I really liked this series back when I was younger and this is a single book sequel published quite a few years later. It was fun to revisit some old characters (Simkin in particular). And the initial third of the book laid out an interesting mystery. But the back half of the book was a bit disappointing with the group basically just going from place to place without having a clear plan. The final showdown was also underwhelming with the group just showing up to “win” (and a hollow win where they were saved by transporting to a new world but most of Earth and humanity was destroyed). Overall, liked the setting and the characters but the plotting was lacking and there was no real moral to the story.
