Tori is dealt a terrible blow when she is given to a couple of pirates as insurance on a ship. But finding herself lifted up into an airship is only the first of many surprises. The second? Malcolm and Sean attacked her ship in order to get their hands on her. Malcolm and Sean both realize they need a woman in their relationship. Tori seems to be the perfect solution. But can she see past their physical differences to the men beneath and accept them as they are? But Tori is more then she appears. She’s been passing secrets to the old-world rebels for years. When she is seen leaking information to the new-world military, will her men believe she wasn’t trying to betray them? Can each of them see past their personal expectations and accept a relationship steam-built for three?
Corinne Davies reads anything she can get her hands on from the side of a cereal box to a historical book on the Riflemen during the Napoleonic wars. During her younger years, she first put pen to paper in an attempt to write a love story between her and her favourite rock singer of the time. It was filled all the angst that only a teenager can come up with and an incredible wardrobe.
In her senior year of high school she tried again. This time, the story was more like Clash of the Titans meets Robin Hood. Despite the unusual combination, the lack of plot, and a horrendous amount of dialogue, she received a lot of encouragement from her grade 12 English teacher. (Thank you Mrs Harvey!)
During the wee hours of the morning, when her first daughter insisted on waking up, she discovered online RPGs and her love of writing emerged again. After many encouraging words from fellow writers, she decided to try her hand at developing her own stories. Something, she quickly learned, was not as easy as she had imagined.
By day, she is a full-time wife, mother, and product consultant. At night, she avoids such mundane tasks as housework and laundry by creating her own worlds where mythology comes to life. Worlds in which you are just as likely to be living next door to an ancient Deity as finding an mystic treasure in the attic.
Steam Powered Passion is the first book in the Steampunked Lust series by Corrine Davies. It was my first book by Davies as well as my first in this genre.
The book opened with nobles on a ship being taken over by pirates. The ship owner traded his wife, Tori, to keep his ship safe. Tori's temper let loose like no lady of her time. Come to find out, the gorgeous Captain, Mal, had a lover, Sean, that was Tori's lost love and presumed dead when his ship had been captured five years prior. The storyline was then a journey of exploration, betrayal, loyalty and love between the three of them.
There was also an underlying story between the Old World and the New World that was simultaneously running along with the development between Mal, Sean and Tori. It added depth and dimension to the plot, but I was pretty confused at times. I expect the same saga will be running through the series as a consistent theme that ties them altogether, but that's a story for another day.
Steam Powered Passion was a quick, interesting and enjoyable read. It was a technical perspective to a historical time mixed with second chances, graphic MMF steamy scenes and forever love.
For my first book by this author and this genre, I was pretty captivated and interested. I look forward to continuing the series with Steamed Up Memories.
I haven't read an Erotic Romance novel in a while and my experience with Steampunk is quite limited. So, when I saw a Siren title offered both as well as a touch of Regency and the rather curious menage element, I jumped at the chance to read it. I was pleasantly surprised, but think that my criteria for future books and perception of quality may have stepped up in recent months. GIST When Lady Viktorya Trenton's husband Lord Alexander Trenton decides to chose his ship over her, she is given over to some pirates on The Seahawk. On the ship is her former beloved Sean, believed long-dead, who is now the lover of the ship's captain Malcolm Dygannon. Their relationship cooling, the captain sees the arrival of Viktorya (who Sean is clearly still in love with) as an opportunity to bring a long-term female lover to their bedroom. And while this is going on, Viktorya is looking for a way to pass on secret information to some rebels she has stolen from her scuzzy husband. THOUGHTS The opening scene shows Viktorya being given away without hesitation by her husband. It also introduces Jacko, Gareth, Mal and the two rather likable bisexual ladies (Caroline and Tabitha) that occasionally service the sailors on-board the ship. Sean is mentioned but isn't introduced until the second chapter. This works well as it is clear from the beginning that Mal has sought out Trenton's ship in order to save the girl whilst also giving the opportunity for Sean and to Tori meet. Why go to all of that trouble? It is obvious that Lord Trenton is a horrible guy that not only an adulterer but is a mongrel slaver as well. Corinne Davies does a wonderful job of pacing the novel, careful not to heap information on the reader from the outset. This gives the reader the opportunity to learn about the characters over time, with a desire to learn more about each of the main characters because they are somewhat likable. This also lets us learn more about the plans enacted by the villains as seen by how it effects the heroes. The Steampunk Regency world-building is also somewhat interesting as they play such an important role on our characters. This is not something considered rather than simply slapped together in ten minutes. Though we don't get to see some of the technology, we get to experience some of it through mild sensory info such as the sound of the engines. Given that this is a menage Erotic Romance, we have a few sex scenes. It establishes the attraction of the three main characters from the outset, even if Tori feels somewhat troubled by her circumstances. The story does have a few of them, each having a strong emotional touch to them. The emotional element adds a lot to the story, as well as making the sex scenes more titillating. We also learn from a bit of the commentary some of the reasoning for the various hangups for these three troubled characters. One is fearful of hurting others, one of fearful of being hurt, the other is fearful of being betrayed. And all are fighting for some semblance of control over their lives. CONCLUSION As you can see from my 4 out of 5 rating, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved the characters, the plot had lots of drama and intrigue, and the sex scenes were emotionally charged. My only gripe about the story related to some scenes dragging out a little too long and some of the dialogue of Sean and Malcolm using modern-ish terminology. However, these didn't take away heavily from the entertainment value of the story.
Swashbuckling pirates and a damsel in distress, what more can a gal ask for in an adventure story? How about a hot ménage a trois between the two sexy males and the feisty female? This erotic tale mixes elements of steampunk to aid the steamy storyline. I thoroughly enjoyed this story from Ms. Davies.
Ms. Davies is a new author to me and I like her writing style. Her writing voice immediately pulled me in from the first few paragraphs. We dive into the story with Tori held hostage by pirates while her husband, Trenton, smugly chooses his boat over her life. He is the scum of the earth. His request for the pirates to kill her quickly so he can get back to Tori's sister for physical comfort shows us Trenton's true colours. Tori immediately switches from a damsel in distress to a Lady bent on vengeance after she recovers from her shock and hurt. I root for her all the way.
Tori is now at the mercy of Pirate Captain Malcolm. Little does she know, her life is not to be ended, but actually start with an old flame. Once Tori is reunited with Sean, the story continues to move at a steady pace. I liked how Tori never once backed down. She was always thinking and she did her best to defend herself and seek a way to complete her mission. Tori's mission is to deliver important information to the Rebels for her sister.
The sexual dynamics between Sean, Mal and Tori are hot and steamy. The sex scenes where it is just Sean and Mal together are equally sexy and sizzling. I like how the ménage is truly one where the men have a relationship with each other too. This is a true triad.
The world Ms. Davies creates is a bit sketchy. There is an Old versus New World and I'm neither sure how the players align nor the issues between the two opposing forces. We do know Tori is a Rebel sympathizer. It would have helped if Ms. Davies explained a bit more about the opposing forces and the different allegiances. The steampunk elements were loosely woven into the storyline. I would categorize this more as a steampunk light story. I am hoping there will be a follow up book with Tori's sister as the main focus.
In a follow up book, I hope to see more integrated pieces of Steampunk. I would like to see a world where Steampunk is the main technology. Perhaps the Old and New World are fighting over this technology. Yes, there was an airship that also worked in the Sea. Yes there was a man with a mechanical arm. There were a couple of other little trinkets. I'd prefer a complete civilization where steampunk elements are more fully integrated. Still, as a first book with steampunk elements, it is a decent start.
I recommend this book to those who enjoy both ménage and m/m relations. I highly recommend this book to people who enjoy an erotic adventure with a happily ever after.
Corinne brought the a different world to today’s readers. Wow, this story of Viktorya’s, Sean and Malcolm was wonderful read and very entertaining to see a female put two men in their place as they put her in theirs right between them.
Tori was in a loveless marriage and to her that was fine as long as she could keep her secret of giving the enemy their information needed to over throw the New World. What she didn’t count on was a husband who was willing to kill her instead of loving her. The day she was abducted from her husbands ship was the day her life really started. Facing the unknown future was better than looking at a man who care nothing for her.
Mel Captain of his ship and of Sean his first mate and the love of his life he would do anything for and that is also bring Tori into their relationship. Sean had loved Tori since childhood and he couldn’t believe that Tori would marry a man without love. What he didn’t realize was the deep hurt that it cost her to marry Alexander,. The man without a heart or soul. | |Malcolm was strong and he used that strength to get him what he wanted. Sean was a man who was built to kill but when an accident caused him to lose one arm what was a man to do but build another. And being a mechanist he could and did just that. All Tori knew was that she had her old friend and the love of her life back and when he came with Malcolm then she knew her life was complete.
The story of the three has many twist and turns and it was so exciting to read a book where you couldn’t put it down till the last word was read. Great job of writing an intriguing book. The sex scenes give you a warm and cozy feeling deep inside.
Tori is keeping some serious secrets, but no one in this book is as they seem. So many characters have hidden agendas or double lives that you will be guessing who is good and who is bad throughout the whole story. And the story was engrossing. Equal parts passion and intrigue, it kept my interest from page one. The characters were rich and I felt like I could immerse myself in the story as though I were really there. The sex scenes were hot but what really got my attention was the plot. It is an exciting story full of mystery and action. There are several scenes where you feel like you are part of the battle. Just when you think you have it all figured out, something happens to throw it off course. I do so love a story that isn't too predictable. Of course the main characters get their HEA. And there are also many other characters introduced that make it clear there will be more books in this series.
This was my very first Steampunk book. I was blown away! The details were rich and imaginative. I love how they mix a Victorian era with all sorts of new technology and off the wall inventions. Writing a story like this takes some serious world building and Corinne Davies did not disappoint. I was very impressed with the attention to detail and the effort Ms. Davies put into making this a rich exotic adventure for the reader. I am ready to start book 2: Steam Up Memories in which we get to know more about Tori's sister Yzabeau. I highly recommend this book!

Decently entertaining, super-conventional steampunk with corsets and airship pirates, minimal psychological characterisation and conflict, and lots of smut. It will do just fine if you want a completely unchallenging, unobtrusive bedtime read after a hard day's work.
