The Secret by Lee Child

Claire’s first review of the year

it was amazing
A blast from the past with old school army Reacher was just what I needed. This is definitely the best of the co-written Reacher novels so far. Plenty of all the things we love about Reacher, nothing to complain about.

Plainsong by Kent Haruf

Claire’s last review of the year

it was amazing
I feel late to the Kent Haruf party but I am ON THE BUS. The second of his novels that I have read thanks to an excellent recommendation from Susie. Plainsong is a tender and yet totally unsentimental novel of everyday life, its hardships, moments of connection, and the intersection of lives in a small rural town. It has a lot to say about how people treat each other, and is told with such compassion for its characters. It’s beautifully written, ...more
