Wishes for Rohi

Rate this book
Ashley Mostrich gets one heck of a birthday surprise when the guy he brought home for the night turns out to be the twin brother of the prince he didn't know he was supposed to marry. Unbeknownst to Ashley, his grandpa made a deal with a jinn and promised him off to the royal family before he was even born.

Zamir is the heir to the mystical kingdom of Palmyra and promises he will love Ashley in time, while his younger brother, Zaire, is trying to get into Ashley 's bed again. Ashley wants to be a faithful fiancé to Zamir, but he cannot deny the powerful chemistry he feels with Zaire. Additional jealousy flares when Ashley discovers that Zamir’s heart already belongs to another, but the pressure for the wedding is on because the future of the Palmyran people hinges on a royal union magically producing an heir.

Once Ashley realizes that Zaire’s feelings for him might be more than physical, he finds himself falling in love with the wrong brother and risking the fate of the entire kingdom. It’ll take a miracle—or one very powerful wish—for everyone to have a happy ending.

It’s Ashley’s birthday, but there is no one to celebrate with.
At a bar he meets a deliciously sexy man, they end up in Ashley’s bed and have a steamy night. Ashley is smitten by Zaire.
The next morning strange things are happening.
At his doorstep stands the spitting image of the man in his bed.
In his bed is Prince Zaire at his doorstep stands Prince Zamir Shamoon of the Tenth Shamoon Dynasty. Yes, it’s dazzling.
Zamir will marry Ashley, like Ashley’s grandparents promised a long time ago.
Ashley got nobody so it seems okay.
There are some complications, one: Ashley is in love with Zaire, two: Zamir loves someone else.
The twins are competitive af, so there are some firework.

It’s a lovely story, playing in a different world with some amazing magic, in a wink they can move themselves, clothes on and off just like that and Zaire can shift into cats, little black ones or in a big tiger.
There are banters and fights, angry decisions, some sad moments and some fun, but at the end... just like a good fairy tale, there is a happy ending.
A lovely, captivating story, there’s sadness, happiness, and destiny. It has some delicious steamy moments. The meaning behind the title, awesome!
Overall an entertaining and enjoyable written experience. I love me some good magic.

I received a copy of this title to read and review for Wicked Reads

Wishes for Rohi is the first installment in the Jinn and Tonic series, and the first I've read as a new-to-me author, KL Hiers. Due to a not-my-cup-of-tea situation, I believe this will be the first and last, as I will not be continuing on with the series.

To preface this review, the writing style suited me just fine but the mindset of the narrator was too infantilized for my tastes. The emotions just skating the surface, completely at odds with the human condition- no fear, never questioning, just follows this stranger to a strange land with no doubts. High. A giddy high Ashley was riding the entire time, where nothing felt real, cavity sweet yet confusing, as the world building was never truly explained.

I can appreciate the fairy tale vibe the novel/series set. Obviously this is fantasy, so the novel must be read with an air of disbelievability, but I still need an undercurrent of realism to make the character seem lifelike. Fast-paced, to the point where the emotions were nonexistent, moving on from one scene to the next without Ashley unpacking everything he just experienced.

Ashley's mindset was that of a child, giddy and silly, just following along without questioning anything, immediately making besties with anyone put in his path without questioning their motives, speaking and interacting with them as if he had known them his entire life, bantering and teasing- it was bizarre. In the next moment, he would be stomp-his-foot, f-bomb dropping, slap-happy, just waiting for him to throw his drink like so popular in black and white films featuring flighty heroines- behaviors infantilized, saccharine sugar sweet, but at odds with the cursing and seduction. I never truly got a bead on Ashley's true personality.

The romance and warm and fuzzies are front and center, where you hardly notice that it's not a fully fleshed out world and magical system, or at least it was never explained in-depth to the reader via Ashley, because Ashley apparently didn't seem to care, too high on insta-love and romance and wedding planning and royalty and forbidden romance. As I said, Ashley didn't seem to have a personality outside of being giddy or a flash of anger at the stranger he was to call husband.

I can see the appeal of the novel, those looking for a quick escape without much drama will undoubtedly devour the novel and ask for another helping. I just needed more depth, more emotion, more actions/reaction dictated by the human condition, even when set in a fairy tale fantasy novel.

Never fear, everything is tied up in a pretty bow. A trio of siblings get their happy endings. The bestie sister's romantic insta paring at the end is what solidified my decision that this author and series isn't for me.

Zaire, especially in cat form, was the shining star of the entire novel, and the only reason I read until its completion.

Awww! Cute and perfect.

I was really excited about this book (and a bit afraid, because I had read 5 star book from the author and one I DNF'd too).

But holy hell, yes and million more time yes! This book was everything I didn't know I needed.
The instasex starting scene, and promising forever at the start of the book? It was perfect. I don't like instalove stories, and this was exactly how it started, but I couldn't care less. I just loved everything that happened on the pages.

The twin surprise and that they are jinn and live in a mystical kingdom where they are royals! Holy hell! Things I didn't know I loved until a read about it. Tell me more...

Phew - I really loved every page of this book. It was really sweet and funny at times. It was romantic, and the shifter scenes just so adorable. When Zaire shifted into cat, just awww. The cutest.

Ashley was a great character, he was awkward and naive but so loveable. And Zaire, aww, loved him. And together, wow. Scorching hot.

I didn't liked Zamir but after all he really got what he wanted. Thanks for Ashley. I love it when in fantasy land the human is the one who saves the day, every time.

The cutest book I read in a long time. Loved the ending, it was really romantic and sweet. Loved, loved, loved this book and highly recommend it.

Falling for the wrong twin brother, discovering that you're half part a jinn and could get pregnant, and can shift into animal. Loved everyting about it.

Ps. I couldn't wait to see what 'Rohi' describes and means, and ahhh, so sweet!

WISHES FOR ROHI is the first book in the Jinn and Tonic series, and we start with Ashley. He is single but longs for a romantic affair, with someone to love him. It is his birthday but even his best friend has forgotten, so he spends most of the evening with a stray cat until his friend remembers and takes him out. There he meets the mysterious Zaire who gives him a night of passion unlike anything before. The morning after though - well, you expect it to be awkward sometimes, but maybe not twin brother turning up saying you are his betrothed awkward. Unfortunately, this is what happens to Ashley, and it looks like he was just a toy for Zaire.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was obvious that Zamir and Ashley shouldn't end up together, but it also looked like they would, even though neither of them wanted it. I was completely enthralled by every word and situation. I loved Nesrina and her down-to-earth abilities and empathy. But for me, the real Queen was Moira! She was brilliant and I loved every scene she was in.

Smoothly written, with characters to enjoy, this is a book I have no hesitation in recommending, and I can't wait to see who is next in this series.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

I’m not sure how I feel about “Wishes for Rohi”, I didn’t love it or hate it, if anything I really disliked most of it. I really wanted to like this story more than I did, I mean it has djinn in it, what’s not to like. Unfortunately I found Zamir to be unlikable and a pain; Ashley too flaky when it came to “choosing” who he was in love with (seriously I kept getting whiplash) and how he interacted with everyone was annoying; the only ones I liked were Zaire and Nesrina-they made the story tolerable. I kept wishing (haha) that Zaire would find someone else honestly. I know this is a fictional story but I wanted Ashley to ask questions about his betrothal to the djinn, etc but no he just goes right along with it, asking no questions, just wanting his fairy tale ending, I just couldn’t. If you’re looking for an insta love story, with lots of sugar, very little drama and little backstory of anything, this is the one for you.

I give this story 1.5 stars for Zaire and Nesrina.

Ashley was betrothed to one prince, but attracted to his brother, caught between Zamir who wanted to marry him for duty and Zaire who seemed to want Ashley for his true self. What could Ashley do when the fate of a kingdom seemed to rest on his shoulders even if his heart tugged him into another direction?

A pretty heavy choice to make and being a witness to Ashley's journey has been a magical and fun ride. The kingdom of Palmyra was amazingly depicted, with its ugly and beautiful sides, and I liked how the author explained the magic of the marriage ceremony and the one important wish granted. I cheered when I reached the "aha!" point of the story when I finally got the meaning behind the title. K.L. Hiers took me to a bit over forty percent of the book to finally understand who Rohi even was, when none of the characters until that point were named so lol... AND, I loved the meaning of the title...

It's hard not to give too much of the story away, but I really consider it a must read for anyone looking for a light-hearted, magic filled story. The humor and the banter were on point, the main and secondary characters were interesting, there was enough steam to burn up the pages, and the romance...well, read and find out. I guarantee you'll have fun.

When a handsome prince who is also a jinn shows up at your door and tells you you’re his one and only betrothed, and that he’s here to take you away to his magical kingdom, a happily ever after is guaranteed, right? But what if...you unknowingly hooked up with his mischievous, infuriating yet somehow also perfect twin brother the night before? What if your marriage is prophesied to save a kingdom, but your heart would rather be with a guy who can snark like a boss and turn into a tiger at will? If your answer is, an epic romance with tons of banter, steam, and an enchanted land that has some very real world problems that may or may not be solved with the clever application of contract law, then you're absolutely right. I loved this story-- Ashley, our human protagonist, is kind, caring, and more than capable of dealing with events that would flatten any other hapless human to end up in his circumstances. Zaire is A LOT, but in the best possible way. Their romance, and their story, is a lot of fun, and well worth the read.

What started off as a fun night out turns into something very special for Ashley. I would of loved to see the look on everyone's faces when that door was opened and the hilarious truth revealed. Zamir was such a cheeky bloke, a bit of a trickster and romantic at heart but forever competing with his brother who will lead their people. Zaire was kind and tried so hard to be honorable but didn't feature much but his role was vital. The sister, oh man she was such a troublemaker but I would love to hang which her and cause some mischief. I floved this book with all my heart as it made me laugh, curse and hope for a miraculous and divine intervention, it was all that and a bag of chips. I loved the tenderness that was shown and the selflessness, my favourite part was finding out the meaning behind Rohi. A departure from what you would usually expect from this author but handled with care and most importantly a stellar story with lovable characters.

KL Hiers has delivered yet another amazing story - with a twist on mistaken identity, magic and many other glorious, mystical happenings. Deeper undercurrents of equality, acceptance and coming together to make the world better make it even more lovely. It’s funny, sexy and super sweet - Ashley and Zaire are absolutely perfect (and did I say sexy?) together - you just have to read this. I can’t wait for the next one!

This book was a surprise. It was so much more than I was expecting.
The twins are really fun and so damn competitive.
There’s this weird love triangle that’s not really a love triangle because Ashley loves Zaire but has to marry Zamir that loves someone else. It’s a damn mess, a rollercoaster, but I loved it.
It’s full of surprises, from magic, shifting, I had so much fun reading it and I’ll definitely read more of this series 💗

Its Ashley’s birthday and he’s alone. He picks up Zaire at a bar. Little does Ashley know but Zaire is the twin of the man he’s promised to marry. Ashley’s grandfather made a deal with a Jinn and promised him to a royal family. He accepts Zamir’s proposal but realizes he’s in love with Zaire. Good story. After a crappy start to his birthday, Ashley gets the ending of his dreams when he beds Zaire. Then, sublime turns to ridiculous when Zamir, Zaire’s twin brother, turns up claiming there’s an unbreakable marriage contract between himself and Ashley. Also, the brothers come from a hidden island surrounded by magic. Realizing there’s sibling rivalry between the brothers, Ashley tries to give Zamir a fair chance. But, when Ashley discovers that the contract is breaking hearts, he is put in an impossible position, also feeling betrayed and heartbroken.

The story told in the third person, entirely from Ashley’s viewpoint. There is super imagery of a fantasy world that is Disneyesque in appearance. Ashley must come to terms with what most people would class as a true mind-fuck situation. There are magical beings who can shape-shift and change location in the blink of an eye or click of fingers. There is also tension, and inequality between the supernatural races, resulting from historical wars. Regardless of the fantasy environment, I enjoyed the contrasting down-to-earth dialogue. Ashley is no ‘wilting flower’ who has an occasionally barbed tongue.

Zaire is the lovable rogue whose words can be interpreted in multiple ways, distracting from well-hidden depths. Ashley knows Zaire physically wants him. Zamir is the serious man with a kingdom to run and good intentions, prepared to do what his country demands.

It was nice to read a story where the people vying for Ashley’s affections were both good men. One wasn’t typically evil etc. A case could be made for Ashley being with either one. This aspect kept me wondering what would happen up to the final pages.

Wishes for Rohi for any reader is a good book. I enjoyed the story. It contains humor, confusion, love, sex, romance, good friends, amusing dialogue, and some angsty moments. However, if you are a fan of magical fantasy, male pregnancy, and that adult fairytale genre, I have no doubt it would score higher.

A score of 3.5 signifies, better than average. As with most reading, it is subjective to personal taste, and I like my angst ratcheted up a notch

This is a new author to me and I like Ashley and Zaire story! Ashley is celebrating his birthday dancing when he meets a handsome guy and he invited him to go home with him, what Ashley don’t know is that the guy he brought home turns out to be the twin brother of a Prince he didn't know he was supposed to marry. Ashley wasn’t aware that his grandpa made a deal with a jinn and promised him off to the royal family before he was even born so he is betrothed to marry Prince Zamir, he is the heir of the throne of the mystical kingdom of Palmyra.

Ashley accept the proposal because he feels lonely and Zamir promises he will love Ashley in time, but Zaire is always flirting with Ashley and he can’t forget the night they spend together, but Ashley wants to be a faithful to Zamir. You can see the chemistry between Ashley and Zaire, these two are perfect together and the sexy scenes between them are super hot. There’s a lot of drama because Ashley discovers that Zamir is in love with someone else, but neither of them can break the contact but also there’s a prophecy that the royal union will bless the kingdom with more children.

Ashley realizes that he is in love with Zaire but he can risked the fate of the kingdom, but a wish can change everything.....I enjoy this book and is very entertaining and I like that every character in the story and that at the end everyone could get their HEA.

Another truly amazing story from the awesome K.L Hiers! In one book Hiers manages to create an intricate and fascinating fantasy world that is so well detailed and thought out that it truly feels like you’re there in Palmyra. The characters are brilliant, complex and compelling. The siblings dynamics between the Shamoon twins and their sister is authentic, believable and hilarious. Nesrina is the confident, sassy woman we all want to be friends with! The love story is beautifully complicated for the characters, and you root all along for Ashley and Zaire to somehow make it work despite the arranged marriage to Zamir that they can’t get away from (damn you Granpa Carnage!). But everything turns out all right in the end and it’s just so magical, lovely and incredibly hot! The sex scenes in this are literally magical! Magic lube, endless orgasms, hours and hours of mind blowing sex! I already wanna read this again and look forward to the next release from Hiers, I can’t wait to see where she takes us next!

I cannot say enough how much I love Hiers' writing. Every book is a new adventure and a wonderful escape from the real world. This time with the first book in the Jinn and Tonic series (amazing title) is no exception. An adorable, sweet, fun love story with just the perfect dash of angst to make it perfect.

When Ashley finds himself in bed with a gorgeous prince from a far away land yet promised to his twin brother, he's whisked away to a new world, new rules and an entirely new life planned out for him. Much like I would be, Ashley is totally down for a change and embraces (mostly) this new adventure.

I love me a good love triangle and I hoped the entire time that the right pair would get together in the end. With some steamy scenes that keep you begging for more (kinda like Ashley) I read the entire book in one day. I am so happy, it's just the fluff I needed right now. Cannot wait for more of this series!

I loved everything about this. There was fluff. There was angst. There was laughter. And there was heat.

Ashley is just a guy trying to get through life when he meets a sexy stranger and takes him home. Little does he know, it’s the beginning of a whole new world for him. Zamir and Zaire are twins. Zamir is set to marry an unsuspecting Ashley. Zaire initially is looking to stick it to his brother by sticking it to Ashley. What Zaire doesn’t count on his the chemistry between them and the feelings that grow.

There are definitely layers to this story and I enjoyed pulling the back one by one a revealing a story that was unlike any other I have ever read. It was interesting from chapter one and kept me smiling all the way to the last chapter. Zaire had moments when he tested my patience, but I knew if I just waited him out, he’d grow on me. In the end, I adored Zaire and Ashley.

Sweet sweet sweet

Plot: Single POV (Ashley), arranged marriage, wrong brother, prophesy of saving a dying magical race, and magically conceived babies
Feels: Gah! When Ashley finds out what “Rohi” really means! And Zaire’s puns...so cute! Ultimately, a sweet, feel-good, fluffy story (a departure from K.L. Hiers’ norm).
Drama: A little bit when Ashley learns more about Zamir’s circumstance
Heat: 3/5
Characters: It was hard to love Zaire at the beginning, especially after finding out his motivations, but he does redeem himself. I would have loved dual POV to have more insight into Zaire...probably would have been angsty too! I thought Zamir was a tool. Love their very wise mom, though!
Pacing: Good flow
Length:Quick read
Ending: HEA x 3!

I really like it when a book jumps right into the story, straight off the bat, as this book does. It’s my favorite way to start a story.

This was a lighthearted, easy read, without much angst. It was kinda refreshing to take a break from angstier books, and this book was absolutely perfect for that. It wasn’t the deepest of storylines, but it was full of fluffy goodness and charm.

I enjoyed the flow of the story. It had likable characters, the perfect amount of conflict, and was just easy to read. It was like taking a breath of fresh air.

This is book one in the series, and I would be happy to see what’s in store next.

Ok, I'd read this story just for the series title alone. Come on, Jinn and Tonic is fabulous! Fortunately, however, the story lived up to that wordplay for me. If you enjoy the light, farcical plays where all the wrong lovers are getting thrown together all the while having strong feelings for someone else you'll love this book. Ashley and Zaire clearly belong together but their road to coupledom is thwarted by the past deal made between Ashley's grandfather and a jinn. Accept that premise and settle back for a wonderful ride to see if our two princes Zaire and Zamir can get meet their royal obligations and still get their heart's desire and if Ashley gets the man of his dreams.

Wow, I loved this. The theme may have been a little trite- Carried off to be the mate of the king- but it was well done. The story itself was wonderful! It was sweet, but not sappily so; hurt, but not too much; and following duty resolutely, until a solution presents itself.
I love Zaire. He stole the show. He’s the prince that will never be king and has no real duties or restraint. His heart is locked in anger at what he lost. It takes a single, lost human to heal him.
I will definitely be reading the rest of this series!

Delightful in every way

Ashley has a problem. 25 years old and lonely and kind of miserable. Good friend, Daniel, forces him out of his apt and takes him to a bar/club to celebrate his birthday.
Enter big problem. Gorgeous, large, and mesmerizing Zaire. He sweeps Ashley off of his feet after one night.
Ashley awakes to problem number two!
How Ashley and Zaire tackle these problems is amusing and entertaining.
I haven't ever read a book about a jinn or genie and this paranormal romance was a great way to pop the genie cherry.

This book literally started with a bang. Once I dedicated time to read this book, I dive right into the story. It was straightforward, start to finish. There was no unnecessary evil aspect. It was a bit angsty with the whole I'm engaged to my lover's brother. There was definitely a fairytale vibe to this story—the no other way to explain a strong immediate connection with little effort. It a solid insta love story with a bit of magic.
