Twenty years ago, the magical land of Thimhallan was destroyed with the forging of the Darksword, leaving a small group of survivors exiled on Earth. Only Joram, who created the Darksword, remained behind in the shattered land. But another catastrophe beckons, as an alien race plans to annihilate the remaining colonists. But Joram has forged another Darksword, and Earth's leaders see it as their only salvation. And it is up to Saryon, an old friend of Joram's, to put the sword in safe hands and possibly save the planet.
Margaret Edith Weis is an American fantasy and science fiction author of dozens of novels and short stories. At TSR, Inc., she teamed with Tracy Hickman to create the Dragonlance role-playing game (RPG) world. She is founding CEO and owner of Sovereign Press, Inc and Margaret Weis Productions, licensing several popular television and movie franchises to make RPG series in addition to their own. In 1999, Pyramid magazine named Weis one of The Millennium's Most Influential Persons, saying she and Hickman are "basically responsible for the entire gaming fiction genre". In 2002, she was inducted into the Origins Hall of Fame in part for Dragonlance.
I was enjoying the book and story well enough until we got to around the halfway point at which time the setting/reality of the story changed and my enjoyment and interest dropped. The ending was decent but slightly anti-climatic and unsatisfying.
Love that this sequel was written, because it definitely filled in a lot of the gaps from the trilogy. It tied the whole story together more neatly, and put everything in a much bigger perspective, which was really nice. The plot was unpredictable and surprising, and all in all this has been a great 4-book series that I recommend to anyone who likes fantasy (and sci-fi).
I’m not exactly sure what I feel about this book. It has some interesting elements of fantasy and science fiction. I felt the story was rushed in the end and it was pretty one dimensional. I liked the idea of aliens and earth and the futuristic air car, but this series would have been way better if it was part of 2 trilogies. I felt the 4th book tried to go in that direction but it was crammed into one book. I mean time travel and alternate timelines? Super cool. I liked that, but it had no depth. Anyways, I’m not surprised either so all in all I still enjoyed the series

What to say about this polarizing novel… for fans of the first series, you may be upset by this fourth installment. It definitely is not the conclusion we wanted or needed. In fact it’s more of a series in it’s own crammed into one small book. Without spoiling anything, it raises more questions than answers and it ends on what I would say is another cliffhanger.
SPOILER ALERT:
I have no real life friends who have read this yet, so I want to discuss what I like and dislike about this book here. First off, the biggest problem I have is the errors the author makes in the beginning? Most notably, the fact that in book 3 Cardinal Radiosk dies at the end of the book. But in this book he lives to become the Bishop. Another remission is that Mosiah specifically states he becomes a were tiger in the first book when in reality he becomes a werewolf? Less important but even more jarring. Like did they not read their own books? Why would an author misremember his past book. And this isn’t to do with the timeline shifts since these things happened long ago. And I’m not going to go into the idiosyncrasies of the main plot, but the ending seems like just another cliffhanger because they are dropped off on another planet by Merlyn. And that’s it? What’s to stop the aliens from finding them again? Why were the aliens afraid of the darksword when they just used it to run away? Is the Almin God? Because his final plan seems not thought out and lackluster. And humanity is always living at the whim of Simkin? That’s the takeway? I expected better, but all in all this was a good book. I think i would have liked it more as a stand alone. If you haven’t read the trilogy definitely read this. If you have, be warned you may not like what you find.

I really liked this series back when I was younger and this is a single book sequel published quite a few years later. It was fun to revisit some old characters (Simkin in particular). And the initial third of the book laid out an interesting mystery. But the back half of the book was a bit disappointing with the group basically just going from place to place without having a clear plan. The final showdown was also underwhelming with the group just showing up to “win” (and a hollow win where they were saved by transporting to a new world but most of Earth and humanity was destroyed). Overall, liked the setting and the characters but the plotting was lacking and there was no real moral to the story.
some character from the previous books appears sadly not with the same definition. Although the original trilogy led many holds, the way those gaps are addressed here is rather lazy and disappointing. Not a bad light read, however, if you were satisfied with the trilogy, better just leave it like that and skip this one.
This book left me without much opinion whatsoever, except for another less-than-satisfying ending. Full spoiler review: http://ossuslibrary.tripod.com/Bk_Fan...
Absolutely love Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman's writing, it just flows beautifully, very witty and funny, great story and conclusion to The Dark Sword series, highly recommend...😁
I read this trilogy in High school at a time when I had little interest in fantasy ( read either classic literature or horror) I found the trilogy absoloutly enrapturing but was sadly forced to give it back to the friend that loaned it to me. Years later when I started reading heavily again I started searching for this trilogy again but it was sadly out of print and unobtainable. Recently I was able to find a complete set at a used book store along with a sequel book I never knew about. I have never been so happy re-reading a set of books. The only thing that made this reintroduction to this universe again better was finding while I adored the original trilogy the sequel was even more amazing and I tore through it in no time.
I read through many of the negative reviews on here about this book and its clear that most of the people providing negative reviews don't grasp the complexities and intruges of these books and are purely looking for hack slash and big flash and these books are too deep for them. and if someone hasn't read the entire trilogy they realy cannot even begin to speak to the truth of these books
I remember being crazy about the original series, but have to admit that it was quite awhile ago when I read it and therefore, did not remember everything. I was impressed by the way that they had reminders sprinkled throughout the story so you could get a memory jog.
I will say that I did like this book but really didn't love it to death. I think if I had read it when it was new and my memory was fresh that I would have gotten more out of it.
I do not mind mixing magic with scifi, but even for me this theme went little bit over board. In addition to magic world meeting high tech through space travel author introduces in this book time travel and hopping between parallel universes. Although I liked this book it felt little bit too cheesy and kept you looking for what else can be added to mix to make it even more ridiculous.

Sadly this book is just riding on the coat-tails of the excellent Darksword trilogy. When I pick up a swords & sorcery title, that's what I expect to get... not some boring, earthly, political scenario, with a splash of modern, military manoeuvring thrown in. This book is a mish-mash of genres, which frankly doesn't work and by the time I had reached chapter five, I'd had enough.
More Margaret Weis that I could not get enough of as a teenager. The Darksword trilogy was great filler in between the many Dragonlance novels. These are the perfect young adult fantasy reads.
No tengo idea de porque la leí. Me gusto la evolución de algunos personajes, pero como siempre el final fue espantoso.. deus ex machina.. en casi todo lo que leo de ellos..
