Rate this book
Scarlett Lattimore arrives at Lilith House, an abandoned mansion built in 1876, that later housed a reform school for troubled girls, to start a new life with her seven-year-old daughter.

But between the nearby town with the strange, disconcerting feel, the deputy sheriff who is equal parts intriguing and suspicious, and the discovery that their new home holds a dark and violent past, Scarlett soon begins to question her rash decision.

She is shaken and afraid by the screams that echo in the walls and the drumbeat that arises from the surrounding woods where the ghost of an indigenous man is said to roam, seeking vengeance. Her fear is also personal, because Scarlett knew one of the girls who attended the school, a friend who escaped into those woods and was never seen again. They all thought she was a rebellious runaway who later encountered foul play, but perhaps the truth is far more sinister.

As Scarlett’s extraordinary daughter Haddie becomes consumed by the eerie figure who weaves and beckons through the forest fog, and a legacy of secrets reveal themselves, it becomes clear both Scarlett and Haddie are in grave danger. When the past intersects with the present, they will come face to face with the true evil of Lilith House. An evil that has lasted for more than a century.

nevermind that this cover looks like it was done by some kid messing around in photoshop, because this story is so much more detailed than that.

there is so much going on. its ‘the only good indians’ meets ‘home before dark,’ with a little hint of ‘riverdale’ thrown in there. plus MSs classic romance for good measure. some readers may find it to be a bit too much, but the story kept me on my toes nonstop. its a real page turner.

its the perfect balance of dark and spooky for your october mixed with hopeful love for your holiday season.

fallen

'FALLEN' Is a suspenseful dark romance novel by Mia Sheridan. Third person 'POV.' Goes from 'Past to Present time.'

I have no idea what I've just read!! Most of it I thought I was in the paranormal genre, which is one I do not read. This was so cleverly executed, twists and turns that left me gasping in their wake. One story which branched off into other mysteries had me questioning everything. To say I was beyond hooked was an understatement. I loved this. Inhaled, devoured in such record speed, I couldn't put it down, I had to know what evil resided within that township. I have no idea how this author came up with this storyline but wow!! It's scary, creepy, dark, gritty, sad, the perfect read for Halloween.

Single mother Scarlett and her seven year old daughter Haddie with an old soul arrive at their newly acquired mansion in the middle of nowhere named 'Lilith house' which had been left abandoned for the past thirteen years, Scarlett wants to bring it back to its former glory, she has a business idea of making it into the perfect event venue for wedding and parties.

Lilith House holds some sentiment to Scarlett as many years ago her childhood friend Kandace had been sent here when she was seventeen, in the past when it was a school for girls who had gone off the rails and Lilith House was the end of the road for them.

I'm Kandace Thompson, seventeen, from Los Angeles. I'm here because, according to my mother, and several judges, I'm a substance abuser and a thief. Lilith House is my last chance to straighten up, or I receive jail time for my most recent crime of stealing my latest stepfather's Lamborghini

When we're introduced to Deputy Camden West, I didn't know what to make of him, he intrigued me, a man of hidden secrets, slowly his story unravels and its one which I wasn't expecting.

Before the doors closed to Lilith house forever Kandace a week beforehand had disappeared without a trace, no one knows what happened to her.

Fallen takes us back to Kandace's time spent at this school for wayward girls. Her story is heartbreaking, raw, emotional, dark.

MS always delivers! 😭🖤

I haven’t read a mystery/thriller book in the last two months, and this was the perfect book to get me back in the game.

✓ An old haunted mansion filled with dark and twisted memories;
✓ A single mother looking to start a new business;
✓ One unusual seven year old child who could have been psychic or just insanely intuitive;
✓ A deputy sheriff with equal parts intriguing and suspicious;
✓ A small town on a league of its own when it comes to religious cults;
✓ One unresolved disappearance of an eighteen year old runaway;
✓ Myths on tragic love, vengeance, and horned beasts in the woods;

Some twists and turns later . . . and you get yourself this unputdownable book with (unfortunately) that godawful cover. TW for .

Holy hell, what a ride! I have to admit, with the story being told in dual timelines, I found myself enjoying the present chapters more. Not to say that the past ones were boring because, good God, the things Kandace—no matter that she was a “wild child” with attitude problems—went through . . . heartbreaking, raw, emotional.

I guess you could say Kandance’s part of the story was bleak and sad. Meanwhile, Scarlett’s was more heart racing and stimulating. It gets your mind ticking. Especially during the last 20%. Whoosh, the adrenaline. 💦

“Lilith House never slept, Lilith House had stories to tell, especially in the dark.”

I absolutely adored the -ˋˏ brilliance ˎˊ- with which MS crafted the mystery—crazy, jaw dropping plot twists and all. On another note, I didn’t really feel the thriller aspect of this book. I mean, it had some seriously effed up going ons and even horror elements. However, I was neither unsettled nor scared out of my mind.

With this book being engaging and plot driven, I think the characters and romance acted as more of a substantial part of it instead of the main body. If you know what I mean? Not a complaint seeing as I liked both parts immensely.

“You learned how noble you were in a place like Lilith House. You learned how much of yourself you were willing to sacrifice for others. And how cheap your price could be.”

Overall, Fallen had MS written all over it, which I loved. I think the Where duet is still her best work, but with every new book that she puts out, I revere her more and more. Don’t sleep on her and this book if you’re a fan of romantic suspense.

PS. Massive thanks to Jessica for bringing the book to my radar. Wouldn’t have known about the surprise release otherwise. Don’t you just love it when a friend notices your interests and keep you in the loop? #Grateful 🥰

5+++++ All the Stars ⭐️!!
I love this author and her ability to spin a great tale. So talented.

”You’re stronger than you think.”

Hands down, the BEST BOOK I’ve read in 2020. Completely unputdownable!! The whole story was perfection, but the ending was an unstoppable whirlwind of activity. This was me the last 20% ......
- WHAT?? OMG! WTH! WTF!!! Holy Shit!! Say what?? I never saw that coming, WOW. Boom...drop the mic ⬇️🎤

My Thoughts: The following are my thoughts about this book:
General:
- Trigger warning-around 7% there is animal cruelty. You can skip this (about 7%-9%) and not miss anything in the story (the cruelty is used as a tactic to scare the student into submission). There is also rape in this book (non violent as the person is drugged).
- Setting: Farrow, California (a couple hours outside LA)

The Story:
This story is a bit dark and has a “what the f*ck is going on” vibe. I did this as a buddy read and all of us were blown away and loved the way the author told this story. Here are some of my thoughts:
- Flipping back-and-forth between the present and the past usually makes a story feel choppy. However in this case I was fully engaged in the present and the characters represented there and fully engaged in the past and the characters represented there. I knew they would come together somehow and both the past and the present were riveting
- This isn’t “gory” dark, but it’s “people are f’d up in the head” dark (which is scarier to me 😬)
- Heavy religious tone (it’s not Christian or preachy. Just the opposite. Some people do bad things in the name of “religion” )
- All the characters, but especially Kandace, had some incredible strength.
- Kandace’s journey was heartbreaking 💔 and overall, many of the characters had unbelievable journeys. I found myself rooting for so many who were wronged.
- I would not classify this as a romance. There is some romance (first kiss around 49% and the bedroom scene around 70%) but it is not the focal point of the story. However, for those of you that need a little romance with your suspense, I think this would fit the bill.
- Haddie.....oh my gosh, the most adorable 7 year old. I loved her and she grabbed my heart and never let go. ❤️
- the outcome for the bad guys....some of the ways they get justice are truly satisfying (some of them physically suffered a little tiny bit 👏👏👍). Thank you Ms. Sheridan for that!! 🙂
- I didn't think this was a paranormal book, but I wondered how the author would explain the horned thing in the woods. Perfect explanation when everything was revealed.
- There was a lot going on but I loved how everything was explainable. Just when a twist was revealed and you’re thinking....how was that possible, Sheridan throws in a turn that makes you drop your jaw and say ...."oh, wow. I didn’t think of that.”. The twists and turns were truly masterful. She thought of everything!!
- This author really thought outside the box. There were no cliché plot devices and everything seemed to be a surprise with how it unfolded. I had so many guesses along the way. Some were way off base and the guesses I thought were probably impossible had a nugget of truth. Truly mesmerizing story telling.
- The ending is everything you think you want and so much more. ❤️

Some people have been a little freaked out by the page count. Don’t let that scare you. I was stunned when I saw how many pages because I read this in just a few short days (in between work). It grabbed my attention from the first paragraph and didn’t let go until the last word of the book. I never felt like I was slogging through unnecessary dialogue or filler. This story was clever, unique, heart tugging, tragic, hopeful, brave and utterly amazing! Don’t let it pass you by. Highly recommend.

Quotes
“Don’t give up on yourself. I haven’t.”

“What are you? Why can’t I feel you?”

“Nature doesn’t tolerate imperfection. It’s a weakness. And in nature, weakness equals death.”

“Is anything forever?”

“A friend—just one true one—could save your soul. And the gift of friendship lasted forever, its lingering grace there to draw strength from even when you were alone.”

“Promise me you won’t stop being brave. No matter what, promise me you won’t hide your heart, even if that seems like the easier thing to do.”

Genre: Romantic Suspense
Type: Standalone
POV: Third Person
Rating:

When Scarlett Lattimore stumbled upon the sale of the dilapidated Lilith House mansion, she envisioned the grandeur of the new venture. Desperately needed a new start with her daughter Haddie, she took the opportunity and slowly turning her fantasy into reality. But the new town and its people were not as charming as she initially thought and her new property seemed to be the source of a dark past she could never imagine.

I was intrigued when the author revealed she wrote something darker, creepier, and just in time for Halloween. Personally, I didn’t find it that creepy and some parts were quite far-fetched but I enjoyed the story overall.

Still . . . he’d so seldom in his life been recognized for any accomplishment, he’d so seldom felt seen by anyone, and he couldn’t deny the pleasure that swam inside him at the knowledge that he’d made her happy.

There were a lot of characters but each had a purpose in the story. I loved how the characters were connected from the past to the present. My favorite was Haddie and her Haddie-ism. The story was engrossing and some parts made me very angry and sad. The romance was not the main element in the story but it will still appease true Romance readers.

Fallen is a tale of risks, rewards, and new beginnings. It would appeal to readers who enjoy a Romantic Suspense with a hint of horror.

5 "You are stronger than you think." Stars!

I really don't even know where to start with this review. This book was sooo gooood! It really had me from the very beginning. I didn't know what I was reading. A paranormal story, a psycho story, a mystery/thriller, or what? All I knew was that I wouldn't want to live in that house or that town! Nope. Not me.

This book was creepy and hopeful all at the same time. I absolutely loved Scarlett, Kandace, and Haddie. I loved how the story was really driven by the female characters. Even the evil ones. Mia Sheridan does a fantastic job of leaving breadcrumbs for you to follow, but NOTHING was obvious or easily predictable. There was some romance, but it takes a big back seat to the plot. And even the romance was a bit of a mystery. I loved how MS brought this whole story together. She just proved to me once again why she will always be an auto 1-click for me.

This was a perfect October read. Happy reading!

Another great read from Mia Sheridan, this one was atmospheric and captivating! It has all the fall vibes, and I liked how it goes with the past and now.

First we have thirteen years ago with Kandace who was a troubled girl and goes to the Lilith House Reform School for her behavior. On the other hand we have Scarlett and her daughter in the present
who is moving to this building as their new home.

Strange things happening and in some parts it was creepy, but not too scary! I was intrigued to learn more!

Overall, it was a great fall read!

5 stars for Fallen!

Once again Mia proves just how versatile of a writer she is! The last few releases have had me seriously side eyeing her in a good way. I love the dark twisty parts of Mia’s brain *insert evil laugh*.

Get ready to dive deep into the bad, ugly and treacherous world of religious cults. This book had my head spinning, especially because I’ve seen a smidgen of this from my past years at a church I once attended. Nothing this extreme, but it wouldn’t shock me if these type things were going on and I just didn’t know about it.

This book blew my mind..better yet it blew the walls and the roof off of my brain. I went in blind and I think everyone should. It touches on supernatural a bit as well, but this is definitely a suspense/thriller type genre. It’s definitely a romance, but oh so different than any romance I’ve ever read!

This book is dark, twisty and just what you need to read this spooky season..sleep with one eye open when you finish. That’s all I will say.

"some stories steal your time, some steal your comfort, and some steal your heart."
Fallen by Mia does all three and then some. My pulse is still pounding like a creature's footfalls in impenetrable jungle, my heartbeat is still thumping like a wardrum of the ancient forgotten tribes, it all culminates on the edge of a canyon drop (NO, it's NOT a cliffhanger)
A rivetingly mysterious tale of A House that harbors eerie secrets and scares it's inhabitants for more than a century. Satans with God-complexes, rebellious girls who've lost their way and a town full of poisonous people.

description

"Lilith House never slept. Lilith House had stories to tell, especially in the dark."
If cloak and dagger had a name it'd be Lilith House, a reform school for wayward girls. There're many characters in the story but this house in the center of it all. It's the Hero, the villain, the protagonist. A silent spectator to heinous, gruesome crimes. A cavern of secrets whose walls whisper and hallways scream. The drumbeat of horned monster passes like the billowing fog in the forests beyond the manor and shifting echoes of predator A war mongering demon hungry for human flesh keeps the Farrow Town terrorized.

description

Who in their right mind would buy and move in this hauted, screaming house?
Scarlett Lattimore, tugging her 7 year of daughter- Haddie. Once they creak open the stiff doors, and dust off the cobwebs and dust, Lilith House starts to stir and wake up
From Day 1 Haddie listens and feels the past history of the house. Scarlett dreams about the business future plans and the Farrow Guild is trying to maintain their "No New Visitors" policy in the present.
The plot is like a precarious apple cart, balanced on a secret tie that Scarlett has with the house
"everyone who’s here is here to serve a purpose." >

description

Sounds ominous and predestined by the hands of Fate dressed as Karma.
The book was bewitching and spellbinding to say the least. I kept unravelling the knots of the plot till the very end. It was like deciphering a complex code that led to other codes and the more I delved deeper, the more intrigued I was. Mia has managed to keep me on my toes throughout, never letting my attention waiver, even for a minute.
Fantastic build up that leads to jaw dropping climax. I was flabbergasted at times, disgusted at many and astonished how this could have a been a real possibility in modern times. Seems like Ms Sheridan's overactive imagination and brilliant story weaving skills deserve a standing ovation!!

Mia Sheridan is such a phenomenal author. For her last couple of releases she has gone a more suspenseful route. Which she hit each release out of the park in my opinion. I admire authors for trying something new. I love it when they can continue to surprise me with their intricate storytelling. Being able to relate or connect to characters in a book is very important, and I was 100% invested in the life of Scarlett and her daughter Haddie. I will be very vague in this review because I think you should go into this story blind. The atmosphere in this book is creepy, dark, and suspenseful. Things aren't as what they seem, and I loved not being able to predict what would happen next.

Fallen was in my opinion magical in some aspects, and I especially loved Haddie's POV. She is such a sweet and special young girl, and she definitely elevated the story in my opinion. There are different POVs, which didn't bother me at all. We go back and forth into present and past time but it was done really well. I was intrigued and invested in seeing what would happen in both time periods. Everything is connected and came together perfectly at the end. This book had me smiling and crying. I was on the edge of my seat a couple of times, and I just couldn't put the book down. I needed to know what would happen next. This book was amazing and beautiful. Mia's writing is just one of the best, and she continues to exceed the expectations I have for her books. I really hope she will continue to write more books in the same setting/atmosphere as this book, because I want more! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that a grown-up Haddie wil get her own book.

Oh. My. Wow.

Drop everything, and pick up this book!

When I stuck my greedy little grabby hand out for an early copy, I didn't even know if it was romance. I only knew that it would be different, and that Mia Sheridan wrote it and so there was very little chance that I wasn't going to like it.

It turns out that it is a romance. And it is also different. But mostly? It was perfect.

I freaking loved this story so much!

It's a little bit creepy - which makes it absolutely perfect for this time of year It's a little dark, a little heavy and raw and brutal. It's filled with twists and turns and unexpected horrors. But it's also beautiful in its own right. It's a classic good vs. evil story, and the goodness shines so bright. The way Mia Sheridan has written these characters - it was so impossible not to love them. Not to cheer for them. Not to wrap my heart around them as it ached, and shuddered, and overflowed with emotion for them.

Just. WOW.

I loved every twisty moment. I loved every bruise it left upon my heart. I loved every beautiful soul I encountered in this book, brought to life by Mia Sheridan's smart, thoughtful, powerful writing. I loved how their light shined so brightly even as their lives were shrouded in darkness. I loved the sense of euphoria I experienced as the plot unfolded and good triumphed over evil in the end. I loved every single thing.

Simply put: Fallen was absolutely phenomenal. A shout from the rooftops kind of book! Read it! Read it now! ~ Shelly, 5 Stars

Dark and suspenseful Mia Sheridan pulls you in from page one and doesn't let you take a breath until the very end!!

You won't be prepared for this book; you can't be because this story is one of those that will pull at your heart and leave you speechless from the start. Fallen was one of those stories that will stay with me that I will have to revisit in the future because I know it will be better the second time around when I am not reading in a frenzy just to get to the end.

I've read a few Mia Sheridan novels before and they were all incredible but this one is on a whole new level. When you go into this story don't look too deep just dive head first, you will thank me later. The story, the characters, the angst, the drama and the sheer amount of plot twists in the story will leave you guessing until the last page.

Well, then, i loved the "Where" bilogy by the author.

I was excited to read this, it's the newest thing from Mia, apart it´s mystery/suspense, but unfortunately this was disappointing.

I wanted to DNF this book a couple of times. The beginning was good was intriguing but...I just know that a lot of the story didn't convince me, the romance didn't appeal to me and was boring.

Wow! This book was creepy, chilling and not what I was expecting at all. I loved it!

Mia Sheridan is one of my favorite authors. So I was beyond excited to get to read her newest book.

I honestly had no idea what to expect from Fallen. But it was really great!

The book has a past/present storyline, which I don't normally love. But in this case it worked perfectly as both time periods were interesting and vital to the story.

The cover is of a place called Lilith House. And we get to see Lilith House in both time periods.

In the past we meet Kandace a 17 year old student (3rd person POV). This part of the story takes place 13 years ago.

In the present day we have Scarlett (28 years old) and her daughter Haddie (7 years old). We get both of their 3rd person POVs.

The book begins with a really scary prologue. It set up the book perfectly and made me super curious about the rest of the story.

This is a great book for October as there is a lot of creepiness and a lot of suspense. I had not read the book blurb before starting this book. So I did not know if it was a romance, a thriller or what genre I would be reading.

Years ago Lilith House was a reform school. And I was really fascinated by the teachers and students. In the present Scarlett is thinking of turning it into a business. I really enjoyed the contrast.

Something tragic happened at Lilith House in the past. And I was also mesmerized by this part of the story. And I really wanted to find out exactly what had happened.

There is some romance in this story. And after reflecting on the book I think that I would call it a romantic suspense.

My favorite character was definitely little Haddie. She was such a perceptive girl. And I absolutely loved everything about her.

The main male character is Deputy Camden West. I was very intrigued with him. And definitely wanted to know more right from the start.

This book was very suspenseful and there were some interesting reveals that I was not expecting. And the last part of the book was so riveting. I could not put the book down. Overall, this was another amazing book by one of my favorite authors!

I am so nervous ... not Mia's usual romance ... sounds eerie and creepy :0 I'm going in - pray for me :)

HOLY sh*t ball! This book was mysterious, chilling, twisted but if you are familiar with Mia’s writing you know there is no stopping once you started. Mia’s talent has no bound regardless of genre. With an unbelievably intriguing plot and brilliant writing skill I was captivated the whole time. You really have to go into this book blind and enjoy the journey albeit dark and creepy as hell. I really enjoyed this! This was an unexpectedly good read. I didn’t think the story would get as dark as it did, but it was also a tale of friendship, love, hope and overcoming hardship. I’ve never read any of this author’s work before and I’m not overly keen on romances, but here it was balanced by the dark context of the story.

This book is amazing.

I started reading it with trepidation, because Lilith House is spooky. It’s like a living, breathing thing. I think the last scary book I read was The Amityville Horror when I was 12. It scared me so much I had to sleep with the light on for months and I wouldn’t go in the cellar. I still think I see red eyes shining in the dark.

Little blonde girl in a frilly dress goes skipping into the woods and a masked demon stalks her, I was gasping for breath. I was wondering if I was going to have to sleep with the light on again. Modern house though now, no cellar dwellers here!

Mia Sheridan has written a twisty thriller that’s full of spooky horror. I was hooked on the adrenaline buzz and couldn’t wait to unravel what had happened at Lilith House.

Haddie is just the sweetest character. Totally intriguing. Mesmerising. I wanted to get into her head.

The book skips back in time to 13 years prior to Scarlett and Haddie moving in to when Scarlett’s friend Kandace lived there. I loved how the chapters moved between past and present each one revealing the secrets in that house.

I managed to pick up and solve some of the mystery but still had my mind blown by how the plot unfolded. One of those where I need a re-read to pick up the clues I missed.

Am I the only person who likes green skittles?

I stayed up until 3am this morning needing to see how this was going to end and let me tell you that I was blown away once again by Mia Sheridan!! She did tell us this was a bit different from the books she usually writes, and I was a bit skeptical to be honest, but it is MIA SHERIDAN, and she has never led me wrong.

Scarlett’s restlessness leads her Lilith House. She needed a clean break from L.A. to find herself as well as finding happiness for her seven-year-old daughter, Haddie. Scarlett wanted a fresh beginning and an opportunity to get her business off the ground and Lilith House was just the place. She knew the house had a past, and she wanted to right it and bring life back to it. She wanted love to live there as well. So, when the town hears that Lilith House was purchased by an outsider, they send Deputy Camden to check her out. Well he is in for a surprise because Scarlett has a connection to his past that left me speechless. Oh, and YES there is romance among this mystery!

Even though it is different from her normal books, it was still unbelievably amazing. Mia has a way with making her words come alive and helping us get lost and enwrapped in them. Let me tell you that once you start you will not want to be interrupted by anything!! I remember when she told us on Instagram about this book and how it was going to be a bit different and yet I could not wait. Thank you, Mia Sheridan, for sharing your beautiful gems with us and allowing us to get lost in them! I know this is a book that I will be re-reading. ❤❤ Now I will be patiently waiting for what she will grace us with next. Kara~ 6 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Speechless

This book was so haunting. I have never read one of this authors new adult romances but I have read four of her novels and each one is better than the last. This a dark story and contains very disturbing material. There is unspeakable crimes done to young girls in the name of religion. A twisted school with evil inhabitants and deep sorrowful secrets. Children hidden in the basement, girls ruthlessly used to satisfy depraved men all in the name of God. But they were evil and they twisted the words and did vile acts and murdered and judged and played God and decided belligerent who died. It was so horrific but then there was the light. There was little Haddie who was such a pure and loving soul. And Scarlett her Mother that bought that horribly dark place and brought light into it. Camden was such a great hero. I loved this book. I can't say enough about it. Words fail me but I loved it. It has serious triggers and there is a romance in it but it's not a romance. It is the battle between good and evil. Sins and miracles. And the stretching the human spirit.

Wow!! This story is SO amazing!! Mia has really been stretching her artistic wings these past several books, and let me tell you - I am loving it!! Fallen has a little bit of everything: suspense, mystery, spookiness, romance, and a touch of the supernatural. And at the center of it all, a house that has seen so much. Lilith House, a former home for Wayward Girls.

Lilith House never slept. Lilith House had stories to tell, especially in the dark.

I absolutely loved Scarlett and Haddie, especially Haddie. Scarlett, a single mom who has perhaps moved a little too quickly in her impromptu purchase of Lilith House. She feels an instant connection to it because her close friend Kandace was once sent there to be "reformed" before she was never seen or heard from again. She has big plans for Lilith House, but almost immediately she starts getting creeped out by the noises she's hearing and the doors that seem to open and close on their own. Not to mention, her daughter Haddie, who seems to be extra senstive to certain things, develops an odd fascination with the woods surrounding the property.

Camdem West was certainly an intriguing character. I wasn't sure at first if he was someone to be trusted or not. Then as Mia unveiled each chapter, it became clear which way to lean. It was fascinating to see Scarlett's reaction to him versus Haddie's reaction to him. That's all I'm going to say on that topic.

Mia is such a master at weaving a riveting story. It drives me mad but I love at the same time how she leads the reader through a chapter which ends with a little cliffie and then changes gears and introduces a chapter from the past that interconnects perfectly with what we just read, and SO many times I sat back in awe at how the information is just so seamlessly presented. I shake my head in wonder every time I read a Mia book. It's like, "how does she do this SO masterfully?"

I really was on the edge of my seat so many times while reading. Every time something spooky would happen, and especially every one of the Haddie POV chapters. I SO love that little girl and the light that surrounds her.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough, especially right now as we are heading into the Halloween season!! Perfect timing!! I couldn't read this book fast enough to see how it all turned out. I loved so many of the side characters. If you are not usually a scary book reader, don't let the premise of this story dissuade you from reading. It really is a fascinating story!! I ate it up!!

Whoa! Mia Sheridan has a knack for suspense and I’m loving it! Fallen is packed with plot twists, secrecy, turns I didn’t see coming and some really crazy head spinning outcomes. Without a doubt it kept me gripped and reading nearly straight through in one sitting. There is a ton to unpack in this book and I refuse to unpack it for you. I recommend you read Fallen if you’re in the mood for a creepy page turner and do yourself a favor...go in with an open and spoiler free mind.

6 stars!!

It isn’t often that I’m compelled to sit down and write a review the moment I finish a book, but this book caught me so completely I couldn’t start another until I had processed some of my thoughts on paper.

Scarlett and her young daughter have moved into Lilith House with grand plans of renovating the former girls school into an event center. But the house has a dark past, and that darkness seems to permeate everything around them. Her daughter begins to see a horned thing in the woods. The deputy sheriff is by turns hot and cold and clearly hiding something. And there is something off about the townspeople she meets. As she tries to turn the house into her dreams, she begins to wonder if there is something more sinister going on.

This is everything I didn’t know I needed right now. As I reached the climactic moments I couldn’t decide if I wanted to race to the end or slowly savor what was left. In the end I found a middle ground, pausing every now and then to reflect (or send a message to Kim with an OMG!) but moving steadily through to those final moments.

I loved watching Scarlett and her daughter interact. Even as Scarlett’s worry for her daughter grows, she is always careful to consider what effect events, actions, and words will have on Haddie. Haddie is such a special character that I fell in love with her differences from the beginning and knew she had a unique part to play in this story.

As the darkness surrounded them, I couldn’t help but wonder exactly where the story would lead. Narrated by Scarlett and by her friend, Kandace, who lived at Lilith House just before it closed 13 years before, the parallels between the past and present kept a chill running through the story as secrets are slowly revealed and tensions in the present rise to dangerous levels.

I love this story. It is not a romance, as I usually read, but the story of a town, a house, and the things that are covered up in the name of righteousness. In fact, the romance is secondary or even tertiary to the other aspects of the book. There are so many small details, insignificant in the moment, but immense in hindsight. So many threads between the past and the present, legend and reality. I was surprised several times throughout the book, even as I was looking for the twists - they were not where or what I expected.

Sheridan continually surprises me with the depth of her writing. When I think of her I often think of her Signs of Love books, but between Fallen and the Where series, I am here for everything she writes - whether it is romance or thriller, she can do it all!

Scarlett and her seven year old daughter Haddie just moved two hours away from their hometown Los Angeles and into Lilith House. They want to bring new life into the beautiful old estate.
The huge mansion hasn't been lived in for over a decade. Back then it was a 'reform' school for bad girls.
One of those bad girls was Scarlett's childhood friend Kandace - who disappeared without a trace a week before the school closed its doors forever - after a tragic event.
The hot & mysterious local deputy Camden seems to be very interested in Scarlett and her dreams for the house. But can we trust him, or is there something more sinister going on? Which seems to be the theme in this house and the town and the woods - there are lots of weird people and sounds and sightings and whatnots.

Let's hope Scarlett and Haddie will find their happily ever after at Lilith House ....

Well. I loved it. Period.
I have no idea why I even read it though! I'm way too easily scared to read or watch creepy/eerie/scary things! ☺

But it's a Mia Sheridan book - so I just had to read it. And what better time to read something like this than October of this year. ☺
The cover and blurb are so creepy already and then you start reading and it is a bit creepy, but also so very heartbreaking and sad and adorable and ugh. I just loved reading this!! I really did! I couldn't put it down!
You immediately love Scarlett and Haddie. The little girl is ... special. And we need all the special we can get with what's happening here! ☺
We get chapters in Scarlett's, Haddie's and Cam's POV - but we also go back 13 years for some chapters in Kandace's POV - she'll tell us what happened in that house back then. And it wasn't anything great.
I'm not going into what is happening or what happened - I don't want to spoil anything. READ IT. It's a beautiful story. It's not some silly haunted-house-halloween-demon-vampire thingy. We don't have ghosts flying around and scaring us to death. But real people can be even more creepy.
This book gives us lots of suspensy and exciting and sweet and scary and mysterious and twisty-turny and so very many heartbreaking moments!
That's it. I'm not telling you more about the story! You need to find out what happens to our girls by RUNNING TO AMAZON RIGHT THE EFF NOW!!!!

BEAUTIFUL STORY! DON'T BE SCARED! READ IT!

Plus also ... Mr. Netflix - here you go - your next hit show!

Dnf @ 20%

The writing ruined this book for me. Its not that it was particularly bad but it wasn’t good enough to suck me into this world. As for the characters even when I was 20% into the book it didn’t felt like I knew them at all and maybe the author was going for exactly that since its a thriller and well anything can happen but then I had nothing to cling onto.

Scarlett and Kandace are told to be best of friends but then whenever Scarlett mentions her its as if she is repeating the same things. So again their friendship seemed very dry to me.
