I want to tell Ms. Hillerman thank you. Truly enjoyed her book. Her writing is her own, enough difference to know she wrote this book but close enough so I won't miss her Father so much. ?

My husband and I have missed Hillerman novels so much so when I saw this we were so excited. I have read through the reviews below and was disappointed that not all were positive- of course there are always nay sayers and people who will complain or be negative about anything- to us, this book was fun and knowledgeable, as all Hillerman's books were and even took the humor to a slightly higher level. We enjoyed this book very much and are looking forward to starting the next one- the only negative to us- and I hesitate to mention it because it had nothing to do with the writing- the narration was pretty close to awful. The narrator seemed to try to make Navajo's sound stupid and backward.(less)

Did anyone else get confused over the number of named characters? Some, like her favorite college professor, were mentioned with both names and then never heard of again. I finally started making a list one quarter into the book. I listed 46 characters mentioned by name! While Anne may be wanting to reconnect with Dad's characters, I wish she had done so over more than one book.

Anne leaves quite a few things dangling - probably unintentionally. In this case, the book NEVER mentions them changing pants, shoes, or socks... or shampooing gasoline out of their hair! but DOES mention only changing shirts. So - presumably - they still smelled like gasoline when they arrived at the hospital to visit Lt. Leaphorn. Also, when Bernie changes cars (which she does frequently), I never know whether the A/C is working or not! (less)
