Tension.

Aggression.

Betrayal.

How much stress can the human body endure before it folds in on itself? Whatever it is, I’m definitely reaching the peak. Things are supposed to be downhill from here, but my brother is hell-bent on saving a girl who isn’t his in the first place...

...and he can’t do it alone.

Do we even have what it takes to bring Joel's girl back from depths of the hell Skull has imprisoned her in? Or will our attempt be thwarted by Skull and the men he controls?

It’s a dangerous game Joel's playing, and it’s one that affects us all.

☆ I received an ARC via the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! ☆

Shattered. Yep, that's exactly how I felt at the end of this book. While by the beginning of the book I think readers can already predict the events that are about to take place and Jai's worst nightmare, nothing prepared me for how things unraveled.

You would think by Jai finally winning his lost brother back that things would be nice and peachy between the two of them, but it's not. In fact, it's far from it. With Joel wanting to go back and rescue his girl from Skull's tyrannical clutches, tensions are on and so are the stakes.

And with Jai and Emily coming to terms with how deep their relationship really is, can they admit to their feelings and survive what's coming their way and make it back to each other alive?

Gah, I NEED MORE, Skyla!!

Rage & Bullets by Skyla Madi (New York Crime Kings – Book 4)
After finally getting his brother back and admitting his feeling for Emily, Jai life should be all set. Unfortunately Joel needs to go back to get Monique and has asked for his brothers help. Huss and Ted, as well as a MC chapter are going to help. While the planning is put into effect, Emily comes to terms with her feelings. She knows she is in love with Jai and this scares her. When the boys finally have the plan in place, Emily convinces Jai to let her come with them. He concludes to only allow her to stay in the car with Huss. While they fight Skulls men and fight for their lives, someone has double crossed them. Emily is not there when Jai gets back. When Skull gets Emily he taunts her. Can she survive his game? Can Jai walk away or will he go back to find her? Who can he trust? Will Skull be as evil as Emily fears? This story had lots of plot twists and full of action. It ends on a cliff hanger and will leave you wanting to download the next instalment. Overall this series is gripping.

“Our gaze is locked, the subtlest smile tugging at the corners of his lips. My heart flips. My palms sweat. Slowly, he cranes his neck and kisses me on the mouth. My breath catches in my throat, the sound lost in the howl of the wind, and his tongue sweeps mine. My eyes flutter shut. The ground liquefies. Time and space falls away.”

I am completely addicted to this series. Jai and Emily’s story continues in Shattered (Round 4) and the twists and turns keep getting better and better. The relationship between Emily and Jai is uncontrollable.
I really fell in love with them as a couple in this Round. Their connection is so intense and their chemistry is off the charts hot.

“I see all of her. From the scar on her left ankle to the spattering of light freckles on her cheeks. She is perfection. My perfection.” -Jai

The one sexy scene, I think I am going to need a cold shower every day for the next thirty days just to get over that one. Jezzus… one of the best I’ve ever read.

The anxiety and emotional turmoil the characters go through in this Round is consuming. Skyla’s writing is phenomenal and keeps getting better and better with everything I read from her. She is able to install legitimate fear in you while reading a villain, heart pounding passion when she writes the love story, and all time high anxiety when she writes suspense. She is most definitely one of my favorite must read authors.
I’m shocked to the turns this story took and by how some of the characters reacted. My heart hurt for them and I was so angry with others. I hurt for Emily’s insecurities and I fell madly in love with Jai’s commitment to get Emily to fall for him…

“She is my person…and I fucking love her. I love her so much it makes me sick and, as luck would have it, the only girl I’ve ever loved will never accept it because she doesn’t think she’s worthy of love.” -Jai

He has this reoccurring dream about Emily and… *SIGH*…when he finally tells her the end I wanted to weep in tears of absolute lust…a total *SWOON* moment. He is just an amazing character.

If you are looking for a darker, deep, intense story with the perfect amount of drama and suspense mixed with romance then this is a series you cannot pass up.

I had quite a solid gap between Rage & Bullets and Smoke & Metal. But didn't have any issue picking up the story again. In honest with a story like Jai and Emily's, its hard to forget. As with all the books they pretty much pick up where the last book left off and Rage & Bullets is no different.

I hate writing reviews for books in series' as its hard not to give away anything. I will say you need to read all these books and they are not standalones. I will also add that I won't give spoilers in this review but will concentrate on the storyline, how I felt about it and the characters like usual.

Rage & Bullets spends 33% with Joel trying to talk Jai into doing something. Honestly, not a lot else happens in that time and although it was great for me who had a break from the other books for some time getting to know the characters again. I do feel some people may have found it a bit arduous. The next 45% is spent getting ready for the 'job' I'm going to call it, again that's not a spoiler. I loved Ted and Huss' banter in this time, especially with Emily. There was also a lot of relationship building with Emily and Jai. I liked the night out, that made for interesting reading, especially the drunk. Could he be right? (For those who have read this book, your thoughts?). The last 22% of the book is spend in one mass amount of chaos. Like the other books, nothing ever runs smoothly for Jai or his brother Joel and Rage & Bullets is no different. I loved the climax of this book, the twist was a nice addition (Predictable but appreciated) and the ending was perfect.

Rage & Bullets was a one sitting read for me. It got me re-caught up with the story again and made me remember why I started the New York Crime Kings books in the first place. Although this was only a solid 3.5 star read for me (That first 33% did drag) I did enjoy the story and will be continuing with the other books shortly.

This is the forth book in this series and they must be read in order. They managed to find and rescue Joel at the end of the last book. But, he isn’t the same man Jai remembers. He has tattoos from his neck all the way down to his toes, he smokes, eats greasy food, and his personality is completely different. For the first time Jai is second guessing his mission to find his brother. Then things get even more complicated for Jai when Joel says he wants to go back in and save the girl he fell in love with. If it wasn’t going to be hard enough the girl is one of Skull’s girls. Now Jai must decide he will run away with Emily and leave his brother to rescue her himself or if he will risk everything to help his brother. More than just Jai is at risk. It puts their sister Jessica, Emily, and others in danger if they go back for the girl. What will Jai decide? Will he be able to come to terms with this differences in his brother? This book was a bit more emotional than the others so far. Jai and Emily’s relationship is blooming but Emily has lots of doubts about herself worth. She has been let down so many times in her life that it is hard for her to accept the way Jai feels about her and sometimes even her feelings for him. I am loving this series more and more. The characters and going through so much and I am falling in love with Jai and Emily the more I read about them. Joel can be an ass sometimes. He doesn’t seem to realize that going back in for the girl puts them all in danger but he doesn’t seem to care. I can’t wait to see what happens next. Fantastic series Skyla.
I was given this book in return for an honest review.

This series just gets better and better,

Jai has rescued his brother Joel but the nightmare just doesn't seem to go away. Joel needs to go back to get his girl Monique, he cant leave her in the hands of Skull knowing what he will do to her.

Jai and Joel's relationship isn't what Jai expected it to be, he has changed and Jai just cant seem to get his head around it. Joel is begging for Jai help in returning to get Monique out of Skulls hands.

Jai and Emily have acknowledged their feelings for each other and now they have to put this to the test. Jai will help Joel but it could mean that they don't get through it and they are putting all their lives at risk !

Emily is not being left behind again she cant cope with waiting to see if he comes back for her, putting their trust is Huss Emily stays with him in the hope that the plan works and they all make it out alive !

The plan has worked ,,, or so they think. Jai gets back to see that Emily is not there ! They put all their trust in Huss but they didn't know that Huss has had to do what he done to ensure the safety if his child that they all knew nothing about !

Has he lost her for good this time, Skull is never going to give her up and let her escape again. Jai knows that she is going to be suffering in his hands,,,again !!

AAARRGGHH !! I don't know how much more i can take of this series but at the same time i want so much more ! Im literally on the edge of my seat with my heart in my mouth ! Each book i have read in the run up to this has been thrilling but they are getting better and better. Skyla Madi is definitely a new favorite author for me. These books will give you all the emotions possible !

Genre: Romantic Suspense, action
Standalone: - No Book 4 of the New York Crime Kings Series. Cliffhanger!
Part of a Series: Yes Book 4 of the New York Crime Kings Series
POV: Jai & Emily
Steam Level: Toasty
4/5

Let's be honest! I hate cliffhangers. I hate cliffhangers with a vengeance. Their are only two reasons this book gets 4 stars:
1. I read this in the box set of books 1-4 which I snagged when it was free. We're now on book 4 (or at least 7) and while the story builds and moves this is getting ridiculous. If I had to continue buying the books to finish the story I wouldn't, not at $3.99 each with each book being under 200 pages which I finish in a day or two.

2. The writing: Skyla Madi knows how to build an intense story with just the right amount of action, humor, and steam. And, while I will admit the writing is great and holds my interest I'm starting to become a little irritated. My suggestion would be to read these in the Kindle Unlimited program.

The plan has been executed and the rescue is enament. The danger and fear drive the characters to their limits, physically and mentally. The unexpected turn of events not only will affect the characters but the reader too.

Skull’s reach is undeniable and the threat of death pushes the anticipation to a new level. The overwhelming need to look over their shoulders has the adrenaline flowing with every page. Each page allowing the fear to seep into your own soul as these characters fight for their sanity and their lives.

Saving a loved one is an extraordinary feeling that overcomes Jai, but the devastation is felt when Joel announces he has to go back. The fear becomes more than one can take and with the realization that no matter what you do or what you have done, doesn’t matter. Knowing what they are about to do will have you up all night with dread, but also hope for a future.

Wow, Just.. WOW!! This book is something else only! F*ckin' fabulous!

This book has so much heart!! Skyla Madi never disappoints, and this time I feel awed by her story.

Slow burning, full of passion and wit, Rage & Bullets was an unexpected read.

This book broke me, it has so many emotions. More emotions than the previous books.

This book was amazing! I loved every minute of it. It hooked me from the first page and never let me go.

The book is very-well written and captivating.

This has a bit of drama...not so much true angst, but more heart tugging emotions.

This was a heart-thumping fast-paced story set in the world.

He has his girl and he has his brother so it’s time for happily ever after right? Wrong. Joel needs to go get his girl, rescue her from Skull and that means they are all going back. With help from his friends and some convincing from his Kitten Jai comes to terms with the fact that his brother is a changed man, a man that has fallen in love with the wrong girl. War has been declared and another battle is fought and lost...

Book 4 is angst filled and the depth of the devious nature of Skull is revealed as the plot twists and turns, showing that Skull is one step ahead and totally ruthless. Sacrifices are made, love is exploited and friendships betrayed.

A four and a half star read.

Now this was great!

Action -packed, hot, well-written and intense.

Jai and Emily is hiding from Skull ( Crime lord) with Jai’s brother ( and two more guys). Jai’s brother “Joel” wants Jai’s help to get the woman he loves ( Monique) back from Skull.

Jai is such a brilliant character, and Emily.. sweet tough Emily. I need the next book to know what will happen to her!

This book broke me, it has so many emotions. More emotions than the previous books. In this book Jai and Emily's relationship continues to blossom, which I love. Though it's complicated by Jai's brother and his wanting to go rescue the girl he loves. This gets them tangled with Skull again. It is action packed, intense, well written, hot and exhilarating.

An okay read.

Pro: All the books in this series pick up straight from where the last one ended skipping the unnecessary recaps/character introductions

Con: I feel like this series could/should have ended on book 4 and it doesn’t. It starting to go back around again and I’m not convinced that I’m interested enough to read on further

Oh I love Jai and Emily! This story is so amazing! I loved it since the first book!

The Story:
Jai finally got his brother back and hopes to start his life with Emily in Italy but when Joel asks him for help to get his girlfriend back from Skull, he is torn between helping his brother with this difficult task where they all might get killed or to run with Emily far away to have a normal life as far as possible – since Skull will not stop hunting them.

I think it’s sad that the books from this series are so short because I need a few pages to get back into the story and when I finally found my rhythm the story gets really amazing and ends really fast. Now I have to wait again for the next book! I want it now!!!

This was again super suspenseful and it ends in a Cliffhanger that I really can’t stand!
Let’s just say that Jai and Emily are both going through a tough time now, both very different but f*cking hard nonetheless.

Gah!!! This is such a crazy story and i need MORE!!!! 4.5 stars!!!!
*Spoiler summary*
Again this picks up right where book 3 left off. Jai, Joel, and Emily are hunkered down at the lake house. Joel (Jais older bro) convinces Jai to help him get Monique, his love, out of the clutches of Skull at his compound. Joel also convinces Huss and Ted to help in the effort as well. Then he gets an MC chapter to help as well as the president is Crow whom they helped get out of the underground fight ring when they fled. Emily and Jai finally profess their love for one another. Jai doesnt want her coming along but he compromises by agreeing to let her stay back in the car with Huss. The seige is a success and they get out with Monique and a barely alive Ted. Only to find back at the car that Huss betrayed them and gave Skull Emily on a silver platter. Skulls men threatened to hurt Huss' 7 yr old son if he didnt go along with giving up Emily. The ending has Emily chained, hanging by her arms, naked, and Skull saying, "You didnt really think you could outrun me forever, did you, Kitty Kat?"

You’d think he’d be relieved at getting Joel out alive? That it’s all finally over? But no … can anything go to quite to plan? There’s a whole lot of emotions running riot in this book, some good and some bad. It really shows how human these characters are, flaws and all.

I always think it’s a risk, doing something that readers might not like, but if it really is part of who the character is then it works. We have seen enough of these characters to really understand who they are and what makes them tick. So it comes as no surprise that Jai struggles with what to do when making a decision about going back into that world, or not.

Our kitten; lioness, strong, independent, insecure, gritty and completely one of a kind. She is so “the girl next door” it is easy to see yourself in her shoes. To be the one making these decisions and supporting those who have supported you, that it is so easy to slip into this world with them.

Another amazingly gripping novella leaving you wanting more, can’t wait for Ink & Bone!

Sucked right in!

Absolutely love. I could not wait for this to release but then read it all in just a short few hours. Normally I wait til a series is complete before reading but I just can't help myself. Skyla did an incredible job. Jai is so dreamy! This series is becoming one of my all time favorites. Seriously, Ruined (book 5) cannot come soon enough! I will be FB stalking you Skyla for future book details ;) Be aware tho that these books end in cliffy's so if you are just stumbling upon them I would wait for for the completion, then binge! This book is just as good if not better than book 1, 2, and 3. Can't wait to find out how it will all end!!
