“Okay, well, first, you’re not just going to be the boss of me—”
Bryn tugged me to a stop and stepped in close. “Yes, I am.”

3.5 stars. I DNF'd this book last year, and looking back at my review for it, and what I expected from it, I'm glad that I came back to give it another try. It's not a new favourite or anything, but it did end up pleasantly surprising me in a few ways. And I have to commend the audiobook, because this is one of those books that I really don't think I'd have gotten through sans audio.

It's a sapphic college romance about Liv, who's in love with her best friend. Bryn, a mutual friend of theirs, helps her get over her crush by taking over certain aspects of her life for her, and in so doing, they fall for each other instead. There's also a bit of a roommates plot, as Bryn has to move in with Liv and Jamie. As always, I'm not a fan of new adult or college romances, so that wasn't really a draw for me. The friend group seemed fun, but I didn't immediately want to read all their books or anything. Both main characters have their own personal damage that made them more dynamic, which was appreciated. but they're also but very wealthy, which is something that I just don't enjoy reading about. I guess we managed to sidestep some of the more annoying tropes that might have appeared if this had been rich girl/poor girl, but there was still a 'boo hoo, when people find out how much money I have it can cause problems, so I usually have to keep it secret, boo hoo' moment which almost turned me off the character completely. They all also seemed to have very upper-middle class/rich ideas about drugs. As in, 'Sure I'll buy drugs and do drugs, but be friends with or date someone who deals drugs? Gasp!' Little things like that just make me cranky.

But I still ended up really enjoying the romance. The author did a good job of showing Liv pining over Jamie overtly, while quietly falling more and more for Bryn, without even noticing it. By the end you could see the difference between the real feelings she had for Bryn, and the love that she thought she had for Jamie. This had such a nice slow burn, and even though there was a bit of push and pull where characters didn't want to admit their feelings, it didn't feel annoying, or overly manufactured. When I DNF'd it, I mentioned that because it was so short, it wasn't likely that the author could convince me of their love, but I was wrong! The slow burn helped a lot in that regard. There was something really appealing and convincing about the way this started. Liv is feeling lost and aimless in a lot of ways, so it felt realistic that she would allow Bryn to take over her life for a bit, get Bryn's guidance in get getting over Jamie, and in general. I loved that we didn't see the list that Liv gave to Bryn, so every new activity came as a surprise. There's lot of great scenes where we get to see their chemistry come together subtly, and then more overtly. The skinny dipping? The restaurant??? Ahhhhh. By the end, I was rooting for them so much.

(As an aside, this was yet another instance of me skipping ahead in a romance series because I wanted to read the sapphic book, but this was better than most. There is a sort of ongoing storyline with the friend group, but it's very easy to pick up, and I wasn't confused. What I WAS confused about was why they were obsessed with TVD. Haha, I kid, I kid. I've just never seen it, and the references flew over my head. But fr, there should been more PLL watching.)

Listened to the audiobook as read by Lexi Evans, and really enjoyed it. I love her accent. And truly, I couldn't have done this without the audiobook. The things that bugged me about the writing style didn't really register, when listening to it. It flowed well, and the narrator uses enough emotion that I didn't mind the lack of description so much. Also, every time I glanced at the e-book, I saw another punctuation mistake that made my eye twitch, and I know that despite my best intentions, if I'd read the book with my eyes, it would have annoyed me enough to bring the rating down. So hell yeah for audiobooks. I'm really glad I gave this another try, even if it's not a fave. It's a solid win! Not every DNF that I come back to ends this well. And I'm intrigued by the author's fantasy romance, so I might try that next.

Her hand slid into my hair, tugging like she’d never get me close enough, and her lips tasted mine like they were never meant to be apart.

--

DNF @ 18%. Usually I'll give books a bit longer before I give up on them, but it took me soooooo long to get through that itty bitty 18%. The writing style really doesn't work for me, and I kept getting the dreaded urge to do a thorough punctuation edit while reading, which isn't the way I want to feel about something I'm reading for fun. There's a lack of description in the prose that really bothers me, because I feel so distant from the characters. Also the characters aren't clicking for me, which perhaps I should have seen coming; I rarely click with new adult/college romance. The premise is cute: Liv is going to get Bryn's help to fall out of love with her best friend. But then I noticed that it's only 200 pages, which solidified the DNF for me. I don't think the author will get me to care about these characters in such a short period of time.

If I were in a different mood, I would have pushed through, and who knows! Maybe one day I will. But right now I feel too cranky to continue reading something that's not doing it for me.

I received this complimentary ARC, courtesy of Jade Church, in exchange for an honest review.

This instalment in the Sun City series was a really sweet, sapphic romance about learning how to fall in love again, when your first love is regrettably unrequited. Liv doesn’t quite know what the future holds for her until she recruits someone a lot more responsible to help set her life back on track, and naturally, romance ensues. As with Get Even, it was short, fun and I can’t wait for the next!

This was a fun, quick romance read. I loved being back in this world, although I had some trouble remembering all the characters because it was a while since I finished the first book😅

I think I loved this even more then get even. Liv and Bryn are amazing together! I loved that they were doing some sort of bucket list. This book was a slow burn although you already knew from the first page how it would end, it was just waiting on them to see it😅

I am so happy for how all the things worked out. And I may be even be a bit jealous at Liv's job😅 I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more about these characters, because damn that ending!!!

Last but not least I want to thank the author for providing me with an earc.

Hmm 🤔

Lots of diversity in characters & spectrum, but felt like token sides

The absolute randomness of Liv’s inhaler

The very use of drugs that just don’t add anything to the plot

I did DNF the 1st book in the series because it was jarring and didn’t feel clear.

This felt slow for such a short book. I didn’t feel the emotion of unrequited love that liv & Jamie was supposed to have.

Did feel the chemistry of Bryn & liv, but for me nothing really sparked as a great read.

I would recommend this to ppl who like FF, but I don’t think book is a good introduction to the sub genre. It wouldn’t make me want to read more FF or more from the author.

This was a quick cute romance read, when we first Liv, we find out she's in love with her best friend Jamie, the only issue is: Her best friend is straight and she has a boyfriend. Liv is somewhat lost and a mess, she's really trying to find herself and be comfortable not only with herself, but her family. After her friend Bryan apartment floods, Jamie and Liv offer Bryan a place to stay. Liv and Bryan truly start spending time together through movie nights and Bryan starts to help Liv get over Jamie, by giving her a list of goals to not only get her out of her shell and figure out what she wants out of life. But the more time Bryan and Liv spend together, Bryan not only helps her get past Liv. Helps her to grow, but all those feelings that Liv had for Jamie, she quickly realizes that she's in love with Bryan. I really enjoyed Liv's growth throughout this story and seeing her find her happiness and Bryan and Liv are super cute together. The ending was sweet, and I can't wait for the next book within the series.

This was a fun little romance about getting over a friend who's not interested in a romantic relationship. The idea of Bryn making decisions for Liv is a fun idea and leads to some interesting situations and some personal growth. The odd thing about this was that if you did not have it called out exactly one time in the text and shown on the cover, you would not be able to guess that Liv is a black woman because there seems to be nothing about the characterization or her thoughts or experiences that suggest so otherwise, which speaks of superficial representation to me. Otherwise, this was fun and a quick read and I don't think you need to read the first book in the series to be able to enjoy this one.

*3.5 stars. Firstly, I'd like to thank @jadechurchauthor for the eARC as part of her ARC team for an honest review.

We met Liv in the first book of the series when she moved in with Jamie (who she had a major crush on). This book follows on straight from the last book, and we follow Liv, the MC, as she ultimately gets her life together.

This is a sweet, slow burn sapphic romance between Liv and Bryn. I preferred Bryn over Liv as she seems so well put together, and Liv is a little all over the place. I did find Liv's crush on Jamie a little irritating as it just made her look so sad and desperate. Once she started to move on from Jamie, I could get on board with the MC a little more.

I do find it difficult to keep up with all the characters at times in this series as there are just so many of them. I think it would have been better to slowly introduce them rather than all at once. Also, sometimes, some of the dialogue just doesn't seem realistic and doesn't flow very well. I kept thinking to myself that this would never be something someone said.

I didn't like that Liv was asthmatic at random points in the book. It added nothing and just felt like a cliché to have the scatty unputogether character have asthma. She would just use her pump randomly, and that was it. It isn't an accessory...

I do love that there are a diverse cast of characters with great LGBTQ+ representation. I do think that sometimes there are token characters just for diversities sake.

I really loved the kind of bucket list that Liv and Bryn were slowly ticking off. It made for some great scenes and really added to the story. I loved the job Liv got (very similar to my own) and felt truly seen! Working with animals is the best. I also thought how Liv dealt with her parents was on point (something I've also done). Liv definitely grew on me as the book went on. I'd have loved more spicy scenes, but I understand it's a slow burn romance.

Overall, a good 2nd in the series read with a cute sapphic romance to follow.

Fall Hard - Little To No Spoiler Review

"If I didn't love her so much, I might have hated her"

Before I start this review I just want to thank Jade again for sending me Sun City 1&2 - I am so beyond grateful that you would send me these gorgeous books. After finishing book 1 I was really excited to continue the series as there were a few things left unanswered for me!

Liv has fallen in love with her roommate and best friend Jamie, but it isn't reciprocated. Jamie has recently got with Ryan and they are happily in love. Liv decides she needs to get over her after an embarrassing night out and enlists Bryn. Bryn helps make all of Liv's decisions and they make a sort of bucket list to mark off everything she hasn't done yet that she wants to. A situation happens which means Bryn is forced to live with Liv and Jamie for a while, they plan to get her over Jamie but the forced proximity leads to sparks flying between the two of them. This leads to making Liv question everything, including whether or not she even still loves Jamie..

Tropes:
🤍 Female/Female Romance
🤍 She's in Love With Someone Else
🤍 Her Friend Controls Her Life Choices
🤍 Female Friendships
🤍 LGBTQ+ Representation
🤍 Spicy - 18+

This was a really enjoyable read and my rating is a 3/5, the reasons why I didn't rate it higher were that I wish there was a dual POV and that it took a while to get to the actual "main" part of the book and then it was suddenly over. I'd have loved to see more happiness for the two FMC's as there was just so much back and forth of "will they, won't they" and they both deserve the world. At times I felt upset with Liv as she was being harsh to Jamie which I do understand she was hurting but that was her friend and they never even spoke about the situation properly. Overall it was such a quick easy read and I was left wanting more, and I am really looking forward to book 3 as this one was left on a slight cliffhanger for a back up character.

Trigger Warnings: references to anxiety and depression, misogyny, homophobia, alcohol and drug use, sexual harassment, on-page sex and swearing.

pretty short and sweet read! i liked the relationship between bryn and liv. liv was such a lovable disaster and bryn was so smirky but equally supportive of her through her experiment of figuring her life out. i liked how everyone knew there was something going on between them, though im surprised it wasn’t mentioned how bryn clearly liked liv from the start.

my only gripes with this are some of the writing decisions. one being that this author is seemingly operating under the impression that everyone read the first book, which i didn’t and don’t really feel the urge to. it wouldn’t be a big deal to me though if it was mentioned in the blurb that this doesn’t really function as a standalone. i mean it isn’t completely indecipherable but i feel like i was kinda just thrown into the story and expected to know who everyone was. and that leads to my other writing issue which is that there were so many three letter names in this friend group good lord- liv, leo, kat, kit, max. change it up a little bit pls i’m confused 😖

other than that- this was a really quick and lighthearted read. very cute especially with them moved in with their little kitty🥹

REVIEW:
This was such a pleasant surprise! Thanks to Jade for the ARC. I’m so glad I was able to read Liv and Bryn’s love story!

When we meet Liv, she is trying to get over being in love with her straight best friend. Through a series of drug induced events, Liv ends up giving Bryn control over her life decisions in an attempt to get her out of the rut she has been in, with her studies, her love life and her hobbies.

Their slow burn love was so sweet and what starts out as friendship slowly morphs into something deeper. Bryn is the perfect partner. She has obviously loved Liv for a long time and does whatever she can to help her realise her purpose. The selfless way she helps her achieve the items on her list, from setting her up on dates, going skinny dipping and even helping her find a job she loves - so romantic! She brings Liv out of her shell and helps her find happiness! I highly recommend this story. It is the second in a series.

Such a sweet friends-to-lovers story! This was my first time reading contemporary college romance and I really liked it!

Fall Hard is part of the Sun City series but works as a standalone and definitely made me want to go read book 1!

When Olivia falls for her BFF (who doesn’t return her feelings) Liv feels lost and alone. Unrequited love sucks and she needs someone to help her move on. In comes Bryn! No literally, here comes Bryn with her luggage because surprise! Jamie, the BFF who broke Liv’s heart, thinks Bryn and Liv are having a fling and invites Bryn to live with them! Forced proximity? YES PLEASE!

I loved Bryn! She was such a good friend from the start, even when Liv was kind of a hot mess at the start of the book. She sees Liv’s potential and helps her live her best life! Their relationship was built on a foundation of friendship and It was so sweet to see them fall in love! I will be reading the next book!

Thank you to Jade Church for the Advanced Copy to Review.

I fell in love with Jade Church’s books last year and have been slowly reading all of them so when I saw that I could maybe get an arc of this book I of course had to request it. This sapphic romance was so much fun and I loved the character development which is the focus of this book.

This book follows Liv who fell in love with her roommate that doesn’t feel the same way and in an attempt to get over her she partners with Bryn to complete a list of things she has always wanted to do. Bryn starts to fall for Liv but Liv is still getting over Jamie but continues to help with her checklist that might get a bit spicy.

Seeing Liv work through the fact she fell in love with someone who doesn’t feel the same way and get over that felt so real and I loved seeing Liv develop and move past her feelings and realize that maybe there is someone who does love her in the same way.

I highly recommend this book and book 1 in the series. They can be read as stand-alones but this one does work better if you have read book 1 to see Liv at the start of her development. This is a wonderful sapphic romance that isn’t purely focused on romance but also personal development.

I liked this book. I think it is a good plot and I loved the characters. I rated this book 3 stars because I loved the story, but I took away 2 stars because it is advertised as a “steamy” book, which I feel is inaccurate because it had all the smut parts at the end of the book and it was only like 4 smut scenes in the book and they ended rather quickly. If you want a sapphic romance with a bit of spice, this is the book for you, but if you’re looking for a bit more spicy scenes then maybe skip this one? The spicy scenes seemed rushed. Although I liked this book as a standalone, I don’t have an interest in reading the other books in the series.

P.S Do not pay attention to how long it took me to finish this book because I was reading other books alongside this one, so the time frame is not as accurate as it would be if I had read it straight through.

second book of the Sun City series and i love this a lot more than the first! i definitely felt the connection and chemistry between the MCs in this one and was rooting for them from the first page

this one’s a slower burn than the first and i love how Liv & Bryn’s friendship was built first, but i especially love the sexual tension between them throughout! their playful banter was so cute, not only to each other but with everyone around them

the found family trope is definitely growing in this one and i’m starting to get attached to them. the friend group is so chaotic but somehow they all balance each other out which i love

thank you so much Jade for the ARC, im looking forward to the next one!

Absolutely loved being back with the characters of Sun City.

What do you do when you're in love with your unavailable friend, being kicked off your course and have major family issues... well, of course you get a friend to make all the decisions.

This was a great sapphic romance with the right amount of spice. I absolutely adored Bryn and Liv and was properly rooting for them from the start. Their situationship started as a slow burn, but sexual chemistry was just jumping out of the pages.

I loved how not only was this book about friendship and romance, but it had a self development side to it too.. Livs new job I'd awesome I'm slightly jel!

Highly recommend reading both this one and Sun City #1, hooray for some F/F smut. Love it!!!

I loved being back in Sun City. These characters are so well done. They feel like friends I've always known. Even when they were just side characters in the previous book, and to be honest, I had trouble remembering 2 of them 🤣

This is quite different from get even as, is a slow burn and spice doesn't show up until the last part of the book. But it is an amazingly done slow burn, friends to lovers. Liv and Bryn are so good together. I loved their relationship based on friendship and trust.
I also love how Liv struggles with decisions. I think most of us have been in a similar situation one way or another, especially during those confusing years. I loved the job she ended up having and I wish more of those jobs existed.
This was a great read. I absolutely recommend it. We need more sapphic spicy romances, so I am very grateful to Jade Church and her lovely couples 💑

Romance is my favorite genre this year, and Fall Hard is one of my favorite romance reads of 2023. I think it's safe to say Jade Church knows how to write college romance, especially when Liv and Byrn are involved. I cannot tell you how fast I was "turning the pages" when reading this. I was compelled to read this from start to finish because I had to know how it ended.

Readers are going to be pleasantly surprised when reading this, with Byrn's determination and Liv's predicament they will need to read this as quickly as I did. Hats off to the author for creating such amazing characters and a plot that will surely have you wanting more.

Reading this book has made me want to read book 1!

This sapphic romance really drew me in with the plot line, who doesn’t want someone to come and save the day after you’ve had a case of unrequited love.

The author really built the tension perfectly between the two MCs through out this book. This is definitely a slow burn but it was written so seamlessly. I fell in love with these two characters stories and found it very difficult to put this book down once I picked it up.

This novel has all the best tropes and if you’re a fan of friends to lovers or roommates to lovers then you definitely need to pick this one up!

This was an amazing slow-burn FF romance. Operation fall-out-of-love was a great plan, even if things didn't go quite as expected. It's never easy to get over your first love, but sometimes love finds us in the most unexpected times and places. Liv and Bryn were both such great characters, and I loved watching their friendship and eventual romance progress. There were moments that made me smile, and left me feeling satisfied with the ending. A sweet sapphic romance that is sure to set off butterflies in your stomach.

It was a fun Quick read. It actually was hard to put it down. I really liked it. I usually read more dark romance so the spice was wayyy to vanilla for me but I weirdly didn’t care. It focused more on building the relationship then most authors do and it was awesome. If you want a romance sapphic book with the main character being diverse you should totally read it. As a black sapphic reader I’m going to be reading sapphic books with black main characters so if anyone here has any tips please share. That’s all peace ✌🏾

I really enjoyed this book, the girls have good chemistry and they are cute together! It was very fun to read their adventures to make Liv get over her crush and eventually see them fall (hard) for each other. Another thing I liked is that this book has pretty low levels of angst between the both MCs, there's problems but they are mostly external (check out trigger warnings!) so I had a great time reading.
This is also an open door romance and it was very well done, there may not be many spicy scenes but the quality of them were so good (which I personally prefer than so many scenes of that kind that they end up being average).
There was also kittens and I love kittens, just thought I could mention it.
If you are in the look-out for a spicy, low angst romance with college aged characters then I more than recommend this book!
Thank you to the author for the eARC.
