She's too much risk to be alive, but too precious to be killed.
The assignment is easy: kill the witness.
Until I walk in on the target yanking his female mate across the floor by her hair, her legs bloodied and her face bruised. One shot disables his brain functions, leaving me with as many witnesses as I started out with. When the Earth woman stares at me, my finger stiffens on the trigger. I should kill her but I just... can't.
Now she demands I leave her husband's body behind, and I am wondering if should take hers instead.
Taken is a quick, steamy read, introducing readers to the Alien Invasion Romance series Garrison Earth.
Author Note: The entire Garrison Earth series touches on subjects such as captivity, drug abuse, forced prostitution, loss of loved ones, human trafficking, rough handling, and violence. Any reader uncomfortable with the harsh realities of an alien invasion should please consider before purchase.
This is just meh. It’s a novelette and there’s no time to develop much of a story, and I wasn’t convinced I needed to read more tbh. I may check out another book in this series. Or not. 🤷🏻♀️
Think I've come to realize that dub-con and breeding don't usually work for me and this series just really hit it home. The writing? Really good though which is why I keep reading even if I'm not totally into it.
I've found a new-to-me erotic alien romance series that I can binge on. Excellent. This novella was well written and hotter than a cup of McDonald's coffee.
3.75 stars. This is a really short novella that is meant to introduce us to the Garrison Earth series, so it feels quite incomplete… but I guess it made me interested in the next book so it’s done its job?
This was a fun, quick read that explains some basics about the Garrison Earth universe. I absolutely loved the meta element of this and Vanessa’s intro before the book starts. So great! Also I am pretty sure that Lizzy is mentioned in the other books of the same universe. Platon was super sexy and so swoon worthy! It was surreal considering the situation of how they got together and almost gave me Natural Born Killers vibes or something along those lines, which just added to the appeal for me. Do pay attention to trigger warnings as it will definitely trigger some readers.
Such a funny and entertaining short-introduction to the Vetusian Males and an intriguing outlook to the mission Garrison Earth. I am on board to experience this as live a possible.
The P.S. under the introduction by V.K. Ludwig: “This is a work of fiction. Yes, my husband is still alive.” gave me my first smile, a hint of wonderful humour running through the statement. At the end of the second chapter, the smile turned into a LOL 😂 and stays. I knew that this style of humour was exactly mine and the right one. Have fun, heed the warnings in the blurb and be entertained. Aliens are on their way to us 👽 and they're well built ...
Must go away to read book 1 CAPTURED, it calls for me ...
I totally read this book in the wrong order but I just finished this quick novella and loved it! An abusive husband gets his karma and his wife finds herself an alien admirer.
A quick, cute, read that introduces you to this book series that is quickly becoming one of my favorite alien series ever!
I liked their connection the short lived one there was. He was kind yet curious, helpful and honest mostly. It was definitely intriguing. I'm bummed that's all there was.
A new species meets Earthers. Or in this case an older species sends one male to Earth to erase a human who is a danger to their plans. Easy in, easy out. That was the plan. Too bad things rarely go according to plan. I found it fast paced and interesting.
An intriguing short story with humor that has introduced me to a new author - one I will definitely be on the lookout for more of. I loved the humor - as a reader we were warned about triggers but these didn't bother me at all. I'm interested in the dynamics of different relationships and this story definitely gave me insight into how diverse some people can be and what they will put their "loved" ones through. I really hope anyone who has triggers doesn't get this book then bag the author, because V. Ludwig deserves to be praised for being brave enough to tackle these issues in her books. I've experienced some of what our heroine did and I know there are going to be readers out there who will criticize the author for what she has written, but I hope they don't. I hope they take on board the trigger warnings and stay away if they can't handle it. This author has guts and I congratulate her for it.
So here is another sci-fi romance. It is short and to the point. So we have Lizzy who is in a horrible marriage. I mean I can't believe she put up with the things she did. So if you have triggers of abuse you may want to skip a few paragraphs. Then we have her husband who people thinks is crazy. But is he? Well we find out real quick. Then Platon shows up to handle business but did not account for Lizzy being there. Now she some hows intrigues him and now he has to decide what he is going to do with her. He seems to be enamored with her and tells her what he is doing there. Now Lizzy seems to be finding a back bone and determined to move on with her life. She is an author and writes romance books. Well it seems that Lizzy may seem to be intrigued by Platon. Thing is, he is not from Earth. So what happens. It seems that this is just a taste of what is to come. So I guess we will need to read the series to see what happens.
I received a free copy of this book and loved the plot. A scientist has discovered evidence of life beyond earth. But his discoveries were not suppose to happen, because aliens are planning an invasion. The male hero is an assassin, sent to neutralize the scientist. When he arrives, ready to complete his assignment, he finds his mark in the middle of a domestic abuse situation. After eliminating one threat, he now has a new, terrified threat in the form of the scientist wife. What to do with her? This book, 0, sets up the stories in the series, Garrison Earth, beautifully. I have now read the first book in series, Captured: Garrison Earth, and I am addicted! This is by far, one of the most interesting Syfy Romance series that I have read! Definitely try this book!
Strange that my first impression of this book, sci fi or not ,is that its down to earth. Everything is known . No exotic landscape or bizarre creatures. And the only thing that's alien about the Aliens is that they are tall and have I iridescent eyes. And of course they are invading us. And the reason they are invading is an old chestnut too - They need females. The familiarity doesn't mean boring. The characters are interesting.the p!ot makes sense and the writing is competent.Something I see less and less of these days. And I really liked the strong, resourceful women and their reaction to the invaders. I think I was just expecting Scifi and what I got was Romance.
Initial intro to the series, this is more of a teaser. It's good but short. Once I got into the Garrison Earth Series, the longer ones are really well written.
I am binging the series (Garrison Earth, and Vandalar Concubines). LOVE the series. ---Garrison Earth series has great complicated characters, they are NOT simplistic cartoons, there's complex plots, and great world building. I could see this made into a sci-fi series like Battle Star Galactica. I'm worrying what I'll replace this with when I finish the series, and am desperately waiting for MORE!! --Vandalar Concubines, I'm really looking forward to. It's more humorous & lighter than Garrison Earth. Desperately waiting for MORE!!
My favorite part of this was when the author put in the author's note: "Don't worry, I'm fine and my husband is alive."
An intro to the series- Lizzy, an author, is married to a shitty, abusive man who also happens to be a scientist that is trying to prove the existence of aliens. They are fighting, it gets physical. Enter: big alien man who *pew pews* her husband for digging too deep. Lizzy is not sad about it.
Alien is hot. Lizzie finds out a little bit about the invasion plan that his species is about to initiate. They play house for a night. He takes her with him.
30 pages, nothing spectacular. But it was a good little intro for what's about to go down in the series. Reading the first book now and it already has a way more developed plot.
Got it free on amazon. It's a short read. It's not amazing but it's got a nice start. It's made me curious to read more, while it's not exactly hard to guess what things in this book elude to since it's pretty basic alien romance stuff. It's a nice read anyway. I wouldn't recommend reading the book even if it's free if you're not going to read more. It doesn't really delve into the alien species were introduced to which I suppose is a good marketing strategy if you want people to read more. I would have liked to see some more unique characters as they felt a little basic. Obviously I'm aware that such a short read it's hard to delve deep into characteristics, it was still pretty bland.
I gave this book a 3 cups of hot java to start as this is a short read, ☕☕☕. This was well written but pretty fast paced into the sexual scene. Platon's order of elimination of one earth male scientist to prevent discovery of an alien race. He falls fast and hard for the earth male's wife, debating on eliminating her or mating her. As he leaves, he realizes he cannot leave her behind so he takes her... This will continue in next book "Taken".
Overall: 1⭐️ Introduction to a new (to me) series. However after reading this and the blurbs and reviews of the books in the series I’ve recognised that this is not for me. I am not a fan of dub con and it seems to be a recurring theme. I have enjoyed a different series by same other (Alphas of Nasila) but this one is just not for me.
This novella was very short (don't be fooled by the page count on Goodreads; it's definitely not over 300 pages long. It's probably more like 50-60 pages total.), which doesn't allow for much character development. I want to say that the MMC appears in the third book in the series, but I may be wrong about that.
This is kind of billed as an entry into the series, but I wouldn't call it that. Start with the first book and pick this one up later (maybe between books 2 and 3, because, like I said, I'm pretty sure the MMC shows up in the third book).
The characters are believable & easy to identify with. The story line made me want to know what was going to happen next. Then, when I ran out of story, had this been a paperback I would have been flipping the back cover over & back looking for more saying, "Noooo! it can't end yet!"!! And then to add a teaser with the beginnings of Book 1? I'm going shopping! Bye!
This is an exciting start to a new series! The first scene will take you to a dark place. it reads fast but has a lot going for it. Lilly is abused by her husband Will and it's ugly but well written with just the right touch of ohmygodzilla no he didn't kind of vibe. Platon is adorable and the chemistry between Lilly and him is off the charts ... Well, once Lilly comes around! I'm looking forward to binge reading this series next!
If you’re at the dentist’s, looking for a fun way to kill some time, sure, go ahead and read it. It’s funny (I’m all it’s forced alien language and all) and straight into action, if you can stomach through the first couple pages that is (trigger warning for domestic abuse). Other than that I’d say not to bother: it’s short, with zero subtlety and some very non consensual-things-happening-but-that’s-ok-cause-he’s-hot-and-they’re-meant-to-be bullshit.
This prequel is a little insta-love, but it’s a short story so the author didn’t have a lot of room to maneuver. The others in the series are more fully developed, and I like the ‘garrison’ vs ‘invasion’ double-talk. Not sure why, but it amuses me that the aliens think they can manipulate language the same way the guy who renamed ‘War Dept’ to ‘Dept of Defense’ did.
I read ALOT of Kindle Unlimited books. This is o e of the few that had me wanting to jump into the next book of the series! I was intrigued. I laughed. I wanted to fight her "husband", and wanted her to get the be!l out of dodge ROFL!!! If you want something quick and to get yourself primed for new alien invasion romance, this is the series for you. Happy reading!
Brilliant book which I absolutely loved and would thoroughly recommend it hoping that others enjoy it as much as I did. The main characters Lizzie and Platon meet when he arrives to kill her husband to keep secret the fact that Aliens are about to invade. Considering her husband had just finished hitting her she's not that upset. Following these two was great reading and of course an introduction to a new series.
• Alien / Human • V!rg!n MMC • He unal!ves her husband...in front of her! • He falls first • He claims her as his, but she doesn't want a mate! • Alien invasion prequel
Wow!!!! This novelette is an introduction to the Garrison Earth series and contains the first 3 chapters of book 1. However, the prequel alone was enough to tell me that I NEED to read book 1 ASAP! It was intense from the start, had me glued to the pages, and left me wanting more! I loved it!
Interesting headline, huh? Read the story to find out more about that!
Platon the dominant alien virgin and L-Lizzy the aspiring author create sparks like you wouldn’t believe and set the stage nicely for the next books in the series.
And so begins a most intriguing start to the Garrison Earth series.
To be honest I like it. It's steamy, hero is blunt so it kind of adds to the spice. Plot idea was great. It's really short and it leaded it in being fast paced. However I don't mind in it being that way because it just introduce you to the beginning, gives you view of what will happen in future. All in all it's great start of series.👍
