It's not just payback... it's personal.

The scum hiding deep inside the Reach out along galaxy's edge thought they could kill her and not pay the price. For years these hardened killers have run roughshod over the lawless worlds where Republic justice is never as fast as the blaster in your hand and where double-crosses and death are a part of every deal. They thought this time would be no different.

They were wrong.

This time, the Guild sent the legendary bounty hunter Tyrus Rechs.

As the infamous Rechs pursues the men who murdered his colleague, he's hell-bent on justice, heedless of the trail of destruction he leaves across ruined worlds and fantastic gambling meccas alike. Because for Rechs, this isn't just another Guild contract... it's personal.

Happy for hard-core Rechs action

If you've never read a Galaxy's Edge book, don't worry - this could stand alone for the most part (save a few references that GE fans will pick up). Enter Tyrus Rechs, a 'bounty hunter' with a score to settle over a gal he loved who was snuffed by some unsavory characters. Wait, you may say. A bounty hunter (think Boba Fett-type, but hard-core brutal, who never would have let Solo get off being frozen by Vader unless he'd put a slug or two in Han first) is the GOOD GUY?! Woah. Yep, he is. Despite being a one-man wrecking machine who is like the hand of God in how he metes out justice; a slug-throwing, blaster-toting magician of destruction, Rechs vows to take down anyone who had a hand in the death of the woman known as 'Medusa' in certain circles, and he isn't going to let Intergalactic law, crime bosses or a game that pits competitors into a last man standing arena of death get in his way. I am sure I'm not the only Galaxy's Edge reader who was excited to see a Tyrus Rechs spinoff of sorts; a story dedicated to his life outside of the Legion and House of Reason. I love that the book showed his humanity despite his unrelenting determination to see things through, consequences be damned. Is it weird to cheer for a guy most would tag as "bad" or even a murderer? Maybe it would if you couldn't help but relate to what motivates Rechs beyond the actions some might deem immoral or unethical. For sci-fi nerds and even those who enjoy military fiction, this is one of my favorite books in this "world" Anspach and Cole have cooked up as the non-politically correct version of battles in space (and life in an unknown galaxy). If revenge is a dish best served cold, the requiem is ALWAYS best served with red hot lead and high-powered blaster bolts.

I love it. It is almost a 5 star read, I'm just trying to be stingy with those but this one is close. If you like military sci/fi action this is your place.

I read this a while back, and am just now getting around to reviewing it but really....great read. I've been and am planning to get the next. It's just a matter of that old saying, so many books so little time.

If you like action or if you like action science fiction or military science fiction then I can recommend this one. Enloy.

It's been a while since I was this disappointed in a book. This work is completely underwhelming on every level. Plot, characterization, world/setting were all unimaginative, tired, and cliche. Nothing about Requiem for Medusa is memorable or noteworthy.

While I can certainly appreciate a well crafted adventure that isn't too demanding, a cheeseburger of a book (if you can dig it), this is a terrible cheeseburger. If you're looking for some lighthearted action, look elsewhere. I certainly wasn't looking for Dune or anything so heady. But I couldn't find a way into the story. I didn't care at all about the characters or the plot. It felt like I was doing homework.

Very human for military sf

There is a strong human balance here between the bang bang escapism and emotions. Reminds me of The Count of Monte Christo, with a real motivation for this protagonist.
Action scenes are great ,but a bit OTT as our hero massacres military units.
And surely, if you were immortal, your life would be too precious to endanger. Better to hide out, keep your head down, invest your money at interest and end up owning the world.

Great Mil SF

True Galaxy’s Edge style. Tyrus Rex was my favourite character in the early books. Glad to get more of him and hope there is more in the pipeline.

Great!

Tyrus is the epitome of a badass with a heart. Totally cool ending that brought a tear to my eye. A great series!

This book is one I'd been waiting for ever since I read Book two, and first read of Tyrus Rechs, and then read Imperator. It's a little look into his life as a bounty hunter, as he takes on a mission to find out who killed a fellow bounty hunter that he knew very well, and loved. Nick and Jason created a Boba Fett type character that just oozes cool. With his Mark 1 Armour, and his old style bolt thrower, Rechs is an old style bounty hunter who just will not quit until he's dead, and even then he'll be trying to beat Death's skull in with his bare hands.

The requiem for Medusa refers to Medusa, a female bounty hunter who saves Rechs life while on a mission, and the two share an intimacy that is cute to read. Even though she's infected with a deadly nano-virus that is slowly turning her into a cyborg/robot (it's never really clear if it's one or the other), Rechs comes to love her, even though he never tells her.

When she is killed on a mission, betrayed by someone in the Bounty Hunters Guild, Rechs is the one to investigate. He finds her target, but he only knows who originally wanted him dead, so Rechs goes after the people who originally hired Medusa. On an orbital station where absolutely anything goes, he goes after the two Underworld bosses of two different organizations, and ends up in a Battle Royale style game of death. The final shootout between robots, gangsters, bounty hunters, Nether Ops kill teams and Rechs is truely epic in nature.

Oh my... who would have thought a beautiful love story in all that carnage.

I think I'm a little in love with Tyrus Rechs. I can hardly wait to get to know him better. How did he get from General Rex to Tyrus Rechs, how has he lived so long, what did they do to him? I've already downloaded the next book so I have to cut this short.

For a shoot'em up, kill everybody kind of story, this has a romantic sweetness I didn't expect.

And, well, Ray Porter. So there's that.

Requiem for Medusa: Tyrus Rechs: Contracts & Terminations Book 1

What price would you be willing to pay for vengeance? How much of your substance would you be willing to spend, so that the wicked would not escape their due? To see justice done, even though the heavens may fall?

For Tyrus Rechs, that turns out to be just about everything. And in another sense, it turns out to be not much at all. To resolve that enigma, we need to understand the character of Tyrus Rechs. Rechs is fundamentally a very simple man, but to explain why is not so simple.

Let us start by looking at similar characters in fiction. One of the closest examples I can think of is Robert E. Howard’s Solomon Kane:

Solomon Kane is fanatical in personality, unadorned in both speech and deportment, and convinced of the absolute sovereignty of God. His characteristic boast is something I could see Rechs saying:

"It has fallen upon me, now and again in my sojourns through the world, to ease various evil men of their lives."

In another man, we might call this a humblebrag, but for both Kane and Rechs, they are simply being honest. Each of them is an avatar of truth and justice, and are constitutionally incapable of either dishonesty or subtlety.

Just call my Tyrus.

He said it like he was a normal person and not one of the most wanted men in the galaxy. Forget all the rumors, ghost stories, and legends that littered his reputation. He had a warm, almost wry voice that held no pretensions within it. If anything, he seemed casually ordinary and of few words. If you were to have asked her later, after everything had happened, what the truth sounded like if it had a voice, she would’ve told you it sounded like Tyrus Rechs. Like he was some kind of galactic true north that compasses couldn’t stop themselves from finding.

Fundamentally, neither man wants for anything. They have nothing, and want nothing, because they are sufficient unto themselves. Thus, it is easy for them to lay it all out each and every time, without hesitation. Whether as a soldier, or a bounty hunter, Tyrus is willing to lay down his life for others.

But this time, something is different. That something is a woman.

Rechs felt nothing.

Which was, as he well knew, when he was at his most dangerous. He rarely felt anything at all before he killed people. Or during it. Or after. Maybe because he’d done it so long. Because it was one of the only things he knew how to do well.

And to him, that was the way it needed to be when you killed someone. Emotionless. Otherwise…mistakes were made.

Impersonal personification of justice he may be, but Tyrus Rechs is also a man, and a soldier; stone cold killer he may be, he is is also capable of love. Not just the fraternal love which motivates men to run towards danger instead of away from it, but also the wild abandon of erotic love. Which explains one of the biggest questions I had in the Galaxy’s Edge series: what happened to Tyrus Rechs? Now it all makes sense.

As for the book itself, this volume struck me as the most cinematic of all of Anspach and Cole’s work so far. The climactic set-piece battle on a ruined world between Rechs and the man who betrayed his woman, I could see it. This would make a hell of a movie. Or a mini-series, as some devoted fans remind me frequently.

Cassio Royale itself, the doomed pleasure palace, gambling station, and wretched hive of scum and villainy, would also be spectacular. Perhaps we shall see it someday.

This book is a hell of a ride, and a fascinating bit of backstory behind one of the series biggest and baddest. Highly recommended.

A softer side to Tyrus Rechs, general, legionnaire and bounty-hunter comes to the fore.
But then he tenses up and blasts a hole in your helmet, right through the kindle.
This ancient star-fighter, becomes a more rounded character and really grows on you.

If you love sci-fi and the idea of the lone ex-soldier, hunting bad-guys, read it.
The writer really makes it feel authentic, like it's a real outcast's tale.

It's about blaster shootouts and has that star-warsy feel down pat.
It really gut-punches you at times and does not let up until the last blasting page. I enjoyed it so much, and I don't really know why.

I love Nick Cole's writing and I hope to read a lot more.

So, Tyrus Rechs is gunning for you?

I take it you've put your affairs in order? Made out your last will and testament? It'd be a waste of time trying to get some insurance, they'd never accept you.

Oh, it's personal? You pissed him off and killed someone he cared about? You'd better just point your gun to your temple and save yourself a lot of trouble and pain. I'll just get as far away from you as possible now.

A bounty hunter's tale of revenge: Another excellent addition to the series, but works as a stand-alone or entry-point into the GE universe.

Oh wow what to say?

This is far before the current kill team we are used to. Far before wraith. And just like when we learned about Casper we get some amazing adventures with Tyrus. The book is awesome. Battles fighting. Strategies. Learning more about Tyrus. Some crazy plot twists And dear lord the ending is heart breaking and glorious.

Please authors we need more stories with Tyrus Rechs!!

Supposedly the next main timeline book is going to be the last for that story. Just write more Rechs books and don’t let it end ever!!!

Well that was unexpected

Awesome. I love this series even more specifically because of Tyrus Rechs. Also really enjoyed the emotion....even though it was typical “I’m a manly man so I can’t show emotion much” stuff it was really well done. Not sure how much I liked the Battle Royale idea because it’s getting a bit old but it’s like 2% of the book so I can’t complain too much. Can’t wait for the next book!

More!!!!!!!!

Was a bit dubious at first, love the galaxy edge series and was worried this was just a stop gap. No worries on that score, this was a brilliant read, we have already had GE does Blackhawk Down, now GE does The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. This is excellent, do we want more Rechs? He'll yea

Reichs loved her in his own way.

They met when a bounty went the wrong way. She healed him, brought him a life he had never had. Now someone had killed her just to get at him. Revenge was his!!

Read and enjoy.

Another great space opera

Ah. Never enough stories of Rechs. Every legend is a tragedy. As usual in this series, the story is action packed from start to finish. This is better than star wars, more action and grit. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Great read. Well written, flowing storyline

Enjoyed the story. The action was non-stop and the characters were engaging. The main character is the antihero that is inherent is such stories but one the reader can easily relate to. A good way to pass the time. Well worth it.

Such an enjoyable read.

Great and easy read. As the the "galaxy's edge" universe continues to grow and evolve. It's nice to get some back story on the growing cast of characters. The ultimate Badass and his back stories is an awesome way to do that.

Great galaxy spanning series

This is one of best space opera series out there now. Galaxy’s edge has it all, think of it as Star Wars with guardians of the galaxy and starship troopers without the bugs.

Speechless.

If you don't know who Tyrus Rechs is you are missing out on an amazing character, soldier, legionnaire.
This story is violent, graphic, but also highly emotional.
I could not fault this book and am eager for more of his history.
