The Village of Eight Graves by Seishi Yokomizo

Charles’s first review of the year

really liked it
Lengthier than the previous English language relases by Seishi Yokomizo from Pushkin Vertigo, this novel presents an interesting story from a nervous and overwhelmed narrator. Detective Kosuke Kindaichi is more of a minor character in this novel, but the setting itself is quite a unique character. Overall pleasant enough mystery. I look forward to reaching the fourth Detective Kindaichi mystery released by Pushkin Vertigo.

Charles’s last review of the year

it was amazing
What a fantastic page turner! The author deftly crafts a setting among the people living in early to mid-1800s borderlands of Texas and Mexico. The supernatural element is unique to its place and time and I commend the author on crafting such a believable scare. I read this in one sitting and truly wish I could be further immersed in further stories about these characters.
