“Poor dear," Wendell said, bending to rub Shadow's ears. "When I retake my throne, I shall dedicate a fleet of servants to his needs. They shall make for him a velvet bed in every room, with a fire burning beside each one, and the bones of my enemies will be preserved for his enjoyment."
"That started off well, but I did not care for the ending," I said.”

“No matter how satisfying the shade is, one must step out of it. Because if you keep staying in the shade like this, even your own shadow will abandon you.”

“छहारी जति नै शीतल भए पनि त्यहाँबाट बाहिर निस्कनै पर्छ । किनभने यसरी छहारीमै बसिरहे आफ्नो छायाले पनि साथ छोडिदिन्छ ।”

“He would never abandon me as Orga is so often abandoning Wendell. Dogs are proper companions, not the physical manifestation of caprice.”

“The Shadow is not evil. It is everything You were told to hide in order to belong, anger, desire, grief, neediness, brilliance, queerness, eroticism, boundaries, pleasure, pride.
In short: the parts of You that threatened the story someone else needed You to play.”

“i took my shadow and left
wanting it to be night in me
yet you refused my undoing
asking for light
always more light!
to love is to be changed
with you i grew into my self
when i say you’re my other me
it is an injustice
for you were always my potential”

“Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more; it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing”

“The light tells you, "You owe your shadow to me!" You tell it, "If I didn't exist, I wouldn't have a shadow!" Don't let anyone belittle your value.”

“I embrace the darkness and confide with the shadows. I build walls around me to absorbed the silence. I do not need anyone or rely on anything.”

“Oh, how I tried—to forget you, to distance myself from the memories we shared. But I failed miserably. You remained with me, a shadow in every thought, a presence in every place I visited. Whatever I did, you were there, like a melody that plays in the background of my life, soft yet impossible to ignore.”

“What's shadow-sick?' she asked.
'You might call it 'heartsick' or 'soul-sick',' answered Anita. 'It happens when humans turn from face-to-face trust and let the darkness of death enter them. Thanks to Adam, we all have inherited shadow-sickness in our mortality. Resisting it is the war in which we are all engaged.'
'Is your colleague being guarded, then?' John asked.
'No, she is being companioned inside a community to the north,' Anita said. 'It is a guarding of sorts--but *for*, not *against*. The purpose is to help her turn once again toward life.' She addressed Lilly. 'We learned long ago that shadow-sickness feeds on isolation. So we take our stand against it by protecting relationships of intentional love and kindness.”

“Some people are truly unfortunate; they spend their whole lives chasing love, only to find it always one step ahead—faster, and at times, so elusive, like a shadow in the fading light. Just when they think they've caught it, it slips through their fingers, leaving only the ache of longing behind.”

“Wouldn't you like to be in your own shadow's place? He doesn't suffer from any of the troubles you do! Maybe he, not you, is living the best life, he is living existence without existing!”

“Look at the shadows, they look like real people; and look at the people, they look like real shadows!”

“Now, Shadow has never been fond of clothing, but he seemed to sense the importance of this particular imposition on his dignity, and held still while Wendell measured and draped him in iterations of what became a fine coat. It was a soft, velvety black, embroidered with a kingly amount of silver, which Wendell somehow made from a handful of the silver buttons I had found. He had decided to make Shadow intimidating--- to which I did not object, knowing this would lessen the dog's embarrassment--- and so he had taken tendrils of fog and attached them to the cloak like billowing ribbons, so that Shadow seemed to carry a mist with him everywhere like the spectral beast that he is. Together with the glitter of the silver, the effect was--- well, mythic.”

“Shadow awoke with a snort and promptly leapt all over Wendell, and he paused to pet and coddle the dog into submission before helping Lilja set the table.
Supper was a noisy affair, for Margret likes to talk almost as much as Wendell when in familiar company, and Shadow was delighted by the presence of so many of those he loved, and snuffled up to each of us by turns, whining excitedly.”

“Shadow turned to me. He had shed his glamour and had grown to at least twice his normal size, his snout distended and his ribs poking through his fur. His eyes flickered like embers--- quite unnerving, but also helpful, in that context. He threw back his head and let loose a deathly howl.”

“What did these brownies tell you? I'd no idea such Folk could help a Black Hound."
He took my hand. "Shadow is ill, Em. Some congestion in his blood--- that is how the creatures described it. An illness of age, which they might have prevented before it set in, but which they could not cure."
I sank back against my chair--- I had not realized I was leaning forward, my body rigid with tension.
"However," Wendell continued, "I did not lose hope at this, for the information was useful. I'd heard rumors that this half-bogle woman, who aptly calls herself the Wordmonger, had amassed a great collection of forgotten Words. Including one intended to cleanse the blood--- used mostly, I suspect, to rid the body of alcohol, and thus its aftereffects. Perhaps one of the most useful Words ever invented! And I thought to myself, why should it not be useful in this case? The Words have more than one function, and it stands to reason that their effects should be stronger in beasts. If ever I regained my kingdom, I told myself, I would venture to the rhododendron meadow to interview her as soon as could be."
"A hangover remedy!" Niamh exclaimed. "You thought to cure the dog with that?"
"I already have," Wendell said. "Come here, Em."
I knelt beside him and placed my hands where he indicated. I felt Shadow's heartbeat--- with which I was acutely familiar, for the old dog liked to sleep pressed against my back at night. I didn't notice the change at first. But then---
"It's stronger," I cried. "Wait--- is it?" I listened again. "Yes--- I'm almost certain that it is!”

“When you don’t trust life and so you start testing it and looking for signs, then you’re not really testing life (because the truth can’t be tested – it just is) – you’re just testing your own ability to be selective with your attention and to tell your unconscious mind to keep a look out for things that could potentially mean something (based on your own criteria of what’s ‘meaningful’ which is almost based on your relationship between your ego and your shadow).”

“The heroic quest typically highlights a seemingly average person (think Thomas Anderson before he becomes Neo) who embarks on a perilous undertaking, confronts challenges and temptations, and ultimately returns to his or her starting place, transformed and usually upgraded.
This myth appears central to human experience. The Tarot, for example, which reads as a distillation of ancient mythology, is in essence about the heroic quest to become one’s true self. Even the parable of the Prodigal Son can be interpreted as a retelling of the Hero’s Journey.
This journey isn’t merely external; it’s primarily internal. The Hero’s Journey, applied to our Matrix analogy, suggests that the only way out of the so-called simulation is into oneself.
The hero’s ultimate inner battle is against the enemy within, the shadow self, our own Agent Smith, the unrecognized and unintegrated aspects of the psyche that only battle and hinder us until we make peace with them.”

“I don’t fear the dark... I work inside it, so something brighter can be left behind. The artist’s journey isn’t to avoid the shadows, but to enter them fully and create light from the inside out.”

“kesedihanku terlalu berat untuk dibayar dengan memori dan penyesalan.
rindu menjadi tak bertuan
kehilangan tempat di hati
sedangkan waktu seolah tak memperdulikan teriakanku
manakala aku ingin kembali ke masa lalu untuk sekedar berandai-andai memperbaiki cara kita menjaga kebersamaan
kekosongan ini terlalu luas untuk kuhuni sendirian
menghamburkan keengganan tanpa batas
bahwa kamu adalah kekuatan yang lepas dari rangkaian tulang dan ragaku
langkah panjang ini terasa tak beranjak
terserap magnet bumi
sehingga kamu tetap tak terlihat
tak terdengar
tak tersentuh
bahkan bayanganmu
tejo menata kegelisahannya, ambil nafas dan berdiri tegak...
