A classic Little Golden Book—with a summertime theme!
Nancy and Timmy hop out of their beds one summer morning and help pack their swimsuits and lunch. And then it's off to the seashore! In a charming rhyme, this Little Golden Book from 1951 (then titled A Day at the Beach ) describes what preschoolers will find there: "You can catch little crabs—if you're quick! You can draw great big pictures right on the beach with a piece of a shell or a stick." Oh, what fun!
From Kathryn and Byron Jackson, authors of the popular Little Golden Book The Saggy Baggy Elephant, and Corinne Malvern, illustrator of the Little Golden Books Doctor Dan the Bandage Man and Nurse Nancy.
Kathryn Jackson wrote hundreds of lively, witty stories for Golden Books, most of which were coauthored with her husband, Byron. The Saggy Baggy Elephant is one of the pair’s most famous titles. Golden Books that Kathryn Jackson wrote on her own include Tawny Scrawny Lion, Nurse Nancy, Pantaloon, Richard Scarry’s The Animals’ Merry Christmas, and Richard Scarry’s A Story a Day: 365 Stories and Rhymes.
I almost didn't buy this book. So glad I did. My son just loves it! He pretends he is at the beach and is the little boy in the book. So cute. I just love the illustrations, they transport you to a world when times were simpler.
Almost all of these Golden Books are dated. It’s almost like people didn’t know how to write for children in the 50s. This one is strange because it seems to have rhyme and rhythm but then it randomly abandons it.
A very cute book to enjoy with your little ones. This book is about two little kids who are brother and sister and they go on a family trip to the beach and they bring their dog. They are explaining everything you can do at the beach like they are talking to their dog. I enjoyed reading this book because it brought back so many memories of going to the beach with my family. What is also great about this book are the illustrations. They are very precise and detailed and match up with the story perfectly. They tell the story even if there were no words with it.
Brother and sister spend the day at the beach with their dog. They have fun swimming, collecting shells, racing, and playing.
I really like the simple rhymes in the text and the joy in the illustrations as the children have fun in the sunshine. This book is full of golden sunshine and delight in the simple things of life.
I passed this book up the first time I saw it but glad I picked it up the second time around. It brought back great memories of trips to Florida. Walking on the beach smelling that sandy air. Making sand castles and collecting seashells. The artwork was sweet and simple. Reminded me of books my grandmother would read to me. Great book to add to any golden book collection.
I think a day at the shore hasn't changed much, if one wants to enjoy its simple pleasures. What fun I had with Nancy & Tim, and I could feel the hot sand and taste those cookies for lunch. The only footnote: Apply sunscreen liberally and often. Otherwise, have fun, kids and kids at heart!
A sweet old timey book (Golden Book) about a family visiting the seashore, complete with numbered changing rooms and a roped off swimming area and a big picnic lunch. Alice likes the puppy.
