The Last Dragorai #2

A Lair So Loyal

Rate this book
From a dark, magic-ravaged world comes an enthralling new fantasy romance series. Five brothers, last of an ancient Alpha bloodline, each bound by fire and blood to their majestic dragons.

She was saved by a dragon lord. And now he thinks he owns her.

Rescued as a baby by Tyomar, a powerful alpha bonded to a fierce dragon, Oshali was raised in a secluded sanctum. Historic tales of adventure and epic love captivate her, and she’s convinced there is a breathtaking world beyond the sanctum’s walls.

Twenty-five years later, she is now the liaison between the sanctum and Tyomar’s notorious clan… and his visits are equally rousing and nerve-racking.

The rules of the sanctum forbid him from seeing her face, but she is in awe of his intense good-looks and charm, even though she knows he still sees her as a child.

When Oshali accepts an assignment to travel across dangerous war-torn lands without her veil, Tyomar is furious. His overbearing protection reveals a fierce, dark possession.

Insatiable fire ignites between them.

And the passionate tension erupts into something deliciously carnal.

Yet Oshali knows Tyomar is a threat to her heart and her freedom. He refuses to leave her side, and she refuses to tolerate his controlling interference.

When a shocking revelation about her heritage exposes a deception, Oshali must choose where her loyalties lie, knowing Tyomar won’t easily relinquish what he has decided is his.

A LAIR SO LOYAL is the second book in The Last Dragorai, a steamy fantasy romance series. This series can be read as standalones but will be better enjoyed if read in order. Includes a HEA.

I liked this well enough...but I didn't love it like I loved the first one.

The chemistry between the two leads wasn't there for me and I thought the story dragged quite a bit, especially in the middle. Conversely, however, when it wasn't dragging, it felt rushed.

There were also a LOT more editing mistakes in this book. I am usually not TOO much of a stickler in that arena, but they were frequent and egregious enough to be distracting.

Oh well. Still really enjoying this series and looking forward to the next one.

Welp, it wasn't as good as the previous one. In this one, the meeting between the MCs were already established prior to the book, infact since she was a baby.

So already we lost the opportunity to understand their chemistry and that is something I didn't really like in books. However, I do like the South Queen introduction in here and the scene with Ryn the Dragon. In fact, I think the author underutilized the use of these dragons. I want them to have a more prominent role in this series.

So pretty please, next time?

One word to describe this book: FORGETTABLE.

I'm finally getting around to reviewing all the books I read during my exam period, but didn't have the time to review then. It's been almost exactly a month since I finished this one, and I remember almost NOTHING about it.

Plot: something vague about the heroine Oshali (just had to look her name up), who was rescued by the hero Tyomar as a baby then given to some magical clan to raise. She wants to set out on her own to complete a quest. Hero insists on coming along, friendship turns to lust, etc etc.

I had high hopes for this book because I enjoyed the series opener a lot more than I was expecting to. Unfortunately, in the follow-up, Ellis reverts to the same problems which made me give up on her writing in the first place.

❌ No chemistry between the hero and heroine. Where's the build-up? How can they be friends for years, and he literally knew her as a baby, then suddenly the switch flips and he's attracted to her? This can't just come out of nowhere (but it did).

❌ Boring plot. I could not have cared less about Oshali's quest, and Ellis made little effort to get me to care about it.

❌ I'm massively disappointed because I was expecting great things from Tyomar's character. He's supposed to be the funniest and most level-headed of his brothers, and I love seeing 'good boy sent crazy by desire' plots, but he was a lifeless cardboard cutout of a character.

❌ Oshali's not much better. She could've been almost any 'young, spunky, naive' heroine from any fantasy book.

❌ Even the omegaverse element wasn't particularly leaned into.

In short: letdown.

My Review

The second book in this series had a lot lighter flavour than other books by this author.
The couple at the centre of this are Tyomar a Dragorai and Oshali a Mheyu Guardian in training.
The two have interacted for years Oshali being Tyomar’s liaison at the sanctum she’s always been veiled as per custom and the two have some history in the fact that he brought her to the Mheyu’s for sanctuary when he found her as a baby.

Oshali’s twenty-fifth birthday is approaching and she has to decide what she wants to leave her home for shores unknown or commit to a life in service. Owing her caretakers a debt she undertakes a pilgrimage south to retrieve a scroll something Tyomar is not happy about so much so he decides to accompany her on the journey.

This was actually a sweet love story it still had all of the heat I anticipated but it also felt warm and loving. Oshali well she can be rather stubborn and she’s convinced herself that Tyomar will leave her like everyone else in her life so far she definitely has some abandonment issues.
Tyomar certainly doesn’t help his own cause by not being fully transparent and feeding her fear when a simple explanation would have sufficed and put her mind at ease.

This series is incredibly imaginative with some great world-building. This furthered the story arc and I’m incredibly interested in seeing where this series goes next. Book one did have the slight edge for me but I still enjoyed this one a lot and if fantasy romance with dragons is your Jam then this is sure to be a hit.

I really liked this one.

I know some people complained about typos and what not, but it didn't phase me too bad. I actually liked Tyomar and Oshali. I loved how his dragon protected her and grabbed her as a baby. Then Tyomar was drawn to her and cared about her as she grew into a bright independent woman, even though he didn't see her as a mate right away. I thought it was sweet.

We get more info into the lesser-mortals war, this time from the point of view of what the Queen is up to. The selfishness and despicableness of both the King and Queen, and their threats towards the Dragorai have pushed the clan into taking action.

I'm excited to see what's happening in the next one, if they make their move against the queen and what's going on that has Zendyor acting so suspicious.

A Lair So Loyal is the second book in The Last Dragorai series featuring Tyomar and Oshali. This book felt different from the first one because it features a ward-like relationship between the two main characters. Tyomar was previously featured in Nyro and I'mya's book and I remembered him as the mediator between the brothers and the one who gets along with everyone. In this installment, we get to see another side to Tyomar when he is with Oshali—the young girl he rescued so many years ago. I would recommend reading A Lair So Sinful because Zoey Ellis already did an excellent job establishing the world and its characters in that book. Tyomar and Oshali's story furthers that world building by introducing us to new tidbits and information about the rest of the dragorai brothers and their impact on this world.
"I want every part of you, inside and out. Everything you're willing to give and everything you're not. And I will have it, little cloak."

Oshali is an orphan who had been rescued by Tyomar. Since then, she has been the point contact between the Mheyu, an organization that documents the history of this world and are followers of the Goddesses, and the dragorai. As always, Zoey Ellis excels at capturing the dynamic chemistry and tension between Tyomar and Oshali. Some of their scenes were hilarious, sexy, and erotic. Both characters are stubborn and they often clash because of their strong personalities. Oshali has been in love with Tyomar since young but believes that he will one day abandon her after finding his mate. What she doesn't realize is that Tyomar only has eyes for her and has been biding his time. My favorite part about this book was seeing how their relationship developed from acquaintances to lovers over time.
"You are mine, Oshali. You have always been mine… There won't be anything for you to give to anyone because I will have already taken it. Your heart, your mind, your love, and your kiss."

In the end, I really enjoyed this book and will be excitedly waiting for Zendyor and Elora's book in A Lair So Primal! I've been wanting to read their story since Nyro and I'mya. He is the brother with the quick temper and we've been given hints as to why he has been so distracted lately. If I could summarize Tyomar and Oshali's book, I would say that it was a journey to find oneself and freedom but ending up with so much more. I loved Tyomar's possessiveness and obsession over Oshali as well as his frequent nose rubs. It's very characteristic of the brothers! I recommend this series to fantasy romance lovers who like a bit of spice in their books because the love scenes were fire.

I will start by saying that I love this author’s books. I have read them all and I’ve loved every single one. I have been looking forward to this book since I finished A Lair So Sinful, but this one just wasn’t as good as the first book.

First, I thought it was pretty short, at only 176 pages on kindle (the first book was 290 pages). Second, there were SO MANY typos, grammatical mistakes and punctuation errors. It was very distracting. Third, I just didn’t feel a connection between Oshali and Tyomar. There wasn’t much dialogue between them in the book, then he was all of a sudden ripping her clothes off. When he professed his “deep” love for her, it literally came out of nowhere. The reader is just told that Oshali and Tyamor have known each other since she was a baby and he rescued her, but we don’t get to experience their relationship through their interactions and dialogue. In fact, there wasn’t a whole lot of dialogue happening. Most of the book was just Oshalis’s inner monologue, which I found to be a little boring. What little dialogue there was between the two, I didn’t find captivating. I also found Oshali to be quite annoying. She was so insecure, and the way that she kept fighting Tyomar on being his mate was beyond frustrating. The majority of the book was written from her perspective, so I really can’t say whether or not I liked Tyomar; I feel pretty indifferent towards him.

I do love this world that the author has created though. I find the overarching story to be quite captivating. I will continue on with this series, but overall I wasn’t a huge fan of this book. Honestly, I think the author kind of rushed it! The first book came out in March of 2021 and this one came out in June of 2021. If she had just taken one more month to publish this book, I think at the very least she could have fixed all the typos, which would have made a huge difference! Hopefully the next one will be better.

A Lair So Loyal (#2) features Oshali and Tyomar.

‘Tyomar. Dark, almost black eyes glared back at her, and Oshali forced her jittery nerves into submission so she wouldn’t turn and run back inside like a child.’

Oshali was handed over to the Mheyu by Tyomar when she was just an infant. Having never known her family, she finds solace in the companionship of the Mheyu but when Silette and Joren, her childhood friends leave to explore the Twin Realms together, Oshali feels abandoned yet again, questioning herself if staying behind for Tyomar was worth giving-up her freedom to go out into the reality of war-torn realm.

this actually had promising potential and I liked some scenes here and there. My favorite one was when Oshali (heroine) was dragging Sethorn (hero's brother)'s arrogant ass through the mud. 🤙🏼

“Why do you bother to wear a veil when none of the other guardians do?" Sethorn was watching her closely. "Forgive me,” he said, his deep voice smooth. “I’m sure there are many reasons to shield your beauty, but I am curious.”

“Your brother has seen me without my veil,” she found herself saying.

Sethorn raised a brow. “Oh?”

“Yes. It disappears when in the presence of good looks or intelligence.”

Not to exaggerate but I lived for that shit. 😭🤚🏼HOWEVER, the book lost me somewhere near the middle partーthat was when it slowly disintegrated for me, especially when I noticed that the storytelling didn't seem quite as cohesive.

The connection between the H and h wasn't well-established, either; their relationship progression felt disjointed and didn't have the natural flow that I usually look for in a couple. They didn't have that ✨spark✨ for me. And the last half of the book felt really rushed as well? like it couldn't wait to wrap things up asap so it was quick to resolve the conflict, which was honestly lukewarm at best. Consequently, the ending didn't feel as satisfying.

Still, I heard that the first book is better though, so imma check it out.

Well this one didn't live up to the first one IMO. Oh sure, it had the continuing overarching plot from the first book which made it very interesting but ultimately this one failed when it came to the MCs and romance.

Oshali...meh. Honestly the longer I was in her head and specifically her logic/reasoning when she needlessly fought or tried to run from Tyomar made me dislike her. I understand that certain events and actions required/deserved some of her reactions but in the end the final chapters left me annoyed with her. And despite her coming to terms with being Tyomars mate (only after being shown absolute proof) did her brain go "gee, you know that does make alot of sense. Huh I guess I am his mate!" And I honestly just couldn't understand why the process from A to Z was so silly and not better written in regards to pacing. She was very reasonable about wanting to experience life and explore but the way she went about it and fought Tyomar on it felt childish. Which was ironic because she whined much of the first half of the book about how he only saw her as a child.

Tyomar was simply ok. He suffered a similar issue that Nyro did in the first book except I didn't care enough about him to be upset that we never got a more in-depth backstory. What did bother me was the lack of personality. As with the first book we get about 20% hero POV and 80% heroine POV. So perhaps that doesn't allow us as good an insight into their personalities BUT Tyomar just didn't stand out. At all. Like nothing special or unique compared to the other brothers or Nyro.

I also didn't enjoy that Oshali claimed she'd been in love with him since she was eighteen. When from my understanding they'd had brief contact and some slightly in-depth conversations but usually, and I'm going on assumption here, they'd be more business like since it was like going to the library for info. 🤷‍♀️

So as far as story and plot it was as fascinating as I expected and has me interested to see the series through. As far as romance, it left a lot to be desired. The romance and omega/alpha dynamic was very lacking IMO. I felt it had a bigger role in the first book whereas here it felt like an afterthought. Especially once they became fully mated. If you didn't read the first book you wouldn't have any idea what their mating entailed and what Oshali went through unlike how we experienced the full event in the first book with I'mya.

This did have quite a bit of errors. Most began at the 30% mark with an extra word in a sentence that didn't need to be there. The use of past tense instead of present...that sort of thing. Was a little distracting.

Ps: In the epilogue we're told how much Tyomar enjoyed Oshali kissing his shaved head...I literally don't remember his lack of hair coming up once. Or really much with how he looked tbh. So that was news to me.

This is the second book in The Last Dragorai series and follows the powerful Dragorai Tyomar and Oshali. Tyomar and his dragon rescued Oshali when she was a baby and left her in a secluded sanctum where she was raised. She grew up wishing to see more of the world and to know where she came from, why she is so proficient in magic and what part she will play in this life.

Oshali is the liaison between the sanctum and Tyomar's clan and whenever she meets with him, feelings and longing always rise up within her. When Oshali is given a task to complete before she can leave the sanctum for good, Tyomar is furious and ends up being her escort. Having finally seen Oshali's face, Tyomar realizes she is more to him than just a liaison and the heat that's been growing between them for years ignites. But Oshali has abandoment issues and wants freedom...Tyomar wants Oshali as his and to never leave her side...and there are secretes and revelations that have yet to surface. Can Oshali trust Tyomar? Can Tyomar convince Oshali to be his? What of the secrets that are exposed?

I loved the first book in this series but this one fell flat for me and I am really bummed.

1. There were several grammatical errors.
2. There were WAY more descriptions and inner thoughts than actual dialogue so I found the romantic relationship between Tyomar and Oshali surface level at best. I was missing that connection between the two of them so their love and passion didn't feel believable to me. With that in mind, I wasn't able to connect to the steamy scenes and they felt sub-par.
3. The plot felt a little disjointed.

I really wanted to love this one but I honestly didn't connect to the characters or the story or feel engaged or attached. Tyomar didn't feel like the badass alpha Dragorai and Oshali seemed confused about everything. My favorite part actually was when the couple from book 1 were present and when Oshali and Tyomar's dragon were playing. I will definitely continue this series but unfortunately this one didn't work for me. Maybe it's just me?

Normally, Zoey Ellis is an auto-buy author for me, but the dialogue in this book was a bit cringey, repetitive, and circular (ex: paraphrased here: 'you left me' 'I needed you to know to trust me like I trust you' 'how was I supposed to know that you trusted me to trust you?'). Overall, the plot was interesting, but I found the typos in this installment incredibly distracting (like starting on page one onward); almost felt like the wrong draft of the book was submitted for publishing.

I knew that once I started this book I was going to struggle to put it down. I would have not had sleep and work demanded my time. I LOVED this second installment of the series. Once again we find ourselves all wrapped up with a dragori Alpha - also known as Anointed One- because these dragoris are one of the few creations from the Goddesses. A dragori is an ancient Alpha bonded to his dragon. Tyomar (Ty) is the second dragori we get to know and in this book the Omega is Oshali. There is so much mystery around Oshali- who is she? where did she come from? why is she so talented with magic? But the most important question is why is there this indescribable connection/attraction between Oshali and Ty? As we learn more about Oshali and her mysterious background we fall more and more in love with Ty's possessive and obsessive caring for Oshali. Ty will not let Oshali be and despite her reluctance she cannot stay away from Ty. Their story was a very sweet and exciting with so many elements of intrigue and mystery. I cannot wait for the next book!
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

Huge step down and disappointment compared to the first book. The characters have no chemistry and frankly I’m looking forward to Zendyor’s story because of the amount of hints being dropped in the first book. Makes me wonder if this is just a filler to that story, thus the low quality

3.5 stars rounded to 4.
This is the second book in the series and it follows the overarching plot while exploring the relationship between Tyomar and Oshali. Tyomar is one of the Dragorai brothers who saved Oshali and brought her to Meyhu temple when she was a baby. While being educated at the temple, she becomes a liaison between the Meyhu and Tyomar. When Oshali is tasked with a dangerous mission, Tyomar insists on escorting her and sparks fly. While I enjoyed the story, it didn't grab me as much as book one. I wanted a more in-depth exploration of the alpha/omega bond as well as less focus on inner thoughts. I did enjoy Oshali's sass, though Tyomar left me a bit cold. There were also some editing issues here that should be addressed. While this wasn't my favorite by the author, I'm still intrigued by the other brothers stories and will continue with the series.

In desperate need of an editor

This feels like a draft, not a finished polished work. I’m so mad I preordered this. I was expecting something without so many and so obvious grammatical errors or wrong word usage. It was extremely distracting. I should have given it less stars, but I’m really enjoying the world this takes place in. The storyline is good. The plot with the queen needed to be ironed out better. It’s very confusing. Even if the queen needs heirs to appear more powerful any heir would be a threat to her rein. This is washed over and her motivation are not clearly explained. Im not sure if it’s being saved for another book or if the author is not bothering with basic plot details. I really think not fleshing that out in this book was a waste.

A Lair so loyal by Zoey Ellis is book 2 in the dragorai fantasy series.
I. Am. A fan.
I accidentally discovered this series and this is just perfect for my fantasy lover heart but I don't read YA.
World building- the buildup is simple but detailed and it was an engaging and easy to grasp.
Chemistry between the characters was so hot.
I can feel the climax building up with the war approaching the dragorais.
The diferent clans and the historical mention of diferent realms.
In simple words, I freaking loved it.

The first 60ish % of this book was a little to slow for me. After that everything went way too fast and there were many questions left unanswered. Because of that i thought there might be a second book about Tyomar and Oshali but there is not. Which makes me wonder why some specific questions were not answered.

Oshali had been a foundling, raised in a Sanctum and trained as a guardian. Tyomar was the one who had delivered her there as a baby, and 25 years later, she was still his contact with them; She was also a liottle in love with the dragonaire. When she is sent on a mission, he tries to protect her - or is he hoping that she doesnt find out the truth about her past? Why does the Qreen have such an ionterest in her? Wi;l; she lose herself in the quest, or will she and Tyomar be able to forge a future togeter? Cant wait to read more!

It was okay book. I think my biggest issue was their relationship was written like a timeline and didn't flow organically. I feel this relationship needed two books to truly develop and also storyline could have been more detailed. I feel Zoey Ellis is not a one book per couple writer. I honestly wanted more to get into the book.

Holy smokes! Book 2 definitely continues with the steam factor that book 1 had!

The difference here is that while things with I’mya and Nyro started more aggressive/ animalistic? Lol things between Oshali and Tyomar start off slow-ish.

Osahli and Tyomar have a years to get to know one another, even if it was never in a romantic way. Also, Oshali was begrudgingly in love with Tyomar.

Tyomar found Oshali as baby and took her to the Mheyu, where she stayed and was raised. She also showed great talent for the way of the Mehyu and was put into training to become a Mheyu Guardian.

It’s after Oshali has “graduated” and sent out on a mission across the destroyed kingdom to retrieve an artifact from the province of the queen that things get good!

I liked that we get to see I’mya and Nyro and see a little of what happened after we last saw them and how the story shifted from one brother to another. It wasn’t glitchy or random at all. The way that Tyomar and Oshali eventually come to realize they have feelings for one another and how they handle it was a bit funny. Tyomar was just sure and Oshali had the norm girl doubts about the lord loving her too. What was a little weird for me was how quick Oshali gave in. She’s super smart and knows everything about the Dragorai which makes her suspicious of Tyomar, and yet she chucks all of that out of the door as soon as Tyomar services her!

What was truly interesting besides the transition of main characters, was Oshali’s background. She gets to find out about her past and understands why she has a connection to the Dragorai and Tyomar. She’s definitely going to be a force when it comes down to facing the king and queen.
