Thank you Julie for an ARC copy of this book!

I bumped into Julie's TikTok account a little while ago and signed up for the ARC's of her first book The Other World because I liked the premise and the cover of this book. I ended up enjoying this book, honestly! I believe Julie is a talented writer with a bright future in writing ahead of her. However, it is clear that this is self-published and her first book (which is fine, she's off to a great start!). Still, I'm excited to see Julie grow, and I will definitely be reading future books written by her.

What I liked:
- The world-building was beautiful
- I liked the diverse characters. I could easily keep them apart and remember their names. She didn't overdo it with the amount of characters, so that's great
- I loved seeing Harry Potter inspirations in the story :D
- Julie clearly did her research and included some lore that's enjoyable
- The ending and epilogue were absolutely perfect, I was shocked!!

What I didn't like:
- Sometimes the story felt rushed. I would've loved more depth at times because I somehow did not feel like I connected enough with the story (except at the end, holy shit)
- Conversations often felt fake because characters agreed too quickly to something. I kept thinking 'this is not how someone in real life would react'.

Thank you, Julie, for an ARC of this beautiful book.

I absolutely loved it! The world-building was so good and descriptive, and not slow or over-the-top (as in a lot of other books). I love that you just got to jump right into the story, it was fast-paced from the first page. The characters had a lot of depth, and I felt a connection to almost every one of them. Kyla is strong, relatable and lovely in so many ways. I loved the journey she had in this book.

The love interest was well written, the relation they had and the tension between them was really fun to read. It made me giggle and kick my feet a lot. It didn’t hurt that the trope is enemy to lover, which is my absolute favourite.

The most important thing for me when I read a book, is the way it makes me feel. Apart from being an amazing book in the first place, the way I felt when I read it made it a 5 star book for me. 10/10 would recommend!

´The Other World´ by Julie Marty - instant five stars

Chapter 26: "Endeavoring to keep the panic at bay, I ran back out []. I bolted down one flight of stairs and up another. [] . I kept moving, never stopping, no matter how much my muscles burned and screamed at me to slow down, []. [] I found the engraved crown on the wall and tapped it over and over with my shaky hands []. No sooner was there a big enough space for me [] I dashed up the stairs []. I tripped once. Twice. Three times. [] gasping for air, my heart thumping so hard it could have burst right out of my chest."

After her dad vanished two years ago, Kyla Ambers lives a normal life with her mum, except everything is about to change. After she accidentally discovers her magical powers and ends up getting hurt in the process, her mum tells her the truth. Her father didn't disappear, he is the King of Azhalis -the water realm in the Other World. They are Fae. Moving to the Other World is more of a challenge than Kyla thought. She needs to adapt to her new life as the Crown Princess and understand the importance of her powers as she makes new friends along the way.
But when secrets are uncovered, things get messy and the Kingdom is in urgent need of help - Kyla is sure - she is ready to fight for her loved ones as well as for her kingdom, even if she ends up getting hurt in the process.

First and foremost I. Absolutely. Loved. This. Book.! Down to every detail, every little name and place and I loved it so much I can´t even put it into words.

This book is the perfect mix of cute friendship [see quote from chapter 12] and the epic fantasy thrill [see quote from chapter 26]. With heartfelt moments of cute sleepovers, teasing between friends and being on the battlefield fighting for the life of your loved ones. It´s everything you could possibly dream of. The only problem I have with the book is that I AM OBSESSED AND I NEED TO HAVE THE NEXT BOOKS IN MY POSSESSION ABOUT RIGHT NOW!!!!

Okay, now that we have that out of the way… What do I love about the Other World?
-The character building was perfect. Each and every character had its own little story and background, and learning it was so nicely stored within the story, it was by no means awkward to read.
-There is exactly the right amount of characters in this story; one can easily keep track of all of them and know them apart.
-There was not one single filler scene in this book. And even the most relaxing things like going to dinner always have some kind of important plot and/or foreshadowing in it.
-The foreshadowing is perfect for the plot and you remember the bits that matter when the actual scene is there.
-The world building is beautifully written. It´s basically a movie playing out in your mind!!
-If I were to choose a favourite character I simply could not do it, because I would just ´degrade´ another one when choosing the other…. I. love. Ever. Single. One. (which does sometimes not include their actions in to book of course! Some characters do bad things and some not…)

Chapter 12: “Sana and Padme looked up from the game of chess they had been playing long enough to greet me, broad grins curling their lips. [] -Kyla it´s good to see you!- -We saw each other at lunch a few hours ago- I retorted, amused. -So what? Does that mean I can´t be happy to see you?-“

This book has been through a JOURNEY which I luckily was on [Thank you Julie]. I have read this final version, that all the people out there will soon (19.09) be able read, but I have also had my first ever experience with beta reading on THIS spectacular book. I have cried until I fell asleep and I have drawn little heart around cute lines. This will forever be a core memory and I will look back to this time of my life with great joy. I loved this book, even when it wasn´t finished, when there were two names for one character or a scene that didn´t make sense. I love this book now, with all its tiny details and all its characters, all its places, all its magic and all its friendship. I will love this book, even when I have read it a million times, even when I know every word and everything the story will throw back at me.

When I say that this book will make your feelings go into a spiral and the roller-coaster of emotions seems never-ending, then I mean that with my whole heart. I have known the plot before I read the final version and I still felt everything deep in my bones; I laughed, I blushed, I giggled, I shouted and I cried.
If you feel emotionally ready [you will never be] to read this, than please, go for it! This book is so worth it and I cannot wait to read the next one.

This book was AMAZING. I’m not sure if words can truly describe how I felt during the book.

Each of the characters had so much depth, and I loved every one of them. The friendship in this book was also perfect. Umiko and her group instantly letting Kyla join, Fleur showing her cousin around and answering her seemingly obvious questions without judgment. And of course the tension throughout the entire book between Kyla and Soren.

The plot twists! They were so many, yet just the right amount. Aiden attempting to kidnap Kyla, and later turning out to be Edana’s son. Soren… dying. (I shed more than a few tears) Soren being Kyla’s mate. The epilogue letter, the fact he knew is heartbreaking.

All in all, I LOVED this book. Every second.

Thank you so much for the EArc of this book!

I had the honor to read "The Other World" as an ARC reader.
I was hocked from page one, was soaked into the story and didn't want to return to the real world again.
The main character Kyla (nickname: Kie) is, as well as the other characters, really realistic (well, as realistic as characters in fantasy novels can be). It was like I was walking next to them, listening to their every conversation. Her worries, her dreams, her goals: perfectly written down.
The world building turned out great! It has history I want to explore even more and I'm down for it.
The author made me feel things I want to feel, while reading a book, which every author wants to archive. Making people feel things with your work is the best feeling you can have.
And the tension between the MC and the love interest is GOLD! Everytime the love interest was mentioned, I silly smiled.
I read it in two days, bc I had to sleep and eat and had to interact with my family. If I hadn't, I'd have finished it in one.
One of my favorite books of 2023 and I'm totally going to buy the physical copie on September 19th.

Kayla ambers isn’t as normal as she always thought, which she finds out on her 17th birthday. It reveals she is a fae as her mom and missing dad. They travel to the other world, the world where they belong and her dad, who was supposed to be gone, is the king of the water realm. The book is about how Kayla adjusts to this new world, as crown princess, the people and its way of working and about the fun(and dangerous) adventures with her newly found friends. There’s family drama, love, great new friendships, plus an enemies to lovers(which I personally am obsessed with 😻).
This book gave me many emotions and feelings I didn’t know I was able to feel so intense. I was happy with Kayla, angry and sad. I had suspicions(maybe more than needed 😭) and still the book had many surprises and plot twists open that I personally didn’t see coming. (Im still not over how my Kayla nearly dated her nearly cousin it was sooooo close 🥲)
I’m so so grateful(THANK U SO MUCH JULIE) that she chose me as a beta AND arc reader for her book and I’m so happy I got to see the development from a first draft to the nearly final version. Some things changed(I love the ball scene and I’m happy u made one cause that’s what is NEEDED more in fantasy books!) but (poorly) the devastating ending stayed. (Im just joking I love it so so much😻but I hopeeeee it’s not the end).
The characters were really thought through and Julie spent much much time on researching and writing (obviously) this book and I think it turned out wonderful. I’m a sucker for Theon and umiko so julieee I hope they get some cute story too and Soren! Omg this enemies to lovers AND fated mates? Wow I absolutely loved it and I folded so fast at the little princess nickname! (I know she’s a princess but it’s still SO cuteee 😻) I could feel with the characters(even if some conversations were cut short cause they all agreed(I would’ve loved to see some drama or a BIG fight but it’s just me I’m a fool for drama🤭)
Alsoooo dear readers, julie is such a nice person and I’m the happiest to have met her this year. She so kind and always answers(even when I spam her so sorryyy for that!) Soo I think she would really love to hear ur opinions on her book, when u read it when it’s out on September 19th, over instagram or TikTok (let’s make her super super famous🤭) or even as a little review ;).
Julie put so much work in this book and u can feel the love in every sentence u read. I loved seeing her progress and I’m really impressed with all the world building and detail that’s put into this great book(honestly Julie that is crazy🤭). I’m so proud of her and I hope(u better 😊) u all will love this book just as much as she herself and I did!
So if ur in for adventure and ready to have ur heart broken(which is a sign of an amazing book I’m just saying) then „the other world“ is perfect for u!

I honestly have no idea where or when I stumbled across Julies post about seeking arc readers. I honestly forgot that I applied to be one. Then BOOM this GEM lands in my inbox.

I have now read The Other World twice. and I found myself wanting to read it a third time as well. this book is packed with emotion, and although the world building is a bit hectic at first - I wouldn't change it for anything - it's part of the charm of this book. Kyla is fierce and strong and sweet and relatable. and I fell in love with her story. An emotional roller coaster, I'm talking loop de loops and mountain highs and valley lows. I need book 2 now lmao. Enemies to lovers romance plotline and that entire relationship had me kicking my feet and laughing in the chair - my boyfriend probably thinks I'm nutso at this point but I don't care. also, I did NOT expect to shed tears in a fantasy/romance but TEARS WERE CRIED. I loved the epilogue - it completely devastated my heart. fated mates added something to this book that I didn't think id like at first. (spoiler alert its FANTASTIC) also there's a lot of secrets that are hidden and come out so this is an INCREDIBLE read.

Dear Julie, Thank you so so much for this book. I have always loved reading. this is just one of those books that no matter what stage of life you are at, reading it will make you fall in love with reading all over again. you are incredible. I cannot wait for book two. Your fan for life. <3

I was so completely sucked into this intricate world of Kyla's, I felt like I had this journey with her. Admittedly, I found the beginning both a bit slow paced at moments, and yet hectic at others. But despite that, the creation of the world and the kind and plot, made it up, beautifully. Kie is a strong one. A very strong one. And though she struggled to harness her energy at first, I absolutely adored her.

Her parents! ALARIC AND ISLA. I love them so much. The parents I wish I had. Really. They were the sweetest souls and simply so amazing. But Isla's lore? And her heritage? I was shocked. Actually. I wasn't expecting it one bit - At first, I felt detached to most characters (excluding Kyla) but I later realised that: no, I wasn't detached, I just didn't recognise it. I absolutely ADORED the power system, the gifts and special skills! They were very well planned. Though I noticed some errors and could definitely see the inspirations I think everything came together wonderfully.

This book was packed with emotion, and is a beautiful story. I can't wait to continue with Kyla's journey, that sweet, unhinged soul. And I hope she gets justice - like, she did not deserve it. He didn't deserve it. My original plan was to finish this in four days, but lo behold, done in two days, I was hooked. This was an enjoyable read and was beautifully written and planned (messed with my heart strings, definitely.)

Firstly I’d like to say thank you so much for the Arc Julie!

This was a slow read for me, I found the beginning of the book really slow it didn’t pick up until about 60% of the way in and personally I like to get the ball rolling early.

I feel like I was constantly waiting for a twist or a betrayal from another character but everyone was just so, nice? As much as that’s a lovely sentiment I think I’ve read too many books with morally grey characters because I was disappointed by the lack of backstabbing 😂

I guessed the whole Kyla and Soren being mates very early on so the twist reveal didn’t shock me but I’m glad this was the case. It’s a shame it wasn’t revealed before he died however I think that’s something that’s set this story apart from so many others I’ve read.

It does have good world building and an interesting magic system, I liked the aspect of the special skills but it felt unrealistic (she says after reading a book about faeries) for all of the friend group to manifest a special skill so young when it’s mentioned multiple times that this is really rare.

I think Marty will have a bright future in the world of fantasy! I look forward to seeing what else she comes up with

I was so excited that I got to read this book before the book actually released. Julie herself is such a wonderful and enthousiast woman, and as a person younger than her, I really look up to her. And the book was just as amazing as her amazing personality.
Each sentence was written with love, and each character was thought through. This book put me through some crazy emotional rollercoasters.
At first I didn’t feel the attached to Kyla, which worried me and I thought I wasn’t going to like it. But when I was about three chapters in, I wanted to continue read about her journey and every sentence that I read, or every word that Kyla said, I started to attach to her more.
I need the second book ASAP. Honestly, this is one of the best books that I have ever read. AND IT WASN’T EVEN FULLY EDITED WHEN I READ IT I CAN’T WAIT TO READ ALL THE CHANGES!!
Love you Julie❤️

I got to this book through a friend and at first I was unsure, due to the slow pace, but it wasn't too slow or boring and as soon as it really started, I was hooked. I just finished this and I really don't want to spoiler, but I now absolutely LOVE this book and those last 200 pages FLEW by, even though I'll probably need to heal for a while.

OMFG WHAT, I absolutely refuse to accept that ending. No way I just went through all that, to have my heart and soul destroyed. I fell in love with these characters and their story, the plot was really well thought out. It felt a bit rushed at the beginning but it soon found it's pace. I need the next book, like yesterday.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Can’t believe I had the honor of being an ARC reader for this literal perfection.

At first I want to marvel about this beautiful story and plot. And oh my goodness the foreshadowing. If you know what happens in the end before finishing or if you’re re reading you shall notice how much foreshadowing there is in this book, yet Julie hid it so well that I had no clue until she pointed it out.

Kyla is a normal teenager, well as normal as you can be when your father is declared missing, until her 17th birthday when the water pressure gets too high and results on her getting an injury. This leads her to find out she isn’t actually normal but a fae living in the human world. And not just any fae, she is the crown princess of Azhalis, the water realm. She also finds out that her father is back in the Other World. Her mother then explains everything to her and they decide to return since she had to master her gift.
When they return to Azhalis she meets so many members of her family and makes so many new friends. And then with those friends she learns to grow and they are inseparable the rest of the book.

Now to the world building.

Words can’t describe how much I want to be in Azhalis and just take in its beauty.

So there are four realms that rule in the Other World.
Water, Azhalis
Earth, Greenwick
Air, Empereal
Fire, Scorchchill (I know it’s impossible to memorise but dw)

We don’t like the queen of Scorchchill, there is another reason as to why except attacking Azhalis but I’ll leave you to find that out by yourselves.

Now let me introduce the characters:

Kyla “Do I really have to go to this ball?” Ambers, the main character. She is lovely. She is so accepting and she would literally die to protect her family and close ones. She is super smart and she has marvellous powers. She is brave and strong. She went through so much and is still the unbreakable girl I met in the beginning.

Fleur “I still can’t believe humans only live for eighty years” Belmont is Kyla’s cousin. She’s my #1. Her parents were killed in the attack that caused Kyla’s father to return to Azhalis. Even though her parents were killed she’s such a bright and welcoming character. She welcomes her cousin with open arms and helps her understand the Other World.

Alaric “Wake up sleepyhead” Ambers. Kyla’s father. He is a great king, father, uncle, husband, whatever title you give him he’s great at that. (Ngl I want a father like him too) He helps Kyla learn and understand the basics of what she is going to learn at school and he makes sure his people are safe and taken care of.

Isla “I’m not good under pressure” Ambers. Kyla’s mother. At first Isla is a very mysterious character. We don’t know much about her but while the story continues and as the plot thickens we learn unimaginable things about her. She is a great mother and she’s super strong. She is amazing and you wouldn’t guess who she really is.

Nyx, Kyla’s guard is the definition of mysterious but we know he’s loyal. He gives his all to protecting Kyla. As he was assigned to do.

The people Kyla meets at school are amazing. They’re sweet and loving and accepting. She finds herself in a friend group with Umiko, Theon, Padme and Sansa. Soon Soren, our favourite guy also joins their friend group and they become inseparable even in case of war.

I must admit this book had a pretty slow start but once you reach a certain point you finish it without even realising. I swear one day I was at chapter 15 and the next I was crying over that heartbreaking end that I knew was going to happen.

Also points to Julie for making me cry, I rarely cry while reading especially when I know everything is going to be okay, but I cried during this one.

My Dear Julie, how to start this?

Your book reflected wonderfully your patience and your work. Kyla’s character was so interesting, the universe you make us dive into is so good and remained anchored in my mind.

That was my first fantasy book ever, and I think it was a marvelous way to start. Even though I had struggle getting into it, —but u know me, i’m a fucking slow ass reader— I ended up being unable to put the book down. The whole text was written in such a way that I could perfectly imagine myself in every situation and every place without so much of an effort and this is brilliant.

You can genuinely be proud of yourself. Even your writing made my jaw drop —like how the fuck did she come up with that sentence? You were able to give me everything I love in books: good characters, amazing setting, a super interesting story, perfectly well described situations, action at its finest…

I’m no one important to the evolution of your book but if I were I’d be honored, plus I would ADORE watching an adaptation of your book into a movie!!

Anyway, I will finish this by saying that you are an incredible writer and that you should NOT EVER stop writing (although I imagine it was not what you had planned), and also, WHEN WILL U WRITE ANOTHER ONE FOR CHRIST SAKE?? That’s it.

Love u <3

PS: I still hate you for the ending <3

I liked this book, it started quickly which I loved and so much happened so soon! It was very intriguing and a page turner. I loved all the characters and there were a couple of plot twists which I didn't expect! My only criticism is that important information wasn't brought up as much as I would have liked it to be. But apart from that I think this was a great read and I enjoyed it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you so much Julie for giving me the opportunity to read your novel in exchange for an honest review!

I enjoyed the sweet moments Kyla had when being reunited with her dad, relatives, and a world she’s unfamiliar with. She starts to learn and enjoy her new life in the Other World”

There was quite a few grammar errors that was above able to catch that made me have to bring this to Julie’s attention due to the release slowly approaching.

The storyline is a slow pace, where you’re wanting or waiting for a problem/conflict (Rising Action) to come, that builds interest or suspense, which took a while for something to transpire.

It finally came at the last couple of chapters, which I was eager to keep reading. All the twist & turns to the secrets unfolding and the heart breaking cliff hanger. You definitely don’t wanna miss this sweet fated mates novel!
