t believe it was over because I just wanted more.
I’ll tell you know this will probably be a long review, because once I start talking about Ico, game or book, I can really ramble. So please bear with me!
Anybody who knows me, outside of just this blog, know how much I love Ico. I first played the game in December, and I completely fell in love. It was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen in my life, and no other game had ever left me feeling so wonderful. The story of deep friendship and love and selflessness reminded me of Avril Lavigne’s “This Innocence” –“it’s so beautiful, it makes you want to cry.” Ico was the first game I’d ever played that truly felt real to me. If you want to read/hear more ramblings from me on this game, just feel free to ask me any time–I always enjoy talking about it!
Anyway, onto the book! If you’ve played Ico, don’t expect this book to be a word for word account of the game, because it isn’t. Ico is a puzzle game and therefore, would probably make for an incredibly boring book! However, Miyabe took the Ico that we know and love and made it deep. She did all sorts of things and connected it to the game seamlessly. This book has a 5/5+, because if I could give it more than five stars, I would.
When I start talking about something I really, truly love, sometimes my thoughts don’t make any sense. I apologize for that in advance, and hope you can make some sense of what I’m trying to convey! I’ll also reference the game a lot, since comparisons between game and book are a large part of what made this so spectacular."

God is really testing my self-control because this is the second unpleasant book I've read in a row. See, God? I'm learning. I said "unpleasant" instead of "unexplainably horrific, dull and pointless". Well, to be honest, it wasn't that bad. In fact, the beginning was quite promising. I actually started to think that I may enjoy this book. Ah-ha! Enter the sexy, smouldering beast with "rock-star" eyes that is supposedly Brendan Salinger and it was just like every other young adult paranormal romance novel out there.

I really, really wanted to like this book.
I came late to the “Sword of Truth” novels via the television programme “The Legend of the Seeker”.
I liked the TV programme because I appreciated the characters, the world they lived in and the central theme of good overcoming evil. In fact I’m still hoping for a third series, but that’s by the by.
But, this book, oh dear!
It reads like a hastily put together knock off of the TV series. Where the previous books were rich in characterisation, world building and plot, this book reads as if the author saw a lucrative opportunity to make some money off the back of the enormous international fandom of the television programme. And there’s nothing wrong with that if only Mr Goodkind had used some of his talent to produce a good book.
But this is such a disappointment. For a start although the book has 608 pages, the font is so big that it probably is a much shorter book. This book would probably make a half decent novella or hour long television episode
The complexity and storytelling of the original novels is missing, all the characters are there though some for only brief cameo appearances.
And the writing is lazy and in many places anachronistic. I know that it is a fictional world and the characters can speak using whatever vocabulary the author wishes, but in a fantasy novel such as this there must be an effort made to not use modern idioms, because they just snap the reader back into the modern world whenever they appear and ruin the overall enjoyment of the story.Terms such as “I guess” “Game on” “Gotten” “Dead quiet” destroy the illusion, and would Kahlan really say “ If you think I’m taking my clothes off, you have another think coming?” I think not.
And it would be a foolish man who would tell a Mord Sith not to get “snippy”!

Honestly Mr Goodkind , what were you thinking when you wrote that line?
The book drags along until the last few pages then the ending is neatly tied up in a few pages, it almost as if the author got bored or was too close to a deadline, so he hastily wrote a nice and neat ending . While on the verge of death the hero remembers a cryptic message from much earlier in the book and suddenly understands what he has to do.
Talk about “With one bound he was free.”
Ridiculous !
"This one is more of a summer beach read where you'll lie on shore and breeze thru it, and once you're done, you'll place the book on your chest, sigh in contentment, then forget about it the next day."

don´t have words to describe this book, it was everything I hoped for and then some.
I couldn´t help but get caught up in this book so much that I when I looked up from it last night it was 3 am, and my first thought was “Hell I’ll be drinking lots of coffee tomorrow at work” and then I looked down and… yeah you got it!!! I kept reading.
Calla´s journey through the new world she experience and the palpable knowledge that she´s free of the Keepers but not form herself was intoxicating; her struggle with her feelings, her loyalties to her pack and to her new allegiances, keeps you on your toes the entire book.

Okay, I realize that this book is more of a children’s book, and therefore probably shouldn’t be judged as harshly. I also needed a pretty thin book to read between Lock and Key and starting my October book for my book club at school, and I had about a week to kill. I got this book for free from Read Across America in about the third grade, so that shows you just about how old it is. So rather judging based on complexity and different elements like I normally would, I’m trying to be a bit more lenient. However, based on writing alone, this isn’t the greatest of books, even for a kids’ book.
