Fighting Connollys #2

In Jack's Arms

Rate this book
When pawn broker Abby Kirkwood discovers the evidence of a chilling drug cartel hit on one of the video cameras hocked in her store, she turns to the only man she can trust—Jack Connolly.

The smolderingly sexy former Marine runs a successful gym down the street and coaches her brother's special needs baseball team. He's the one man who is always there when she needs him. If anyone can protect her family, it's commanding, capable Jack.

The moment he learns someone is threatening Abby and her brother, Jack sees red. To save the woman he's secretly loved for years, he'll do whatever it takes, even if it means facing off with a Mexican drug cartel and making deals with the same Albanian mob outfit that tried to ruin his family.

He finally has sweet, feisty Abby right where she was always meant to be—writhing with pleasure in his bed and safely sheltered in his arms. The vicious cartel assassin hot on her heels has no idea what he's up against.

The Connolly brothers are standing strong together—and no one touches their family.

When I’m not chasing after my wild preschooler, I like to write super sexy romances and scorching hot erotica. I live in Texas with a husband who could easily snag a job as an extra on History Channel’s new Viking series, a sweet but rowdy three-year-old with Tetralogy of Fallot, and Bosley, our Great Dane with major mommy issues.

I also have another dirty-book writing alter ego, Lolita Lopez, who writes deliciously steamy tales for Ellora’s Cave, Forever Yours/Grand Central, Mischief/Harper Collins UK, Siren Publishing and Cleis Press.

Eri davvero giovane, Abby.

— So badare a me stesso, Abby.

― Certo. ― A breve? Deglutii a fatica. Mi stava davvero chiedendo quello che pensavo io? ― Dipende. ― Dipende da me?

I'm happy to say I enjoyed this one way more then the first book of this spin off. In here we get more alpha goodness with the Connolly brothers but Jack is much more laid back and less apt to rush to judgement then his brother, Kelly. A sexy hot romance suspense that brings in characters from Rivera's Russian Protector series so word of advice-read that series first or you may get confused. The romance was nice but mild and a bit rushed compared to the other books. I also felt the smexy times were more racy then actually erotic. The suspense aspects were interesting and advances plots lines form the main series. I do believe this series relays a little too much on the Russian series and would have enjoyed more time spent on building the Connolly's into a stand alone.

Short, quick, lots of characters but still ok.,
I enjoyed this read more than the previous book about Kelly. I felt this was more in the world of Jack and Abby, of course with all the villains thrown in, but even so, this couple stood out and it was interesting because of this. What I really found interesting was that the heroine was a pawn-broker, and this was what she wanted to do with the rest of her life. I found this very intriguing for some reason because I don't think I have ever read this before. And she knows her business too, which was doubly amazing to me. Loved that this romance was about regular folks and of course the underworld plays a big part.

I am a huge fan of Roxie Rivera. Particularly her Russian Protectors. While I loved her world building/character building in those books, I'm kinda not feeling it with the Fighting Connollys. This is the 2nd one I wasn't too thrilled with.
There is a lot of lay over - you know, it's all the same world, Russian Protectors and Connollys - they all know each other and have the same problems and run-ins with others around them.
I felt like it was too much going on. So much that it distracted me from the relationship building of Jack and Abby. I felt like that got put on the back burner because things were so good with them, it was more about what was going on around them.
Rivera was setting up for the future books/problems that the characters will run into next and poor Jack and Abby just got ignored (or that's how I felt).
I found myself skimming just to get it over with.
I hated that I did that, but there was only so much back and forth and details of the going-ons with the mafia/gang/mc club/who ever else wanted to fight, that I could take.
At one point *snorts* I actually pictured the scene from Anchorman (1 or 2, take your pick), the one where EVERYONE shows up to the fight and no one, even the reader/viewer, knew exactly what was going on, but just that they wanted to be a part of it. LOL, I cracked myself up at that.
But see - that's all I could get from it. Just the occasional love scene but with all this other stuff mixed in.
I dunno and maybe in reading this, you don't know what the heck I'm talking about either.
In the end, all I can say is I would recommend this book and this series, but definitely not as much as I would Her Russian Protector. That series is so much better. This makes me really sad too, because the idea of these guys is TOTALLY HOT. It just doesn't have the same electric-ness as her other series.

...I kept thinking about you, about your smile and your sweetness, and I just..." His voice trailed off to nothing. "I knew, Abby."

Feeling lightheaded, I asked, "You knew what, Jack?"

"That it was you. That it was always going to be you."

I liked In Jack's Arms more than In Kelly's Corner but I'm just not sure I like the Fighting Connollys series as much as I like Her Russian Protectors. That being said, I'm still a fan of this cross-over series and can't wait to read Finn's story that should be released soon. I would definitelly recommend reading at least the first book in this series (if not some of the My Russian Protector series) before jumping into this book. Even after reading all of the books, the second half of In Jack's Arms got a little confusing for me as I tried to remember which character was in which gang, mafia, etc.

I am looking forward to getting started on another spinoff from this author, Debt Collection. The first title from Debt Collection will feature Ben's story (Ben is a supporting character we briefly meet in In Jack's Arms)and will first be available April 1rst in Alphas After Dark. I'm a bit disappointed that I have to wait to get the story I really want...Besian and Marley!

So I really like this series and also the Russian protectors, it's guilty pleasure of mine :)

image:

Not gonna say too much but this book for me acted like gap filler between stories, books and characters and I love that we gonna get Albanian mob stories... we see more about the bosses schemes and business than love birds struggling getting together, which was nice and refreshing...

image:

But at the same time I was missing the dangerous edge last few pages and if someone gonna die...yeah I'm masochist that way

can not wait for more ;)

ACTION PACKED ROMANCE

Second book in this series and the eldest Connolly brother Jack gets his story. Abby owns and runs her own pawn shop left to her by her grandfather. Jack has admired Abby from afar for a while, he'd like nothing better than to get up close and personal with her. Abby has no clue that Jack wants her, she has been secretly in love with Jack forever, she attends the weekly self defence course that Jack runs with his younger brother Finn at the gym they own. She's seen the gorgeous curvy women all over him at the class, thinking she doesn't stand a chance with him. All that changes when danger threatens. Then Jack steps up to protect and claim Abby.

Another good read read from one of my favourite authors. It's just as good as the first book. Fast paced and action packed. I loved Jack, he was pure alpha, bossy and protective. Abby was a delight she was easy to relate to. The love scenes are very sensuous. I am really looking forward to the next starring the other Connolly brother Finn.

I liked this 2nd book in this series more then the first!
Jack was a bit delicious I must say with all his alpha goodness but with a bit more maturity then his younger brother Kelly. Loved how he treated Abbey throughout the whole book!
Abbey was a great character, love how this author has strong lead female characters, its very refreshing.
We got to see a bit more of the last brother, Finn and met his love interest, so keen to continue the series.
Again we got more of the characters from the main series this is a spin off from, the Russian Protector series, so my advice would be to read some of those first otherwise, it will all be just different names that get thrown around and could be confusing.
The romance side was a little tamer then usual, not a bad thing, it was nice as they had history of knowing each other, not wham bam we are in love!
Again this one had no actual "fighting" as in, inside a ring/cage etc, other then owning the gym there was no actual fights?
Overall and very enjoyable read, onto the next one for sure.

While I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the Fighting Connollys – In Kelly’s Corner, there was just something about Jack’s book that pulled at my heartstrings and touched me soul deep.
Maybe because the foundation for the Connolly brothers background was already revealed in the first book; IN JACK’S ARMS is actually a shorter story than Kelly’s, but believe me, it packs an immense punch nonetheless.
With the usual suspects playing a prominent part from the seedy and ruthless world of mobsters, drug cartels and hit men, there is never a dull moment and very little time to take a breath, so this is definitely a one sitting read!
My praise for Ms Rivera’s books now extends to this fabulous series too, and I now find myself as impatient for Finn’s story, as I always am for the next in the Russian Protectors!

Really enjoyed this but I would advise reading the Russian books before this as the characters and storyline are overlapping having said that I still got confused with who's who and who did what, anyway the story of Jack and Abby there attraction was instant but neither were in a place to intimate anything until it all kicks off...,Jack to the rescue!, you so want him fighting your corner, not a full on Alpha just loyal and brave, protecting those he loves, loads of drama, action and as always loads of the steamy stuff. Nice to hear about Jacks brother Kelly and more about Finn who's book is up next. Kostya and Besian are in this book a lot so hoping their books are soon, especially Besian and Marleys. Really enjoying this whole series of books, definite TBR but you have to start with "Ivan", it was still free when I was typing this. Enjoy!

The story was a good one. It pushed the whole plot thread through to the next book as well as on to the next series. Chemistry between the MC's was nice with a few hot scenes. The amount of character overlap is starting to hurt though as name after name were rattled off and I guess I'm supposed to know who those people were, I'm sure I read their books and stories but I found it more like white noise just cluttering up this plot.

Abby and Jack were good, decent people and they worked well together. Disappointingly, it looks like Finn's story won't be a M/M. Insert sad face emoticon.

Not bad but....

While reading this book but I wanted to read more about the secondary characters, Finn and Besian, then the main characters, Abby and Jack. That being said I did enjoy this installment. Abby seemed like a sweetie trying to keep her head above water and Jack is your typically alpha Marine greying to save his girl. it was kinda confusing at the end, to many people to keep track of

Again a Roxie Rivera book. A good one
Abby is a pawnbroker who finds a hit on one of the camera's pawned. She knows there will be trouble and turns to Jack Connolly (former Marine) for help. Jack has loved Abby (secretly) for years and will do anything to help and protect her, even if it means dealing with the Mexican cartel.
This is a great book and worth the read.

Love this author's writing style. I've read the Russians, the Loan Shark, and the Connollys. It always leaves me wanting more. In Jack's Arms is a MusT read, but follow the reading flow and start at the beginning....

People really be giving out 4 stars around here like it's not big of a deal where's the taste.

I appreciate insta-love, but this went beyond instant love; it was ultra-super insta-love. There wasn't even time to get to know the characters before they were all over each other. The plot was okay; I liked the twist that she had a disabled brother and how much she cared about him. I also appreciated how the author built her character around that aspect. However, the story heavily relied on the fact that the characters had known each other for a long time before this book. For the author, that might be acceptable, but for readers, it's not. We haven't seen the evolution of their relationship or how they met, making their instant connection less believable.

Perhaps the author could have dedicated a chapter or two to their backstory instead of making it an instant connection. As for the writing, it was a quick read and had some heartfelt moments, which is why I'm giving it three stars. However, for this book to be rated four stars, it doesn't make sense. What would you rate five stars if this is a four-star book?Despite my reservations, I'm planning to read the other books she has about the Russian mafia; they seem really interesting. So, let's see.

Jack and Abby have both been interested in each other for years but never said anything for their own reasons. Jack finally realizes he needs to claim his woman and he does! Unfortunately it isn't smooth sailing, as Abby unknowingly gets put in the middle of a disagreement that involves many of the top criminals in Houston. Jack has finally gotten the girl and he's not letting her go so he turns to a man he'd rather not deal with so that he and his family can keep Abby and her brother safe.

I liked this story. All the characters are likable, there isn't a ton of forced drama between the MCs, and it's fast moving. I was engrossed from beginning to end.

Lots of characters from the author's other books (not just the 1 in this series) are mentioned and events that have happened in other books are referenced as well. While I haven't read these books so I was at a slight disadvantage it didn't take away from the overall story and I was able to keep up.

About time

These stories are great. They lightly touch on so many issues, from the simple to extreme. The unlikely of friends with attachments. Things are never as it seems in these series. Abby is friend with an underworld loan shark. That same loan shark had forced her love interest's brother to fight in a cage. Abby and Jack have denied themselves the truth about their feelings for so long. As danger threatened her Back couldn't just stand by any more. He confessed his love and helped save his girl. She confessed her love and held on for the excitement of her life.

Loved both brothers so far, on to Finn! If his book is like the first two, I know I will love it just the same. All the must's was yet again in this book. Romance, action, great story plot, smut and the crime element. I'm glad this doesn't make me odd, knowing others must like the same combo! On to the next...

Did not enjoy this as much as the other books in this universe. Tbh it just made me want to read about Finn and Hadley more than anything.

An okay storyline, okay romance and nice. Nothing too special.

In Jack’s Arms by Roxie Rivera

“I said it. I mean it.”

I’ve read in Kelly’s Corner so many times but this is the first time I’ve continued the series!

It was a sweet book with not as much action as the first but just the same amount of sweetness.

4/5 Stars!

It was alright, these books don’t have enough fluff or banter for me and the L bomb is dropped too quickly imo. Maybe Finn’s book will be better.
