J.D.L. Rosell was swept away on a journey when he stepped foot outside his door and into The Hobbit. He hasn't stopped wandering since.

When he's not off on a quest, Rosell enjoys his newfound hobby of archery and older pastimes of hiking and landscape photography. Nothing to dislike, characters and worlds still impressive and a ending that didn’t blow me away, but was understandable. Again the while series was great!

The author has really hit their stride with this conclusion of the "Legend of Tai" series. Solid characters that you come to care about over the course of the series and lots of magic and mayhem to keep you turning the pages long after you should have stopped! Really enjoyed this set and will be waiting for the next adventure the author wants to take me on. I really like books that can show an arc for the characters and this did that well - I won't spoil it any more, but they are certainly worth picking up if you are a fan of fantasy that is well done and has good world building. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Book Review - A God’s Plea

Rating 9/10 ⭐️

When you’re in the 4th and final book of a series it difficult to review without providing spoilers, so I will keep this short.

I really enjoyed this book, definitely my favourite of the series. I had a great time reading this series overall.

For me, the lore, magic system, world building and character development have all stepped up a level in this book.

The world and characters are definitely the shining stars of this series. The world is rich and large in scale and you get to spend a lot of time in many of the key landmarks through this series 4 books.

The burning question always when going into a final book of a series is, “will the author land the ending?”.

In my opinion “yes”, I really liked the ending but you will have to read for yourself to find out if you liked it.

I definitely think this series deserves more attention, please check it out.

Tal, Garin and friends quest is coming to an end. Before they can accomplish their goal they most tackle all obstacles in their path. As with everything I have read of his, Rosell does an excellent job at keeping the reader interested. This book is a page turner just like the rest of the series. There is plenty of action and magic to please any fantasy adventure fan. I would have to say this in my opinion is the best book of the series. I found my self putting off daily tasks just so I could read it.

This story is filled with magic and mystical creatures. Magic is everywhere, available to those who knew how to source it and wield it.

This is “The Legend of Tal”, as you would expect from the title, the story recounts how Tal came to be legendary. Tal is one who wields sorcery, but also is skilled with a blade or any other handy weapon. His goal is to rid the world of the dark sorcery which is spreading. His companions make him even more of a force to be reckoned with. There is never ending action with an epilogue which draws the story to the conclusion you would hope for.

The End

I think it ridiculous to require a review to be no less than twenty words. There are times that a book can only be described in one or two words. This is that time. Fantastic!

An incredible conclusion to the series. Hoping to find some time to write up a more detailed review. But suffice it to say, Rosell has brought this epic story to a satisfactory end. This is a tale worth experiencing!

A God's Plea (Legend of Tal: Book 4) my eighth read from author J.D.L. Rosell. Well written & enjoyable. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

A God,s Plea

These books were unique inventive and riveting. The author caught my attention with the fascinating story he created. The books are full of adventure with magic sorcery dragons and hero’s but have a finer story woven through out. The real actions of women, men and life adorned in fantasy. Power verses corruption nobility and everything in between. Buckle up and get ready for a wild ride!

great ending

The plot line thickened and held throughout the whole book. It kept sitting on the edge of my seat. I was trying to figure it all out… and I was wrong. The characters were very well developed. You wanted the good guys to win. And to find their place in the world. I am very impressed. These were my first books by this author, but I will be reading more!!

The Legend of Tal series ends with Book 4, A God's Plea. We have Tal who has embraced his gifts, and Garin has also discovered his own, but gifts or not they must face the immortal sorcerer Yuldor for the Worldheart. But Yuldor has developed formidable defenses that these two and their companions may not be able to crash. Their journey takes them into the heart of their enemy's territory. And while Tal and Garin have enormous powers it appears that they may not survive. They must make sacrifices beyond what they have ever imagined. They are nearing the last battle. Will they survive? Will they be able to remake the world? God's Plea brings us to the remarkable end of our journey. I received this novel through bookfunnel. This is my true and honest review.

Tal and the rest of the company continues on their quest to try to bring peace to the lands. The trials and obstacles they have to overcome are a lot for them to incur. Many hard decisions will be made, and some lives may be lost but, no matter the cause they always have each other’s backs. This was a great and intense adventure sorry to see it come to an end. If you enjoy adventure and lots of different creatures, you will enjoy this series. Was hard to put down and a real page turner.

This series was really good. Book four wrapped up the story line just right in my opinion. There is definitely room for the author to expand on other story arcs if he wanted to. I highly recommend this book and series to anyone who wants an engaging read. The series is complete, so a great time to dive in... no waiting for the next book to be written.

It hurts me to say, but book four was a big disappointment for me.

This, the last (forth) book of the story Legend of Tal was a big disappointment, and surprisingly so.

The problems very several. The story of Tal and his companions is one of the best stories I have read, up to this last book. Exceptional telling of the story, so detailed that it was easy to visualize it all unfold, but, I strongly feel that in this last book the author got stuck in the details, the story dragged on. Not just the story dragged on, also the characters remained stagnant over the course of the full story.

Non ever seem to grow one way or the other, the sullen remain sullen, the rude remain rude, they just keep on doing what they have been doing from the start of the story. Nobody has grown or developed, they are still as they were at the beginning of the story, even though at least a year has past since its beginning. Most of us real people change, we improve or get worse, we change character, personalities and behaviors over the course of a year, some even change from day to day. That's learning. This problem was not noticeable in the first three books, at least I didn't feel like that was happening.

But not only do the characters remain the same, the story too is sitting in a rut. Sure the companions are traveling further, so the scenery does change that's not the problem, but the things that happen during this travel and day to day life is pretty much the same as in book one though three.... sorcery used, battles fought, interactions between characters, the battles themselves and the "regrets" that came with the killings, even the challenges, all are pretty much the same, the same 'heavy' storyline since book one. Isn't a legendary story progressive, exciting to the end?

And therein lays the problem for me, I lost interest and felt down and as stuck as the companions. I soon began to skim, then skip pages. I even stopped reading and began looking through my library for a lighter story for me to read in the hope that I could get back to reading this story to it's end. I felt so stuck in this story, the Legend of Tal, especially since I so thoroughly enjoyed reading the other three books. This author, (Rosell IS an author not just a writer!), had given me such a ride with his telling, it all was like watching a movie unfold on the biggest screen, so detailed, so vivid. Now I wondered did Rosell get lost in the details, stuck and unable to give us the ending as riveting as the beginning?

I don't know what happened, but for me it has been a big disappointment, a struggle to finish this last book. I needed to know how it ended, and I felt I owed that to myself. This has been one of the best written story I have read in a long time, I had to find a way to find out the ending. Well yes, I did skip pages and speed-read through much of what I did read picking up the gist. That's actually sad to say and do to such great work. Do I recommend book four of Legend of Tal? I don't know really and I don't want to give away the ending, that wouldn't be fare to an author I come to respect. I guess you will decide that for yourself.

Some interesting non-magic subplots, Minor sword, Magic overwhelms

I don’t mind some magic if it’s makes sense and has a logical place in storylines. Got vested in some interesting plot n subplots points….wish I hadn’t. After book1, rest of the series storyline and action was nothing but extremely wordy, repetitive magic. My bad.

Story background wasn’t well done, author providing backstory and characterizations with unnecessary minor and major mysteries throughout series. Wasn’t until late Book 3 where a small summary was presented and storyline was fully explained, understood. Only two characters somewhat developed and too many unlikable companions. Frustrating.

Don’t enjoy reading super, superhero’s accomplishing the impossible by pulling rabbits out of thin air — in this case, tons of magic that we, the reader, don’t know exists. Author insisting MC is ‘just a man’ because…that’s what the MC says, over n over again.

Typos, grammar and character mistakes were in all four books. The ending was awful, abrupt shortcut and left no doubt to me that there’s more coming.

If you like knock ‘em, sock em magic…you’d probably like.

This book is the fourth in the Legend of Tal series, and perhaps not surprisingly carries on where the third book left off. This book contains pretty much everything you could imagine in a fantasy, with a few things you cannot thrown into the mix.

You have elves, dragons, mages, dwarves, a magical paradise, imitation Gods, magical weapons, mass battles, and all sorts of strange creatures woven into a thrilling and gripping tale that kept me enthralled right to the end.

It is difficult to describe the story without dropping spoilers, so I am just going to recommend that you get the book and read it for yourself to find out what happens to Tal Harrenfel, Garin, and their friends. If you like fantasy, I cannot imagine any situation where you would not love it.

I count myself a fan and already own most of J.D.L. Rosell's output, but I did receive an advance copy of the book in order to allow me to proof the content and prepare this objective review. I honestly rate it at 5 stars and firmly believe that every single one of those is well deserved.

"A God's Plea," the riveting conclusion to "The Legend of Tal" series, delivers a satisfying finale that leaves readers yearning for more. As Tal and Garin, along with their companions, embark on their final quest to challenge the immortal sorcerer Yuldor for the Worldheart, the stakes are higher than ever.

The narrative unfolds with gripping intensity as the characters face formidable challenges and confront their ultimate foe in enemy territory. The author masterfully crafts a tale of sacrifice, redemption, and the enduring power of friendship, culminating in a climactic battle that will reshape the world.

While Tal's journey may come to a close, the promise of new adventures with beloved characters like Garin and Wren lingers, sparking excitement for what lies ahead. "A God's Plea" is a triumph of storytelling, offering a poignant and thrilling conclusion that will linger in the hearts of readers long after the final page is turned.

3.5 rounded up

An accomplished and solid conclusion to The series. With more magic, more creatures, and more peril, the author notches up the epic fantasy elements in this finale.

Overall, I enjoyed the series and would give it a solid 4 stars overall. Although I didn't connect with the characters on an emotional level, they definitely maintained my interest, particularly Tal who has been one the most intriguing protagonists.

The highlights for me are the world building, magic, and lore. The author has truly created a rich history and a vivid world, filled with magic and every fantasy creature and culture imaginable.

If you love epic fantasy that feels like the classics, then you will Tal.

A Legendary Book

I so enjoyed the Legend of Tal. There was so much good to make me want to come back for more. Excitement, fights, forgiveness, and plenty of humor made this a fast and great read. The characters, evil or good, were so well written that I seem to want the fights as well as the campfires to continue forever. I can’t wait to explore this author’s other books, and I hope you’ll take the time to read this tale%

The End of the Legend

We expected our Legend to make the ultimate sacrifice and yet, what is death?
A few unexpected twists in this series. Rosell tore down the legend he sought so hard to build as well as the basis for the cultures in the world he created.
I suppose it was a happy ending. What more could readers want?
