This debut novel by Christian romance author Dora Hiers was truly enjoyable. Hiers brings realism and depth to her characters in a story that pits widowed Chelsea Hammond and U.S. Marshal Trey Colten against a ruthless mobster. Both Trey and Chelsea must come to grips with burdens from the past and find healing in Christ before they can let themselves fall in love. Plenty of romance, plenty of suspense, plenty to keep me turning pages!

What a wonderful debut from Dora Hiers. She's a gifted author who combines action, romance, and faith into a page-turning mix. I enjoyed this novel very much because it demonstrates the power of love and faith in overcoming pain and circumstance. I can't wait for more from Dora Hiers and highly recommend Journey's End. Enjoy!

Chelsea Hammond had it all, a loving husband, a great home, a fulfilling job. But the day her husband, an undercover police officer, is killed in a shooting, her world is shattered. Unable to face the memories any longer, she leaves her hometown and moves over a hundred miles away to start Journey's End, a home for troubled teens.

When she finds her first client, Jake, hiding in her stable alone and scared, she knows she has to help him. That is, until she finds out his father is the man who killed her husband. But, with her encouragement, he agrees to testify against his father, putting both of them in danger. Imagine her surprise when the Federal marshall, Trey Colton, assigned to protect them is the same man whom she sees at her husband's grave each year on the anniversary of his death. Why does this guy keep popping up in her life? And if this Trey fellow thinks that she's some weeping female, unable to care for herself, he's got another think coming. She can protect herself and Jake. Just wait and watch!

Dora Hiers has a winner here. I was going to leisurely read her book between writing, chores - you know, life. But no! Once I got into it, I had to keep reading. It's a wonderful fast-paced action romance - I know, that sounds like a contradiction, but it really works.

I would say that the romance is Dora's strong suit. She builds it from their immediate distrust little-by-little to genuine affection in believable steps. But it's not all roses for Chelsea and Trey, both of them have trust issues that threaten not only their romance, but their lives.

Which brings me to the next thing: action. Dora knows how to build the action, too. And lots of it. This is not a sleepy bedtime book, unless you want to stay up all night. The action is fast and, at times, furious.

I would recommend Journey's End for reading on the beach, carpool line for the last days of school, and anywhere else you get a chance to get some reading in. It's a winner!

Every year when Chelsea visited her husband’s grave on the anniversary of his death, she sees a man standing in the distance like he was grieving, too. Who was he and how did he know her husband?

Ms. Hiers takes a basic plot and breathes life into it by providing links to the present from the past and throwing in conflict, sexual tension and danger in good quantities. The story is believable, the two main characters are honest and honorable, and a boy’s life is at stake as well as Chelsea’s. The conversations flow well, her characters act like real people do, and the action is intense throughout the entire story.

Chelsea finds a boy in her barn who just happens to be the son of the man who killed her husband. He’s hiding from his father’s men who want to kill him before he can testify at a trial. Then the US Marshals show up. Chelsea’s husband had been a marshal and died because of it. She wants nothing to do with them anymore.

Chelsea is conflicted about wanting to protect the boy and wanting to get rid of the marshals. Trey is assigned to protect her and his partner takes the boy to a safe house. Chelsea and Trey both have issues from the past and don’t want to be involved, but the attraction is certainly there. The banter between two stubborn people who think they know best is entertaining.

This is a Christian themed story and there are Biblical references thrown in at moments of crisis or when the characters are trying to make big decisions. There were situations in this story where I think praying absolutely made sense, and wasn't intrusive.

I enjoyed this read. I just kept turning pages to see what was going to happen next. You’re not sure how things will end up until you get to the end of the story, and that makes it fun to read.

First a warning - Before you decided to snuggle up with this book, make sure you get extremely comfortable and have all the basic needs surrounding you... your favorite blanket, a cup of tea (or coffee) and a nice comfortable chair that you won't mine sitting in for a long time, because once you start reading "Journey's End" you aren't going to want to put it down! This captivating read is not very long and with the nice pace of events, it is guaranteed to keep you turning the pages to see what is going to happen next.

I was surprised to see that this was Mrs. Hiers' debut novel, as it reads like one written by a seasoned author. She has all the elements that makes a great story: main characters with flaws that make them realistic, a tragedy that creates tension, a budding romance that isn't perfect, a lurking danger that keeps the reader interested and on edge - and all unfolding at comfortable pace that keeps one interested enough that there is no "good" place to put the book down!

This is truly one of the best romantic suspense novels I have read in a long time. I enjoyed the subtle inclusion of faith just where it belongs - realistic and far from over the top. Mrs. Hiers has impressed me with this first novel and I'm looking forward to her next books "Journey's Edge" and "Journey's Embrace". If this is any clue what the next two books hold, I know they will be fantastic!

Make sure to put this one on your must read list ASAP!

In conjunction with FIRST WildCard Tour, I received a free copy of this book from the author. I was not required to write a favorable review.

I wish I could figure out how to give a 1/2 star. This novel is close to perfect! Chelsea Hammond is the kind of heroine with whom a reader can relate. Her law-officer husband was murdered now she's finally moving on, founding a camp for troubled teens. Her sadness comes through in some of her actions and many of her thoughts but grief does not rule her life nor bring the book down with depression. Hero Trey Colten is equally well-written - a perfect hero with believable faults and quirks.

At the opening of the story, Chelsea finds Jake hiding in her barn. Jake is the teenage son of the man who murdered Chelsea's husband. Now Jake wants to testify against his father, who also killed Jake's mother. Enter the U.S. Marshals. Trey and his partner must protect Jake and keep Chelsea safe. But Trey has a connection to Chelsea that she isn't aware of. Making matters more complicated, Chelsea and Trey are attracted to each other, reluctantly.

Dora Hiers weaves a fast-paced suspense story together with a romance that grows with each chapter. As Chelsea and Trey spend time together, their affections grow into love. The obstacles to their relationship are believable. Though the reader can foresee some of what will stand in their way, watching them overcome the obstacles is an enjoyable journey.

JOURNEY'S END is exactly the kind of romantic suspense I love to read. I hope to read many more novels by Dora Hiers in the future and I applaud WRP for publishing this debut novel.

Journey's Embrace by Dora Hiers is a sweet romantic suspense. This is a relative new author and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Deputy U.S. Marshal Sage Michaelson is home recuperating from an injury. His best friend Steven said that some strange things had been happening to his sister Delaney. He asked Sage to keep an out on Delaney while he was on his honeymoon. Sage doesn't even leave the wedding reception before Delaney is in trouble. Only problem is that Delaney took care of the situation by herself and then had to patch up Sage. After all, Delaney is a flight medic. Sage realizes that Delaney is no longer the little pest that trailed after him and Steven in the children's home. This Delaney is grown, beautiful and definitely independent. Just what Sage doesn't need. As these two try to hide from their mutual attraction things keep happening. Each time Delaney has to take care of Sage's surgical wound. He keeps breaking it open and it starts bleeding again. How is a guy suppose to take care of the girl if she has to keep putting him back together?

This is a easy read, a little suspense to keep things interesting, humor and how they rely on God and their faith to get through everything. Be prepared to want to finish this in one reading.

I received this book through www.bookclub.org and the author to read, review and leave my honest opinion. I highly recommend this book.

Chelsea Hammond wants a new start. After her husband, Doug, is killed while working as an under cover police officer, Chelsea wants to move on and have nothing to do with cops or anyone in law enforcement. Then Deputy U.S. Marshal, Trey Colten, shows up throwing all of Chelsea's plans out the window.

After her husband's death three year ago, Chelsea moved to the country to build a content life at Journey's End, a ranch she turned into a shelter for troubled teens. Life takes a dangerous turn, however, when Jake Carpocelli lands on her doorstep. The teenage son of a mob boss, Jake wants nothing more than to escape his father. However, since he's a witness in a high profile investigation, Trey is brought in to protect both Jake and Chelsea.

When feelings develop between Trey and Chelsea, she fears loving a man again who takes such dangerous risks for a living. And Trey worries Chelsea will never forgive him when she finds out about his past.

Dora Hiers writes characters I can relate to. Christians who are flawed and not preachy. Her stories are exciting and I find myself staying up late to finish reading - a sure sign of a great book. I look forward to reading all the books in the Journey series.

After the loss of her husband, Chelsea Hammond vows to never again love a lawman. She buries herself in the development of a facility to help troubled teens, only to find herself in danger at the hands of a vindictive outlaw whose son is in her care.

Enter Deputy U.S. Marshal Trey Colten. Another lawman—one Chelsea finds herself irresistibly drawn to…and one with a secret that could very well destroy any possibility of a relationship between them.

Kidnapped by a desperate, cruel criminal, Chelsea's knows Trey is her only hope of survival. Can she trust this man who may have destroyed her world?

An outstanding debut novel. Well-written, and packed with ample emotion, suspense, and entertainment. With Journey's End, this new author has without doubt begun a promising journey of her own. I anticipate the next offering from this talented writer.

Journey's End by Dora Hiers

This is a story that you don't want to miss.
Chelsea has lost her husband and only after several years is she able to begin healing and starting anew.
Journey's End is a place where healing can help the wounded and Chelsea so wants to help when she finds a young man hiding in the barn and then finds out he is son of man that killed her husband- it takes lot of courage and strength to offer her help.
Trey is a marshal who comes to help when he finds out that the killer has escaped from prison and is after the witness, He must protect them both.
Try also needs to forgive himself for the part he had in the death of Chelsea's husband and it wears on his soul as the years pass.

Come and read this adventure that leads to love and faith as the story unfolds.

I used to read (adult) romance novels fairly frequently but have fallen out of the habit. I forgot how comforting it is to know that the last page will bring peace and a happy ending. I picked this one up because the author is local and will be speaking at my library in the fall.

To be fair, books that identify within the genre as Christian fiction are not usually what I pick up. I don't avoid it, either, though. In this case, the Christian elements don't really feel forced, as I sometimes feel they can, and prayer is integrated at very appropriate times. I found the characters to be likeable and believable. I was genuinely interested in what happened and there is a bit of suspense as well, which definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. Overall, I liked it.

Journey's End is a suspenseful tale of romance and law enforcement. Chelsea lost her husband, an undercover police officer, and three years later, his killer's son appears at her shelter for needy teenagers. U.S. Marshal Trey Colten arrives to keep her safe from the kid's father. Their relationship heats up quickly but she wants nothing to do with another man in law enforcement.

Well written and entertaining to the end, with a few twists I didn't expect. Dora Hiers does a nice job with the romance in this story. It's fun, tense, and heats up enough to keep the reader interested but is still suitable for teenagers on up. I highly recommend it!

It was an enjoyable read, but a few things kept me from disappearing completely into the story. The romance seemed rushed and a bit unrealistic and the scene changes were abrupt and one even really confused me. But, even though I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped to, I did find it an enjoyable, mild suspense book that would probably really please romantic suspense fans. :-) It just wasn't for me.

A fantastic read! Chelsea and Trey are well written and their dialogue flows effortlessly. I found myself laughing at their easy banter and flipping the pages during suspenseful moments. The romance and suspense are well balanced and Trey is a great leading man. Faith is an important role in this book and the end is very satisfying. I'll definitely be reading more books by Dora.

Dora Hiers is a new author for me and I'm so glad I found her. This is a story laced with God's grace, new mercies, forgiveness, and new beginnings.

I enjoyed this book for many reasons. The suspense was on point. The characters were well developed. The emotions were real. The plot was believable.

What I loved was how God moved in the lives of Chelsea and Trey. Through the pain of devastating loss there was the whisper of a fresh start, if they could let go of the past, a past they unknowingly shared, and embrace it.

Chelsea's heart was so big when you consider the challenges God allowed her to face and grow from. (Won't mention them as they will give away key elements of the book.) Trey had to learn that he can't, couldn't, control circumstances and to allow God's grace to give him peace with what he could not have foreseen or changed. He also needed to forgive himself in order to move forward.

I give this book 4.5 stars. The writing, the story, the development deserve 5 stars, however there were some mistakes that a person with as much law enforcement experience as Trey had, that should not have been made. In my mind they were rookie mistakes and some were repeated. I also felt Trey's boss made some bad calls and in my mind was not a great boss. That is not against the writer because the portrayal of the boss did reflect real life, sadly. The issue is wrong decisions in his position can cost lives and that bothered me. Other than that this book is great and I highly recommend it! You will enjoy it,

I've already read the second book in this series which is excellent and highly recommended. On to the third book! Ms. Hiers is now on my watch list of authors to read!

When her husband is murdered, Chelsea Hammond doesn’t think she will ever love or trust again. Forget about forgiveness. Determined to take back her life, she turns her broken heart to troubled teens and forgets the idea of happily-ever-after. She doesn’t need anyone. But then she discovers a stowaway in her barn and quickly realizes just how wrong she is. She will definitely need help protecting this teenager. Unfortunately, the only one to help her is the very one she wishes to avoid: Trey Colten.
When Trey walks back into Chelsea’s life, he knows he has a battle on his hands. Chelsea blames him for her broken heart. But that’s okay. It was his fault. Now, he faces another dilemma. How can he get Chelsea to trust him again?
Trey and Chelsea must work together to survive the death threat looming on the horizon. Can they find hope—forgiveness—love amid the heartaches of their past?
Journey’s End (Marshals of Journey Creek) by Dora Hiers is a riveting rollercoaster, and a romantic romp rolled into one. It’s a story of restored hope and happily-ever-after that will thrill romance and suspense fans everywhere.
I give Journey's End (Marshals of Journey Creek) 4.9 stars

I Love Reading Dora’s Stories

As always, I’m thoroughly happy and sad about finishing the latest adventure with the characters in one of Dora Hiers’ books! A Marshal’s Secret didn’t disappoint. I won’t give anything away, but it was fun and frustrating following Avery and Trent through this often suspenseful journey. I loved trying to figure out how Trent (a Deputy U.S. Marshal) was going to protect Avery from the Carpocelli mob boss, while also trying to reveal the truth about how her husband had died. And once she finds out the truth, will she forgive him? What an awesome read! Highly recommend this book!

A Marshal’s Secret

This is another inspirational book by Dora Hiers and a really good start for the series. Avery was a widow who was opening a teenage rescue center. Trent was a U. S. Marshal assigned to watch out for her when the son of the man who killed her husband shows up on her ranch seeking refuge. They develop feelings for each other during the time they were together. What happens when Trent’s secret is revealed? Will he be able to save Avery from the clutches of an evil man?

Marshal's Secret

Avery is widow who is opening a home for wayward teenagers. Before she even opens her doors, a young boy shows up in her barn. He is running away from his father who killed his mother and he witnessed the whole thing. Avery takes him in and calls the police. US marshals show up because the boy is willing to testify against his father who happens to be a major crime boss. Trent is the marshal tasked to keep Avery safe while his partner is assigned to the boy.

This story kept me turning the pages. Good book!

Hard to Put This Book Down!

“A Marshall’s Secret” combines sweet romance, forgiveness, and second chances with spine curling suspense to give the reader a very satisfying read. I loved the characters Avery, Trent and Jake and the drama that involved Jake’s dad and tied Avery, Trent, and Jake together ramped up the “can’t-put-this-book-down” factor exponentially!
