Brides of Karadok #5

An Inconvenient Vow

Rate this book
Never did Sabina Burrell imagine that foiling a plot against her sister would lead to her having to wed the arrogant Sir Jeffree de Crecy!  She has never met such a loathsome man, and that included her late, unlamented husband!

Sir Jeffree, raised in the expectation of succeeding to his uncle’s title, is appalled to become ensnared in a scheme to discredit his uncle’s new bride.  The whole thing is beneath his dignity, as is the shameless young widow who denounces him in front of everyone and makes him look a fool!

Jeffree will do anything to salvage his honor, even if it means wedding a woman he despises.  Revenge will be sweet indeed, ensuring Sabina pays for what she did.  What he does not anticipate, is that his own long-prized vow of chastity will be so very sorely tried…

Confession Time: I love idiot heroes!

Give me a himbo, an awkward grouch, a clueless moron and pair him with a capable, strong woman and I am here for it. Make him a virgin? *chef’s kiss*

Jeffree DeCressy was such an idiot. He was so awkward and clueless, but hid that behind arrogance and grouchiness. It was endearing af. He is one of the first heroes in this series where his growth overshadowed his lady’s. His growth ‘in the sheets’ (as he calls it) was particularly good as this is also Coldbreath’s first virgin hero.

Other than that though, this book was quite similar to the rest of the series; with a marriage of convenience (the only trope Coldbreath writes), a knight hero who competes in Touneys, a strong heroine who’s assertive and takes no crap and a cleaning or renovation of a house or castle.

These books are good but they kind of blend together now and I found myself drifting in and out of the audio a bit. I still love this author’s writing style and humour and her awkward sex scenes. I can do without the stupid Queen and court stuff though.

Overall a good read and a great couple.

Reread- May 2023- As part of my tradition I reread an old fav of mine by Miss Coldbreath evertime she is about to release a new book.
---------------------‐-------------------------
4🌟 (Marriage of convenience, Medieval setting, hate to love, Handsome virgin H, plain-jane widow h)

This is probably the 8th Marriage of Convenience HR by Alice Coldbreart and other than one disappointment, I have loved all of them. I wouldn't even mind reading 20+ more MOC stories set during the same medieval period by her.
Reason-She is a pro in writing the tiniest tidbit of life during the times and her MOC plots keep evolving with every new book.

But, still, I would like to mention a few things that I liked most about this one.

1. In the past all her heroes are grumpy, confident alpha males who end up becoming possessive and sweetest towards h in the end. But, Sir Jeffree Decrecy(H) is the antithesis. Yes, he is uptight and prickly but being a 28-year-old virgin also makes him an awkward, self-centred prude. Yet, his resolve to dislike Sabina broke faster than her.

2. Most of the time AC writes smart but sweet heroines. But, Sabina(h) is the farthest you can go from a sweet h. She is a widow who has suffered a lot in her previous marriage. So, she is not ready to give Jeffree any chance to repeat the same with her.
And, damn her conversation skills need as much work as Jeffree.

3. Hands down, this is the funniest book by the author. The Marriage scene is great. But, the best things come after marriage. Again, the hate to love to trope mingled with their banter(actually mini duals🤣🤣) are legendary.

"If I am satisfied, madam, then I fail to see why you have reason to complain!”
Sabina gasped. “You pig!” she fumed. “You know how I hate it when you call me madam!”
He gave a short laugh. “How fortunate that I do not mind your dubious manner of addressing me.”
“Unspeakable toad!” Sabina added with feeling.
🤭🤭

4. The relationship development is super slow, but the good thing is, we get to see the slow progress one step at a time. As, both Jeffery and Sabina are proud and arrogant, they never fail to entertain us with their fighting.

"Perhaps with time, you might find some outward expression of your love that did not involve your penis?” she suggested tartly.🤣🤣

5. Again, it's a long book(around 500 pages) but it doesn't feel long. As usual, the side characters are well written.

6. And, well!! we can always trust Miss Coldbreath to write great steamy scenes. This one though is slightly different because of a widow h and virgin hero.

Although it's the 5th book in the series, this one can completely be read as a standalone.

You are a disgusting, selfish, arrogant, pompous, loathsome toad.” Sabina punctuated each failing with a kiss to his lips.

Sassy, fun and a complete delight to read, An Inconvenient Vow manages to have the vibes of the old classic romances without losing the modern writing.

“You accept then?” He asked gruffly. “My love?”
When she opened her mouth, he threw up his hand. “Do not make your reply. I already know I will not like whatever words tremble on those lips.”

Jeffrey is the arrogant, handsome and straightforward heir of a Duke, but he is never too proud to apologize for his faults. He had vowed at eighteen not to bed any woman -kissing included-, which made him adorably innocent. Until he meets someone who will make him want to break all his vows.

“What is it?” Sabina asked with surprise.
“You are undressing,” he said stiffly, hot color suffusing his face.
Sabina's jaw almost dropped. “I have only removed my headdress.”

“I want to…”Jeffree’s words were gruff, his eyes studiously avoiding hers. “I want to touch your hair. Can I?”

Sabina is not afraid of saying exactly what she thinks. She is also not afraid of losing all her respectability in order to save her sister from a scandal. Only that she didn’t expect Jeffrey to be a gentleman and marry her to save them both.

“I am sure your family congratulated you on losing such a shrewish wife so quickly. That is quite a feat. It took my first husband a twelvemonth to do so.”
Jeffree bristled. “I did not lose you. You ran off.”

If you love sassy dialogues between two soulmates that are too busy arguing to realize they are perfect for each other, look no further: Sabina and Jeffrey won’t disappoint. Sabina was so funny, Jeffrey so correct and blunt. I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed banter so much.

“You pig!” Sabina fumed. “You know how I hate it when you call me madam!”
Jeffree have a short laugh. “How fortunate that I do not mind your own dubious manner of addressing me.”
“Loathsome wretch!”
“Never at a loss of words, are you?” he murmured, and for one astonishing moment, she thought he was about to smile. “I did not know what my tastes ran to,” he said suddenly in a low, gravelly voice that robbed Sabina of all breath again. “Not until I met you.”

There is also groveling, because Sabina can’t believe Jeffrey has feelings for her and he would do whatever it takes to show her. I also found it endearing that he was angry at himself for not remembering the first time they met.

“You must have been unaccustomedly well-behaved that day,” he said sounding vaguely accusatory, “else I would have notice you, to be sure. () You are not a woman to be overlooked.”

The only thing I would change is that the first part was a bit slow, and there were some scenes with secondary characters that I didn’t find as enchanting. Maybe because I wanted to read their banter all day long.

“Did we meet?” Sabina asked.
“We did, madam,” Hugo answered stiffly.
“Don’t call her that,” Jeffree shot back. “Only I call her madam.”
Hugo blinked. “Er… my lady.”

Overall, An Inconvenient Vow is a HR with marriage of convenience, perfect for lovers of banters, arrogant yet innocent heroes and blunt heroines.

“You have me. I am the only man you have need of.”

Initial impression: SO GOOD! So, so sweet. I loved Jeffree and Sabina - Alice Coldbreath does it again, breathing new life into tried-and-true H+h archetypes, updating storylines with modern psychology, while still keeping things feeling medieval. I love explicit smut but nothing beats the squirmy feeling or the heavy heart feeling of a well-delivered line in a historical romance.

I ate Jeffree up!! He is a snack. I love how head over heels he was, and so unabashed about it! 😌

I was so intrigued by Jeffree and Sabine when they were mentioned in the previous book. In fact, in some scenes I was more interested in what was going on with them! With this book, you don't get a deeper rehash of the scenes that transpired in the previous book, and I'm glad. Sometimes I get bored when I have to read the same scene but now rehashed from a different POV or expanded out, so it was great that the book was not focused on that, or even tournaments at all.

I would read 20 more books set in the Karadok kingdom 🥺👉🏼👈🏼

2/18/22 Update: 502 pages? Thank you Alice Coldbreath! Weekend reading is looking up.

2/9/22 Update: COMING OUT IN LESS THAN A WEEK!!!

I can’t wait for this one! 🥳🥳🥳

I have a love/hate relationship with this book. I am an Alice Coldbreath fangirl and I have loved everything she has written. This book is no exception but....but...

The H/h are forced to marry when a scheme to discredit Sabina's younger sister forces her to speak up and take the blame. This involves the H Jeffree, so he demands they marry to salvage his honor. If you've read the other books, you know that Jeffree is an insufferable prig. Sabina doesn't have the highest opinion of him and she feels beneath him due to her station (even though she was raised a gentlewoman) and the fact that she is a widow who was estranged from her husband when he died.

This is all a wonderful start to a great story. Except I had a hard time liking and relating to Sabina. There is way too much time spent inside the character's heads with internal dialogue that went in circles. From one chapter to the next, they'd go over the same tired arguments in their minds over and over. And over. The book gives us the H's POV so we get to see what his thought process is and why he is the way he is. I really liked him. Yet the h just cannot get over the fact that he is the Duke's heir and she is just a nobody. Her first husband was an awful man who cheated openly and she has a hard time trusting. I just wanted to whack her over the head with a 2X4. Jeffree took a vow of celibacy over a decade ago and he never once did anything that even hinted at breaking that vow. If that isn't a man of honor that a woman can trust then I just don't know what to tell you Sabina! They would get along great, be so sweet together, and the next paragraph they were fighting again.

Worst of all, Sabina had a case of reverse-snobbery that was so frustrating! She refused to get new clothes (despite the fact that people kept mistaking her for a servant), and then would get angry when people judged her for her shabby clothes. Jefree just could not catch a break. He tried so hard and did everything she asked, only to have her tell him she didn't want that after all. He was tied up in knots over her and she treated him so badly because *insecurities*. Ugh! Get over yourself.

The book was too long IMO. There was too much internal dialogue, too much repetitive plot, an unnecessary side plot involving the sister and the cousin that could have been left out completely.

I know I have ranted a lot in this review. There were so many sweet moments interspersed with frustration. AC writes great sex scenes and this book was no exception. Jeffree may be buttoned up to the outside world, but he is a freak in the sheets lol! When I closed the book, I really did love Jeffree and Sabina together. Sabina had a loooong road to becoming the woman who could love and be loved. I didn't enjoy part of that journey, but there was enough sweet to counteract the bitter. The last several chapters of the book more than made up for everything that came before and the book ended in a very satisfying way. 3 stars because taken all together, I liked the book despite its faults.

5 stars. Holy shit, I didn’t expect this book to be as good as it was. I very rarely rate books at 5 stars, but there is really nothing that I can take issue with or that I didn’t like.

Somehow the preview of this couple in previous books just seemed disappointing and I definitely went into this expecting it to be mediocre. I’m so happy to say that I was wrong - this has turned out to be one of my favorites by Alice Coldbreath.

I’m not going to leave a long review - just read the book if you’re a fan of this author. It really didn’t disappoint.

Safe; virgin hero, heroine was married and widowed but was only with her late husband for a short bit before she realized he was a cheater and then refused to be with him again. The heroine stays celibate until the hero. Hero has made a vow of celibacy which is why he is still a virgin. There is some slight OW drama caused by misunderstanding and jealousy, but nothing serious.

Re-read on 27/2/24:
I've decided to elevate my rating to 4 stars. Upon revisiting some of AC's books, I've come to appreciate them more, and this one stands out in particular. Sabina's character, as a widow, and Jeffrey as a virgin hero offer a refreshing departure from her typical heroines and heroes. Initially, I found the love declaration a bit cringe-worthy on my first read, but upon revisiting it, I found it surprisingly endearing—perhaps my perspective was influenced by a surge of emotions (hormones, my friends, hormones). I'm eagerly anticipating the next installment, although its publication has been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. I learned from the author's newsletter that she fell ill and was hospitalized, but I hope she's on the path to recovery now. and we'll be getting a new book from her soon.

3.5 stars.

This was a cute read. It's not that I don't like it, it's just that I thought it could be better. The ending was very cringe-worthy to me (the words of love professed by Jeffree to Sabina - I just couldn't get down with it). This book was supposed to be a fantasy medieval setting but every time Ganford Chase or Morecotte were mentioned, I kept imagining a cottage or a mansion during the Regency time. It probably has something to do with the way these places were written.

The beginning was funny though, I'd give you that.

I must say that in this awful and awfully long period, I just love books full of humour and this one is just perfect!

I enjoyed Sabina and Jeffree a lot! Tehy're so funny together!

I loved how humour was included even in the most intimate moments (I mean the smexy times!)! It's so rare to find!

It was also interesting to see how Jeffree saw Sabina and how she saw him - one judges the other for the opposite they want to say and do for the other! Great!

I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

I’m so conflicted.
I was so ready to give this a 5 star when I finally got to the scene where they were going to consummate the marriage. Jeffree being a virgin in all ways, including kissing, his learning of intimacy and his reaction were all amazing! I LOVED those parts.

I didn’t care for the reason that was chosen for him to be a virgin and it was just annoying me but it made for a pretty nice scene of how he broke his vow, that part I approved.

Now, I loved Jeffree. I’m not going to start tossing out terms but he definitely seemed like an atypical character with how he didn’t really comprehend subtle stuff and did better with straight forwardedness.

Jeffree ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

. . . .
Now Sabina? I hated her. 🙈
To me, she was so hot / cold I wanted to slap her.
There were so many times where I thought that they were finally on the right path to being a good couple and then it would just go to shit. It started to feel like a toxic relationship 😭

I remember reading AC prizefighter series and I really enjoyed those but this one just didn’t work for me. I’m sure I would’ve enjoyed it if I felt the growing connection and love between the MCs but I didn’t really feel anything from Sabina’s side, maybe cos I hated her 👀

Anyway.
I’d like to start a petition to get some more virgin MMCs out there into circulation. Even better if it’s dual virgins. Give the people what we want !

On a side note: I stayed up way too late to finish this and even the ending left a lot to be desired. Hmph. ☹️

Edit: I’m giving this a 3 because I finished it and I loved Jeffree and his little brothers. I even liked his mom and step father.

And the MF keep on coming, I actually switched between MM and MF, but I'm reviewing them all together by gender apparently. 🤣🤣🤣

Anyways, I looooved this, until 60% or so, hear my rant:

The beginning? Amazing, we started with a strong character, a widow and in those times imagine that! But she was proud, she stood for her family, she was fierce.

Then the marriage happened and I loved how it developed in those firts 54%, anger became contempt, that became respect, then understanding, then lust, then love?

And that's where it lost me, I feel the author tried to give a bite of other couples in future books and that made the love be cut short, the lovely development I was seeing and the banter, Jesus take the wheel of my ovaries, the banter, stopped because of that, wich was disappointing.

I do want to say that this autor can write and I loved how our virginal heroe discovered his Sexual prowess and how our leading lady helped him through it.

This book is worth it just because of that. 🥰🥰🥰🥰

He felt the strange conviction that, if she would only turn her eyes upon him favorably, he could bask content in them all day.  That was what would satisfy him, he realized in astonishment, and that alone.

Absolutely loved this one! In fact, I think it will be one of my favorites in the series. The inner monologues and banter between these two fantastic characters was just brilliant. She could not have written Jeffree de Crecy's character more true to form. I just LOVED him! This was a perfect story for him. It does help to read these books in order though, that way you get the full preview to each character as they are presented. I am really looking forward to more books from this author.

Alice Coldbreath writes the BEST historical romances! The worlds she creates really just draws me in, and I have yet to find another author who can write historical better than she does!

The H in this one is one of my favorite of her hero’s. Jeffree was just so… I don’t even know how to describe him but I just loved him. I wasn’t sure how I was going to like him based on what I read about him in other books, but needless to say he exceeded my expectations!

What an enjoyable book, so many funny bits to this book that I ended up with 10 highlights!
Some of my favorite tropes all together in 1 story. 4.5 stars

-Grumpy hero of honor
-Witty dialogue between 2 MC's with super honesty, nothing to hide from each other
-Marriage of convenience or 2 strangers thrown together to make a go of it
-Virgin hero, heroine is a widow
And not sure if this a trope?-Open attitude to making the bedsheets burn, he's an eager student :)

This was a great take on a sticky situation, to be labelled a "wanton" in those days carried severe emotional and physical penalties and people didn't really stop to make sure you were either innocent or guilty. They rushed to guilt.

I really enjoyed getting inside Jeffree's head, the utter naivete and ignorance about women and life and his VOW- too funny. "He had to own he was a little rash" -what a typical male response- what an understatement!
"His course determined, Jeffree cheered up considerably. There would be no more of this tiptoeing around, this trying to curry favor with his own wife. He would simply tell her the way things would be between them going forward."
Bahahaha- so naïve.

Thankfully Sabina was up for the challenge:
"Sabina opened her mouth. “Sir Jeffree, I—”
“And that is all I have to say on the matter,” he cut across her, turning his back as he made for the door, flinging it open and exiting abruptly.
“Whereas I still have SEVERAL more things to say!” Sabina called after his retreating form."

Hilarious. I am pretty sure I have yelled that exact phrase at my DH at some point...

And Jeffree turned out to be an exceptional lover once he let loose :) He declared his feelings to her first and he got super embarrassed every morning due to his passionate words the night before in the bedroom. Not his actions of course, just what he SAID embarrassed him :)

I can't say I warmed up to Isemay, her sister, but her plan for vengeance sets up the next story quite well.

The ending at Court was a little farfetched. I loved how he wanted to know how to hold her regard if he wasn't showing his strength thru the tournaments- what honesty. And she was able to ask him what she was supposed to do to hold HIS regard. Very well written.

Finally- at the end- “You have the most perfect bosom in Karadok,” he murmured. Sabina tangled her fingers in his hair.
“Do you really think so? You are getting very good at the talking,” she marveled."

3.5 stars. I liked the romance between Jeffree and Sabina. The gradual growth in Jeffree was nice to see after his dry and loveless upbringing. Sabina truly brought him out of himself.

It took quite a while for Sabina to realise her own feelings, in fact a bit too long. Although I enjoyed the read overall, this was my problem with the book - for me it was too long. About 3/4 through, the business with was a little confusing and seemed to just drag on. I admit I did a little bit of skimming here. The epilogue with

I'm still on the fence about the setting of this series. I find it hard to fully get into the zone of this pseudo-medieval world. I guess it does give the writer certain freedoms, but for me personally I would prefer it be set in the real world in medieval times, still with made up characters, but with real places and customs.

So yeah - a decent read, but too long and would have been more enjoyable for me if a couple of sections got the chop.

My kindle edition has a very nice cover, with (presumably) Sabina in a lovely deep red dress. Nice.

3.75 stars for Sabina and Jeffree!

This book was amazing for the first third, sadly it drove me mad for the middle part, and most of the time I just wanted to smash those stubborn heads together! Their miscommunications is terribly silly 🙄. However, the story is still pull me in, Alice always give us an unexpected characters in her books and it does made an interesting reading. Yup! Despite their silliness, I couldn’t stop reading these two bonkers, together! 🙄😂🤣.

I just hope though, Sabina’s sister, Isemay and her situation will get more pages, because is sounds unbelievable and ridiculously funny 😜😂🤣. But it’s good to see how her story ended, too 😜.

I waited as long as possible to read An Inconvenient Vow because of Sabina and I was right…I detested her. A stuck-up virgin male and a bitter widow does not make a compelling romance story.

Sabina almost ruins the entire Karadok series for me because she is such a mean-spirited, bitter shrew….and a liar to boot.

The heroine is usually why I dislike a book and Sabina is the prime example of a horrible heroine I would run over with my truck if she was a real person.

IRL, I hate people who want to punish a current partner for a previous partner’s bad behavior (cheating, violence, etc.) Sabina just wanted to emasculate and make Jefferee pay for the cheating ex-husband.

This so-called hero, Sir Jefferee, was such a stuck up prig who falls into slavering worship for the dominatrix widow he loses his virginity to; otherwise, there is no reason for him to debase himself for such an undeserving, unlovable banshee.

Please, dear lord, I hope there will be no book for Sabina’s dumb, prideful sister. Her stubbornness played right into the hands of the conspirators. I hope the next book will have better, likable characters.

This is the highest rated book in this series and so I went in with high expectations, perhaps too high. It was very enjoyable, but the beginning was better than the end, and I blame Sabina. While Sir Jeffree desperately needed to be schooled on how to treat people (and did he ever really learn?), Sabina desperately needed to get unstuck from the past. She also was good at finding fault with others and overlooking those same faults in herself: Sir Jeffree was haughty and arrogant. So was she. Sir Jeffree acted childish? So did she. Sir Jeffree didn’t know what love was? Neither did she. At least he was trying to figure it out. She just wanted to run and hide, deny, and feel unworthy—in spite of all evidence to the contrary! That’s it, that’s the perfect word to describe her: contrary. And it got a little old.

Favorite part: the scene where Jeffree abandoned the need to get Meliora’s permission to break his vow.
Least favorite part: the unnecessary and baffling court scene at the end. Yes, it was to make a point. The point didn’t need to be made.

Truly, Jefree and Sabina’s story is weird and fabulous, all in one.

I had to stop reading Ms Coldbreaths books a while ago because I was devouring them and wanted them to last me a little bit longer, but I needed a book that I knew was going to be good and this was the obvious choice.

So well written, such quirky characters, but I found it dragged at some points. It read a little like Pride and prejudice medieval version but soon it evolved into something else completely. It was such a good experience reading this.

i maintain that the main couple in this did not like each other!!!!!!!!! what do you mean you spend like 60% of the book arguing, with zero conflict resolution skills learned or demonstrated, only to suddenly drop a love confession out of nowhere???? one of my least favorite alice coldbreaths, which sucks because i actually LOVED the marriage of convenience set-up and the fmc here. 2.5/5.

Yay! Another Alice Coldbreath book! And it's 500 pages long! *heart eyes*

I was a little disappointed in the last book in the series (Her Bridegroom, Bought and Paid For, Aimee and Lord Kentigern's book) because I never felt like I got to "know" Lord Kentigern. This book, however, was exactly what I expected from a Coldbreath book, and I was not disappointed!

One of the things I love most about Alice Coldbreath's books is the fact that she can write the male lead as a complete and utter dick, either in the beginning of his own book or in books prior to his book, and yet she still makes me love them by the end of his book because you can see the reasons behind his actions. She has done it over and over again for me (Mason, Roland, Garman, to name some of them), and she did it again with this book.

Jeffree de Crecy comes across as an arrogant, entitled jerk in the books prior to this one, as well as in the beginning of this book. I did NOT think that I would ever grow to like him...but as we began to see who he truly was and why he acted the way he did, my opinion of him totally changed, to the point that I was rooting for him and Sabina by the middle of the book. When I read about him pitching a fit in the previous book, I thought he was an absolute tool. When it happened in this book? I thought it was kind of funny, too (much as Sabina did).

And Sabina is perfect. I loved her as a heroine! She isn't the typical Alice Coldbreath heroine; she's more feisty than many of them, and she's not very sweet at all. SHE is the one who needs more convincing to love Jeffree than the opposite way around, and I loved that.

Sabina and Jeffree's story was also different because usually the heroine is a sheltered virgin and the hero is worldly and experienced (this is not ALWAYS the case, such as Fenella's story, but she was still pretty sheltered and I don't believe she had ever had an orgasm before). Sabina is a widow who knows her way around her body (although Jeffree makes her feel things she hasn't felt before, for sure), and Jeffree took a vow of chastity at 18. He has never slept with a woman or even kissed one before. I don't know WHY I love the virgin hero trope so much (probably because it's so rare), but I LOVED IT here, especially since Jeffree was such a hothead. I loved that Sabina had to teach him. ;D

It's a slow, slow burn, but I liked it. The book is 500 pages long, but it didn't feel like it was dragging to me. I love the world of Karadok and loved the two main characters (Sabina I loved right away, Jeffree had to grow on me for a while), so I loved reading as much as i could about them.

I also adored the fact that

I also loved that Sabina didn't

If you love Alice Coldbreath's books, I think you'll love this one too. And if you haven't read her books yet - what are you waiting for? They're a treat. I can't wait for the next book in the series, and I hope there are dozens more to come! I really wish that the author would publish these in paper form, as well, because I would buy every single title so I could have a whole shelf dedicated to the world of Karadok. :D

This book was a breath of fresh air from the usual pairings of an older experienced husband and a meek virgin bride and I absolutely ATE. IT. UP! Of course, only Coldbreath could redeem the pompous ass that is Jeffree de Crecy. His character arc and development was so brilliantly done, I mean, how I could go from hating a character so much to loving them by the end...I can't say enough good things about this romance.

You know the trope grumpy/sunshine? This was like grumpy/even grumpier lol, but it worked so well!! Also, I go crazy for a romance where the MMC hates absolutely every living person alive EXCEPT for the FMC...it was like she read my mind when she wrote this book! Not to mention the pining, our heroine (Sabina) teaching the hero how to kiss or when Jeffree himself makes a humbling confession of utter devotion and love in front of the entire winter court!!

The dialogue was delectable and the overall pacing of the story was steady. I didn't feel like de Crecy's realization of his feelings felt rushed at all. The sex scenes were obviously delicious; Coldbreath just has the magic touch when balancing sexy and tender moments. I won't ruin anything by going into too many details but the role playing trysts they come up with are so cute and sexy. Their chemistry is just phenomenal...I can't get over it.

One more thing, is it just me or is the Queen getting more annoying with each book? Can she just mind her business now? Or does she have something planned?? With that weirdly invasive and personal tapestry she's having made.....

Sabina and Jeffree are forced to marry in order to save their reputations, and they both, at least partly, blame each other for the predicament that they find themselves in. I loved watching them get together and it turned out really sweet.

Jeffree is a weird mix of arrogant, rude, hotheaded, awkward, and sweet. He's one of the strangest characters that I have ever read about, but somehow it works. Sabina was previously married to a habitual cheater who didn't value her, and her outlook has been shaped by her bad experiences. She's a tough woman who isn't afraid to speak her mind and stand toe to toe with Jeffree.

An Inconvenient Vow is book 5 in the Brides of Karadok series. Since I really enjoy this author's books, I'm going to keep this review short. While I enjoyed a lot of the story, unfortunately it was too long and boring that I lost interest and had to force myself to finish. Also, all 3 stars are for Sir Jeffree. He was a fantastic H and even when he was arrogant, I loved him which was most of the book. I liked Sabina in the beginning, but her stubborn ways and her inner dialogue was exhausting. Overall, this wasn't a new favorite, but I do look forward to more books from this author.

I’ve absolutely enjoyed every page of this book. Jeffree and Sabina had such a great chemistry.

One of my favorites of the series along with Roland story and Lenora’s and of course Mason’s.
The wit, humor, great dialogue, and outrageous situations that Ms Coldbreath writes so well are all here.

This books has strrong links to previous books, so it's important to read in order. The h has little idea how to behave at court and the H has no social skills or any interest either. Then he meets the h and falls into lust/love/angst with her. They have a kinky dynamic and it's a great read.
