Rebels, royals, and monsters wage war over the Mytican throne in the shocking fourth book of the Falling Kingdoms series, from New York Times bestselling author Morgan Rhodes.

CLEO: Reeling after a bloody showdown in Limeros ending with Amara’s abduction of the water crystal, and a vacancy in the Mytican throne, Princess Cleo must cast aside her feelings and look toward her kingdom with the eyes of a Queen.

MAGNUS: With the kingdom in chaos, Princess Lucia still missing and quite possibly in danger, and a shocking realization about Cleo, the steely prince is once again torn between love and duty, leaving him wondering whether he’s strong enough to rule his people.

LUCIA: The young sorcercess has had her vengeance after the cruel death of her first and only love. Heartbroken and unable to trust anyone, she allies with the awoken Fire god, who also seeks revenge.

JONAS: After escaping death by the skin of his teeth, the defeated rebel—along with a mysterious stranger–leader reunites with Princess Cleo, only to find himself a mere pawn in a dangerous hunt for the elusive Kindred.

KING GAIUS: Abandoned by Melenia and betrayed by his own children, Gaius flees Mytica and sails to Kraeshia, where he attempts to ally with the famously brutal emperor across the Silver Sea.

Morgan Rhodes lives in Ontario, Canada. “All magic comes with a price. A price that is never revealed until after the damage has been done.”

Once Upon A Time anyone?
I don't know what's the price Morgan Rhodes has to pay for her magic and shamelessly, I don't care. Because no price will ever be enough for such a mind-blowing, engrossing book as Frozen Tides.
Of course, paying for my therapy would be greatly appreciated because I'm pretty sure this

isn't normal reaction for a 23-years-old girl who stayed up all night reading Frozen Tides instead of studying for her LLM. But then, having a list of 50+ book boyfriends that includes dark princes and aliens is not normal either.

“Because if you don't choose to fight against the wrong in the world, then you are the wrong in the world.”

In Frozen Tides, everyone fights for something. Power, love, justice, redemption, revenge, freedom, a place in the world. They fight against something. Corruption, their inner demons, their enemies, their families, their past. They use a variety of weapons. Magic, betrayal, scheming, deception, swords, arrows, brain, their bare hands. They forge alliances. They lose loved ones. They search for the elemental crystals. They try to protect their countries and their hearts. In a world where nothing can be taken for granted, Cleo and Magnus and Lucia and Jonas try to find their strength and their purpose, and their journey is full of blood, misplaced trust and love.

Frozen Tides is my favorite book in the Falling Kingdoms series. The most astonishing thing about it was that Morgan Rhodes made me feel a pang of sympathy for the most cunning and devious characters, the ones I wanted to hate and I actually hated at some points. She made me love Felix he's going to die, isn't he?, and understand Amara, and find a glimpse of humanity in Gaius. She made my mouth drop and my eyes pop like a cartoon with the shocking relevations and plot-twists, she made my head spin and my heart overwhelm with all kinds of emotions, and she gave me the most precious gift. The one I've been waiting for months and begged the book gods to deliver.
MAGNEO

“She was his princess. No. She was his goddess. With her golden skin and golden hair. She was his light. His life. His everything.
He loved her more than anything else in this world.”

*tries to get rid of goofy smile and lovey-dovey eyes*
*mission failed*
*doesn't care*
Besides my ship, many other extraordinary things happened in this book. I finally grew fond of Jonas! Surprised? Me too! Perhaps it's because he stopped pining over Cleo back off Magnus' goddess dude!, perhaps because he became more mature and tried to make up for his mistakes and failures, whatever's the reason I actually like him! And Lucia well, I still believe she needs therapy but towards the end she started behaving more like a human and less than a menace who wanted to hurt everyone because she hurt. Character development? Check! Spectacular plotline? Check! Constant heart faltering? Check! Happy Katerina? Check!
Well done Morgan Rhodes!

Reread

They freaking killed one of my favorite characters. And NO, I'm not saying who, but I certainly want to kill them all!

So, Jonas is still bumbling around getting a few things done here and there. But mostly getting saved by Lysandra and a new character named Olivia.

Magnus and Cleo are off in another place where Magnus is sitting the throne since that's what Prince's do and such. Of course his father will probably kill him, but that's neither here nor there. I love Magnus and Cleo. I was on the fence with Magnus for some time but he has redeemed himself in this book! And Cleo is just the best ever!

Some things I wanted to happen did happen, at least it seemed like it happened. I will see in the next book.

Lucia has gone over to the dark side when she lost her love in the 3rd book. She's kicking around with some jerk named Kyan. He's a . . . <--- you thought I was going to tell you. Heh! He's an arse as well that needs to be hulk-smashed!

Some rather strange but good turn of events happened. Geez, this review is starting to sound like some rambling mystery that isn't making sense. But, I can't write a normal review when I can't spoil anything so deal with it.

And I can't believe that Lucia is . . . what's going to happen with that! Omg!

Oh and freaking Amara is worse than she was before. I can't stand her!!!!!!!!!!!! To the nth people! I mean she did have a sucky childhood because her people believe if royalty has a baby girl they should be killed. <--- Seriously! Good thing she has a wicked smart grandma. But even still, she's beyond hating on peeps and life and wanting it all. She might just get it all if people don't look out!

On to the next book on tiptoes. I think there are two more coming out after it so what all is going to freaking happen with all of those books! I think everyone and everything will be killed and then it will say THE END! I hope not!

Ooops, I was going to leave a couple of funny little excerpts to lighten the mood!

Even though Magnus believed this boy was well overdue for a painful death, he had to admit that Nic did occasionally amuse him. "You might do well to consider the possibility that I don't care what my father says," he said, taking another swig. "Just how long have you been drinking here tonight, Cassian?"

Nic waved his hand flippantly. "Long enough not to care what happens next. I should kill you now, really. Just stab you with this dinner knife. Until you're good and dead."

"Yes, well, the feeling is mutual. Now, shall we pick something worthy to drink tonight?"

••••••••••••••

"No wonder it's such a repulsive mess." Olivia shook her head. "Fine. Yes, I will make some fresh healing mud since it is a perfect substance to hold earth magic. First, I'll have to find a cow."

Jonas was too weak to fully express his impatience for her to start, but this was truly unexpected. "Why do you need a cow?"

"What do you think the mud is made from?" she asked, a glimmer of amusement in her emerald eyes. "Cow dung is a common ingredient in many earth magic concoctions."

She left the building without waiting for a response.

Jonas stared after her, stunned. "She means to heal me with cow dung."

Lysandra patted his good arm. "And you're going to let her."

EDIT 1/1/16

I loved reading this (and OMG MAGNEO CANON YASSS) but unlike the other books, it didn't feel like there was a definite goal in this one. It felt more like a bunch of events that could have been a buildup to an actual goal, like defeating Limeros in book one or finding the Kindred in book 3. However, I still enjoyed this one and I still absolutely love the characters of this series. They've all developed very well and they feel like real people.

Cleo is legit so in control of her life i can't even.

I'm so sad for Jonas because no one deserves to have that much bad luck.

Magnus is my baby. Everyone wants to kill him but he's actually such a cutie and people jUST DON'T SEE THAT.

Lucia...had some serious character development, let's just say. Her growth is believable though, and she's a much more complex character than she was.

Lysandra deserves better.

Bless Nic because bisexual representation and he's a pretty good character.

ASHUR

i should not care as much as I do for Amara.

And why does Morgan Rhodes have to make me care so much about Amara Cortas when i should hate her?

AND MAGNEOOOOOO FINALLYYYYYY YASSSSSSSS I SHIP VERY MUCH

Anyway

Clara out

Morgan Rhodes, you never disappoint.

I thought nothing could dethrone Rebel Spring, but Frozen Tides proved me wrong. This book is everything I needed and more.

As per usual, this novel doesn’t shy away from Falling Kingdoms’ edgy premise. From its rich and detail world building, bloody politics, conspiracy, rebellion, romance, the portrayal of justice, and how there is an ocean difference when it comes to monstrosity and beauty.

Frozen Tides opens up where Gathering Darkness wrapped it off. Cleo and Magnus is in shambles after what transpired in the temple. They are guilty of treason – of opposing the King of Blood. While, Jonas and Lucia is in pursuit to hunt the ambiguous Kindreds.

Frozen Tides is by far the best installment of Falling Kingdoms. It is radical and progressive by all accounts.

Rhodes’ added two point of view to our usual four key players, Felix and Amara. Compared to its predecessor’s line up, I find the additional chapters, much engrossing to read. It’s very clear their part has a vital contribution to the plot. Of course, it is only natural that I would favor my beloveds.

For everyone who was disappointed with the turn of events in Gathering Darkness, you will be pleased to read Frozen Tides. Some of the plot holes were addressed in this book. This book also explore the vast, rich nation that is completely out of Mytica’s border. Readers will get the chance to see the distinct contrast between Mytica and its outsiders.

While, I love the calculated political aspect of Frozen Tides. I have to admit, the best element of this series will always be its characters, most importantly my favorite bunch, Magnus, Cleo and Jonas.

Like most of Falling Kingdoms’ predecessors, Rhodes didn’t set the romance to take reign of the plot. There is just an ample amount of Magnus and Cleo’s interaction. Though, I horribly wish there is more. But, if you are a Magneo shipper, you still wouldn’t be disappointed. One thing is guaranteed, Morgan Rhodes is the queen of writing angst.

What really happened in this book tbh:

Here’s a snippet of my favorite scene.

He sighed aloud. “Why do I both to speak with you at all? We’ll never see eye to eye on any subject.”

“Perhaps it’s because you have no one else to talk to?”

The insult landed with a sting that he didn’t expect. A muscle in his scarred right cheek twitched. “How true. No one knows me like you do, princess.”

She looked at him with a furrowed brow. “That was unkind of me to say.”

“The truth is never unkind, princess. It’s liberating. Now, if you’ll excuse me.” Magnus turned and walked away from her before she could reply.

We need to see more proud bisexual characters in any form of genre. I am virtually tipping my hat right now.

“All I know is I’ve never felt that way, ever, for ….” His jaw tightened. “I don’t know Cleo. I can’t explain it, not even to myself. I’ve liked girls all my life, and I know I haven’t only been fooling myself. Girls are pretty and soft and… amazing. What I felt for you, especially for you.. that wasn’t fake or lie. I told myself. It was real. But with the prince…. I don’t know what to think. It’s not as if I’ve undergone some massive change and now want to kiss every boy that crosses my path.”

“But you liked him. Perhaps more than liked him.”

He rubbed his hand through his short red hair. “I barely knew him, Cleo. But… what I’d begun to feel, it…. Didn’t feel wrong.”

The only thing I didn’t liked about this book is that the new villain is a character of color. It doesn’t bode well with the lack of racial representation. But, I'm glad there's an additional heroic character of color to balance things out.

Though, overall Frozen Tides deftly set up another bunch of knots to untie in the follow up sequel. I’m thoroughly excited to see where is Rhodes’s head at. Falling Kingdoms is a high fantasy series, you should be tuning in.

This book honestly annoyed me to no end. But I'm assuming that was the goal that Morgan Rhodes was trying to achieve so therefore, Frozen Kingdoms did its job well lol.

So much happened in this book but all I remember is:

MAGNEO
MAGNEO
MAGNEO
MAGNEO
MAGNEO

And yet, it's still not enough MAGNEO.

But other than that, all I have to say is that as much as I enjoyed this book, Gathering Darkness is still my favorite book in the series thus far. However, Frozen Tides was every bit as exciting as I thought it would be and the long wait surely paid off in the end.

If you loved the previous books, then you will definitely enjoy this one as well because aside from the boring POVs we have to endure, Frozen Tides is every bit as action packed that you could hope for with a sprinkle of plot twist here and there.

I'm hoping that the next book and the last are going to be longer than the previous books because I want MORE! Morgan has a lot of explaining to do lol!

P.S. SHOOT ME NOW BECAUSE THIS MEANS I ALREADY HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER YEAR FOR THE NEXT BOOK.

DON'T DO THIS TO ME.

** 5 "I'M IN BLISS, THIS WAS AMAZING" stars !! **

description

Well, I guess it’s settled, Frozen Tides has become my favorite book in the series now ! It was everything I could have expected after the awesomeness that had been Gathering Darkness !

I loved that the world was expanded and that we got to meet the Emperor of Kraeshia as well as his Empire and his family. The intrigue in this book was amazing, thrilling, exciting, addictive, full of ACTION and TWISTS and PLOTS and ALLIANCES and REVENGE and LOVE and MAGIC !! Honestly, I never got once bored while reading it, explaining why and how I absolutely could not put it down and ended up reading it in a day ^^ ! There was ALWAYS something happening, with the characters moving a lot through Mytica as well as Kraeshia. In this one, every character had a precise goal and each was finally doing something to reach it ! It’s like there was no time to take a breath, because too many thrilling things were happening, all the characters were mixed and then separated, they would form alliances and then tbreak them, it was gripping !!

One thing I think makes this series so specialand intriguing and epic is the fact that there are a lot of different protagonists, some that we have since book 1 and others who appear later on ! This book is full of many different points of view which allows the story to move quickly and in every direction, with sometimes characters that will meet, or characters’ stories that join with others’.

As for the characters, CLEO and MAGNUS definitely remain my most favorite !
Cleo has grown so much since book 1 : she has become so brave, fierce, smart, ingenious and stubborn, never letting Magnus or the King or anyone else reduce her to nothing and bring her down. I especially loved her in this one, where she finally shows her strengths both in strategy and defence. I also adore how she always stands up to Magnus, never letting him ruin her, and how despite everything, she still believes in him.
As for Magnus, I still love his moody and brooding personality, how he constantly struggles with his feelings and thoughts, not knowing for sure if he is or will be just like his evil father but also not wanting to get hurt by other people meaning that he always pushes them away by being mean. He has been such a complex character since book 1, always intriguing and oscillating between evil and goodness, but deep down, there’s only a young man who never really got to be a boy and who secretly only wishes to be loved and cared about no matter what.
And SWEET BABY ALIENS EVERYWHERE !! Magnus and Cleo really need to be together, I ship them to NO end !! When I got in this book, one of my biggest expectations was MAGNEO finally happening, and though it was very slow coming, with a lot of frustrating tension between them through most of the book, it finally happened and my heart just exploded with sparks and butterflies, and I was like “YES ! YES ! FINALLY !” It was so perfect and beautiful !
description

Jonas and Lucia have never really been my favorite characters in the series.
Jonas never made me feel anything special since book 1, I was always a bit indifferent regarding his character, I thought he was a bit useless and didn’t bring anything important to the story except always longing for Cleo ! But I have to stay that he grew quite a lot on me in this one, I thought he was more mature and useful, trying to understand and accept his mistakes and failures, and trying to redeem himself and move forward and do the right thing. For once, I really liked his chapters !
I came to really dislike Lucia in book 3 for obvious reasons, and honestly, she didn’t really grew on me in book 4. I actually thought that her chapters were the ones I was not looking forward to reading because they were a bit boring, with not much happening. For short, I just dislike her, how selfish and self-centred she is, how she doesn’t care about anyone. She came to her senses a little by the end, but it’s not enough for me to start really liking her.

Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the two new characters : Felix and Amara.
We were already introduced to Felix in book 3 but I didn’t really know how to feel about him, but I found myself really liking him in book 4. He is the easy going kind of guy, cocky and funny, but a fierce and badass assassin at the same time.
As for Amara, even if she’s quite evil, I actually really liked her, how she’s in command, how she takes things in her own hands to get what she wants. She’s evil, but I still admire her strength and will.

In the end, this book was FANTASTIC and book 5 seems so far away !!

If you hear someone screaming it's me from all the fucking FEELS.
Once again, Morgan Rhodes has left me speechless. Frozen tides absolutely EXCEEDED my expectations.
Frozen tides starts off right where Gathering Darkness left off. Amara has sailed off to Kraeshia with the water kindred, leaving Magnus, Cleo, and Nic behind in the destruction of the events that went down.
We get a couple of new POV's because, the more the merrier, right? Which is fine because it's essential to the plot of the story. Speaking of which, boy was it filled with plot twist after twist, after twist. So many gasp worthy moments happened with revelations that left me breathless. I can't divulge into much detail due to all the spoilers but believe me, you won't be ready for all that's to come.
I was deeply impressed with the expansion of the world building and major character development. We're introduced to the Kreshian Empire, across the silver sea. And let me tell you, it is insane. Especially culture-wise. I couldn't believe my own eyes when I read that it was acceptable to try and drown your child if it was born as female and not a male. Also, woman are disrespected and disregard like rag dolls. Men are ALLOWED to beat their woman to point of near death and its justifiable to murder them under special circumstances. What fresh hell is this?
Getting to know more about what's beyond the borders of Mytica and roaming into Kraeshia was intriguing.
Now as for the characters, I care very deeply for mostly all of them and love reading every characters POV, except Jonas. Surprisingly, I don't have a single care in the world for Jonas. All the decisions and stubbornness just don't sit well with me. Another character whom my patience is starting to wear thin with, is Nicolo. I love Nic and I love the hige character development he's globe through. But I'm starting to really detest the way he hated Magnus so much and will do whatever it takes to dethrone him and possibly kill him.
Lucia has grown so very much on me. In Gathering Darkness we got to see her begin to become a much darker character, in Frozen Tides we see just how Cruel she's become alongside of the Fire God and how she will stop at nothing seek vengeance against all those who used and betrayed her. Including loved ones.
Amara is my woman. I swear to god if I were a character in this series, I would be her. She's absolutely ruthless, smart and cunning, and doesn't hesitate to take whatever she wants, when she wants, no matter the cost. She's capable of making sacrifices she believes are essential to her path towards becoming empress of all Kraeshia.
And Felix, my pretty beast, my heart, my poor wretched old heart broke for him.
Lastly, MAGNEO.
IT HAPPENED.
MY SHIP LANDED.
So much happened between Magnus and Cleo, throughout the course of the book I swooned, cried out of frustration, screamed, and lastly cried of pure joy. Magnus and Cleo are the reason my heart flip flops and tries to brake out of my chest. I love my precious vulnerable Magnus and I couldn't ask for a better fictional boyfriend.
Now about that ending, REALLY MORGAN? SO YOU'RE JUST GOING TO END THE BOOK LIKE THAT KNOWING WE HAVE TO WAIT A WHOLE 12 MONTHS FOR BOOKS 5??? JESUS WOMEN YOU'RE GIVING ME ANXIETY. NOT TO MENTION A HEART ATTACK OR TWELVE.
12 whole freaking months. What kind of hell is this? How will i survive the dark lands that long without Magnus!
In conclusion, Frozen Tides was one of hell of a plot twist filled, emotionally damaging, and deceiving continuation of the Falling Kingdoms Saga. So buckle up and get ready the best roller coaster ride of your life.

Alright.

4.5 stars. Okay, confession? I always feel a little stupid when I've been ignoring books for months only to discover that actually, GOD, I WANT MORE. When I expressed the need to escape - which I haven't been able to do since September, if I'm being honest - my dear friend Chelsea suggested I started this series, that she recommended me *cough* months ago *cough* (I am truly an awful friend, alright). THANK YOU.

And as expected, I was rather unimpressed by the blatant similarities between these and GoT, not to mention some severely ridiculous "romances" that made me roll my eyes something fierce. I mean - LMAO. I legit burst of laughing at some declarations. I was also annoyed at the numerous references to tans to describe characters' skins. God, for crying out loud, if your characters are black, fucking tell it, descriptions aren't riddles. I would have done without the word "savage" as well - it was not used to describe POC characters, but it still rubbed me the wrong way.

Yet the first books were addictive, and I really liked both Magnus and Cleo, our fierce, feisty and stubborn main characters. Okay, I loved Magnus, that little shit - and Cleo surprised me a great deal because she reminded me of Raisa from the Seven Realms series and despite the hate she received? I love this girl. One character doesn't need to know how to fight to be badass.

So I went on.

And now I needed to tell you that color me fucking baffled, but I am very much in love with this book - the characters dynamics, the plot, MAGNUS, the humor - I have to say that I might be weird because what I find funny would perhaps not make you laugh (I warned you!), CLEO - I loved everything.

I can't express enough how I adore the way the story is unfolding - in all the different arcs.

1) First, MAGNUS IS LIFE OKAY. I mean, just looking at my quotes made me laugh despairingly... Here's a tip : there is a pattern XD

(Full disclosure : I have quotes from other characters of course, but I found these pages ... very telling, LMAO)

Might I be obsessed? Hmmm. Maybe. Really though : he was my favorite character from the very first moment I started this series, but he keeps getting better and better, and now I don't know what to say except I love his sarcastic ass? I love that his attraction to Cleo doesn't revolve around the fact that she's beautiful, but rather because she's scheming and stubborn and brave. YES. WANT.

Magnus and Cleo are EVERYTHING. Fight me on this.

2) Cleo's growth and evolution is just so fucking satisfying. Give me more princesses like her in YA, ready to do everything to get what they want.

3) Amara is a cunning little bitch who surprised me in the best way possible. She's arrogant and so very lethal, I can't stop giggling.

4) With Kyan's apparition, Lucia's arc FINALLY awoke my interest. I'm still low-key rolling my eyes at how easily she mastered her powers, but yes, I want to know where her story will go too, and I stopped grumbling every time I saw her name appear.

5) Jonas... is perhaps the character whose story I'm the less involved with, but we're slowly getting there. There's definitely potential.

6) I read it in other reviews, but that's so true : I love that we never know if a character is going to die. This is so refreshing in YA!

Bottom line : I WAS SURPRISED. THANK YOU. When you read a lot of fantasy novels, they start blending together so much that you just know where the story will go. Truthfully, the first novels of this series were so derivative that I thought I knew where Morgan Rhodes would go, but... I was wrong?

(Emily, I'm sorry? XD)

Re-read, part four, with Alison!

Another cliffhanger ending? Gah ok. Anyway, four books down...two to go. This series is just so addicting and I CANNOT STOP READING.

Chapter 31 is the best chapter that Morgan Rhodes has ever written. Full stop. MAGNEO IS SAILING, MY FELLOW SHIPPERS!!!
June 27, 2016

She raised her brow. "Thank me? Am I dreaming?"
"Don't worry. I'm sure it won't happen again anytime soon." Magnus drew even closer to her, and her smile faded at the edges.
"Was there something else you wanted from me?" she asked.
If only you knew, he thought. You'd probably run away from here and never look back.

There's something to be said about less is more...and perhaps I should just leave my ridiculously weird pre-review as my main review. However, it just doesn't feel right to not talk about my favorite book of the series, yet. Sure, I've had butterflies and endless feels-all when it came to Magnus. I might have even became a little obsessed with him (COUGH a lot). But nothing-and I do mean NOTHING-has come close to how I felt during the last 20% of this book. NOTHING.

Magnus just stared at her, unsure if he was impressed or horrified by this poisonous tirade escaping the petite blond.
No, he was impressed. Very impressed and very happy.

 photo tumblr_o85k5nGH1y1v4t3dao2_500_zpsohqg4a2t.gif

Think about it-we have all been waiting for our dear stubborn enemies to finally unite...and you start to hear things about each new installment as you near it. Just wait! and It's coming! or OMG I can't wait until you get to THIS part! And, normally, I must say that these claims ruin what should be a normally pleasant surprise. Hype is a dangerous thing-Too many times I've grasped onto a shred of what people are saying and been let down when it doesn't exceed my expectations or is underwhelming compared to people's claims. But here, just this once.....the hype did not even begin to justify the choking and loss of breath I felt when certain things transpired.

Cleo wasn't a romantic fool, a silly girl who believed a villain could become a shining hero overnight, even if he had saved her life once. She was a queen, who would reclaim her throne and destroy her enemies-all of them-once she possessed the magic and power she needed.

 photo 7912860_zpsrsdb7ueg.gif

My heart broke so much in this book that I really thought I was going to have a mental breakdown. I mean, how many fucking times can we watch these two scratch, claw, belittle, and circle each other. You could cut the sexual tension with a knife. But more than once my heart would shatter, slowly piece back together again....and then shatter into oblivion for the millionth time. This cat and mouse game Morgan Rhodes has created is something else, and I haven't felt this desperate in a long long time.

Magnus wasn't any different than the king. He, too, was afraid of the princess. Her spirit was so bright, he'd been blinded by it.
And yet, he'd never wanted to close his eyes to block out that light.

 photo tumblr_o5spfoPMo11udi1ozo4_500_zpsnhpyvcq9.gif

And I do adore Magnus, he is literally my EVERYTHING when it comes to this series...So I guess that's why it was all the more painful to see his inner turmoil and dark struggles in this book. He is a shell of a boy who only wants to belong, to be loved-Not that he'd let that show to anyone, least of all Cleo. He is cruel and hurtful and pushes away those who try to be close to him....and he is so slow to trust. It's almost comical how blind he is. But then we see those assholes who are just plain...well....assholes to him and it made me see red. You. Don't. Fuck. With. My. Magduck. YOU DO NOT.

We all know Magnus harbored questionable (cough) feelings toward his sister, Lucia, that are now just strong ties of memories, estranged friendship, and a sad wish to still be as close as they used to be as children-telling one another everything and watching each other's backs. His internal pain as Lucia continues her path to being the biggest and most laughable moron of the series killed me inside, because she was all he had and now he [thinks he] has no one. I could go on. And on. And ON about this bitch....but I'll just say this: That little trollop better watch her back or I'll stab it. Here's hoping the only main character death belongs to Lucia, because I'd even hate to see Jonas die...but if we're choosing who lives and dies.....

OOPS.

NOT REALLY.

I don't love long series because they scare me-more room to mess up ships, to kill people, to elongate a story that need not be elongated. But it seems that each new installment makes the villains more evil (or multiply), the story much thicker, and broadens an already far reaching world. It seems Rhodes has a direction she's going and is pacing it pretty epically (it's a word, look it up in the Chelsea dictionary), and I've yet to be bored by the story. And probably my favorite part (BESIDES YOU KNOW WHAT) is that she doesn't change plots in each new book. Each story has a fluidity about it that continues what we were reading before without making it complicated by adding one hundred new reasons we needed said story. It just...exists. The story has flowed from book one on, adding mayhem and dirty dealings with a grace that makes it all the more dramatic-Subtlety is a specialty I've grown to admire from these YA fantasy authors, and it's not often I see it.

 photo tumblr_static__640_v2_zpssgc2r7yl.gif

There is so much more I could say, but like with all popular long series, it's nothing that hasn't been said before, so why say it again? This is by far my favorite book in the series and I have high hopes that the extreme feels I felt in this one will only continue. I have now seen book 5's cover (OMG I CAN'T EVEN) and seen the synopsis. My only response for what's to come?

I.

NEED.

THAT.

BOOK.

NOW.

That is all.

NO ONE IS SAFE.

description

I've said that before and yet Rhodes keeps getting me because I think that certain characters must be safe. They must play a longer/larger role in this series. And I'm wrong. I just have no idea how this is going to play out.
Now we've got twins and someone who might be back from the dead?!
I don't know what's going on here but it's a glorious soap opera!

description

And speaking of soap opera...
There's a bit too much when it comes to the romance(s). I mean, these characters are all swapping around so much that at times it seems everyone is falling for everyone at the same time. It. is. ridiculous.

description

But with the rest of the plot twisting and turning like crazy, I feel like it's a decent tradeoff.
And that's why, even with the complaints, I have to know how all of this is going to turn out.
I'm in.

(Barely) 4 War over the Mytican throne ★'s

“If every mortal looked at others as their friends, not as their enemies, the world would be a much better place, wouldn’t it?”

“Because if you don't choose to fight against the wrong in the world, then you are the wrong in the world.”

↓↓↓ Little spoilers may ensue ↓↓↓

"Frozen Tide" thank goodness was better than the last two I read in this series. Not a whole lot better but better non the less! I really have a disconnect when it comes to the characters in these books :( When bad things happen and we loose certain characters, I should feel something right? Like, I should miss them and I should feel there loss but sadly I don't. I don't miss the characters or even get emotional over there losses. This is a very unfortunate fact!! I mean what does it say about this series that I have yet to "feel" anything real when it comes to a death of a character? I also still don't like the relationship building, I honestly don't expect this to change and I need move past it! Other than the same things I don't like over and over again in all the books thus far one thing has stayed true, I love Princess Cleo. She has been my favorite from the very beginning :D Shes smart, kind, brave, strong, sharped tongued and beautiful inside and out. She has such a strong will and even after everything the girl has been through her heart is still golden! Cleo sees the good in people, she sees the good in Magnus even though he tries so hard to keep it concealed so that he comes across as heartless and merciless. I have come to like Magnus much more in this book but he has a ways to go before I use the "L" word to describe my feelings for him. Even though the relationship building sucks, I do like Cleo and Magnus as a couple. Hell they might as well be they are married and there's no getting around that! Aside from that they'd be the perfect power couple and they push each other out of their comfort zones. But yes...finally Magnus Damora is growing on me! The rest of the characters are okay. I think maybe there are to many for Morgan Rhodes to do them all justice? I want more of Cleo's POV and a lot less of everyone else's! I am still enjoying the world and the world building, the plot and a few of the main characters. I would like more action and less of the slow pace the first half of the books in the Falling Kingdoms series takes. 4 books down and 2 more to go, Moving on to Crystal Storm :D

*Another beautiful cover in this series!*

There was love lost
“I’m in love with you, you stupid arse, and I’m not losing you. Got it?” she whispered against his lips before kissing him again. Her confession had stolen his breath, so all he could do was nod.”

“He suddenly couldn't take his gaze off her, this fierce, stunning warrior who'd stood by him every step of the way. This remarkable girl who'd told him she loved him.”

Do you have any idea how much I love you, Lysandra Barbas?
“What?” She blinked. “You love me?”
“Yes”
“And what about Cleo?”
He grinned “Cleo who?”

•••

And... There was love gained
“What our hearts want can overtake what our minds tell us is forbidden to us. We can’t control these feelings, even if we desperately wish we could.”

“She was his princess. No. She was his goddess. With her golden skin and golden hair. She was his light. His life. His everything.
He loved her more than anything else in this world.”

“If you don’t choose to fight against the wrong in the world, then you are the wrong in the world.”

Every time I pick up a book in this series the story grabs me by the throat on the first page and refuses to loosen its grip until the last, leaving me gasping for breath. Frozen Tides was no exception. The prose is slicker than water, the words flow with such ease I found myself swept away by the story and utterly immersed in the world.

I have always loved multiple POV fantasy novels and Rhodes really excels at writing this type of story structure. Each character’s individual journey surges forward at breakneck speed and their stories collide at just the right intervals for maximum impact.

The characters themselves continue to evolve remarkably amid the mire of political warfare. Each one as ruthless, cunning and resourceful as the other. Though not without their own unique quirks. I loved reading about Magnus’ sadistic sense of humour, Cleo’s simmering thirst for vengence, Jonas’s fierce sense of loyalty and Lucia’s torment and broken naiveté. The capacity each character holds to provoke and antagonise the others makes for some truly explosive scenes when their operate agendas clash.

The romances were handled with a masterful stroke. The angst and tension simmers in the background throughout the majority of the book, never overshadowing or distracting from the main plot. Occasionally it boils over and oh my does it sear the page and the reader’s heart when that happens!

The author continues to layer her world with a myriad of breathtaking sights and settings, both new and old, as well as unfolding more of the mythology that makes the kingdom of Mytica so fascinating to me.

This was yet another fantastic instalment in a series I have yet to see take a misstep. Consider me utterly addicted.

If every mortal looked at others as their friends, not as their enemies, the world would be a much better place, wouldn’t it?
Finally!! Magnus has shown he is not a person he pretends to be. No more masks from now! G.R.E.A.T!

=> In this book, I loved Magnus! And of course, Jonas too. Now I love them both equally. They both are amazing in their own way. For me at least.

=> Cleo played an amazing role in this book. I really liked how fluently she lied at everything. Really! I didn't consider it a bad deed because I understood her reasons.

=> Lucia. I was expecting more from her. Unfortunately, she didn't play out well in this book. She and Kyan, the fire Kindred, were just wandering to find a gateway to the Sanctuary. To kill the last elder who could imprison Kyan again. But finally when they succeeded in finding a gateway, Lucia came to know his true and dark motives.
Really! Everyone! Literally EVERY single being is trying to use her for his own gain. There was a time when I liked this fact. But this is too much now.
Anyway, I am very curious to know what she will be facing in Crystal City.

=> I knew this would happen! I knew but I always tried to deny this! Why, Mrs Rhodes?!! Why you did this to Lysandra?! Jonas and she were soo great together. I can't forget this death. This is way too much for me.
Now I am assuming what the author is planning to do. It seems she wants to unite Jonas and Lucia. If this is what I am going to get further in the series, I don't think I will be liking this.

=> Now we are getting, Taran. Theon's twin brother. What the heck is this! After three books! Out of thin air, appears Taran!! I can't like this too. Because FINALLY Cleo and Magnus have united. Now I don't want any unnecessary trouble for Magnus. He already has a HUGE one to encounter in the next book.

=> Amara. She is such an evil-minded character. She is a pretty good antagonist. I couldn't believe when all of a sudden, she killed her entire family. Sometimes I think how can one become soo ruthless to kill his own family member without a second thought for the god-damn power? This thing reminds me of a line written on the cover of Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. "POWER IS A DANGEROUS GAME". I am beginning to believe it ever since I started this series.

=> I liked the Kraeshian words Dhosha for granddaughter and Madhosha for grandmother. They sound soo good.

=> King Gaius. I will be more than happy when he will be killed once and for all. But after revealing that why he spoke Cleo's mother name before going to unconscious state? I have speculations, but Looking forward to the confirmation.

=> Kindred are becoming more interesting than ever before. The fact that they are actually beings not ordinary orbs is interesting. Looking forward to more on them.

=> Prince Ashur. What the heck about him now?! Please don't tell me it's reincarnation. Looking forward to it anyway.

Overall, like previous books, this book was enjoyable. Now there is one more book. Let's face it!
"Wonderful. We have a ship full of vengeance-seekers headed back with us."--Jonas

This series is one of those type of books that make it impossible to explain what actually happened and how I felt about. Let me just tell you that I'm in love with this series and completely obsessed with it. I can't seem to put these books down and I'm always itching to find out what happens next.

I'm actually so sad that I have to wait for my copy of Crystal Storm to arrived. I'm so not ready to leave this world for longer than a few days. Also, how will I cope with a whole year before the epic conclusion next December?! I hate myself for getting caught up so quickly!!!

The last 40% of this book was incredible, however the first 60% was a bit slow paced. This cover is my absolute favourite, even though I grew to loathe this particular character. There will be some spoilers in this review but I'll try my best to mark the big ones - general ones such as ships will not be marked so BEWARE.

There was a certain event that occurred in this book that left me feeling a bit meh.

Magnus and Cleo will forever remain my favourite characters in this book so I'm beyond ecstatic that they are a ship. I will go down with the Magneo ship and no one can stop me.
If you want a sum up of this ship:

"Sometimes I think you make it your daily task to confuse me."
"The feeling is entirely mutual, princess."

LITERALLY THEY ARE SO CONFUSING AND SO BACK AND FORTH AND I NEED THEM TO SHUT UP AND JUST LOVE EACH OTHER UNCONDITIONALLY ALREADY.

"He didn't deserve her; he knew he didn't. He was the Prince of Blood, the son of a monster, who said and did cruel things. Who preemptively leapt to hurt anyone before they could hurt him first. But he would show her that he would change. Magnus could change for her."

Honestly there's something about the 'enemies to lovers' love story that makes me ship it so hard it hurts. I just need them to be happy okay

Jonas is a hot mess and I don't even know where to begin to talk about him. I definitely grew to like him a lot more in this one. I've always liked him as a characters but he's been so irrational in the past 3 books and I think he's starting to find his chill.

LUCIA WHAT THE FUCK HAS BEEN GOING ON WITH YOU GIRLFRIEND?! I really liked Lucia but damn she's a bitch for a lot of this book. I went from loving her to hating her and now I'm back to liking her again. She want through a lot in this book and damn I feel for her.

The King is a prick and

I'M JUST SO HAPPY BECAUSE I CAN FINALLY READ THE BLURB OF BOOK 5 BECAUSE I WAS TOLD I WASN'T ALLOWED TO READ IT SINCE THERE WERE BIG SPOILERS IN IT.

I say this every time, but READ THIS BOOK. Read this series. Don't talk to me unless you do.

---
“If every mortal looked at others as their friends, not as their enemies, the world would be a much better place, wouldn’t it?”

This series just keeps getting better and better! This is, without a doubt, my favorite book in the series.

A high-stakes, action-packed journey filled with secrets, betrayal, hate, love, forgiveness and redemption.

This story just keeps building and building, and just when you think it has finally reached it's climax another twist gets thrown into the mix. And the relationships? They are literally all over the place. Everyone, everything, is connected. There is no doubt that our characters will continue to be faced with endless challenges and forced to make difficult decisions. Which one leaves us to wonder, what will they chooses? And who will survive to see the end of this war?

On a happier note:
Magnus & Cleo!!!
“I love you, Cleo,” he said, the words finally coming to him, with no effort at all because of how true they were. “I love you so much it hurts.”
Her eyes widened. “What did you just say?”
Magnus almost laughed. “I think you heard me right.”
---
He didn't deserve her; he knew didn't. He was the Prince of Blood, the son of a monster, who said and did cruel things. Who preemptively leapt to hurt anyone before they could hurt him first.
But he would show her that he could change.
Magnus could change for her.
She was his princess. No. She was his goddess. With her golden skin and golden hair. She was his light. His life. His everything.
He loved her more than anything else in this world.

I ship these two so much! It is so strange because honestly their relationship has often been so terribly frustrating. Both of them spent so much time constantly denying their feelings for each other, clinging to their masks and pushing each other away. But at long last it seems progress has finally been made. In reality, I am not sure I'd be able to cheer on such a volatile relationship. These two are like fire and ice, a tornado and a volcano. It should not work, but it does.

Bonus content, Magnus being the Prince of Sass:
"You're not wearing a cloak. You'll freeze to death out here."
"Would you like that? Very sorry to disappoint you, but I'll be fine. Perhaps it's my cold, black heart that makes all the difference?"
---
"For now. But you should remember that charm opens far more doors than harsh words do."
"And a sharp ax will open every door."

Relationship Roadmap (events are not listed in any particular order)
Alrighty, here we go!

I think what makes this book the strongest among the bunch is that it finally connecting the dots between all the characters and plot points. People have finally showed their true selves, and now it's just matter of what all their decisions up until this point will mean for their futures and the futures of those around them. I also like the pacing in this book a lot better. There is always something of consequence happening, moving the narrative along at a steady pace.

All-in-all a highly entertaining read.

This series is so addictive! It's hard to believe but it keeps getting better with each book. And it's not over yet! We have two more books to read and probably a shit ton of emotion to go through! There are so many revelations at the end of this one, I am still reeling from everything that happened.

We have a few different POVs in this book and I really liked it, it was nice to see what was happening in Felix's and Amara's heads (even though I hate Amara, she's a character I love to hate). The author probably introduces many new characters in each book just so she can pick who to kill after though... The lifespan of love interests and characters in general in this series is rather short.

Frozen Tides happens on the continent of Mythica, but also in the Kraeshian empire, and I loved this world-building extension. I also really liked to see more of Magnus' homeland and to see Magnus get more confident as he claims his place in his castle.

“What our hearts want can overtake what our minds tell us is forbidden to us. We can’t control these feelings, even if we desperately wish we could.”

The romance continues to progress, and there is also sexual tension between Cleo and Magnus, and their angsty hate-love relationship it is perfection. They went through so much since the first book, and they continue to go through many twists and turns, and it's AWESOME. I love them both, but I love them even more together.

Lucia... She was tolerable in the first books, but now I dislike her... A lot... She's an annoying and spoiled brat who thinks she's entitled to whatever she feels she deserves because she's the sorceress. She's SO dumb and annoying, but I kind of pity her at the same time... Only a tiny little bit though.

As for Jonas, well I like him, but he's definitely not my favorite character in this series... He still feels clueless and useless overall. It does also seem that he can't refrain from falling in love whenever he meets a pretty lady..? 😅

This damn beautiful book kept me up the whole night. I could not stop reading. *points at characters* You will kill me one day, you know that, right?
And now I have to wait until December 13?!?!?!?! ARE YOU SERIOUS???????? I need more moooore MOOOOOOORE!!!!! This book man, I can't even begin to describe the things I've felt while reading. And that ending... Like, SHIT??? This is gonna hurt a great deal because Nic and I just no -_- Gimme the fifth book NOW *makes grabby hands*

Can we pls take a moment to appreciate Felix Graebas? This guy has gone through remarkable character development over the course of only two (!!!) books which is absolutely amazing. What they were doing to him throughout Frozen Tides though...I have no words. Most of the time I wanted to pull him out of there and give him a big hug. If they kill Felix off, I'll quit I swear to god!

Cleo is on the best way to become one of my favorite female characters of all time. She's smart, she's cunning, she's a badass queen!

Magnus. Do I even need to explain myself? I thought so :D
Magnus Damora is now officially the first character to catch up to Dorian Havilliard. And catching up to HIM is nearly impossible. But he has for me and I will love him forever. My smol, grumpy, good hearted cinnamon roll. ♥
