Never fall for your best friend. That’s the rule. The code. Claire Harlow always follows rules—except this one. However, when an attack leaves both of their worlds shaken, she decides to walk away from what could have been and hide within her own shadows.
Kingston Montgomery is the man who saves the day. At least that’s what he’s always told himself—until one day he was too late. Now he’s trying to find his purpose while also ignoring the heat between him and Claire. When a chance blizzard changes their plans, one night turns to two…and then there’s no going back.
Only the two must overcome what they thought their relationship should be and realize what it could become. Because if they don’t figure it out quickly, the spark that ignites them could burn them both.

Her works include the Montgomery Ink, Talon Pack, Promise Me, and Elements of Five series, which have sold millions of books worldwide. She's the winner of a RT Book of the Year and a Prism Award in her genres. She started writing while in graduate school for her advanced degree in chemistry and hasn’t stopped since. Carrie Ann has written over seventy-five novels and novellas with more in the works. When she’s not losing herself in her emotional and action-packed worlds, she’s reading as much as she can while wrangling her clowder of cats who have more followers than she does.
The Montgomery Ink World contains the following series, though each series is a stand alone and can be read in any order. Feel free to hop around:
Event planner Claire is plagued with nightmares after a h0rrific encounter resulted in her being stabbed and her best friend nearly strangled by the perpetrator. Now obsessed with personal security and safety, she locks herself away in her home when she’s not working long hours. On a rare weekend off, she’s traveling to the Montgomerys’ cabin for a fun getaway. Only when she arrives a sudden storm traps her there with the object of her secret obsession and no one else.
Security expert Kingston has always been attracted to Claire, but when his best friend became involved with her bestie, he stayed away in case things went south rather than risk alienating any of them. At his family’s cabin, he and Claire get a little tipsy, then a little handsy, and then a LOT steamy.
When the weather clears enough for them to safely venture down the mountain, they’re each unsure whether to admit to deeper feelings. After a series of intense experiences together and apart, a misunderstanding threatens to derail their budding romance.
Once again Carrie Ann Ryan has delivered a spicy sweet, page turner of a romance within the Montgomery universe. Many cameos of characters from past books in the series add to my enjoyment as a longtime reader of her work.
I was fortunate to have received an advance reader copy from the author and bookfunnel, and I’m very pleased to share my enthusiastic review.
I listened to the audiobook version of this book, and OMG, Teddy Hamilton and Emma Wilder were the perfect Kingston and Claire. The emotions, the rawness, the absolute pain you could not only hear but feel in their voices was magnificent, and then there's the heat, the flirtiness, and the seductive lilt that comes across with such depth you would think that it was the Teddy and Emma story and not Kingston and Claire's. This is why they were perfect for this story's narration: you need to feel all of the feelings with this one, and they did it to perfection.
We start with a group of Montgomery cousins and friends deciding to go away for the weekend, but it doesn't work out as planned, thanks to a larger-than-predictable snowstorm. But the time away gives Kingston and Claire some time to clear the air between them on what has been going on recently, and it leaves plenty of time for some "alone time," if you know what I mean. 😉 Anyway, their ONS isn't supposed to lead to anything, but we all know how that goes, especially when longtime crushes are involved.
Ever since that terrible day, Claire is avoiding Kingston. She knows it’s not fair to him and she has to get over it. He will keep her safe, no matter what. Kingston always wants to protect and take care of everyone. When things don’t turn out the way they should, he feels this consuming guilt. One night together at the cabin leads to more between them, and they become each other’s person to rely on. To say this was an emotional book, is still underrated. I could feel the grieve Kingston felt when he got the call with the news about Eddie. I was a mess right then. I fall for each and every hero Miss Ryan writes about, making me fall head over heels from the beginning for Kingston this time.
Y’all when I tell you that this book packs an emotional punch, I mean it slaps you in the face and makes you ask “May I have another?”. You’ve got friends to one night stand lovers, an FMC with trauma issues, and an MMC that just wants to protect her and show her how amazing she is.
Kingston and Claire have such amazing chemistry, and it just left me wanting more, more, more! The emotional aspect of this story really sucked me in, and made me root for them to find their HEA. I just loved this book so much! Small town romance with ALL of the feels and spice!
This Montgomery Ink Legacy series continues to suck me in and the story of Kingston and Claire is no different.
Claire has distanced herself from Kingston since being injured despite having been the best of friends.
Of course we all know how well 'close proximity' works and a snowstorm is just what this lovely couple needs to get their heads on straight and realise that their feelings are so much stronger.
Many cameo appearances are facilitated throughout this lovely story, reminding us just why we love the Montgomery clan, even as it seems to grow daily.
I so want to be friends with this family, I'm sure they've got space for one more?!
A wonderful story. another great Montgomery family story that will keep you loving their big family, the closeness, and protecting each other. Claire is a friend of Phoebe’s so Kingston is keeping his feelings close to himself, not wanting to create issues, but there comes a point, things will undoubtedly change. Beautiful story, and two people who have been through horrible situations, come together and find their happiness. Loved this story.
As a huge fan of the Montgomery family I was excited to read Montgomery Ink Legacy book 7, One Night with You (ARC Edition).
Carrie Ann Ryan delivered a great emotional story!
You have a front row seat to Kingston and Claire's evolving relationship. They are friends and thanks to a snowstorm they get a chance to explore what could be if they only gave each other and themselves the opportunity to find out.
The representation of strong loving families and friends woven throughout the story helps to give Kingston and Claire the space and support they need to figure out their relationship.
This story includes sexy encounters, humor, heartbreak, coping with trauma, acts of selflessness, and finding love.
Don't miss out and be ready to follow their journey when the story is released on November 18, 2024.
Kingston and Claire have known each other from an early age but didn’t consider each other as anything but friends. Kingston had rescued Claire from a dangerous situation (not explained in the book). Claire was embarrassed that she hadn’t been able to help a friend and that Kingston had had to rescue her so she avoided him. Kingston is from a large family that meets annually at a ski resort. This year, however, only Kingston & Claire are able to get to the cabin because of weather conditions. As you guessed they were able to talk about what happened became more than friends. What ensues is the usual angst of does she/does he care about me the way I care about him/her. Happily ever after prevails. I love the Montgomery series and I think Kingston & Claire are my new favorites.
I do believe this is my favourite cover of Ms Ryan’s so far. I had to go back and remind myself who Claire was then I jumped in. Claire’s character was easier to understand for me. I got the avoidance and the nightmares from her trauma. Kingston, I had trouble with his mindset. I do not understand the guilt he felt. He was a part of a medical procedure that was a lot harder for Eddie and then he takes the whole blame on his shoulders. He “failed” as he states. It didn’t make sense to me. This was also the first time I felt a little lost amongst the Montgomery’s. I need to go see if CAR has a family tree on her website because I was getting confused. There were cousins who were Kingston’s but not Kane’s and I couldn’t figure out where Livvy fit in. That’s not even counting the fact that some of the cousins are as close as siblings, like Kingston acts big brotherly to Aria and even refers to himself that way. Not my favourite unfortunately but Daisy’s book is in my top 10 reads of the year so I know CAR can blow my socks off.
Thank you to Carrie Ann Ryan for the arc and this is my honest review
Claire's not been the same since the attack that turned everything upside down. She's not only been distancing herself physically, but emotionally and mentally. All she does is work so she doesn't have to think about what happened. She's been avoiding Kingston, too, and he thinks it's because he didn't protect her the way he thinks he should have. But then something happens that changes their friendship. Being snowed in together means their friendship will never be the same, and they'll have to decide what to do about it.
Kingston is the guy, the friend, the family, that gives and gives and gives of himself. He has a protector and savior complex and can't stand it when people avoid him, and when he thinks he didn't do what he was supposed to. He's been so worried about his friend Claire, worrying about her mental and physical wellbeing, but he just can't make himself confront her or force an intervention because of the guilt he carries. But mother nature has plans for him and Claire, and now they're here - snowed in together with all these feelings...
Awww I love these two friends to lovers. Claire is so relatable, has so much bottled up inside, and it takes meddling mother nature to get her to open up to Kingston. And then there's Kingston. He's got such a big, generous heart, and I admit to being worried about him more than once that he'd give too much of himself one too many times. Thank God he had a large, loving family for support, and his friends, all of whom could not do without him. The steam is spicy, the love is fierce, and their ending with Claire's journal entry made me tear up in a good way. And the very ending made me really impatient for Crew's story next.
Welcome back to Colorado & the Montgomerys…and their very large extended family. Where you’re “adopted” if they like you…and there is cheese…and wine…did I mention cheese?
One Night With You is Kingston’s & Claire’s story, and it picks up several months after His Second Chance (Kane & Phoebe’s story). We’re introduced to Claire in His Second Chance as Phoebe’s best friend & roommate. Since I’m trying not to do spoilers…the ending of His Second Chance saw Claire ‘pulling’ away slightly from everyone due to the climatic events at the end of that book. You don’t necessarily have to read His Second Chance in order to read One Night With You—but it does give some background.
Claire is still working at coming to terms with things…she’s bought a house (since Phoebe moved in with Kane)…and she’s working insane hours as a events planner…trying to take her mind of things…and people.
Kingston Montgomery…was there when Claire was injured…he blames himself & is struggling to understand why she is pulling away from certain people (namely him). Not to mention waiting to donate bone marrow for a high school classmate that he helped years ago in his fight against cancer. Since Claire is having her ‘issues’…things seem a little awkward at times…when she suddenly switches into flight mode & leaves gatherings or places quickly…especially when her brother now works with Leif & the others in the new tattoo parlor.
Claire agrees to a weekend with everyone in the mountains, in the spring…since even though Kingston will be there…she’s bunking with Phoebe. She manages to get up to the cabin before a brief snowstorm closes down the road…only to find that the only other person there is Kingston.
Needless to say…they had a very ‘hot’ night together…and of course parted ways the next morning without really talking about their night.
Throw in the need of an new ‘venue’ for a Montgomery family reunion…bone marrow donations…an icy lake & a certain Montgomery male being ‘slow’ on the direction of his emotions…and you have the basics for One Night With You.
Now will Kingston & Claire work through their issues…yes…will there be bumps in the road—of course, but there is will also be cheese…and wine…or beer. Oh, and Montgomery males trying their hand at golfing. I loved this book, and the brief ‘visit’ with the other poly-Montgomery family (Kingston’s parents are Ethan, Holland, and Lincoln; their book is Sated in Ink [book two in the spin-off Boulder series within the ‘original’ generation series). We also get glimpses of other family members (such as Lake, Leif, Sebastian, and Aria)…I did love the drop-in visit of Maya towards the end of the book.
What I really love about the Montgomery Ink world that Carrie Ann Ryan created—you can start anywhere…whether it’s within the one of the ‘original’ generation series, a spin-off series, or the second generation. Also…I know that there will be a lot more books within this vast world coming…because Carrie Ann can’t help but introduce at times a new partner…who happens to have a large family of ‘single’ siblings…who we all know will be getting their happily ever after at some point in the new future.
One Night With You is releasing on all platforms on Monday, November 17…so go pre-order. That way come next Monday, you can curl up with a cup of coffee (or tea, or even hot chocolate), a cozy blanket (or throw), and escape reality for awhile—by visiting the Montgomerys in Colorado. One Night With You is a five out of five star reading…and I can’t wait for the next installment.
Claire started pulling away from her friends after a traumatic event. Now that she has physically recovered, she keeps herself overworked and overscheduled to avoid memories. It doesn’t matter that her assistant pushes her to rest, and her friends are there to catch her, she doesn’t feel settled and safe in her own home anymore.
Kingston was there the night Claire’s whole world shifted, and though he doesn’t want to remind her of that night, he does want to help in whatever way he can. He has his own struggles going on when a longtime friend approaches him and needs medical assistance. Kingston is such a giving guy that he can’t help wanting to give whatever he can to those he loves.
When a group trip turns into just the two of them snowed in at one of the Montgomery mountain cabins, the feelings they have both tamped down lead to a night filled with heat, blurring the lines that had previously been clearly drawn.
I loved watching these two circle each other and then avoid each other. There was a certain amount of angst simply because addressing what was building between them meant Claire had to be able to let go of her nightmares. But watching as they each became safe harbor for the other embodied what I love about the Montgomery family and each of their books. The pacing kept things moving and I found myself flying through this story faster than I wanted.
Speaking of the Montgomerys, this is filled with plenty of the extended family but I especially loved seeing so much of Phoebe and Kane in the periphery of this book. There are a lot of Montgomerys to keep track of, but I have to say, I never forget who is who with the way the characters are included in the books that make the most sense for them to be in. I can’t wait for Crew and Aria’s book, as their teaser at the end has me wondering what is building between them!
"One Night With You," the seventh installment in the Montgomery Ink Legacy series, is a heartwarming story ideal for readers who adore stories of friendship blossoming into love. With its emphasis on familial bonds, tight-knit relationships and the healing power of love, the story offers a profound and wonderful experience that promises to leave readers wanting more.
Diving into the Montgomery world was an entirely new experience for me. Picking up this book felt like embarking on an exciting adventure. Although it's the seventh installment in the series, it stands strong on its own. "One Night With You" tells the poignant love story of Claire Harlow and Kingston Montgomery. They share a friendship, yet a harrowing incident that nearly claimed Claire's life has caused her to withdraw from him. Her resolve to maintain this gap, despite her deep-seated feelings, intensifies Kingston's remorse over not being there in time to prevent her ordeal. However, the dynamic between them shifted when a planned group weekend retreat turned into an intimate weekend for two, courtesy of a snowstorm.
Readers planning to read "One Night With You" should prepare for an enthralling tale filled with passion and emotion, set against the backdrop of the Montgomery family's intriguing world.
Kingston's selflessness endeared him to the reader, making it easy for one to adore him. He was the type of person who would give endlessly, expecting nothing in return. Claire, equally generous, complemented him perfectly, making them an ideal pair. Despite her battle with PTSD, which often led her to distance herself and push Kingston away, Claire's love remained strong. Upon hearing of Kingston's recovery from a bone marrow donation, she couldn't stay away any longer.
The progression of Claire and Kingston's relationship from friendship to romance made for a passionate and heartfelt read. It wasn't just Claire who secretly nurtured a crush; Kingston also harbored deep feelings for her. Despite his attempts to escape them, it all came to a head on one unforgettable night. The night he finally faced the truth. Together, they had many challenges to overcome and in the end they did.
Diving into the world of the Montgomerys has been a fascinating journey. Their unique personalities and stories have captivated me. As such it left me eager to delve deeper into their world and the lives of its intriguing characters. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading
Often we read a story that begins with a couple snowed in together and it leads to all kinds of naughtiness, but One Night With You is an entirely different take on that trope if you ask me. Instead of being the climax or the beginning of their relationship, which was really the catalyst for two people that had been hiding their feelings to finally just accept that their feelings didn’t need to be hidden any longer and they could in fact have a relationship together. For Claire, that night give her the permission she needed to give into the feelings she’d been surprising from the beginning and give herself to Kingston, which leads her to find the inner truth she hid from herself that she loves him more than any man she’s ever been with. Kingston however has been running form his own feelings so long he still doesn’t understand anything beyond that one night being the hottest of his life and giving him the permission he needs to finally pressure the woman that he’s wanted from the first moment he set eyes on her. Together the two of them have a lot of emotional drama to work through, and while they almost let it go too late, they finally admit their love not only to themselves but to one another. That passion is apparent form the first moment though they try their hardest to hide from it and when they finally give into it, its hot enough to burn down the winder forest around the cabin where they find themselves trapped. I am dying for the next book (Accidentally Forever) where Carrie Ann is determined to drive us insane for sure with Aria and Crew’s crazy passion and heat, though in between we will have a new connected series beginning (Always a Fake Bridesmaid) which looks to be interesting too. I’m never sure how she does it but Ms. Ryan always finds a way to take us on a roller coaster and finally leave you begging for more and ONWY is a prime example of that torture, so run right out and grab your copy on release day!
I couldn't contain my excitement when I learned we were getting Claire and Kingston's story. We met the pair in Carrie Ann Ryan's 'His Second Chance'. In that story, Clarie and Kingston were the friends of the main characters, Phoebe and Kane, all of whom met when encountering a bear while out on a hiking trip. At the end of that book, Claire and Phoebe had been brutally attacked. As co-owners of a security agency, Kane and Kingston had felt incredible guilt over the fact that they hadn't been able to prevent the girl's serious injury.
Claire Harlow had been stabbed numerous times. She no longer felt safe. She believed she was unable to live a normal life. Because of this, she began pushing away her close friend Kingston Montgomery. Kingston believes that Claire is pushing him away because he failed to save her, but, he refuses to let her walk away. Unbeknownst to each one another, the pair have harbored secret feelings since the day they had met. Neither wanted to act on those feelings and potentionally ruin a wonderful friendship. When the Montgomery cousins planned a weekend get away, Claire and Kingston are the only two to make it to the cabin before a snowstorm hits the pass and forces the others to turn away. With the help of lots of alcohol, the duo lose their inhibitions, and things evolve with their relationship.
Having grown up in a family with two dads and a mom, Kingston truly understands what it takes to make a relationship work through the good times and the bad. It is one of the reasons I think he fought so hard and never gave up on Claire. Claire is such a highly motivated individual. With her business she is constantly on the go; just reading about her daily schedule was exhausting to me but her perseverance is why she never gives up. The chemistry between this couple was off the charts and the scenes at the cabin were beyond steamy. I loved this perfect story for this perfect couple.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
One Night with You by Carrie Ann Ryan, book seven in the Montgomery Ink Legacy series, is a wonderful, emotional, and sizzling friend-to-lovers romance.
Event planner Claire Harlow is plagued with nightmares after a horrific encounter resulted in her being stabbed and her best friend nearly strangled by the perpetrator. Now obsessed with personal security and safety, she locks herself away in her home when she’s not working long hours; pushing away her close friend security expert Kingston Montgomery. Kingston believes that Claire is pushing him away because he failed to save her, but, he refuses to let her walk away. Unaware, the pair have had secret feelings since the day they had met, neither wanted to act on those feelings; possibly ruining a wonderful friendship. When the Montgomery cousins planned a weekend getaway, Claire and Kingston are the only two to make it to the cabin before a snowstorm hits the pass and forces the others to turn away. With the help of lots of alcohol, being tipsy, act on those feelings; taking a chance to explore what could be if they only give each other and themselves the opportunity to find out. When the weather clears enough for them to safely venture down the mountain, they’re each unsure whether to admit to deeper feelings. After a series of passionate experiences together and apart, a misunderstanding threatens to end their budding romance. Witnessing the strong loving families and friends woven throughout the story helps to give Kingston and Claire the space and support they need to figure out their relationship.
Carrie Ann Ryan has delivered a spicy sweet, page turner of a romance within the Montgomery universe. Kingston and Claire shared a connection that was both physical and emotional; supporting each other at different times. Although the road to them finding love is far from smooth it's a journey I'm glad I was able to share.

Claire Harlow, whom we've met in the previous book (HIS SECOND CHANCE) was Phoebe Cage Dixon's best-friend. She had a crush on Kingston Montgomery since the moment she met him. They became friends but for her things started slowly to change from friendship to something else. But he always saw her as a little sister and friend.
But when she and Phoebe found themselves in danger because of a craze man who couldn't handle the fact that the lost of his business had nothing to do with the Montgomerys but his own deeds. Her whole world tilted on its axis. Now she was a shadow of her former self, so she decided to push the man she yearned for away.
Kingston Montgomery, son of Ethan Montgomery, Holland Yeaton and Lincoln McClard (SATED IN INK). He worked at Montgomery Security with his family and friends, he was good at his job until that fateful day when he was too late to prevent his best-friends from getting hurt. He tried being there for Claire but she push him away. And now he was trying to find his way through the abyss he was heading into.
They both found themselves trapped in during a snowstorm, one thing let to another and they let their walls down. They were both so afraid to put a label on what was going on between them. Then life pushed their hands and when disaster hit again, there was no more hiding their true feelings, no matter what. Loved catching up with old characters, meeting new ones. It felt like coming home after a very long time away.
ONE NIGHT WITH YOU is the seventh installment in Carrie Ann Ryan's MONTGOMERY INK LEGACY series. It was breathtaking, enticing and a must read. Carrie Ann Ryan mever disappoints. Five Golden Stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟 and Two thumbs up 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
****I received this book, without any obligation to review.****
Oh how I’ve been waiting for this story since the last book! “One Night with You” is a romantic, emotional and sweet friends to lovers romance that was a fantastic addition to the series.
After an attack that left both of them shaken to their core, Claire Harlow and Kingston Montgomery have still remained friends but have been distant from each other. Both are still trying to process and move on from that night. But when a planned getaway with friends ends up in a snowstorm and with them alone together, the chemistry they have finally comes to the surface. Now that the line has been crossed, they have to figure out what their future could be.
When a Montogomery is involved, you’re always guaranteed a swoony and romantic time. In the previous book, you could already feel the chemistry that was between these two. It was just simmering under the surface and I couldn't wait for it to boil over. Claire has a thriving business, a big heart but under was a woman still trying to overcome the past. She was working hard to rein in the feelings she was going through and keeping Kingston at arm’s length wasn’t helping. I loved Kingston and everything he stood for. He had the urge to protect and being a part of the security side of the family was the best fit for him. And after what they went through together, wanting to protect and care for Claire became second nature for him. I loved their connection and they just fit so well together. The blizzard was exactly what they needed to bring them together finally. I loved all the scenes with the rest of the family and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Teddy Hamilton and Emma Wilder were absolutely amazing as Kingston and Claire. Teddy’s performance was protective and passionate like Kingston. Emma’s narration was caring, vulnerable and she was the perfect choice to bring Claire to life.
Claire and Kingston were instantly attracted to each other, though he had his reasons for not to acting on it. Claire has done a great job of hiding her crush on Kingston, especially after a terrifying incident left her scarred both physically and mentally. She has refused to return his texts and calls, which has unfortunately fed Kingston’s feelings of guilt for not being able to protect and save her before she was injured. She finally makes contact with him again, and both say they want to keep in contact and least be friends. The just friends part turns out to be impossible to keep up when they get snowed in at a mountain cabin. It is supposed to be a getaway weekend for a large group of friends, but both Claire and Kingston reached the cabin early before a storm closed the mountain road. Inhibitions and resistance go by the wayside when they both get tipsy. Just a kiss leads to very little sleep and a whole lot of steamy interaction. But where do they go from here? Do they return to be being just friends? Friends with benefits something more?
I loved Claire and Kingston’s super hot chemistry as well as the way they support each other and truly want to lift the emotional and mental burdens the other is carrying. Claire and Kingston confusion about what is happening between them is very relatable as is being afraid to talk about it or define it. They at least acknowledge to themselves and some trusted friends that they feel a connection and they want to be with each other constantly. I enjoyed the close-knit dynamics among the friends and the extended Montgomery family. The laughter, the teasing and the unwavering love and support make this book even more enjoyable.
I will happily recommend this extraordinary book to those who love romance with a good dose of spice.
I really enjoyed this one! It pulled me in from beginning to end and held my attention the entire time. This one was more on the emotional side and most of it was Claire and Kingston working out the what they were dealing with emotionally and internally. Claire and retreated from a lot of things after the attack she went through in the last book when the stalker was after her best friend. She is still a little jumpy and she has retreated from Kingston as she reevaluating her crush and the fact that she thinks he can't and will never see her as something other than a friend. Kingston is worried about Claire and feels guilt for not getting there on time to stop/prevent the attack before it got as bad as it did. He doesn't like that she is avoiding him. He likes her but with Kane and her best friend, Phoebe, being together he never made a move on Claire. Then things change when it is supposed to be a group get together up in the mountains at a family cabin and only Claire and Kingston get up there before a snowstorm blows in and closes the roads. It allows/forces them to spend some one on one time together and when it becomes obvious that Kingston is attracted to her things take off and they have one heck of a hot night together. I love how Kingston doesn't just blow it off and while he doesn't have all the answers and realizes that maybe things could get a little weird, he doesn't avoid the fact that he wants more than just a night and likes Claire. I liked how he took that step to pursue her and never avoided it. This story definitely focuses more on relationships than major danger this time around. I really enjoyed it and thought it was well done. The narrators did a fantastic job with the characters and bringing them and the story to life.
Event planner Claire is still haunted by the trauma of a brutal attack—an incident that left her with physical and emotional scars and her best friend nearly killed. Now hyper-focused on safety and solitude, she keeps to herself when not buried in work. But when a rare weekend off lands her at the Montgomery family’s cabin, she finds herself snowed in… with Kingston, the man she’s secretly longed for.
Kingston, a security expert with a protective streak a mile wide, has always been drawn to Claire. But with their close-knit friend group, he’s stayed away out of respect and caution. Trapped together by a sudden storm, the chemistry between them ignites—fueled by a few drinks, a lot of heat, and feelings that are hard to ignore once the snow melts.
Claire’s character hit me right in the heart—she’s been through something traumatic, and you can feel the weight of it in how she tries to control her surroundings and protect herself. The way Kingston gets her, without pushing too hard, made me love him even more. He’s protective in all the right ways, and their chemistry? Whew. 🔥 Let’s just say the cabin scenes did not disappoint!
I also appreciated how their relationship wasn’t all smooth sailing—there were miscommunications and emotional hurdles that made it feel real. And of course, seeing familiar faces from past books pop up had me grinning. I love those little moments that connect all the stories.
This book was spicy, emotional, and had just the right amount of angst. Carrie Ann Ryan knows how to give us flawed, lovable characters and wrap them up in stories that keep you turning the page. If you’re a fan of forced proximity, healing journeys, and the whole, you’ll love this one.
My review is written after listening to the audio version of this book.
If you are a follower of Carrie Ann you will already have met both Kingston and Claire in earlier books in this series but if you've missed the earlier books don't worry the story is written in such a way you will still find yourself emersed in it and unable to stop reading or listening (whichever is your choice) to this highly emotional story.
Kingston and Claire met when they were out hiking but because their respective friends paired off, they never pursued anything more than friendship, despite both of them being very attracted to the other. Now her best friends are part of the Mongomery Clan and they have no way of avoiding each other.
Reluctantly Claire agrees to attend a holiday weekend at the Mongomery cabin, but a blizzard hits and the roads are closed and she and Kingston find themselves isolated in the cosy cabin overnight! They talk to each other for the first time about their feelings which leads to them spending One Night together.
Their story is very moving and at times almost broke me but despite everything their love for each other deepens and shines through in this spicy yet sweet, page turner of a romance. Although the road to their HEA is far from smooth it's a journey I'm glad I was able to share.
I'm not going to give spoilers but what I will say is this is a story I know I will listen to again and again. The narration is expertly performed by Emma Wilder and Teddy Hamilton who bring out and make the listener feel every nuance and feeling the characters experience on their way to each other.
𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐘𝐨𝐮 is the 7th book in the Montgomery Ink Legacy series by Carrie Ann Ryan, featuring a sweet, spicy, and emotional friends to lovers romance for Kingston and Claire that you don’t want to miss! After surviving a harrowing attack Claire retreats from their friendship, in an attempt to get over her unrequited feelings for Kingston. But when an unexpected blizzard leaves them stranded together, truths are forced into the open and the heat between them bubbles over. The question is… are they brave enough to really explore what they could be together?
This was a prime example of everything I love about this author’s work. You can pick up this book, whether you’ve read the rest of the series or not, and have all the context you need to fall completely in love with these characters. The world building is phenomenal with an extended family with obvious bonds that bring so much witty banter and found family vibes, as they “adopt” anyone that one of them brings into the fold. Kingston and Claire had such a clear connection that was both physical and emotional. I loved the way they supported each other at different times. There were some plot twists that took me by surprise and had me tearing up, and yet I found myself laughing out loud a short time later.🥹😅 The authenticity and relatability of the characters is truly special, and I cannot wait for the next book!!
I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶
Claire and Kingston have been friends for some time and are tiptoeing around feelings. After an attack, Claire pushes Kingston further away while trying to navigate her emotional turmoil. After a planned trip ends up falling apart because of a snowstorm, they are stuck together for the night, alone, and everything changes.
Claire and Kingstons story is heart-wrenchingly beautiful as you watch two people, who are battling their own inner demons learning to trust someone else with their heart and insecurities.
This book was a rollercoaster of emotionsthat kept you wanting more. I absolutely loved Claire because she was strong and softhearted but had a little sass to her that made you want to be her friend. Kingston was extremely hard not to fall for because he was, sweet, caring, devoted, and gave his heart and soul in everything he did.
When it came to the other characters throughout the story, you got a good sense of their backgrounds, and they just molded the story together piece by piece. The undeniable love that their friends and family have for each of them put you in awe of just how close knit and devoted they were, whether someone was blood or not.
This is my second book by Carrie Ann Ryan, and she truly knows how to pull you in from the beginning and make you feel all the feels. I highly recommend One Night With You! While this book is part of the Montgomery Ink Legacy series, it can be read as a standalone!
Welcome back to the Montgomery family! I’ve been waiting for another Legacy book and this one didn’t disappoint in the least. We get to read about Kingston & Claire this time and Claire finally gets her HEA. Afte what happened to her in book 6 of the Legacy series (His Second Chance which tells about Kane & Phoebe), I was so excited to see Claire overcome her fears and start living life again. Thankfully Kingston was there to give her the support and love she needed. But don’t think that Claire doesn’t do a fair share of supporting Kingston too! His overdeveloped need to help others and solve their problems cause him issues in this book, but Claire proves she can be what he needs too. Besides watching these two fall in love, I adore that the Montgomery clan (both blood related and chosen people alike) are such a large part of this story. It’s always wonderful to read about the lives of the couples we’ve met before. Don’t worry though if you aren’t caught up with the multiple books about this clan. Carrie Ann Ryan is the master of incorporating these easter egg scenarios without making the reader feel confused or lost. I don’t feel like every author has this skill, but Ms. Ryan sure does! I highly recommend this series in general, but this book specifically made me reevaluate how lucky I am and how I can give back to those who are facing struggles. Yes, you’ll laugh at the antics and cry at the sad moments, but you’ll end this book knowing everything is as it should be in the main character’s relationship!
I'm so glad we finally got Claire and Kingston's story. I have patiently waited for their story since reading His Second Chance. Ms. Ryan delivers an emotionally charged and beautifully written storyline I could not put down. The way that she pulls us in with the depth of her characters and how relatable they are makes this book and her other one so easy to get lost in. One Night With You is all about Kingston and Claire and how they dance around the feelings hiding just under the surface. Guilt, nightmares, wanting to make things right and avoidance are what cause the two of them to have an unusual relationship. Kingston lives with the guilt of Claire's attack and feels he should have been able to keep her safe. Claire lives with the nightmares of the attack but does not feel that Kingston should feel guilty. Being forced to spend one night together has them opening up about what happened and how they can move forward. True feelings are shared and the reasons as to why Claire was avoiding Kingston after the attack. I love how all the Montgomery clan, blood-related, married into the family and the friends who have been adopted, all could see the relationship blossom between Claire and Kingston. The way they all were there for one another no matter what was happening. Whether they were helping Kingston with the children's cancer center or helping him see Claire was the one for him. I can't wait for the next installment in this series. Crew and Aria's story, from the teaser at the end of this book, has me intrigued.
Kingston Montgomery owns a security specialist company with some of his family. Claire Harlowe was kidnapped with her best friend Phoebe and was injured during the rescue. Kingston feels guilty for not preventing Claire from getting kidnapped and hurt and he tries to keep in touch after the rescue but she ghosts him.
They are in the same friends group but she manages to avoid him. Kingston can't stop thinking about her but she is best friends with Phoebe and she is living with his cousin, Kane so they see each other at get togethers. Claire can't face Kingston since she remembers that he was there when she was stabbed and he was the one holding her wound when they found her. She has had a crush on Kingston since they first met.
After he donated bone marrow to a friend of his, Claire realizes she has treated him poorly and he was only trying to be a friend. They get to talking again and their friendship is back to normal, but a snowstorm comes in when they are scheduled to have a friends get together up in the mountains and they are the first and only ones that made it up to the cabin so they are stranded and too much liquor and alone time and they had a one night stand.
I loved Kingston, he is so sweet but he doesn't know how he feels about Claire other than he can't stop thinking about her. Claire's crush is growing the more she gets to know Kingston and it isn't long before she is IN LOVE with him. I loved the book, can't wait for Crew's story!
I received an advance copy from BookFunnel for my honest opinion.
Kingston is co-owner of Montgomery Security with his family, and Claire is a successful event planner. Since being stabbed by Phoebe's stalker, Claire has been pulling away and hiding, especially from Kingston. Kingston feels guilty for not being able to stop Claire from being hurt and is frustrated she refuses to answer his calls or texts. While Kingston is recuperating from giving bone marrow to his friend, Eddie, Claire shows up at his house to check up on him and to apologize for pushing him away. Claire agrees to go on a Montgomery cousin's family vacation in the mountains and finds herself stranded alone with Kingston at the cabin during a snowstorm. Will Kingston and Claire finally give into their attraction to each other? Will Kingston and Claire continue their relationship once they are off the mountain? Can Claire help Kingston work through his feelings of never being enough when Eddie unexpectedly dies? Will Kingston get to Claire in time when her car is run off the road and into an icy lake? Will Kingston and Claire finally admit their feelings for each other? I loved One Night With You by Carrie Ann Ryan! Kingston and Claire are an amazing couple with explosive chemistry. Kingston's parents and siblings are a riot. I love Claire's relationship with her brother and her niece and nephew. I would highly recommend getting One Night With You and the other books in the Montgomery Ink Legacy series by Carrie Ann Ryan. I received an ARC copy of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Claire Harlow has had a crush on Kingston Montgomery since she first met him, and she has been on his radar for just as long. Neither will take it further as their best friends are a couple and so if they didn't work out, it could be uncomfortable. When Claire is attacked and Kingston is the one to save her, she knows that she can no longer keep her feelings for him to herself, so she basically ghosts him. When Claire and Kingston get stranded alone in a cabin during a snowstorm, their chemistry combusts and they spend a wonderful night together. When they come back to civilization, both realize that one night was never going to be enough. Kingston is constantly trying to 'save' people, but always feeling like he is failing - he didn't get to Claire soon enough, he couldn't help his friend, all of which make him feel vulnerable. He feels like Claire wouldn't be so afraid or isolate herself if he had been able to save her sooner. These two are adorable. They build on their friendship to form a relationship, and all they have to do to ensure it lasts is acknowledge their feelings, but that is sometimes easier said than done!
This is a wonderfully heartwarming, emotional story. Ms. Ryan weaves a tale of love, trust, family with plenty of spice and a beautiful HEA. The character development is relatable and the story is a page turner that keeps you engaged until the very end.
I always love reading a Carrie Ann Ryan book. It’s like comfort food. Relaxing on my favorite reading chair, a fuzzy blanket around me and whatever drink I fancy at the time. After reading His Second Chance, bk 6, and couldn’t wait to read this book. BTW each book is a standalone you don’t have to have read any of the previous books to enjoy this. The story pulled me in right away. I couldn’t stop reading. Both Claire and Kingston have personal issues to deal with. Heavy and painful. And this made the story emotional and heartbreaking. Claire is still trying to deal with and process what she’s been through. She takes a step back from society and socializing. Even her crush on Kingston has taken a back seat. Kingston is dealing with his own problems but in the forefront is Claire. He’s worried about her. And also feels guilty for not getting to Claire sooner. He’s also upset that she’s avoiding him. But things change for them when they are stranded together due to a snowstorm. They have a an incredible night together. It’s hot and intense. The physical chemistry is definitely there between Claire and Kingston. But what they have goes beyond passion. It’s the emotional and spiritual connection that they have that makes their story that much more compelling and beautiful. Their story is moving and compelling. And it wouldn’t be complete without the rest of the Montgomery family and their love for each other. *4.5 stars*
