When Zach Reynolds discovers his latest case shares too many similarities with a series of old murders, he’ll partner with Shauna O’Rourke from the state’s cold case division. Together they’ll uncover a deadly danger their victims never saw coming.
NY Times Bestselling Author, Lori Ryan, combines heartwarming romance with stop-your-heart mystery in the second book in this spin off from her bestselling Sutton Capital Series. This book is book two in the series, but it can be read as a stand-alone book in any order.
Zach, a cop, and his partner, Ronan, are investigating the disappearances and subsequent murders of two young woman, both students at a private school. When evidence points to similarities between their cases and those from thirty years ago, they're instructed to visit the cold case division, and there Zach is confronted with his own personal past.
Shauna loves her job working cold cases, and though her personal life took a bad turn a few years ago, something that scarred her more than she realized, her professional life is going well. But then Zach enters her life again, bringing with him not only memories of their short, yet intense, "relationship," but also murders that closely resemble those in her division's files.
Zach knows he was a jerk years ago when he and Shauna spent time together. It wasn't even a relationship per se, as their time together always involved sex, never any sharing on his part, and while no one has compared since for either of them, Shauna wanted more than Zach could give.
Zach has changed, become a man worthy of Shauna, in the years since they've been apart. As for Shauna, she's changed as well, but a failed marriage and one instance of physical abuse, was enough for Shauna to be wary of any man, even Zach. But, try as she might, as they're working together, she can't deny he's different, more, and he intrigues her just as much as he did then.
Zach is determined to get a second chance with Shauna, the pull between them stronger than ever, and he knows if he lets her get away again, he'll always regret it.
Can Zach, along with his partner, Ronan, and Shauna solve the murders, past and present? Are they truly connected? Could the same person be committing them? Will Shauna give her and Zach another chance? Will he finally share himself with her? What happens when Shauna is in danger? Will Zach lose her just as they're realizing how special their connection is? Will they get a HEA?
One-click now and follow along as two people are reunited professionally, only to realize their personal connection never faded.

This was an excellent addition to this series of books with two detectives reconnecting after six years and forced to work together to solve three murders that were somehow linked to the past. It was amazing how they solved these crimes and serial cold case murders from the past that Shauna was assigned in her cold case department. When Zach's police department was brought in to collaborate since the coroner found the same lipstick and rope that was used in the old case, the two police departments had to work together. How they reacted when they saw they had no choice but do their jobs professionally and not let their feelings get in the way until they put the criminals behind bars was very commendable but that was exactly what they did too. It was not easy for either one of them because they still had feelings for each other. It was exciting to follow along as the clues to solving these murders were revealed and the twisted murderer was caught but not without Zach and Shauna risking their lives to do so. I was happy to read that Zach and Shauna got their well deserved happily ever after in the end in each other's arms and proved love was better the second time around. I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to the next exciting release to this series in the future.
Young girls went missing & then were found later. Nicknamed the Marsh Killer, the killer was never found & the case went cold. Thirty years later, another girl was found. She'd been killed in the same manner but their were subtle differences. Was the killer back? Was it a copycat?
Zach Reynolds and Shauna O'Rourke had a fling several years ago. After they broke up, she went on to the police academy, was married & divorced, and now works in the Cold Case Department. Zach was in the military but got out to help raise his niece. He remembered the way Shauna was enthused about her career & decided to make a difference & join the force. Now they have to work together. Can they get past the breakup? Will she give him a second chance?
Lori Ryan has written another exceptional romantic suspense. The story line is well thought out & flows well. The plot moves at a quick pace with twists & turns that keep the reader enthralled. The characters are well developed & realistic. The secondary characters have hidden personality quirks or flaws that keep you guessing until the killer is unmasked. The romance took a backseat which makes sense with the subject matter. I can't wait to see what she comes up with for the next one.
An excellent second installment! I am a huge romantic suspense fan, and this one was fantastic! It is a second chance love story, which I always adore. Zach and Shauna dated while he was still in the military, but their relationship, while explosive, was superficial. Zach wants to prove to Shauna that he is a different man now, and he gets the chance when they work together to solve a new string of murders.
This story is a bit heavier on the suspense than the romance, which I think was a necessity for this subject matter. It also discusses sexual assault, which is very timely given everything in the news recently. The plot was engaging and moved at a fast pace. I was totally surprised by the killer, which always makes me happy!
This book had everything I was looking for, and I can't wait for book 3!
*I received an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
Excellent romantic suspense tale! The second book in this series was truly entertaining.
This was an intriguing murder mystery that Zach and Shauna had to solve. There were actually two mysteries and they needed to determine if they were connected, or if they were being distracted from one mystery by trying to solve the other.
The " who done it?", or the "who was doing it?" was not obvious at all. At least not obvious to me. That was one of the best parts of the book, trying to figure out what was going on and who was involved.
I also liked the fact that the romance between Zach and Shauna did not overwhelm the rest of the story.
I would recommend this book if you are looking for something that will keep you fully engaged from beginning to end.

Zack Reynolds and Shauna O’Rourke have a history together. Now they are together again only this time because of the murders of several young girls from a private school in town. It looks like a serial killer may have come back years later to take up where he left off.
I was hooked from the very first page and liked Zack and Shauna’s characters right from the start. They were evenly matched with neither trying to be the “alpha” in the relationship. The plot was really good and kept me turning the pages until I was done, in one sitting. Lori Ryan writes a great “who done it” with a little romance thrown in for good measure. While I prefer it the other way around, this was a great story and just when I thought I knew who the bad guy was, the surprise was on me! Another hit for this author!
Latent Danger is a fabulous romantic suspense by Lori Ryan. Ms. Ryan has delivered a well-written book that will have you at times, sitting on the edge of your seat. Zach is a police detective with the New Haven PD and when a new case ties in with a cold case he has to work with Shauna, a state cold case detective. Zach and Shauna's story is loaded with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. This book hooked me from page one and held me hostage until the last. I totally enjoyed reading Latent Danger and look forward to reading more from Lori Ryan in the future. Latent Danger is book 2 of the On the Line Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wow!! Lori Ryan has given us another awesome book, in Latent Danger!! Romance Suspense at it's finest! I loved this book, & thoroughly enjoyed reading it! Zach & Shauna met years ago. Today, they are both detectives, & have been assigned, to work together on a current case, combined with old cold cases. Zach & Shanna chemistry is undeniable, but they know that can't go there again. Their cases involve missing high school girls, that turn up murdered. The current case's MO are very similar, to the cold cases from 30 years ago. Is it a copy cat, or did the killer come out of retirement? Hold on the your seat! With lots of twist, & turns in this story, you'll be shocked by the ending. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR EVERYONE TO READ!!!
This is another great suspense romance novel by Lori Ryan. Two detectives get drawn into a new batch of murders that have a ring of a cold case. But who could be doing it, the original killer or a copycat? Zach and Shauna have a history that precedes their being together on this case. Is the heat still there? Dare they act on it or remain the consumate professionals? The novel has plenty of twists and turns as we view the case through the alternating viewpoints of Shauna and Zach. It was full of surprise and suspense. I put this as another winner by Lori Ryan. Also, I noted a lack of distractions by poor editing. I received an ARC copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Zach and Shauna once had a fling but the relationship was purely physical and didn't last. Now they're working together on a murder case. Young girls are being targeted and it's up to them to figure out how and why. Both realize the attraction they once had for each other is still there but they have no intention of acting on it. Their priority is the case , they have to act before the killer strikes again.
This one kept me turning the pages wanting to know what happened next. The author did an excellent job of masking the guilty party, keeping you guessing as the suspense continued to build. If you're a fan of romantic suspense this is one you don't want to miss.
Zach is a cop and he and his partner are called to a crime scene. A teenage girl has been killed and left in the woods. After examining the body, they realize it is very similar to a cold case from thirty years ago. Shauna is a detective with the states cold case unit. Her and Zach have a history and now she is the liaison between the police and cold case division. Two more girls are found dead and they have to find the killer before they strike again. Very good. I honestly did not know who the killer was. Zach was an ass when they were together before and is hoping Shauna will give him another chance. Shauna is a tough woman but her ex has left her not wanting to get involved with another man.
This book is filled with suspense, with some romance on the side. Zach and Shauna knew each other before – before he was a cop. Now they’re both working on the same case – murders of teenage girls. These murders look suspiciously like a cold case that involved murders thirty years ago. Zach and Shauna have both matured since their time together. Maybe they have a chance this time.
Lori Ryan has written a wonderful suspense. I really enjoyed this book, and I realized I would make a lousy detective! I saw all of the dots, but couldn’t seem to connect them. Prepare yourself – this is a good one!
Zach & Shauna brought back together because of similarities between murder cases 30 years apart. This story has a great flow to crime and the renewed attraction between Zach and Shauna after 6 years since spending time only in bed. Zach has matured to be a better man and Shauna has found the man of her future. This is the 2nd book in this series and flow and romance is outstanding. I have given this story a 5***** rating and is a must reading for everyone who loves Romantic Thrillers.
WOW!!! A cold case murder is now an active case that brings together Zach and Shauna together to solve the case of missing girls. Zach and Shauna have a past history, Zach wold love to be more than friends but Shauna thinks it's better not let her heart get involved again, until her life is threatened.
Plenty of mystery and suspense along with the burning romance of Zach and Shauna that will keep you turning the pages. Did not figure out who dun it until the end. A great read that I highly recommend.
This was a fascinating story. It had a unique and very clever storyline. I enjoyed it immensely and highly recommend it. Once I started reading it I could not put it down. The twists and turns were non-stop.... They kept you guessing and intrigued!! All the characters were interesting and there was a lovely romance between Zach and Shauna that made the book even more enjoyable. If you like a good romantic suspense giive yourself a treat and read this highly entertaining story. 😇
Ms Ryan gives us another engaging story filled with suspense, intense nail biting moments, murders and romance. Definitely not a story for the faint of heart. The attraction between Zach and Shauna was palatable. Will they have a second chance in the midst of their investigation ? Definitely, another entertaining , romance thriller by this talented author. I was gifted this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This was really a great story, yes it had romance, but the suspense and thrill was spot on. This is a great series. I was lucky to receive this book as an arc. I have always been honest. I was not disappointed. I read it in 1 day. It was exciting and the story was really a constant, easy read. There was no confusion. Another awesome read by Lori Ryan. Oh yes, I still bought the book. You will not be disappointed.
This is definitely a page turner with an edge of your seat vibe. Zach and Shauna who share a romantic past are brought together to solve a missing persons case. Is it possible that it is linked to a 30 year old cold case file? A suspense, mystery, as well as a second chance at love book. A must read.
Loved it! I couldn't put it down, read in a day. It was so intense at times I was on the edge of my seat. The sexual tension between Zach and Shauna was out of this world. I'm a huge fan of Lori's work and this did not disappoint.
Wow! What a great book. Great characters including teens that really show how self involved they can be and the mystery part was just not too easy to figure out. I look forward to the release of the third book in this series.
I enjoyed this romantic suspense as much as the first in the series. Well-written, surprises in the road to solving the murders, one a cold case and one heartbreakingly current. I loved the choice for the reveal but do not want to spoil a fellow readers enjoyment of this book!
This was a sweet 2nd chance romance wrapped up inside a chilling criminal investigation. With a serial killer on the loose, these two barely found the time to reconnect but they learned enough about each other to know there was more to know.
This is a great thriller, real page turner. The story is intense and moves at a fast pace, great character development also. I never suspected whodunit until the story began to unravel. Great read!
Cops versus high schoolers. A 30 year old murder spree rears its head. Mental illness and privileged teenagers. A hockey team that takes scoring to a new level.
