Retired solicitor Ted Crawford has the ideal life. He surfs, takes care of local turtle hatching and is becoming well known locally as a landscape artist. But his calm existence is upended by the sudden appearance of his son whose professional life is in jeopardy.

Happy in their single lives, neither Grace nor Ted is looking for love, but when their paths keep crossing, it looks as if fate has other ideas. However, as their friendship evolves into something more, family issues threaten to derail any hope of a new relationship. Is a second chance at love going to be torn from their grasp?

After her husband Russ’ death two years prior, Grace Winter knew it was time to sell Brigadoon and move from Granite Springs. She’d decided on Bellbird Bay as her sister and brother-in-law lived there, and as a family, they’d enjoyed visiting when the children were younger. Now, with her three adult children off her hands, and Brigadoon too much for her, the decision was made. But her daughters, Lou and Mel, weren’t impressed with her decision, although Ben, her youngest, was in her corner. Settling into Bellbird Bay, Grace knew her decision had been the right one, if only the girls would come round.

Ted Crawford had recently returned to Bellbird Bay, his old stomping ground. In his younger days, he’d been a successful surfer, now he dabbled in painting landscapes, some surfing and relishing the peace and quiet after the fast pace of the city. When Grace and Ted crossed paths a few times, they enjoyed coffee and conversation. Though neither of them was looking for a relationship, a close friendship formed. With rumblings of troubles in both Grace and Ted’s families, the future looked uncertain. What would be the outcome for these sixty-something friends?

Coming Home to Bellbird Bay is the 2nd in the Bellbird Bay series by Aussie author Maggie Christensen and once again, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I know whenever I pick up one of Maggie’s books, I’ll have a satisfying read – she’s an author I can go to when I need a good book. Bellbird Bay is a fictional town in Queensland, up the coast from Brisbane, and I would love to visit. Peaceful, quiet (apart from tourist season) and breathtakingly beautiful, there are plenty of seaside towns in Queensland which would suffice. Highly recommended.

With thanks to the author for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

When Grace Winter announced that she was selling up and moving to Bellbird Bay she wasn’t expecting her children especially her daughters to be so against it, her son was more understanding.

It had been a while since her husband had passed away and Grace decided it was time to move on and make a life of her own, but trying to get support from her daughters would not be easy. But in her heart, Grace knew this was the right thing to do for herself and her children were going to have to come to terms with it and hopefully in time they would understand.

Coming Home to Bellbird Bay is the second book in the Bellbird Bay series by Aussie author Maggie Christensen. This is another delightful read and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Recommended.

This is the second book in Maggie Christensen’s new series and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I am loving Bellbird Bay and the characters we are getting to know, the setting is lovely, I do love being by the ocean, Maggie Christensen knows how to bring her characters to life on the pages and make them friends, I do hope you come along as we meet Grace and Ted.

Grace Winters lost her husband two years ago and the property is getting a bit much for her she does love living in Granite Springs but it is time for a move and Bellbird Bay is such a lovely spot and her sister lives there as well. Grace settles in a lovely cottage on the beach sadly two of her children are not happy with the move at all but Grace is determined to make a new life for herself.

Ted Crawford has retired and has moved back to Bellbird Bay the place he grew up he is loving being able to surf again and he has taken up his landscape painting and doing well, he has a son Arron and a grandson but when Aaron arrives and has problems Ted’s quiet life is turning a little hectic.

Grace and Ted meet at a dinner but their first meeting is not really good, it is when they meet at the beach a couple of weeks later that they both realise that they are attracted to each other, something that neither of them thought would happen again. But life doesn’t run smoothly when their children throw curve balls into their relationship and it takes time before they finally find the love they both deserve.

Another lovely story from Maggie Christensen, heart-warming and filled with lots of emotion, one that had me turning the pages as Grace and Ted had a very up and down journey to their HEA, a HEA that neither really expected, I loved the setting and am looking forward to the next one in this series. I do highly recommend this one especially if you enjoy an older couple.

My thanks to the author for my copy to read and review.

Maggie Christensen is an amazing author and I always enjoy reading her books. Coming Home to Bellbird Bay is my new favourite one! Much to the disapproval of her grown daughters, two years after the death of her husband, Grace Winter sells her property in Granite Springs and moves to Bellbird Bay to be near her only sister.

Maggie Christensen's exquisite writing whisked me away to the small fictional Australian coastal town. Her vivid descriptions, well developed plot and dialogue and interactions between characters kept me interested and wanting to read more.

I highly recommend this heart-warming story of families, friends, and how a second chance at love can happen when you least expect it.
Special thanks to Maggie Christensen for writing this book and gifting me with an advanced digital copy to read and write an unbiased review.

Thank you Maggie for sending us a copy to read and review.
I returned to Bellbird Bay this week and enjoyed the delights of the town and it’s inhabitants.
Newcomers and old time folk always make for an interesting read as the storylines can be endless.
Again the older characters have their moment to shine in the romance sphere.
Grace decides to sell up her acreage and leave the only place her adult children have known as home, the place where their father lived out his days.
The decision and announcement creating immediate turbulence among some of them.
Adult children can be as demanding as toddlers at times.
Ted is a local who is keen to see his son recover from a bitter divorce and reclaim some right to his grandson.
A child will always be that even when they are in their forties.
Love and romance can command a priority although parental love always ensures the kids are safe and happy.
Health scares, pregnancy and new love after divorce all confront the younger generation as they have to accept parents have a right to be happy.
A delightful series that is an easy read will whisk you away on the sea change and allow you to see what realistic reactions can be like and how family dynamics can play out.
This is the second in the series and some subtle references to the Granite Springs series are interwoven.

Coming Home to Bellbird Bay is the second novel in the BellBird Bay series written by Maggie Christensen.  I have been wanting to read Maggie's Granite Springs series for a while and when I saw her latest available to read and review for Beauty and Lace I jumped at the chance.

What a beautiful story - so heartfelt, I really enjoyed reading it.  Maggie's writing is so articulate and engaging.

Grace Winter a widower of two years makes the decision to move closer to her sister Dot at Bellbird Bay. Her beloved family's rural acreage home has become too much and she feels it is time to start living her life again.  Her children can not understand why she would want to sell the family home and move away but she knows it is time.  Grace settles into life by the sea but hopes her children will come around in time.

Ted Crawford is a retired solicitor who has also returned to Bellbird Bay where he grew up, he loves surfing and volunteering and is becoming known locally as a talented landscape artist.  He has spent most of his life as a widower raising his son alone when his wife passed away early.

Both are single and enjoying finding their way in Bellbird Bay when they are introduced by Dot, but both are not interested in being set up but Grace does catch Ted's eye.  Fate keeps them bumping into each other and a friendship forms but with both having issues with their children will they be able to make time for each other.

It is a story of family, friendship, companionship, and starting again.  I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading Maggie's other books.  Thank you to Beauty and Lace, Cala Publishing, and Maggie Christensen for the opportunity to read and review this book.

My kind of writer!

Grace, a widow whose husband passed away two years before but had been suffering from dementia prior, sells the family farm in Granite Springs and moves to Bellbird Bay where her sister Dot lives. She's currently working part time at the library and is writing her first children's book.

Ted, who was a surfing champ in his youth, is a retired attorney from the big city and has moved back to the Bay. Now he leisurely surfs, hones his skills in painting and is a volunteer with Turtle Care."

I really enjoy Maggie's books, especially the characters of a "mature" age. She truly writes great characters with everyday problems with whom the reader can either connect or empathize. Our families have had to deal with some of these situations, but at least in a romance novel this is a HEA and can take us away from the everyday stressors. I also enjoy the descriptions of Bellbird Bay and the peace it brings to the main characters of Grace and Ted - well, the peace it can bring when their grown children's lives get sorted! Coming Home to Bellbird Bay is a wonderful mature look at a second love in life which I heartily recommend!

I’ve recently finished reading this delightful story, Coming Home to Bellbird Bay. I was honoured to be chosen to read the book pre-release. Maggie Christensen writes books that are populated with older characters. Since I am older myself I related to all the characters and the events that were befalling them. I found either myself or friends depicted in many of the story lines and events. I just felt in sympathy to all the happenings in this Coming Home story. I also enjoyed revisiting some of the characters from the first book Summer in Bellbird Bay and to read about what had been happening in their lives. I encourage you to read both these books and I eagerly look forward to the next instalment about the life and people of Bellbird Bay. This new book Coming Home to Bellbird Bay will be released on May 12th and can be purchased through Amazon and others.

This is the second book in Maggie Christensen's Bellbird Bay series and it was good to read of some of the people we had met in the earlier book .
Grace Winter makes the decision to sell the family property in Granite Springs after the death of her husband and move to the small coastal town of Bellbird Bay, where her sister Dot is already living. Her three children all react differently but Grace soon settles into the small-town community and starts creating a new life for herself, getting a part time job at the library. When her daughter Mel turns up in the Bay, Grace welcomes her into her new home and helps her to deal with her issues.
At a dinner party at Dot's house Grace meets retired solicitor, Ted Crawford who has retired to the Bay .
As their friendship evolves, family issues threaten to derail any hope of a new relationship, once Ted's son Aaron also returns to live with his father .
The author creates strong, well rounded characters and it is heart warming to read her books which focus on second chances for love for older people .
I really enjoyed Coming Home to Bellbird Bay and found it an easy read which had me reading late into the night.
Thanks to the author I received an early e-copy to read and review and found it was a great way to experience life in Australia, the sun, sand and surf being great for the soul.

Despite the disapproval of her children, specifically her daughters, Grace, in her 60s, decides to sell here acreage in Granite springs to relocate to the seaside town of Bellbird Bay. This will bring her closer to her sister Dot, give her a property that is easier to manage and help her move on from the memories and reminders of her dearly departed husband Russ.
Finding her way in the new town, Grace attends a dinner arranged by Dot that was set to "introduce" her to some new people. Enter Ted, widower and also in his 60's, a friend of Dot's husband and local to the area. He too found the dinner a set up of Dot's and was not really keen to interact with nor meet the new "single" woman. A disaster in its own way, both Grace and Ted avoid the set up.
Easter and disappointment from her eldest child Lou shunning their family gathering, Grace is disappointed. Thankfully a resentful Mel and a supportive Ben come to see her new home. But the drama that follows was not all that Grace expected. Mel pregnant, Ben moving to a more local job, bumping into the man from the set up... Feelings she never thought possible again...
Romance, drama, challenges all in one place. This book holds well on its own but also follows on super well from the preceding book "Summer in Bellbird Bay" where some of the characters are introduced.
Thank you Beauty & Lace and Maggie Christensen for taking me back to the sunshine, surf and sand of Bellbird Bay and the enticing romance it brings... Perhaps I should move there too ;)

'Coming Home To Bellbird Bay', the second book in Maggie Christensen’s Bellbird Bay series, is aptly named. From the first word I felt my heart lift with the same joy I feel on arriving home after a long absence. It is her easy command of the deepest empathy with them which brings her loyal readers back every time to Maggie’s warm-hearted stories of true-to-life families and love the second time around.
Grace and Ted and their families are people we all recognise. Their problems are ones someone close to us has experienced. In no time I was totally immersed in this story, unable to tear myself away until, with a satisfied sigh, I turned the last page.
I was fortunate enough to be given an Advanced Reader Copy of 'Coming Home to Bellbird Bay' and it is my pleasure to recommend it to other readers.

I am priviledged to be a reviewer for Maggie’s books to give an honest opinion and review of her books. This is another superb read by Maggie.
We can always relate to all or some of the issues that the characters in Maggie’s books need to deal with and this book is no exception.
From the start of this book through to the end, you are immersed in the lives of the characters issues and the trials and tribulations they need to deal with.

I highly recommend Maggie’s books to anyone who wants to get involved in the characters of a good book.

Coming Home to Bellbird Bay is an enjoyable story in the mature romance sub genre. Very nice and realistic characters and plot. Sometimes the complications that one’s adult children bring home are quite the hindrance to romance. But we never stop being their parents, sacrificing and supporting them. I read an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.

Coming Home to Bellbird Bay.

Enjoyable reading, liked the way the story went, happens to nearly everyone when families grow up,they scatter a little, but happy ending.

I had been asked to read another book for a book club and it was hard going and then, I got “ Coming Home to Bellbird Bay” and I was delighted. I loved the picture Maggie painted of this fictional town in Queensland, the sea and sand, the amazing shops and restaurants, the beautiful houses and the characters who live there. It was a real joy to relax and read her latest book

The story follows Grace who moves to Bellbird Bay after the death of her husband. Her three children react in different ways and combine to make the story both interesting and varied and there are a number of twists. It would not be one of Maggie’s stories if a rather handsome older man did not appear on the scene and this book was no exception.

I really recommend this book, I loved it and will recommend it to my book club

I'd read some of the later books in this series before
And enjoyed them so wanted to read some more
What a wonderful series it continues to be
With family dramas and romances for all ages you'll see.

After supporting her husband until his demise
Their home was too big, she'd come to realise.
So time Grace Winter has decided to move to the Bay
Despite the protests and what her children have to say.

Ted Crawford grew up in the Bay and has now returned
He'd missed the surf and for his art he'd yearned.
He's settled, enjoying his solitary life
Until his son joins him, his life in strife!

Though happily single, not looking for romance
When these two keep meeting, should they give it a chance?
But their offspring's problems come home, too,
Making it hard to decide just what to do.

A beautiful setting with folks who you feel you know
Making you invested in just how things will go.
A story filled with family drama, secrets and romance,
A delightful read I highly recommend you also give a chance.

🌅👥Finding romance in spite of themselves😌

4.5🌟 stars
Ted and Grace, empty nesters and widowed, aren't really looking to be paired up by well-meaning friends. And yet.. The romance is slow-build in this story of two mature people finding each other and a new start in a laid back beachside Queensland town.

One of the features that make me come back to Maggie Christensen's novels time and again is their realism and emphasis on the complications that go with family and raising children. Both Ted and Grace worry about the direction of their adult children's lives and make accommodation in their own lives to protect and support them. Four children, two sons and two daughters, each with a different crisis, make this story as much about the importance of family as about the romance.

Recommended.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Living Your Future Plans
This book is the second in a series. They can be read in any order. The books share some characters and a special location. This episode is about a recent widow deciding to live the life she and her deceased husband had planned many years ago. Her children are not so sure about her plans. She finds out that 60 something is too young to be put on a shelf. It is a well-done story that captures the inner workings of pre-teens as well as seniors with precision. This author always presents an excellent story and this one will not disappoint.

Never too old for a new start
Two years ago Grace Winter lost her husband. Despite all the wonderful memories her house holds, it’s just a too big a place to keep on her own.
So even with her daughters protesting (and her son being all laid-back about it), she decides to move to Bellbird Bay, in a smalltown community also close to her own sister.
Grace easily adapt to her new life and makes new friends. And one of them is retired solicitor Ted Crawford. He enjoys his morning surfing, takes care of the local turtle hatching and enjoys spending time in landscaping.
Both Grace and Ted are happy with their single status, but as their paths seems to cross more and more, the closer they get.
That is, until Grace her daughter appears out of the blue with he own issues, and Ted’s son also needs his father more than ever.
As Grace and Ted were building a tender relationship, will it stand the interference of their children? Or are they too old to fall in love again?
Having read the previous part of this series, I grabbed the opportunity with both hands to read this next chapter! And even if the former main characters made a lovely appearance, this boko can be perfectly read as a standalone.
I immediately liked Grace, even if there is a rather big age gap between the both of us. She could be my mother, and I also felt very daughterly towards her.
It’s obvious from the start that she had a wonderful marriage and even if the last years were difficult, she looked after her husband with all the love and care in her heart.
But I also comprehended why she decided to move… the place was just too big to look after on her own, and having children with their own lives, it would be a waste to just stay there.
Grace also understood that memories aren’t only linked to a place or building, but we always carry them in our hearts, no matter where we are.
I loved to see how Grace opened up in Bellbird Bay. I am not saying that she was a wallflower in the past, but now she sees new opportunities in her life and she grasps them with both hands. I also admired her courage to make the move and make the change.
And while her two daughters may seem horrified by her choice, she still does whatever any mother would do. But she won’t allow her children to hold her back. She made a decision for her own and her daughters will have to learn to live with that. But I smiled at how Ben, her son, just wanted what made his mother happy.
Grace’s loving heart is again made crystal-clear when het youngest daughter Mel suddenly is on her doorstep with a bombshell of her own. While reprimanding Mel would have been easy, she also offers the comfort and help Mel needs.
And how can someone not like Ted? He has loved and lost, but that didn’t take his optimism away. The way he enjoys his surfing and life, is truly something to be jealous of. His first meeting with Grace was a set – up and he was not happy about it, but when he gets to know Grace better on his own terms, we start to see that extra spark again in his eyes, which was wonderful.
But also in his case, we see how loving and caring parents are. No matter how old his own son Aaron is and which problems he has, Ted will always be there to support his son and grandson. And even be worried about their happiness.
This was a wonderful book, showing how life and love just doesn’t stop once you have reached a certain age.
But also about how parents will always be worried about their children, no matter how old they get. And parents would do anything to provide assistance and help.
Grace shows us that even a temporary move is not a big ask whenever it involves helping out and Ted gives his support and advice to Aaron what to do with his own son, sweet and lovely Zack.
I truly enjoyed reading this book, giving me all the love I expected. The author managed to address several difficult issues, but also showing us with the love of a family nothing is insurmountable.
And that love can be found at any age, any circumstance and any place. And falling in love doesn’t mean that you forget about a lovely and wonderful past, but accepting that love comes in different shapes and forms.
